1.(1) New England Patriots (15-0)(AFC1). Last: WON 28-7 against Miami Dolphins. Is everyone as sick of hearing about the Patriots as me? Boring...
2.(2) Indianapolis Colts (13-2)(AFC2). Last: WON 38-15 against Houston Texans. The Colts played their starters for a few quarters then let them have the rest of the day off. I think it's the right thing to do this time around. I'm sure you'll see the same thing again this week. If the Colts get up early, the Titans don't have the ability to come from behind, and the starters will be able to rest again. I'd be interested to see what happens if Tennessee gets the lead. How long do the starters play them? Isn't it always better to go into the playoffs coming off a win rather than a loss?
3.(3) Dallas Cowboys (13-2)(NFC1). Last: WON 20-13 at Carolina Panthers. The Cowboys have everything locked up and I'm sure they will take the same approach as other teams in similar situations this week. Play the starters early, rest them later. This is a divisional rivalry game though and if the Redskins win, they're in. Again, how will this play out if the Redskins get the lead at some point? Do the Cowboys play to win and try to knock their rival out of the Playoffs?
4.(4) Green Bay Packers (12-3)(NFC2). Last: LOST 7-35 at Chicago Bears. The way the Packers well, packed it in this past week causes me some concern. I know it's cold, but you play in Green Bay, hello? It's going to be just as cold for their home playoff games anyway. I wonder if they were just content to grab the #2 playoff spot and go from there. They get the Lions at home this week and I'm sure the weather won't be all that great. Do they come out and play this week? I think they should at least a little, they get a week off coming up and sometimes that's not such a great thing.
5.(5) Jacksonville Jaguars (11-4)(AFC5). Last: WON 49-11 against Oakland Raiders. Jacksonville has the #5 playoff spot locked up and can't go up or down this week based on the outcome of their game. It's another divisional game at Houston and there could be the issue of pride and beating a division opponent to play for, but I think they'll rest the starters and get ready for the playoffs. They'll either have to play at Pittsburgh, as it stands now, or at San Diego. Pick your poison.
6.(6) San Diego Chargers (10-5)(AFC3). Last: WON 23-3 against Denver Broncos. The Chargers have been resting their big three for the past two games now, pulling them at least in the third quarter. I think they'll want to win this week for two reasons. It's always nice to beat up on the Raiders. By winning, they control the #3 seed in the AFC and prolong a visit to Foxboro until the Championship game. I'd say that's reason enough to want to win this week.
7.(7) Pittsburgh Steelers (10-5)(AFC4). Last: WON 41-24 at St. Louis Rams. The Steelers have an opportunity to move up the #3 seed in the AFC with a win and a Chargers loss. It's going to be a tough call on this one considering they both play late games and the outcomes couldn't be known in advance. I think the Steelers will want to beat the Ravens, but I think they'll rest some key people nursing injuries. I personally like the scenario of Pittsburgh getting the Jags at home in the first round because that's a winnable game then going to Foxboro and exercising some revenge on the Pats. If nothing else, it would make the Patriots have to get through the Steelers then the Colts to make it to the Superbowl.
8.(8) Seattle Seahawks (10-5)(NFC3). Last: WON 27-6 against Baltimore Ravens. The Seahawks are set in the NFC playoff picture and will play the #6 seed next week whoever that may be. I think the starters play maybe the first half in this one. Look, they're playing the Falcons this week and I think Seattle could win if they didn't start any of their normal people. Still, I think Alexander needs to be in the game and get about 15 touches due to the amount of time he's missed previously.
9.(9) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-6)(NFC4). Last: LOST 19-21 at San Francisco 49ers. The Buccs are locked in at #4 and they’ll get the Giants next week in Tampa. They've already started to prepare for the Giants according to John Gruden. Look for more of the same from the starters this week, minimal playing time, lots of rest, and absolutely no care for the outcome of the game this week against Carolina.
10.(11) New York Giants (10-5)(NFC5). Last: WON 38-21 at Buffalo Bills. I believe the Giants want to beat the Patriots. I think they are like everyone else. They're sick and tired of hearing about the Cheatriots and their "Pursuit of Perfection." Man, the people at ESPN are bored. This is the game that has the most intrigue built into it. You know the Patriots aren't resting any of their players. There are too many records on the line to be broken by this group of egotistical pricks. Is it wrong for me to say I'd love to see Brady get "Wilforked" this week? You know, Wilforked, when an opposing defensive lineman falls through the line with his elbow extended perfectly to make contact with the quarterback's vulnerable knee. Everyone lay off, this is my coined word.
11.(13) Tennessee Titans (9-6)(AFC6). Last: WON 10-6 against New York Jets. It has to be a great feeling when someone tells you all you have to do is win to get in. That's what's facing the Titans this week when they travel to Indy. They've got a good run team, but a lot of players are ####ed up. The problem is, they can't rest anyone in this game and they have no ability what so ever to come from behind. That's not a good thing considering Manning can lay 250yrds and 3 TD's in one half on you if he wants. Still, The Titans are in the best position of all this week in the AFC. Let's see what they can do. Sunday Night prime-time is a perfect setting for this game.
12.(16) Washington Redskins (8-7)(NFC6). Last: WON 32-21 at Minnesota Vikings. The Redskins are in the driver’s seat this week in the NFC. If they can beat the Cowboys this week, they get the final NFC playoff spot and would then play at Seattle in the first round of the playoffs. Obviously, the Redskins will be pulling out all the stops to win this game and get in. They could have an advantage if the Cowboys decide to rest key players in this game. You can't ask for a better situation right now.
13.(10) Minnesota Vikings (8-7). Last: LOST 21-32 against Washington Redskins. Wow, all the Vikings had to do lat week was win and they were in. Now they have to win AND have the Redskins lose to get into the playoffs. The defense looked terrible last week, getting ripped on the ground and through the air. The Broncos stand in the way this week and that's a great thing for Minnesota. Denver packed it in about two weeks ago and is just terrible. They've nothing left to play for, including pride. That bottom five defense will get torched by Peterson and Taylor all day. This will probably be a blow out, but that still doesn't wrap things up for this team. The Redskins play at the same time, so there's no watching to see what happens.
