As I scroll across the numerous posts about Vick and dogs, and how he should be banned for life, and how the NAACP is wrong and how hunting is not like dog fighting, I come up with a couple of questions that I need answered honestly. Now some of this reminds me of a sports talk radio show that I listen to every morning in the DC area. On the show, they have a segment that is called, " this may be a stupid question but.....". I have a couple saved up for this whole situation and would like the blogging community to attempt to answer them for me.
Do any white people actually own pit bulls? I wasn't aware that any did or do due to their aggresive nature toward other dogs and the white people I know have numerous pets. They are like "Lay's" you can't just have one. Disclaimer : This in no way is an insult or a generalization, I am only going by my co-workers and friends.
What happened to natural selection and how does hunting anything other than pidgeons, quail, and insects helpful to the ecosystem? Is it me or is this just a way hunters have found to go tract an animal in its natural habitat and kill it for sport. I am not attacking hunters (because they might shoot me) but if someone equates dog fighting to hunting TELL THE TRUTH, hunting for sport is widely accepted as a "manly, American" thing to do . Dog fighting is widely accepted as a "di####able, barbaric/Barbarian" thing to do.
The NAACP is only commenting on this case for publicity just like PETA so why are people getting so bent out of shape? Both of these organizations have little credibility with the majority for different reasons. Problem is that when there is a case that need to be addressed, both organizations can get media attention but neither can achieve more than that.
I know the media doesn't tell us everything but why isn't there a paper trail? I mean if he spent all this money on dog fighting supplies and stuff where are his receipts from Petco, etc.....
How is it that no teammate, former teammate has been implicated or knew about any of this? I know Vick thought he was the man and rarely hung out at the complex, that has been well documented but as the QB, he didn't hang out with any of those guys close enough for them to know that he was into this ####?

Blowing up a pidgeon with a shotgun vs animals fighting? Seems like the hunted have a poor chance of survival compared to the 50/50 odds in Dawg Fighting. While eating at a restaurant this weekend in Wi, my daughter noticed stuffed Bears, Deer, Rabbits, and an Elk. It still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Isn't it odd that most hunters could answer all the conditions in my previous answer with an affirmative "yep!"?

Once he pleads guilty maybe all the synchophants at the NAACP will crawl back uner the rock they came from.......Vick embarrassed his race, his school VTech,the NFL and the Atlantic Falcons, including ticket holders and supporters. People eat Bear, wolves? Man you can try to justify hunting all you want to but the point is that they kill animal for sport, not for dinner. People also eat dogs, just not vick and his cohorts. Please come with the answer, I am looking for.....
My take on the comments - Vick embarrassed himself first, his family second, and his profession. As for his race - I don't see the color card being an issue - he broke the law, he's being punished and I am glad he's going to prison to make some new friends.
As for hunting vs dog fighting - different planets! fatmaw1 - that's right, we eat the birds, deer, elk, and we do not eat the dogs (who btw are kept in captivity - the pigeons are not).
Perhaps if Vick wanted to feel more 'manly' or whatever feeling a sicko gets from mistreating animals - then he should go hunt down some pheasants with his noose, or take a baseball bat and try and bludgeon an elk. Good luck with that.

I've said on numerous occasions that I don't like hunting. However, shooting a bear, wolf, deer, or any other animal thru the heart isn't the same as hanging, electrocuting, or drowning an animal.
I don't like hunting for sport. I hate hunting safari's. I agree with you on the hunting part.
However, in North Carolina the deer population is so large, we literally have about a claim a day come thru our office where someone has hit a deer. Granted, it is US who has infringed on THEIR territory. However, having a hunting season (humane) to keep the populations down is one of the steps taken to keep disease and overpopulation down.
Bears and wolves...I feel...should be protected at all times.
3) What the #### does rap have anything to do with dog fighting?
Obviously it has everything to do with dog fighting. It all started with "Ice Ice Baby"/"Who Let the Dogs Out" and finally evolved into Dog fighting.

Fighting dogs bread for the sole purpose of illegal fighting...I'm sure there are many Pit Bull pedigrees registered with the American Kennel Club. Dat, I've been a regular to AKC Show in Chicago for a number years and rarely see a representation of any ethnic group other than Caucasian. I'm guessing that only Whites can truly meet the snooty, snotty, snobby requirements of the AKC.
I have never seen Bear, wolf or dog offered at the meat counter at Safeway. You are grasping at straws my friend. There is no way to get around the fact that Vick is one sick puppy (pun intended) who will now be able to spend some quality time in a Federal Prison finding his inner child.
The entire canine population breathes a sigh of relief.

