The NFL draft came and went this weekend for all thirty-two teams. Teams were drafting based on needs and best available player. In this weekend’s draft, there were thirteen quarterback selected from Matt Ryan (Boston College…now an Atlanta Falcon) to Alex Brink (Washington State… now a Houston Texan). The teams that picked quarterbacks were: Giants (two), Packers (two), Ravens, Dolphins, Patriots, Steelers, Bucs, Vikings and Redskins. The Giants, Pats, and Steelers picked quarterbacks “because they could”. The Ravens, Vikings, and Dolphins picked quarterbacks out of necessity. While the Bucs and Skins fell somewhere in between the two groups.
The decision to not draft a quarterback was not negligent, but IDIOTIC! The Bears had a plan; the plan was to address the team needs. What is the biggest need on this Bears team and has been the biggest need of the Bears Franchise? The answer is: A FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK!!! The last Franchise quarterback for the Bears was Sid LUCKMAN. He was quarterback from 1939 to 1950! That is 58 years and counting.
The Bears management especially G.M. Jerry Angelo is convinced that the Bears do not need a “great” quarterback to win the Super bowl. It seems as the Bears are comparing themselves to 2001 Ravens team and the 2003 Bucs. The Ravens won the Super bowl with an average quarterback in Trent Dilfer, and good running game, Priest Holmes, and a great defense lead by Ray Lewis. While the Bucs were from the same mold, average quarterback, Brad Johnson, good running game, Dunn/Alstott, and a great defense led by Sapp, #### and Brooks. The fact that the Bears made the Super Bowl in 2006, with a similar mold, reinforced the point. Their management believes they can without a FRANCHISE quarterback.
The most disappointing thing is that Bears have not taken a quarterback since Kyle Orton. The biggest need in franchise history and three drafts in a row, there was not even an ATTEMPT to address it. Negligent and idiotic might not be the proper words to describe the Bears draft.
The only word that comes to mind is DISSAPOINTING.
It doesn't make sense...without the QB issue addressed the Bears will have another subpar season. Although a superior defense CAN carry a team, I'm not sure if their defense is superior anymore.
Even the likes of Andre Woodson was picked up in the 6th rd...they definitely had their chances to get somebody.
The Bears should get with the Bucs because they have a plethora of QBs on their roster.
Which QB that was avilable in the draft, do you think would have been able to win the starting position this season? Save for possibly Matt Ryan, (who, by the way, I think is going to be a total bust), not one QB in the draft would be better suited to run the offense THIS SEASON than either Rex or Orton. This year was a particularly weak QB crop. We will see, but I don't think any of them will be superstars. The Bears are not rebuilding. They are two seasons removed from the Super Bowl, and had a rash of injuries last season. So if the Bears are in a win-now mentality, what difference does it make whether we draft a QB this year or next? The Bears had a very successful draft, addressing their real needs...o-line and RB. Sorry, dude, but I completely agree with the Bears not wasting picks on average QB's.
You are dead wrong, and you watch too much TV. Grossman was the PRIMARY reason that the Bears started out the 2006 season 7-0. That 7-0 start, is the primary reason they were able to attain homefield advantage. Homefield advantage was the primary reason they were able to move on through the playoffs to the big game. Give the kid a little credit. I agree with Dabears, I think last season, the QB position was the least of our problems. Show me a QB who succeeds, behind a porous offensive line, and with a dope-smoking worthless hump for a RB, and receivers that drop 2 out of 3 balls thrown their direction.
Competition usually brings out the best in players. Bears failed to draft someone to push both Orton & Grossman. They already know what each other can do. Foolish Bears.
Angelo needs to go, and Mommy Bear should consider handing off the estimated Billion Dollar Plus team to the kids and they can hold Smith accountable for stupid O&D Coordinator choices as well and no QB answers. They did sign two non-draft QB's hoping one would be another Romo in the making but lets face it, our offensive drafting talents are about as good as Benson and Grossman are at their jobs respectively. Ya think it might be time to let go Mommy Bear? Or, at least fire Angelo puhlese!!!

well it's obvious that you are a hater of the bears current qb's, however, I think they did the right thing, none and i repeat none of these guys are better right now than rex or kyle. it's pretty obvious to me that the bears do not see themselves as rebuilding and they did sign some free-agent rookies who might just pan out,i guess this way, they don't have to answer for making another draft mistake at the qb position............