14.(12) Cleveland Browns (9-6). Last: LOST 14-19 at Cincinnati Bengals. The Browns choked away a chance at the playoffs last week and now has no control over what happens to them. They need to win this week and San Francisco should provide the perfect recipe to do so. The Titans can sit back and watch this game knowing that if the Browns lose, they don't need to do anything to get in. I don't see that happening. The offense will get back on track and there's nothing better for a reeling defense than getting top play arguably the worst offense in the NFL.
15.(NR) Philadelphia Eagles (7-8). Last: WON 38-23 at New Orleans Saints. I'm giving props to the Eagles this week for going on the road and taking out a team that had a great chance to make the playoffs. This team has been so inconsistent this year, going up and down, up and down... They have a chance to finish at .500 this year and I think they, maybe more than any other team this year, want to play for the pride of their team this final week. It would be nice to finish things off at home against a bad Bills team, and make the most of a disappointing season.
16.(14) New Orleans Saints (7-8). Last: LOST 23-38 against Philadelphia Eagles. The Saints had a great chance to sneak into the playoffs this year, but that's all but finished. They need the most help of any team remaining alive to get in. They need to beat the Bears in Chicago this week, then have both the Redskins and the Vikings lose to get into the playoffs. Now, not saying that can't happen, but it's going to be near impossible. The Saints struggled last year in the NFC Championship game in Chicago and both Reggie Bush and Aaron Stecker are ####ed up. Someone tell me why, when you're goal to go, you decide to run the ball? You've got here by passing all season, why wouldn't you go with a pass on such a crucial sequence of plays. That lost them the game. I hope either the Saints or Vikings get into the playoffs. I don't like it when three teams from the same division get in. That leads me to believe that the schedule played to big a role in determining the playoffs.
I just had to make a comment on the Thursday Night game featuring the Steelers and Rams. The game was on NFL Network, so not everyone got to see it, which is good and bad.
THE GOOD
After some suspect play early on, the Steeler defense started to play like the unit we have been accustomed to seeing; stopping the run, applying pressure, and forcing mistakes. The pick-six to seal the game was fitting given how poorly the defense had played recently.
My only issue with this game came at the end of the first half, when the Rams got two free challenges because there was less than 2 minutes left. I've always had a problem with this rule and it reared its ugly head here. At this point in the game, the score was close and every play was crucial in determining the outcome of the game. Twice the Refs on the field called plays against the Rams. First was a fumble that got overturned because the player did not have possession, the second was a non-catch along the sidelines that got turned into a catch. Now, I'm all for the Officials getting things right, but the fact that they got free challenges is the issue. Why can't a coach use a challenge instead just like in other game situations? If it's so important, don't waste time-outs during the game. I think this rule may need to be looked at in the off-season meetings.
THE BAD
I think Marshall Faulk is a great player, I mean, WAS a great player. That means he doesn't play anymore. But if you watched the Thursday Night game, you'd think he WAS playing. That's all Gumble talked about!!! How great Marshall Faulk was/is...
Here's the problem... NFL Network employs Marshall Faulk as an analyst, great. He played for the Rams, great. He was involved in a half-time ceremony to retire his jersey, great. He was calling the game that was being played in St. Louis, NOT GREAT. Is it just me or was that a HUGE conflict of interest for the NFL Network. First of all, how am I, the viewer, able to listen to an unbiased call o####ame when one of the commentators used to play for one of the teams involved in the game?!? I want to hear about the Steelers and how dominant and awesome they looked. I want to hear about how bad the Rams are at everything. I most definitely DON'T want to hear about and watch clips of Marshall Faulk all night!!!
I was also very, very disappointed and upset with one of the conversations that took place during the game. On the first Pittsburgh series, Willie Parker went out of the game with a leg injury. At the time, not much was known about it, fine. A little later on, they announce that Parker has a cracked Tibia in his leg and is likely out for the season. Here's what the conservation was about over the next few minutes.
1. The Steelers are done. If they make the playoffs, they'll lose in the first round. There's no way they can throw now because defenses won't fear the run anymore. Man, good thing Davenport is so bad, what rushing for like 140yds and 2 TD's. Whatever.
2. Hear's what angered me most and has caused me to send a nasty letter to NFL Network. When they found out Parker was out for the year, that no good, know nothing about football, wannabe announcer ####, Bryant Gumble had the nerve, the balls to say,” I guess Fred Taylor will finally get to go to the Pro-Bowl..." and was as happy as a pig in #### when he said it. Hey ####, do you realize that one of the NFL's more marketable players and its leading rusher was just lost for the year!!! Bryant Gumble should go find Tony Cornheiser, they should hold hands and slide under a bus. What an outrage!!!
I guess that is the only way Fred Taylor can make it to a Pro-Bowl.
And why does everyone in broadcasting hate the Steelers? It's because they're mostly old players, and those old players where never as good as the Steelers, or always got the #### kicked out of them when they played. Jealousy is an ugly, ugly sin.
1.(1) New England Patriots (14-0)(AFC1). Last: WON 20-10 against New York Jets. It's not a good sign when this offensive machine gets a mere one offensive touchdown. Granted the weather was bad, but it's December. Do you think it's going to get any better? I know the teams they play in January will.
2.(2) Indianapolis Colts (12-2)(AFC2). Last: WON 21-14 at Oakland Raiders. The Colts puzzled me on Sunday by playing right into the strength of the Raider defense. Was Manning trying to prove a point? I think Addai had like 8yrds on 5 carries at half-time. Manning wised up in the second half and ran the ball more, resulting in a win. The Raiders racked up big yards on the ground and that's never a good sign when you want to advance deep into January.
3.(3) Dallas Cowboys (12-2)(NFC1). Last: LOST 6-10 against Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys are like the Patriots in that if their QB goes down or gets injured, the team is not that good. Dallas better hope that Romo can play at a high level this week at Carolina, because they do not want to have to go to Lambeau in January. Carolina shut down a fully functioning Seattle offense last week, and a Romo at 50% will not cut it. Dallas needs to do a better job of running the ball this week to take the pressure off the injured QB.
4.(4) Green Bay Packers (12-2)(NFC2). Last: WON 33-14 at St. Louis Rams. The Green machine keeps rolling and Brett Favre keeps breaking NFL passing records. His latest wiping away of Dan Marino came in the category of Career Passing Yards, that's a big one. They play at Soldier Field this week, and even though the Bears have nothing left to play for, they will show up for this one knowing they can derail the Packers chances at clinching Home Field Advantage for the playoffs. I still think the Packers pull through in this one, but this could be one of those classic NFC North battles.