I'm ####ing thrilled that we (those who pay taxes) get to foot the bill for Vick's upcoming encarceration. I wanted a couple fo questions answered and all of a sudden, i am a Vick lover or dog hater or whatever you called me, but while I never defended dog fighting or in no way defended Vick you clowns are acting like I did, I asked 5 questions and Smoke is the only one who answered them. As for hunting, I asked people basically why don't they have a problem with hunting for sport, which is what most people do. They don't hunt for food, they do it for sport.
If Troy Aikman did what Vick did, I would want him fried. The point about the NAACP is that they wanted to #### the Duke Lacrosse players who turned out to be innocent. Did they apologise. When a pro athlete drives under the influence....no big deal (see Tony Larussa catching a nap at a stop light in Florida).

Cal, i went and read your blog I see what type of guy, girl, or child you are but while I was reading your recent comment I noticed that rape is a violent crime, and that crime was also said to "racially" motivated since she claimed they shouted racial remarks to her. That is why they were coming down on them like that. I will repeat it again since you did not understand the first time, like PETA they want the spotlight not pure justice. And Troy Aikman would never do anything like that he was smart, accurate and slow of foot, while Vick is the exact opposite.

My problem with Vick overall is the clear stupidity shown by him and his accomplices. How is that you're prepared to endanger not only your own livelihood but that of your family ? He's not only shamed himself but his family's name and left a community at a loss to explain his actions. The fans of the Falcons probably feel betrayed and at the same time Blank must now feel that Vick's action has put the franchise in a precarious situation this season. Dat; Just because a person hunts doesn't make them a ####. I don't hunt but my son does and does so only and purly for the meat. We also fish and only keep that what we intend to eat. Ok, it is obvious that no one knows anyone that just hunts for sport(which means they don't eat the meat), and I am just dilusional. 1- Yes "white" people do own Pit Bulls. I am white and three members of my family have Pits. One pit named deeohgee (yes the real spelling is DOG) was the sweetest dog I have known, and was in fact stolen, not once, not twice, but three times. The last time was the worst because he had been tossed into a dog fight .He never recovered. Broke my little cousins heart. He was only six at the time.
2-Hunting vs. Dog fighting...Okay seriously I cannot believe I am having to make this distinction. First of all hunting puts food on the table. Don't believe me? Come to my house for dinner during the fall and winter. My Husband makes some awesome venison bbq, and fried venison. Do I hunt...Hell no! But do I eat it? It took me a while, but once I got over the "Bambi" issue, I realized people in not just the US, but in Europe and many other nations hunt for their food.
But, the main reason is over population. Have you ever seen or read a story about deer over populating? These animals over breed and then starve, wreak havoc on local farming areas, and then mix into our general population by eating human trash. I know you have seen the video of deer crashing through plate glass windows before, or how about having to constantly play dodge the deer in the headlights. Ask anyone who has ever hit a deer just how much it costs to fix their vehicle. So I say keep them in the woods!
What is more humane?? It is up to each person to make their own decision. It really is not just mainly an American thing either.

Over in Europe they hunt for sport more than sustenance. Dog fighting on the other hand is breeding animals to fight animals. Viciously fight...to the death, either by the dog or the human, who has bet on this animal. I can assure you in hunting animals are not electrocuted, drowned or strangled by a human hand.
3-What does any of this have to do with rap??? I am lost, as I am not real sure who has said what to that regard.
4-PETA is an idiotic organization. They compared the killing of chickens to the holocaust! And I should know, because the idiots are home based here in Norfolk VA. On the other hand they do get more press than say the regular humane society. So unfortunately for all the normal people speaking out against cruelty to dogs and cats, they get overshadowed by PETA.
Now as far as the NAACP, another way too over the top organization that overshadows the good corps. out there as well. I will not call them idiots, because they have never compared chickens to the holocausts, but they have said and done things that now cause me to roll my eyes at the mention of their name!
As to why people are so outraged by the NAACP and not at PETA. Fist off I think that people are outraged at the brutal crimes against these dogs, and that this time PETA just so happens to be on the same side. As far as the NAACP people see that they are taken the side of the criminal actions against the dogs. That is the difference, and what a BIG difference it is!

