Things That Disgust Me: Newscasters and Airlines
Oct 18, 2007 | 4:03PM | report this
- NOT SPORTS/RACING RELATED -

I'm sitting in Philly's airport, waiting for my thrice delayed flight home to Indy, typing very awkwardly on my clunky Treo, to relay my utter horror at what I'm witnessing on CNN. Veteran financial anchor turned "talking curmudgeon/anchor" and real life incarnation of Howard Beale - Lou Dobbs - HAS BEEN GIVEN A PRIME TIME "NEWS SHOW" on CNN.

What #### ratings-#### #### of an executive gave the go-ahead to this? Has there been a worse broadcast personnel decision in the past five years? O.K., except for Nancy Grace.

A harbinger of The End Times? A statement of the slumping will/intelligence of the people? Or just one more abomination foisted on this country by my generation, "The Suckiest Generation"?

My flight has now been delayed a fourth time, and Lou has said "incredibly outrageous" and made that "I just #### Mr. Hankey" face at least ten times.

I'm sure as hell mad and I'm taking it just fine. ... no, ... Hell! I'm mad, and I'm gonna suck it up plenty more! Nahh, ... I'm madly taking it up the tailpipe and sure as hell won't , uh, won't be happy about it. ... that's not it, ... I'm in hell and I can't get up. ... whatever, ... I'm sticking my head out the window and raging about SOMETHING. Won't you join me?

Hilarious! Also, sad, but true.

I'm not sure what my intended topic was: the placement of Ragin' Lou, one of the most lackluster broadcasters in memory, in a such a high profile time slot - or the deregulation of the airline industry in the U.S.

We were unable to board my flight until four hours after scheduled departure time. We then pushed away four and one-half hours after scheduled departure time. We then sat on the runway for one hour and forty-five minutes before pushing into queue for take-off (the attendants WERE courteous, serving cold water and peanuts to we compliant, non-violent dipwads sitting miserably at the mercy of an airline who clearly had no fundamental regard or respect for it's customers - I'm now making an "I just #### Mr. Hankey" face). We took off nearly seven hours after scheduled departure time.

Where's Ragin' Lou when you need him?

The nation's answer to a real bigot and wantoned racist ! But then again that's just my point of view.
I've a new post up under this guise titled
Stragglers Needn't Apply And That Includes You Too McClaren ! It touches on England's inexplicable loss to Russia in that European Championship qualifying game. They may well be on the out's after that loss.

A bigot? Nah. I'm sure some of his best friends are hispanic, black, or (shudder) Canadian.

I've also just noticed this disturbing factoid:

Lou Dobbs looks as though he could well be Rosie O'Donnell's older brother. Same chubby face, same ragin' 'tude, same lack of charisma, same squinched-up face when angry ...

Could it be?

All the more reason I do not listen or watch ESPN news. I think Fox news although a bit sensationalist is quite a bit better. then you throw in the NASCAR coverage.

It seems incompetentcy is the primary requirement for ESPN with their news and sports casters.

Could you have rented a car and Driven to Indy Faster??

ESPN? Lol.

If you count the three hours it took me to drive to the airport and leave enough time to get through security checks (no check-in's accepted later than 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure time ...) and so on ... I could have driven there faster.

Competency isn't a prerequisite to be on ESPN or any other network. Therein lies the answer as to why you've narcissists like Rather , O'Reilly and Dobbs. And with regard to the ingrates on ESPN it's best just viewing with the mute button on.
That's unless you're watching Outside The Lines. Quite possibly the best news magazine program on tv. There you'll find that guys are above all professional.

After having watched the game between the Giants and the Dolphins. I'm beginning to wonder why it is that the NFL and Goodell in particular is so insistent to ram the game down the throats of the Europeans who aren't that interested in the game to begin with. NFL Europe faild abysmally and yet they now see it as fitting to play a regular season game in Europe.
Big mistake based on Sunday's display if nothing else. Both teams were woefully abysmal.