5.(5) Jacksonville Jaguars (10-4)(AFC5). Last: WON 29-22 at Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jaguars managed to walk away from Pittsburgh with a win, the only team to do so this season. The run game looked good against the number one rush defense and they get to play the Raiders this week who are not so good against the run. The game is in Jacksonville and the Raiders are without Justin Fargas. This game screams blow-out. Man, the Raiders are pathetic.
6.(8) San Diego Chargers (9-5)(AFC3). Last: WON 51-14 against Detroit Lions. The Chargers are on cruise control right now thanks to the easy schedule that's bumped them into the #3 spot in the AFC playoff bracket. They're at home again this Monday Night against the wilting Broncos. The ground game will be in full force and L.T. may once again be on watching the game from the sidelines in the second half. There's nothing better than a Christmas Eve stomping. The Chargers will keep winning so they prolong having to face New England as long as possible. I'm still predicting a first round loss for them though.
7.(6) Pittsburgh Steelers (9-5)(AFC4). Last: LOST 22-29 against Jacksonville Jaguars. The Steelers need to get their act together really quick or they'll be playing in a wild card spot instead of as the Division Champs. They should be able to beat the Rams this week. The Steelers defense needs to improve in stopping the run and tackling better because Steven Jackson is not an easy back to bring down. Hopefully this game doesn't turn into a shoot-out. If the Steelers win, they're in. They need a two wins or a win and a Browns loss to clinch the Division. I still have faith, you should too!
8.(7) Seattle Seahawks (9-5)(NFC3). Last: LOST 10-13 at Carolina Panthers. I'm not sure what happened to Seattle this past Sunday, but Carolina is not that good. They've clinched the Division and I'm sure where you'd rather play? Dallas and Green Bay will both be difficult venues. Anyway, they should be able to handle the Ravens this week, especially since they're at home. They won't be able to run this week, so pass protection and pass execution will be the determining factor. Seattle should be able to slow down the Ravens offense with Kyle Boller at the helm. Watch in this one to see if Troy Smith gets in the game. His big arm and play-making ability could cause problems for the Seahawk defense.
9.(10) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-5)(NFC4). Last: WON 37-3 against Atlanta Falcons. The Buccs destroyed the Falcons, but so has everyone else. They get to play this week at San Francisco and I expect the Buccs defense to give the 49ers offense fits all day. Jeff Garcia rights the ship and Earnest Graham has been dominant in the run game. All of this equals bad things for the '9ers. I'll also mention that Tampa Bay returned a kickoff for a TD for the first time in team HISTORY! Way to go guys, congrats.
10.(11) Minnesota Vikings (8-6)(NFC6). Last: WON 20-13 against Chicago Bears. The turn-over bug was biting the Vikings hard this past Monday Night, but they showed they have the personnel to overcome such adversity. The Vikings get another primetime game this week as they host the Redskins. This game has huge playoff implications. If they Vikings lose, the Redskins would have the same record and own the head to head tie-breaker. If the Saints also win their game, the picture gets even cloudier for the Vikings. It's simple, win and you control you own destiny.
11.(9) New York Giants (9-5)(NFC5). Last: LOST 10-22 against Washington Redskins. The Giants have to be worried based on what happened this past Sunday Night. Eli Manning was terrible. Now, I know the wind was bad, but why didn't Collins have any major issues? I watched Eli Manning, on numerous occasions, throw a check down to the running backs and the pass was dropped. Look, I understand that the running back has to make the catch, but when you’re standing less than five yards away from the QB and he's launching 50mph footballs at you, unless it’s a perfect pass into your chest, you're probably not going to catch it. And that's what was happening. Oh yeah, Shockey's out for the year. I say they still handle Buffalo this week by RUNNING THE FOOTBALL!
12.(12) Cleveland Browns (9-5)(AFC6). Last: WON 8-0 against Buffalo Bills. Wow what crazy weather there was this past week. None was crazier though than in Cleveland. The Browns were able to run and that's really the only thing you can do in weather like that. They're just a tie-breaker away from pulling into the division lead over Pittsburgh. The Browns need to win out and hope that the Steelers lose at least one of their last two for that to happen. They play at Cincinnati this week and divisional games are always tough. I have a very close friend who's a huge Browns fan and he said they'll lose this week, so there you go.
13.(13) Tennessee Titans (8-6). Last: WON 26-17 at Kansas City Chiefs. The Titans are barely alive in the playoff hunt, so they need to keep winning to have a chance. Things are looking good for them as they're at home against the Jets. If they keep running the ball like they have, I don't see how they lose this one. The defense should be able to keep the Jets offense in check. Could the AFC South send three teams to the Playoffs? Sure.
14.(14) New Orleans Saints (7-7). Last: WON 31-24 against Arizona Cardinals. Funny, I've been toting the Saints around as one of my fave teams pretty much the whole year. Now the dorks over at ESPN are calling the Saints their sleeper playoff team for this year. What a bunch of losers. They need to win at home against the Eagles this week and another win next week to keep their hopes alive. The Eagles were eliminated last week, so I don't know if they've got anything left to play for. Drew Brees is doing everything he can to get this team back to the playoffs, unfortunately, they aren't in control of their situation. They need a Redskins win this week, then a Redskins loss next week to make it happen.
15.(15) Houston Texans (7-7). Last: WON 31-13 against Denver Broncos. I was criticized last week for including the Texans and Saints over the Bills in the Power 16. The Texans have the daunting task of trying to take out Indy in Indy. Tony Dungy said this week that there will be no rest for the starters this year and that spells bad news for the Texans. The Colts have too many weapons, but can be slowed down with a strong pass rush. Super Mario and the rest of the Texans d-line can bring the heat, but you have to get there. Matt Schaub probably returns this week. He'll look for Andre Johnson early and often in this one, while sprinkling in some run game to keep the aggressive defense on its heels. Good luck.
16.(NR) Washington Redskins (7-7). Last: WON 22-10 at New York Giants. The Redskins round out the Power 16 this week with their strong effort in the elements at New York this past week. I don't think Jason Campbell is quite ready for this one, so someone else will have to step up for the 'skins. They have to play at Minnesota in another Sunday Night game. The Redskins need Cooley to get involved, then bust the defense with draw plays. Stopping Adrian Peterson is the number one task for the defense. Accomplish this and you can win.