6- How do you think Vick is going to get a lighter sentence? Which has been the talk of the town here, though I am not sure about nationally, because I have not caught my sports center or NFL network today. He is going to have to give up names, if he has not already, to get a sentence of 18 months or less. And I would be willing to bet that there are several NFL players and high rolling dog fighting rings out there who are just waiting for a knock on their door. I hope that Vick is given a lot of protection if he does give up these people, because we all know how they deal with people who become a stool pigeon. Unfortunately this is what happens when you get into these shady businesses.

Yeah I have heard of the endangered species act but most of these animals(in this country) were hunted for their hides, skin, talons, etc... I was refering to people who hunt to mount(not eat).

They will see it. It is only about 15 min. from ODU. It is about 25.00 dollars per person, but it is a Buffett, and it has EVERYTHING you could ever want when it comes to seafood. Plus the dessert tray is a Buffett, and I am a girl who likes her sweets and seafood, and I and many people here give it 5 out of 5 stars!

1.) The feds would not pursue this so strongly without a paper trail. It's called EVIDENCE and they are not going to give you and I their evidence until such time that a plea is made or comes out at a trial. To even ask this question shows a definate lack of understanding of our judicial system.
2.) Yes in certain parts of the country deer hunting keeps the deer from overpopulating, starving to death in cold winters and destroying significent amount of crops during the summer.
3.) prior to thug rap, most arrests for dog fighting was in the rural south and among poor whites. Today it's heavily weighted in the "rap culture" and urban compared to the rural areas. To even ask this question shows little willingness to accept the seeds that thug rap has sown. Drug dealing, illegal weapons, and violence is the province of both thug rap and dog fighting. And before you draw yourself up and declare none of this was a part of the Vick operation might I remind you that a.) the constant smell of bud was what got the authorities alerted in the first place and b.) the feds have other charges they're willing to file and c.) the state also involved. Your boy is going down and if decent black people like myself and dog lovers in this country have anything to say about it he won't be back in the NFL.

Yes, lots of white people own pits. Some as pets, some to guard their Harleys or drugs, some people own them to enhance that "tough guy" personna. Same basic reasons, I suppose, that anyone of any race would own a breed known for its fighting ability.
How does hunting work with, or in place of, natural selection? If you have ever lived in a rural area you would probably know the answer to this. We humans have ran off or killed the natural predators such as wolves so animals such as deer proliferate. I live in Cedar Rapids Iowa now and the deer "infestation" is so bad they are trying to renew a law for one more year that allows hunting inside the city limits. It is not the hunters crying for this law, but JQ Public. The deer are eating his garden, they are a road hazard (ever seen a car that hit a deer? it's a wonder that people survive such accidents), they eat their food supply to the point they endanger other species and themselves.
Since farmers and ranchers have eliminated all but man as a control over increasing deer population, hunting must increasingly play the role of wolves for deer and other species to continue.

Many of his teammates knew of his affinity towards pit bulls, and I assume any that knew of the fighting are keeping it to themselves lest they become as tarnished as MV.

1.) yeah they do, I got a friend who breeds them. They are very good dogs and are very loving.
2.) When we first began inhabiting the more rural and forested areas of America we brought our livestock basically into the habitate of wolves, coyotes,fox's, and bears. And since many farmers didnt like the idea of getting there livelyhood eaten they began hunting these natural predators to extinction. Do to this lack of natural predators there is nothing to manage to populations of deers and rabbits and such. So of course if there is no predators the population expands rapidly and very soon there is not enough food to support the animals in the ecosytem and they begin to starve to death and at that point dieses also rises throughout the ecosystem. So instead of letting animals die horrible horrible deaths the National Government regulates the number of animals that can be killed (or hunted) to prevent there numbers from going over what there ecoystem can provide for. What alot of people dont know is this is a science and basically the park rangers do more than prevent forest fires they gauge the number of deers each season and caculate how many can be allowed to be taken. I hope that explains cause that is pretty much simple ecogoly.
3.) I have no Idea whats soo ever what rap and dog fighting have to do with each other.
4.) I think the NAACP and PETA represent two extreme's and they are both wrong. There is common ground you just have to see it.

