National Security (too scared)
Dec 04, 2007 | 12:29PM | report this

Well it is Tuesday, so guess what here comes everybody's second guessing and i am no different. My two targets are my local teams, the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins. Both teams are led by offensive minded coaches, yet somehow this is their main deficiency. Both are way too conservative with their youn QBs and that hurt them this weekend.

Lets start with the Redskins, who went through one of the most tragic events in sports that I can recall. Dealing with that situation and the pressure of the playoff chase was a tremendous burden to put on a team. Emotion carried the 'skins through much of the game. The 'skins led 16- 14 with under a minute and a half to go. They had a 3rd & 8 and decided to take the conservative approach. They ran for 4 yds and punt. Not that they would have made a first down, but  you have to go win the game rather than hoping the other team loses it.

The mighty Ravens lose another one. Boller grew up in this game and played well, except for the interception in the fourth. This led to a field goal that close the gap to 24-20.  The Ravens then had two opportunities to put the game away and failed miserably each time. The last was the reason that Boller still had a lot of growing up to do. He rushed through some reads and took the safe play/checkdown. So they came up short. Billick continues to stunt his growth, as a QB who showed some promise.

Their continued conservative approach has lost them games that they should have won.

Like it or Not
Nov 19, 2007 | 12:52PM | report this

Well like it or not, TO and Randy Moss are Hall of Famers. I know they don't play for the Steelers, so there may not be room for them, but they deserve to be there. These two are the best atheletes ever to play the position, outside of Bob Hayes and Willie Gault. They have been dominant over the past ten years, but are just as famous  for their playmaking as they are for being malcontent.

Speaking of the Steelers, most of those players are in the Hall of Fame because of their super bowls. Steeler fans can deny it if they want to but the 49ers have 5 super bowls just like the Cowboys and there are nowhere near as many players from those teams in the Hall of Fame. They may not have as many players combined, maybe Streetcred will check on that for me. Is winning super bowls the criterior for induction? Some blogger was telling me how Issac Bruce belongs in the Hall of Fame, talk about a homer! After I finished laughing, I chastized him but realized that he is probably not the only guy who thinks like that. I then felt disturbed.

In these days of stats driven perception,  does the fact that these two guys are #3 and #4 in Td receptions mean as much. TO  caught 21 passes in a game, hell Jacksonville doesn't even throw that many passes a game (joke). Randy Moss has had numerous 1500 yd receiving years and had the best start of a career for a receiver ever. He also got Brian Billick a head  coaching job.  Are their stats alone great enough for people to ignore, the seasons these guys threw away in their careers?

Vinny and "managers"
Oct 16, 2007 | 8:54AM | report this

With all these new rules to protect QBs, guess what? They are still getting injured and teams are suffering because of it. That is the nature of the game and is a key reason why teams should be mandated to keep at least 3 QBs at all times. They could make a roster exception for QBs but I have a problem with the situation that occurred in the Arizona Cardinal at Carolina Panthers game. The two QBs who finished that game were guys who were a week removed from sitting whee we are sitting. I am not trying to hate on Vinny but I think America's reliance or desire for a quick fix has saturated head coaches minds.  Whatever happened to developing young QBs? Call me what you like but a 43 year old QB, should never be your starting QB or anything other than your clipboard holding mentor to your young quarterbacks.

Does anyone give QBs time to develop or do they just want game manager? My perfect example of this is Kyle Boller, I never was a big fan of his unlike Rex Grossman but Billick was very impatient with him and basically ruined him in my opinion. Baltimore had a tremendous defense, a great kicker and good running game but continued to lose games they shouldn't have because all of their games were close. That is what you get with a QB that "manages" the game, especially when you are also playing a team that has a QB that "manages" the game.  To mean that "manager" label means don't mess up has been drilled into these quarterbacks heads instead of teaching them how to correctly read defenses. Is it that people no longer feel like taking the time to develop a QB or is it that all of these guys are so terrible?

How do you develop an NFL QB? Time and patience are key, but decisiveness and confidence are mostly underrated. Talent is very important as well but for different reasons. For example, you can't teach some one to throw a good deep ball. Understand that and adjust, hell noodle armed QBs have been playing for years. Accuracy on short routes is more important anyway. Teach them how to help out their linemen by sliding and getting rid of the ball. I know I have come back to the age old question should the QB sit or play, but like the chicken and the egg it might never be answered. To be continued...........