Week 15 played out as easily the oddest week in the NFL season to date. The weather for some of the games was just absolutely ridiculous! Most of all was the Bill and Browns in Cleveland. Wow, that was pretty awesome to watch, unless you like people facing on their faces, slipping and sliding every time they try to make a cut, and a total of eight whole points scored. Still, watching some of the players perform in those conditions was marveling. Braylon Edwards come to mind in this game. He made some unbelievable catches and deserved to go to the Pro-Bowl. Onto the week in review...
HIGHS
Congratulations to the Miami Dolphins for winning their first game of the season. Boy, what does that say about the Ravens? Keep reading below and I'll tell you. The Dolphins made the plays, the Ravens got way too conservative later in the game and the Dolphins won. Do you think it had anything to do with all the great '72 Dolphins that were on hand for the game? I thought it would have been a way cooler story line had the Dolphins been winless going into their game with the unbeaten Pats, and then find a way to pull the biggest upset in NFL history. Now that's a story.
I loved watching the Houston Texans pound the Denver Broncos last Thursday Night. I don't know if matters to me who is kicking the #### out of the Broncos, as long as they're doing it. The Broncos have been eliminated from the playoffs for a second straight season and I popped the champagne bottles to celebrate!
Congratulations to Ben Roethlisberger, Willie Parker, Alan Faneca, James Harrison, and Troy Polamalu for making the AFC Pro Bowl Team.
LOWS
The Steelers found another way to lose this past weekend. It came down to not being able to stop the run late in the game and the inability of the defense to tackle. I'm sorry, but Fred Taylor is not THAT good! I said it last week; Aaron Smith being out for the year would hurt this defense more than anything else. At least the weather can't be a factor this week as they go play the Lambs in a dome. The Steelers still control their own destiny at this point which is all you can ask for with only two games to play. They should win this week, but I'm starting to get a bit worried. One last thing about the game against the Jags. The second TD pass bothered me. The Jags motioned into trips bunch left then snapped the ball. I saw what was coming as soon as I saw the formation; it bothers me that our defense didn't see it at all. So here it is, the classic illegal pick play. The middle receiver runs an 8yrd hook, the inside receiver runs an out-slant and the outside receiver runs an in-slant, picking off the defender of the inside receiver as he goes by. The inside receiver is now on the outside, wide open in the flat for the TD!!! Was there a flag? I don't even need to say it.
The Baltimore Ravens are a sad, sad team. They've got nothing to play for going into this past weekend, yet they played so tight to the vest. Brian Billick is supposed to be the offensive guru, ha, yeah right! He's going to start Kyle Boller this week. Are you kidding me! Why would you go with this guy now when you've already said he's not good enough to be your starter. I'm sorry to say this, but Troy Smith for President. Get this guy in the game! So what if he's short, he's got a cannon for an arm and can make plays with his feet if need be. What's the problem? You drafted this guy right? What do you have to lose, except two more games I guess.
1.(1) New England Patriots (13-0)(AFC1). Last: WON 34-13 against Pittsburgh Steelers.#### hum, the Patriots won again.
2.(3) Indianapolis Colts (11-2)(AFC2). Last: WON 44-20 at Baltimore Ravens. The Colts looked impressive this past Sunday Night destroying the Ravens. The offense is back to that Colts offense that we've come to fear and the defense ranks in the top five in all major categories in yards and points against. Marvin Harrison probably won't play again this week, but I don't think it will matter. He just needs to get in game shape for the playoffs and the Colts meeting with the Patriots again. A trip to Oakland this week keeps the offensive machine rolling.
3.(2) Dallas Cowboys (12-1)(NFC1). Last: WON 28-27 against Detroit Lions. The Lions gave the game away on many occasions and the Cowboys were very, very lucky to come out with a victory. Some teams just have other teams’ numbers and the Lions seem to have the Cowboys. I don't think the Cowboys have to worry about playing the Lions again, so they'll be fine. They get Philly at home this week and should roll, but you never know how these divisional games will go. A win here clinches a first round bye.
4.(4) Green Bay Packers (11-2)(NFC2). Last: WON 38-7 against Oakland Raiders. The Packers handled their business like they should have at home against one of the worst teams in the league. They've already clinched the division and are likely to grab the other first round bye in the NFC. They play at the hapless Rams this week, so look for Favre and company to continue the offensive output. The run game has been superb lately, and that's what it will take to beat the Cowboys come playoff time.
5.(6) Jacksonville Jaguars (9-4)(AFC5). Last: WON 37-6 against Carolina Panthers. I'm giving Jacksonville the edge this week in the rankings because they won last week, although they played an absolutely pathetic team. They won like they should have though, so good for them. They travel to Pittsburgh this week and it's going to be tough. These teams always play very conservative offense and physical defense with the team that is more physical usually grabbing the win. The Jaguars look like they're headed toward the playoffs and a win here would really look nice on their resume.
6.(5) Pittsburgh Steelers (9-4)(AFC3). Last: LOST 13-34 at New England Patriots. The Steelers had chances to beat the Patriots but failed to execute and gave up too many big plays, and lost. They return to the friendly confines of Heinz Field where they've yet to lose this year. This, their final home game of the year, stands to also be the toughest test of the remaining games. The Steelers need to win this game, no matter what. A win here would leave them one more win or Brown's loss away from another AFC North title. I think they rebound this week and show everybody that they deserve to be considered a top team in the league.
7.(7) Seattle Seahawks (9-4)(NFC3). Last: WON 42-21 against Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks look like a team in top offensive form right now, handling opponents with ease on their way to another NFC WEST title. A win this week is likely again as they travel to Carolina to face the woeful Panthers. Hasselbeck has been playing as well as any QB in the NFL right now and I don't see that changing much going forward.
8.(9) San Diego Chargers (8-5)(AFC4). Last: WON 23-17 at Tennessee Titans. The Chargers got an over-time win this past week against the Titans, the last real challenge for them on the schedule. They have a chance to grab the #3 playoff spot in the AFC, which is ideal this year because they wouldn't have to play the Patriots until the Championship game if they made it that far. I still think this team is over rated and won't win a playoff game this year. Too many questions at the QB position and on defense. Playoff teams will be able to shut L.T. down, forcing Rivers or Voleck to throw and that's not good for this team's chances.