Good post. Even though I don't agree with your position, you lay it out quite nicely. I was going to take a stab at answering your questions.
1) Do any white people actually own pit bulls? Yes, I'm certain they do. However, I would agree with your premise that owning pit bulls is probably more prevalent in the black community. Seeing you were trying to be humorous with this, I will attempt to do the same. I believe there are pit bulls in Minnesota owned by White People. Chris Rock once said that Kirby Puckett and Prince are the only black people that live in Minnesota. Since Kirby passed, I would say the chances of Prince owning every pit bull in the State of Minnesota are slim to none.
2) Hunting - Here is the difference. Hunting is an activity that is legalized by the government for Americans to do two things: 1) Recreation, 2) Control the Population of a Species. It is heavily regulated. It can usually be done only in certain seasons. You have to use ammunition that will likely kill the animal on contact. In northern WI if they don't hunt the deer, there isn't enough food in the winter for them to survive. Half the deer population starves to death in the woods. Conversely, there is no open hunting on Bald Eagles, because it is a rare species. Pro Vick people are acting like hunting is some free for all. It is legal, as long as it is done in certain places, at certain times of the years, with certain weapons. Trust me; the government throws people in jail that break the rules of hunting. This isn't Davy Crocket and the wild frontier.

I don't think a lot of people support PETA, as much as they aren't getting criticized on this issue, because they are on the popular side of the issue. The thing that makes me the maddest with the NAACP is the hypocrisy. I get told that Michael Vick is a human being that made a mistake, deserves a second chance, and I should be a forgiving person. Yet when Don Imus makes a "mistake" and says stupid stuff on the airwaves that he has no business saying, I didn't see the NAACP preaching that he deserved a second chance. Instead, he should never be given a microphone for the rest of his life. Where is the consistency? Single issue organizations get so caught up in advancing their own agenda; they often fail to look at the whole picture. What was most disappointing was the fact that they didn't seem very interested in protecting the 3 black co-defendants, who probably could use their help, and are instead interested in protecting the victim that has a $130 million dollar contract and NFL career. I wonder how much money Vick will donate to the NAACP in the future, and if that has any influence on their decision of which of the four horses to back in that race?

I have to admit that i was ignorant of the over population of deer since, I reside in the city and am from the Dallas area so not much familiarity with deer but thanx. As for the rap correlation I have seen that in many bloggers comments and had to wonder where ther basis was for that.
5) Paper trail - You will never know what they had. The prosecution may very well have an extensive paper trail. Now that all four have pleaded guilty, there will be no trial and we may never know what evidence they had. If Vick was that interested in seeing the case against him, he should have gone for the trial. Seeing he wasn’t, I would assume they had something.
6) How is it that no teammate, former teammate has been implicated or knew about any of this - How is it that serial killers can be married, have kids, and be active members in their church, yet have that dark secret? Some people are very good at hiding that other part of their life. Everyone says Vick is quiet, reserved, and kept to himself. Seems to me that kind of fits the profile for these types of acts, whether it is against people, or in this case, dogs.

Dat, I was not implying that MV used drugs or anything like that. I was simply making the association because both are illegal activity and because I actually do know quite abit about the drug culture, having at one time been a member in very good standing. Your typical user doesn't advertise, it's a good way to invite the curiosity of the man. He only confides about his activity with those he can trust, that is to say other users. I just think anyone involved in illegal activity for the most part keep their mouth shut, unless they are stupid. Those they do talk to are usually also involved, so they keep their mouth shut as well. Yes, I'm sure many people wanted to get close to MV, but how many did he trust? And maybe he trusted them cuz they had too much to lose by opening their mouths? The other reason he would trust someone is because they are trustworthy, so they would keep quiet too.

If you hoodrats did anything but get high and claim your "homie" Vick was a victim you'd have to face the facts that thug rap is responsible for nearly 70% of all young black males between 18-25 being either on parole, probation, in jail, in prison etc. It's not racism. This has nothing to do with the post, but it sorta does. I am not a hunter myself but I have many friends and relatives that do, and I have talked with them about hunting. First, they do it, for the most part, because they enjoy it. A reasonable person would be hard put to deny this fact. But there is a sort of honor code that they follow. Even amongst hunters someone who kills just for the thrill is frowned upon. A hunter that doesn't know how to field dress his kill isn't a real man. I guess part of the attraction is everyone admiring the good meat that the hunter has put on the table.
Bottom line is that most hunters do it for enjoyment but also eat what they kill, and it does have a place in conservation and is regulated.
Wow, these blogs are crazy. Stephon Marbury who I take is from the city from what I've read on his shoes that he sells for 14.95 so parents who can't afford the over priced brands can afford a good shoe. So, I think his comment was quick and did'nt really give it much thought. That's beside what's going on. Our judicial system as corrupt and sometimes unfair to less fortunate people who have to go with a public defender will decide from hard evidence wether he is guilty or not. I've seen a dvd of a dog fight and it's positively cruel and wrong, especially the so called training or mistreatment of these animals to get them to fight.
