Adam Archuleta was by far one of the WORST safeties in all of football last season. The Bears acquired Archuleta from the Redskins last season. When the Bears acquired from Redskins, he had been demoted to special teams. The Bears hope with Archuleta was that he would regain the form he enjoyed with Lovie Smith in St. Louis.
The word from both the Bears and Archuleta blamed the system in Washington. The Bears and Archuleta thought, he would be amazing in the Bears cover 2 scheme. Turns out, there were reasons why the Redskins demoted him to special teams.
The Bears learned those reasons the hard way. Archuleta cannot cover anyone, can’t tackle, and does know his assignments. I affectionately named him: ARCH-LET-THEM-SCORE .
All these reasons, brings me to the point of this blog, why have the Bears not cut him yet? The Bears should not be stubborn, they should admit they made a mistake and cut him today. They lost a 6th round pick and Chris Harris in the deal for Archuleta. Chris Harris was traded to make room for Archuleta.
He was a major reason why the Bears defense was so bad last season. The Bears counted a guy who is worthless!
Archuleta’s numbers from last season were: one cast, hundreds of missed tackles, and a 7-9 record.
i literally got sick watching him play, he chose terrible angles and my 5yr old son could atleast tripped a running back up....i like Lovie but he is responsible for this experiment and his job is on the line with this draft....
To answer your question in two words: Lovie Smith. Smith has strong connections with Archuletta from their days back in the Lou and the word out of Bears camp is that Lovie is still trying to figure out what to with him. The good new is that even if they do keep him, they will definitely restructure his contract AND reduce to him to special teams duty and perhaps third string safety. All that said, the idea that he will be in camp come next summer makes me sick. he is awful and it's about time Angelo steps in and knocks some sense into Lovie Smith or just goes around Lovie and kisses him AstaLaByeBye himself.
sls, honestly, what were the Bears to do? The Bears would have to pay way too much to get McNabb from Philly, and its not like the Bears have many receivers to throw to either. The free agency class is brutally weak at QB and the Bears have way more pressing needs than Donovan McNabb, that being their O-Line. Once the Bears solidify in the trenches, both the running game AND the passing game will get better. As sad as it sounds, the Bears got the #1 Free Agent QB in the league. Plus, it is likely safe to assume that the Bears will nab a QB in the draft, maybe Andre Woodson if he falls to the middle of the second round, which he very likely may.
Truly, I can't figure what happened to Archuleta. I know what was happening in Washington, but, like everyone else (Including the Skins players) I really thought this guy would return to his form from the Rams days once he returned to a defensive scheme that he used to know well. He was really on fire there, and showed what he really had. WTF happened? Has anyone heard any comments from any Bears defensive guys?

Yeah Lovie - P*I*S*S some more RB opportunities away will ya! It's not like we have a chance thanks to you and that wonderful O staff that you kept on for another long and unproductive year! Really are the Vikings, Seahawks, or Cowboys paying you more???