9.(10) New York Giants (9-4)(NFC5). Last: WON 16-13 at Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants pulled out a squeaker in Philly this past week as David Akers 4qt kick was rejected by the uprights. They have another tough divisional game this week against the Redskins and luckily it's at home. The Giants will be fine as long as they don't turn the ball over. The defense should be able to get at Collins, sacking him and forcing turnovers on their way to another low scoring affair. A win this week almost guarantees them a playoff spot as a wild card team.
10.(8) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-5)(NFC4). Last: LOST 14-28 at Houston Texans. Just when I thought the Buccs were an unstoppable force, they get nailed by the Texans. What a difference one week makes in the NFL. They need Jeff Garcia back and in control of that offense to continue their winning ways. Garcia should return this week and look who's coming to town, no not Santa Clause, the Falcons. A win here locks up the division and at least one home playoff game. Yeah, they lost, so did 15 other teams this past week. They'll be fine.
11.(12) Minnesota Vikings (7-6)(NFC6). Last: WON 27-7 at San Francisco 49ers. The Vikings might be playing the best football of any team in the NFL right now, and it couldn't have come at a better time. The downfall of this team has been the QB play, but Jackson has looked great managing the game, controlling the ball and letting the run game and defense handle things. We get to see this team in prime time Monday Night this week and I don't think they'll disappoint at home against Kyle Orton and the Bears. This one may be over at halftime not unlike a lot of Monday Night games this year. I think the NFC playoff picture is pretty much set at this point unless the Viking go on a total collapse and I just don't see it happening.
12.(11) Cleveland Browns (8-5)(AFC6). Last: WON 24-18 at New York Jets. The Browns beat the Jets and... What? They've got a shot at the division me thinks, but it's a small one at that. Still, they get Buffalo this week and the Steelers have a much tougher game on their plate. I think the Browns will be happy with a playoff spot this year and challenge for the division next year. I don't think the defense is ready to make a playoff run quite yet, but you never know, stranger things have happened.
13.(13) Tennessee Titans (7-6). Last: LOST 17-23 against San Diego Chargers. The Playoffs may be slipping away for this team as they cannot afford another loss this week. Arrowhead Stadium is always a tough place to play but I think the Titans can win if they can do this week what they did last week, and that's run the ball. LenDale White was back and rolling and will benefit again from Albert Haynesworth being a little healthier this week. The Chiefs don't have as good of an offense as the Chargers and look what the Broncos were able to do to them last week. I think Tennessee keeps their hopes alive this week.
14.(16) New Orleans Saints (6-7). Last: WON 34-14 against Atlanta Falcons. The Saints looked impressive this past Monday Night, but they were on the road and playing the Falcons. While the playoffs are all but out of reach, there is a small chance they can get in, but they need to win out to do so. Bad news, they're at home this week and they're hosting the Cardinals. Whoever losses this game is out of the playoff race. I think the Saints can win, but it depends on how they can stop the pass and which Cardinal WR's play this week.
15.(NR) Houston Texans (6-7). Last: WON 28-14 against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Texans are back in the Power 16 after a solid win over a divisional leading team. I guess it doesn't really matter who throws the ball to Andre Johnson, he'll destroy secondaries regardless. The Playoffs are one loss away from being out of reach for this team and they get a chance to knock out the Broncos this Thursday Night on NFL Network. I think they can win if they play the same way they did last week and it doesn't hurt that they're at home again. Here's the Broncos offense incase anyone on the Texans staff was wondering... RUN Off-Tackle right, RUN Off-Tackle left, PLAY-ACTION Bootleg right of left. That's it. Play disciplined defense with strong back side contain and you can stuff this offense.
16.(14) Arizona Cardinals (6-7). Last: LOST 21-42 at Seattle Seahawks. The Cardinals get one more chance at keeping their season alive with a win this week. They have to go on the road to New Orleans. The Cardinals have not had good success away from home this year, but the Saints may be worse at home. Which of these teams doesn't turn the ball over will win this one. If the big time WR's don't play, I don't think the Cardinals have enough offense to win.
Okay, Week 14 is complete, leaving us only three more weeks until the playoffs begin. At this point in the season, some teams have packed it in, while others are in dog-fights to grab the few precious remaining playoff spots that are left. I have to say this may have been the best weekend for officials in a while. While watching this past week's games, there wasn't a whole bunch that jumped out at me to cause major alarm and send fans into a raving crazy. Still, the NFL should make it a point to employ their Officials in a full time status. I'm pretty sure the NFL is the only major sport profession that does not have full time Refs. By making this happen, you ensure that the NFL officials are focusing on nothing but the NFL and its rules. I'd have to think that it's tough for an Official to spend all off season working in an insurance company let's say, then be expected to come into a season and be in top form throughout the year. With any job, you need to have constant repetition to learn and correct mistakes within your profession. By exposing these guys to football all year round, you keep them fresh and alert to everything that's happening around them. That said, on to this week's review...
HIGHS
The Minnesota Vikings look pretty unstoppable right now. Okay, so they did play the 49ers this past week and they're probably the worst team in the NFL, but the Vikings dominated every aspect of the game and even knocked out the opposing QB. Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson make quite the RB tandem. If teams works on shutting one guy down, the other guy just runs wild. Add in the fact that the defense is one of the most dominant in the league, and the young QB is becoming more comfortable in the offense, and you got a recipe for success. Barring a total collapse this team is headed to the playoffs.
LOWS
The Steelers didn't look as good as I thought they would against the Patriots. The game was tight in the 1st Half, but things got away from them in the 2nd half. It all started on the Steelers 1st drive when Roethlisberger got a little impatient on a second down play and threw to the flat for minimal yards. Had he waited another two seconds, he would have found a WR wide open in the back of the end zone. We got a field goal out of that drive. Fast-forward to the 2nd half. The Steelers get the ball and do nothing, not good. The Patriots then counter with perhaps the ugliest trick play in the history of the NFL. Brady one-hops a backward pass to Moss who then throws a pass that a six year old girl would be ashamed of, back to Brady. The ball is barely caught over the defenders hand, touchdown and eleven point lead. No big deal because there's so much time left. The Steelers get the ball, march right down the field and face a 3rd & goal from the Patriots 1/2 yrd line. First off, if Ben looks left he'd see that no one has decided to cover Holmes initially!!! Harrison eventually waddles out to cover him and the ball is snapped. Then there was a chance to throw penalty flags when 1. Harrison illegally contacts Holmes after the 5yrd zone, 2. Harrison has a hold of Holmes jersey while the ball is in the air; the definition of defensive holding, 3. Harrison does not play the ball, but instead illegally face-guards the receiver, not a single flag was thrown. In the Baltimore game last week there was far less going on when they through the flag on the Ravens for defensive holding on 4th & 5 in the end zone. The Steelers were stuffed on 4th down and the game was over. All I'm saying is that if we could have a little bit of consistency, it would make all the difference. This week, the refs let the players decide. Last week, they decided the game for the players.
