I just heard today (and I may be jumping the gun) that the Lions are hiring Mike Martz. This is the BEST move so far (pending a sweet T.O. deal) in the off-season. Martz is an offensive genius. I know I'm gonna hear from some St. Louis fans saying he couldn't produce after #### V. left St. Louis, but hey - maybe the guy just doesn'y have the juice to be an effective head coach. I alos heard one of my collegues say that Martz quit St. Louis, I don't think that's true. He did step aside because of health reasons, but I highly don't belive he quit.
ANYWAY. Given the weapons he has to play with (Williams, Williams, and Rogers), and the potential in Joey Harrington, Detroit's offense has instantly been given a charge.
Plus the NFC North is weak to begin with.
As a Lions fan, I always hope for the best EVERY year.
Hey, things can only get better.................... right?
I would be one of those Rams fans. If you hear a single one of us say this is a bad move, I would be shocked. It is not maybe, it is fact, he is a great offensive coordinator, he is a headcase as a headcoach. I have said that alot lately, but it is fact, it was like Days of our Lives or something around here for three years now. If the Lions do net Martz, I see them making a serious push for the playoffs maybe as soon as next year. Just for the love of all that is holy hope nobody decides to promote him to the head position. He is an egomaniac who refuses to change his play calling to fit the game. A head coach can keep him in place and keep the play calling more balanced if needed. I hope you do net him, he would do wonders for that promising young offense!!

Potential in Joey Harrington? What quarterback have you been watching for the last four years? If the Lions were able and willing to draft Cutler, you would see a QB who is quicker on his feet, probably runs better, has a quicker release, has a stronger arm, is more willing to pass the ball downfield, and is less willing to just stand in the pocket until he gets sacked. The guy loves to throw the ball, and will find someone faster than Harrington will. His only problem is knowing when to not gamble and just throw the ball away.
Mike Martz will take one look at the offense. Three weeks later after he's done laughing, he will help draft a real quarterback, help get receivers who know how to catch, and then put in a real playbook. As long as he doesn't call defensive plays or works at all with Special Teams, he will be really good for the Lions.
Close, but Gibbs giving up control of the offense and landing one of the more sought after offensive coordinators (Saunders) to supplement defensive guru Greg Williams adds up to; watch out NFC. Provided of course that Brunell gets the pink slip he so justly deserves!
I am a new FOX Sports Blogger who is from Mount Clemens, Michgan. I currently live in Houston, Texas and have lived in many states. I support all teams from Michgan with my inter-state college rivalry favoring the University of Michigan. I would like to think I have a pretty good knowledge of sports, particularly Michigan team sports.
I have been asked by a few of my friends to blog because I have some good / funny opinions about things, and I have been told I should post them somewhere.
I hope you dig the posts........ ............. ...