The Atlanta Falcons are an organization in complete disarray. Ron Mexico get sentenced to 2yrs in prison for his dog issues, the team gets blasted on Monday night by the Saints, then the head coach promptly resigns only to accept the Arkansas Head Coach the next day. WOW, what a weekend for this organization. What's sad is that the Falcons are a good clean organization that has excellent people running the show. It's a shame that they have to endure this kind of disrespect their employees are showing them. I expect this team to be completely turned over in the off-season starting with DeAngelo Hall, Alge Crumpler, and Warrick Dunn. Not that there's anything wrong with Dunn, but it's time to let Norwood be the guy and get younger. They need to get a Defensive minded coach who will overhaul the defense first, then work on the offensive line. They also need a QB, because Harrington, Leftwhich, and Redman are not long term prospects. They will get a high draft pick this coming year and should be able to grab either Matt Ryan, Bryan Brohm, or they could even trade down, pick up some more draft picks and grab Andre Woodson.
1.(1) New England Patriots (12-0)(AFC1). Last: WON 27-24 at Baltimore Ravens. The Patriots won again and I don't think they should have. Read my "Week 13 in Review" article if you want to know why.
2.(2) Dallas Cowboys (11-1)(NFC1). Last: WON 37-27 against Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys proved they were the better team this past Thursday as they knocked off Green Bay. How good should they feel about the win? I'd say pretty to moderately good, here's why. They were at home and they knocked Brett Favre out of the game early. Now, that's not against Dallas or Aaron Rodgers, but we're talking about Brett Favre here. I think these teams meet again down the road and results may vary.
3.(3) Indianapolis Colts (10-2)(AFC2). Last: WON 28-25 against Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts took a firm grasp on the AFC South as they beat the Jags for the second time this season, but not by much. Take away Garrad's 1st INT and the TD right before half-time and the game goes the other way. The Colts need to keep the machine rolling and they need to get Harrison back into game shape before the ones that really matter quickly arrive. I'm shocked he didn't play this past week. The Colts look like a solid #2 seed right now.
4.(4) Green Bay Packers (10-2)(NFC2). Last: LOST 27-37 at Dallas Cowboys. The Packers caught a couple of bad breaks in their loss AT Dallas including an injury to Charles Woodson that held him out of the game. Brett Favre should be back this week, but I don't think Packer fan has much to fear should Favre go down again. Aaron Rodgers looked good coming off the bench in relief and led the team on some nice scoring drives while not forcing things and turning the ball over. The Defense needs to play better for this team to win. I think they right the ship this week at home against Oakland.
5.(6) Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3)(AFC3). Last: WON 24-10 against Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers recovered after a terrible 1st qt this past Sunday Night to easily handle the Bengals. The weather once again was an issue for this team which could become a problem in a few weeks. This team is known for thriving in bad conditions, but so far has sputtered. They get their crack at history as they travel to New England to end the Patriots flawless, but not spotless, record. The Steelers have had success against the Patriots before and it would be a huge help if they get Santonio Holmes and Marvel Smith back on offense this week. Do I believe, yes I do. Go Steelers!!!
6.(5) Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4)(AFC5). Last: LOST 25-28 at Indianapolis Colts. Jacksonville played very well on the road but came up just a few plays short of really making things interesting in the AFC South. They now find themselves 3 games back(includes tie-breaker) of Indy. Their schedule still makes them look like a playoff team as they get Carolina this week before having to travel to Pittsburgh in Week 15. They get Oakland at home and then play at Houston to finish up the season. They should be able to at least go 3-1 through that stretch and finish 11-5.
7.(8) Seattle Seahawks (8-4)(NFC3). Last: WON 28-24 at Philadelphia Eagles. The Seahawks got Shaun Alexander and the ground game going this week and while it may not have made much of a difference against the Eagles, it will when they get into January. The Defense looked great, handling Brian Westbrook as well as one could hope to. While the NFC is still weak, the Seahawks are at least starting to separate themselves from the pack. They get a huge divisional game at home this week against Arizona. A win here would even the season series against the Cardinals and all but clinch the NFC West.
8.(9) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-4)(NFC4). Last: WON 27-23 at New Orleans Saints. Tampa Bay got lucky this past week. New Orleans had that game won and gave it away. The Buccs are a lock for the NFC South title and have an outside chance of moving all the way up to the #2 seed. Why? How? At Houston, vs. Atlanta’s, at San Francisco, vs. Carolina, that's how. I think Jeff Garcia gets another week or two to heal given the play of McCown against the Saints. Joey Galloway just peeked at the rest of the schedule and licked his lips. Mmmm... Touchdowns.
9.(10) San Diego Chargers (7-5)(AFC4). Last: WON 24-10 at Kansas City Chiefs. Oh San Diego, your division sucks, you're mediocre at best, and you're due for a loss. Enter this week's game at Tennessee, the last formidable opponent on the schedule. Finishing 10-6 in the AFC West should win the division by 3 games this year, ouch. I guess every division can't be competitive. San Diego WILL BE out coached this week in a tight game that sees L.T. gets shut down, Rivers forced to pass, and the defense chasing Vince Young up and down the field.
10.(11) New York Giants (8-4)(NFC5). Last: WON 21-16 at Chicago Bears. The Giants played horrid for 45min, then played good for 15min and won. I don't know if it's a testament to the Giants ability to stay in the game and make plays when it counts or the Bears Defense being just plain awful. A win is a win though, and the Giants will take it. They are set nicely in the NFC wildcard race right now and should just need to win two of their final four to get in. They travel to Philly this week and the defense is foaming at the mouth to get another crack at McNabb. The run game will be tested again with Derrick Ward being knocked out for the season. Jacobs is back this week, but he needs to stay healthy from here on out for the Giants to contend in January.
11.(7) Cleveland Browns (7-5)(AFC6). Last: LOST 21-27 at Arizona Cardinals. The Browns were unfortunate that they had to play a team coached by two former Steeler offensive coaches this past week. They get some easier games coming up and I still have them in as one of my playoff teams. They travel to the Meadowlands this week to play a Jets team that has been good at times, but bad more often than not. I see a bounce back week for this offense on route to a big victory and a momentum builder as they near the end of the regular season.
12.(14) Minnesota Vikings (6-6). Last: WON 42-10 against Detroit Lions. For the second week in a row the Vikings have crushed their opponents. This team is firing on all cylinders AND they just got Adrian Peterson back from injury. The defense has learned how to defend the pass much better than it did at the beginning of the season. They've got a great chance at sneaking into the playoffs this year if they can keep rolling. They play at San Francisco this week and I don't see them having any major problems taking care of business here. This team loves to run the ball and the final four games are against teams that love to give up tons of yards on the ground.
13.(15) Tennessee Titans (7-5). Last: WON 28-20 against Houston Texans. The Titans got back in the win column this past week, essentially saving their chances at making the playoffs this year. They have some tough matches coming up in the last four games and have the daunting task of figuring out how to stop L.T. this week. The Titans are a better team at home and Albert Haynesworth should be close to 100% this week, and they'll need him. The ground game is crucial for opening things up down field for Vince Young.
14.(NR) Arizona Cardinals (6-6)(NFC6). Last: WON 27-21 against Cleveland Browns. Arizona debuts this week in my Power 16 after winning three out of their last four. I bet they'd love to have that game against San Francisco back, ouch. They have the second toughest schedule of the teams fighting for the final playoff spot right now and injuries to their two big time receivers can't help matters. They need to win this week at Seattle to keep things alive. 15.(12) Detroit Lions (6-6). Last: LOST 10-42 at Minnesota Vikings. The Lions have lost four in a row and things don't get any easier as the Cowboys coming calling this week. Detroit is fading fast and they're in the toughest part of their schedule right now. Not the time to have the offense in meltdown mode. Who knows, maybe this team was just a product of an easy opening schedule and they're not as good as we thought. They have the hardest schedule remaining for teams battling for the sixth spot in the NFC. At one time I thought this was a playoff team. Hey, everyone's wrong once.
16.(13) New Orleans Saints (5-7). Last: LOST 23-27 against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And sometimes they're wrong twice. Like in my love for the Saints. After crapping the game away last week to Tampa Bay, I don't know if they have anything left to make a playoff run. I had no idea they'd miss Deuce McAllister this much. If he comes back next year, here's how you win. Start the games with Reggie Bush, use Deuce on short yardage(even if it's a decoy) and late in the game to control the ball and the clock. The Saints need to be able to pound the ball with a big back at some point in a game. Their remaining schedule could lead them to the playoffs, but they need to go at least 3-1 to have any chance. It needs to start with a win over the Falcons this week.
Week 13 is in the books and there were some happenings that got me thinking. What is the NFL, really? It's a business. And what's the best thing for business? Interest and excitement. The only way a business can be successful is if it is selling and making money right? That's what a cell phone company wants, it's what Wal-Mart or Target wants, and it's the same for professional sports. In a business product life cycle, there are ups and downs. The goal is to try to keep things going in the ups direction. The best way to do that is to modify your product slightly so that a larger target audience will become interested, thus bringing their spending money to your product. There are many ways a business can accomplish this feat.
HIGHS
The NFL is expanding. They've played games outside the U.S. for a few years now and this year marked the first time a regular season game was played outside the country. The NFL looks to continue this global expansion to get some of the rest of world's money and attempt to generate a larger fan base.
The Pittsburgh Steelers won again Sunday Night as they easily handled the Bengals. One thing that concerns me was the Steeler's inability to run the ball late in the game and close the game out in boring fashion. Najeh Davenport was a late scratch from the line-up with a foot injury and the effects were rather apparent. Santonio Holmes' absence was another big factor for the Steelers. It's amazing that everyone knew that Hines Ward would be getting the ball, but they couldn't stop him anyway. What's even more amazing is that the "experts" at ESPN swear up and down that Ward is over the hill and no longer able to be productive. The Steelers get their crack at beating the undefeated Patriots and I think they've got a great chance at doing it. The Steelers run a very effective zone-blitz scheme that is the key to slowing down Tom Brady and the Pats. Here's the key Steelers coaching staff, stop Wes Welker!!! He runs three pass patterns underneath, in, out, and hook. Play your safeties over the top to stop Moss and Stallworth and drop a linebacker into the middle zone to protect the crossing patterns. The front 6 will be able to stop the run and apply enough pressure to disrupt the Pats offense. The final key to win is to hit the #### out of Tom Brady and the WR's. Randy Moss will give up if you hammer him enough.
LOWS
The NFL has a vested interest in seeing the Patriots go undefeated this year. It's a new generation and the new fans need to have something monumental like this occur in their time so they can stay interested in the game and bring the next generation into the game. It's a want based on need to continue the success of the game. The '72 Dolphins are boring to this generation. Nobody knows more than a handful of players from that team and their time appears to now be limited. The Baltimore Ravens should have won. Three things happened to permit the glorious Patriots team from being blemished. 1)The Refs illegally granted the Ravens a time-out on a fourth and 1 play late in the game. The rules state that only a player on the field of play or the head coach may call a time-out. It's the Refs responsibility to verify that the legal personnel are calling the time-out. 2)A terrible illegal-contact penalty was called on the Ravens on a fourth and 5 a few plays later. The replayed did not show the TE being impeded in any fashion during the throw. 3)The TD catch to win the game was incorrectly called and reviewed. The replay clearly showed that the ball was moving in the receiver’s hands before he was able to get both feet in bounds. This is just what happened on the final possession of the game. There were numerous penalties throughout the game that clearly favored the Patriots including one where Moss ran down field, tried to run through a defender that had position, went down, and a defensive holding penalty was called. WHAT!?! Oh yeah, it's not personal, it's just business.
The Buffalo Bills join my list of teams to hate for what happened Sunday. The Redskins announced in advance that they would take the field for the first play on defense with only 10 men. Showing immense respect and sorrow for the loss of Pro-Bowl safety Sean Taylor. So what do the Bills do, they run a play and roll of like a 20-yard gain. This to me is a slap in the face to Sean Taylor. You know what you pathetic, sorry excuse for a football team, take a knee!!! You now join my most hated list that consists of...
1. New England Patriots (11-0). Last: WON 31-28 against Philadelphia Eagles. Well, the Patriots did indeed look like a regular team this past Sunday Night. The Eagles laid a blue-print on how to beat their defense. Now teams just have to be able to do it. It’s interesting to note that a pick-six and an ill-advised pass late in the game keeps them undefeated. Can they go 19-0, yes. Do I think they will, no.
2. Dallas Cowboys (10-1). Last: WON 34-3 against New York Jets. The Cowboys once again looked dominant easily disposing of a bad team. This week’s game will surely determine home filed advantage in the NFC. I give Dallas the edge over Green Bay because of their ability to run the ball late in games and they get to play at home this week. 3. Indianapolis Colts (9-2). Last: WON 31-13 at Atlanta Falcons. The Colts got back on track, granted in was against one of the worst teams in the league, but sometimes that needs to happen. I can’t state enough the value of Marvin Harrison to this team. They get Jacksonville this week and I believe Harrison will play in this extremely important divisional game. Cue: Peyton Manning breathing a huge sigh of relief.
4. Green Bay Packers (10-1). Last: WON 37-26 at Detroit Lions. Green Bay is probably the feel good story of the year in the NFL and why not? They’ve got a shot at clinching home field throughout when they play at Dallas on Thursday. I’m giving them a chance, but it will take a few things to go their way for it to happen.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars (8-3). Last: WON 36-14 against Buffalo Bills. Jacksonville has easily had the cushiest schedule in the NFL so far this year, but they will finally start to get challenged in the next few weeks, so we’ll see where this team really stands. It begins this week at Indy, and Marvin Harrison will likely play. If Mathis plays, Jacksonville has a chance with its ball control, protect the ball philosophy that could keep Manning frustrated all game. I think this one’s a close game. 6. Pittsburgh Steelers (8-3). Last: WON 3-0 against Miami Dolphins. Hmm, I don’t know what to think of Pittsburgh all of a sudden. You lose to the Jets in overtime, then comeback on Monday Night and almost lay another egg to the winless Dolphins. Granted, if the weather was better, I think you see a very different final score. I was in Pittsburgh this past Monday Night and let me tell you, after 4 High School Championship games Friday, Pitt football Saturday, and a torrential down pour, that field was toast. They say it will be ready for this Sunday Night against Cincy. God I hope so.
7. Cleveland Browns (7-4). Last: WON 27-17 against Houston Texans. As I said a few weeks ago, this is a playoff team. The defense is stepping up its game and the offense is still rolling. They travel to Arizona this week and face another challenge. Ken Wisenhunt was offensive coordinator for Pittsburgh for numerous years and is used to seeing and having success against the Browns. A win here helps them keep pace with the Steelers and keeps them in that all important 6th and final playoff spot for now. The key in this one is stopping that potent Cardinal offense that is firing on all cylinders right now.
8. Seattle Seahawks (7-4). Last: WON 24-19 at St. Louis Rams. As much as I hate ranking an NFC WEST team this high, Seattle deserves some props for playing well and playing consistent. I do believe they are a better team right now without Shaun Alexander. I don’t think they have to worry about another NFC WEST team catching them as this point, but they need a big win playing at Philly this week. Philly should have upset the Pats this past week, and A.J. Feely at QB makes them better. This is a huge conference game for Seattle.
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-4). Last: WON 19-13 against Washington Redskins. Tampa Bay just keeps plugging away, handling their business and winning games. A huge divisional match this week against the Saints can really help separate them in the race for the NFC SOUTH. The Tampa 2 defense has really frustrated Brees this year and the lack of a Saints run game really puts Tampa in a great spot. I think Jeff Garcia needs to play and play well for them to win this week.
10. San Diego Chargers (6-5). Last: WON 32-14 against Baltimore Ravens. Up and down, Up and down… When is this team going to show me some consistency? Just like the NFC WEST, the AFC WEST also is guaranteed one of its teams to make the playoffs. Luckily for San Diego, they’re just slightly better than the rest of the teams there. All four AFC WEST teams play each other this week with San Diego traveling to Kansas City. I wonder which Charger team will show up this week? Every game counts for this team. A slip up now and the division may slip away.
11. New York Giants (7-4). Last: LOST 17-41 against Minnesota Vikings. Wow, Eli Manning is bad, or was it because brother Peyton was in attendance when he threw 4 picks against Minnesota this past week. Ouch. This team can’t win if it can’t run the ball and throw play-action off the run. Droughns is serviceable, but without Jacobs in the line-up, this is pretty much a one dimensional team. The defense is doing everything it can to keep them competitive, but when they’re not on the field and the other team is scoring touchdowns, there’s not to much you can do.
12. Detroit Lions (6-5). Last: LOST 26-37 against Green Bay Packers. I just don’t think the Lions have a good enough team this year to make the playoffs. Yes, I’m now calling for them to NOT make it. They’re close, and yes, they may still make it this year, but they won’t get very far in January if they do. As much as I like Jon Kitna, I don’t think he can get the job done. Inconsistency killed the cat, or in this case, the Lion.
13. New Orleans Saints (5-6). Last: WON 31-6 at Carolina Panthers. I’ve taken a lot of heat for loving the Saints, but something tells me this team is not finished. They would get a huge boost if they could beat division foe Tampa Bay this week. I also don’t think a wild card spot is out of the question. They need some type of run game to stay competitive though. Oddly, this team plays better on the road than at home. That’s very strange and needs to change for them to have a chance going forward.
14. Minnesota Vikings (5-6). Last: WON 41-17 at New York Giants. I like the Vikings defense, a lot. They looked much better against the pass than they have all season. They should get Adrian Peterson back this week, but I’m not sure they should. They’re at home against the Lions and Chester Taylor has been lights out since taking over as the featured back. Give Purple Jesus or whatever you call him another week to get that knee better. A playoff push is not out of the question, but having Peterson out for year would raise a lot of questions.
15. Tennessee Titans (6-5). Last: LOST 6-35 at Cincinnati Bengals. This is another team on the down and out. They win by building a lead, then protecting by running late. Without Albert Haynesworth, this defense is nothing more than a wet paper bag. A huge divisional game at home against the T