USconspiraCy
Sep 28, 2007 | 12:58PM | report this

I know here we go again attacking USC, but while I am a well documented skeptic of the program, I can be close to neutral. My main beef with USC is that for the last three weekends, I have been forced to watch them drub an inferior opponent on national television. I understand the desire to televise the  number one team in the nation versus Nebraska, who has a large national following but verses Washington St. and now Washington. Most people think that Washington means the nation's capitol not the state. Now this is no attack on the Pac-10, despite what I usually say about them, but come on. Washington and Washington St. were terrible last year, so what makes the ABC/ESPN producers think that these games will be competitive?

The answer is simple, they don't, they are only showing these games on television to reiterate USC's perceived dominance of college football in the last couple of years. They are influencing voters who normaly don't see the west coast games( old foggies who go to bed too early). That is most west coast teams main complaint that people don't see their games because of the time difference, etc... This affects Heisman and BCS voting( remember 2003). While on the surface this post may sound like a useless rant, this could be yet another year of 3 undefeated teams. These massacres that have been witnessed by the nation will affect people view of the top teams. Take Ohio St. and Michigan last year, two teams who were on primetime or national television numerous times. Many people thought they were the best teams in the nation, when in reality USC, LSU and Florida would have beat both of those teams. Oklahoma fans, I have a couple of words for you, remember Auburn?

Did I miss something?The NFL = sissy?
Sep 25, 2007 | 8:58AM | report this

In the land of those without NFL ticket, fans rely on highlights to tell them stories of the game. I was able to catch 3 of the best games on the slate Sunday (Green Bay vs San Diego, Baltimore vs Arizona, and Washington vs NY Giants). The common denominator of these games was that they were physical and hard fought to the end. Great football to watch, while I still wondered what else was going on in the league. For these games, i got a few questions I need answered from people who saw the games.

Arizona at Baltimore: How are you a defenseless receiver if you have the ball?  I always thought the safety's job is to separate the ball from the receiver. An incorrect personal foul called cost the Cardinals the game. No one seems to be saying anything about it.

San Diego at Green Bay: There are too many cameras for people to be worrying about how Tomlinson was pouting on the sideline, and I like Phllip Rivers but you ain't Marino so no chastisizing receivers on the sideline. And how is it Norv's fault that the safety's dumb #### was too slow to react to a simple slant pass? Make the tackle.

NY Giants at Washington: Why the hell was Cooley left to block Strahan on two straight plays. He got his QB sacked both times, and I know Deadskins fans were cursing, then and about everything that followed.

Miami at NY Jets: No wonder New Yorkers are so grumpy, could you imagine watchin this game first and the Giants game later, whew!

San Franscisco at Pittsburgh: Alex Smith threw his first TD pass of the season, but they were 2-0, I guess he needs to stop throwing TD passes for them to win. This is not anywhere close to the Niners of old, they are looking more like Baltimore west.

Detroit at Philadelphia: This looked like USC vs Washington St., man 56 points, I thought Detroit had a decent defense?Kitna threw for like 446, and they lost really bad, maybe they need to start trying to run the ball.

Jacksonville at Denver: Am I to assume that Tennessee is better than Denver? The Broncos are not that good, but lucky for them neither is anyone in their division. They got punked and they still don't get any pressure on the QB.

Carolina at Atlanta: Since when was trash talking a penalty? Since when were players treated like they were in the NBA, this is football, rough and tough. The crew for this game should be ashamed of themselves. I thought Steve Smith was the best WR in the league? He aint do #### but talk and get roughed up. i got to see this game next time they play, hall and Smith definetely don't like each other.

St. Louis at Tampa Bay: I hate Gruden and this is well documented, but they have got that defense together and the line has been playing decent. I don't know what he was trying to do to Mark Clayton but all that lame chucky #### don't work on some players and he is one of the guys you drafted not one of the players you inherited, treat him better than you did Sapp and #### and Rice or you will continue to be the loser you are.

UT( is it a university of thugs?)
Sep 20, 2007 | 8:14AM | report this

The University of Texas at Austin is probably one of the best schools in America, but they are not limited to being only a great academic institution. They also have great teams sports, but along with that comes a couple of troublemakers. The football team has had six arrest since June, and the fans and some of you bloggers are taking notice. The following comments are taken from some of you clowns who respond to the Fox articles.

here is a list I found that starts in 2002. Look at the quality kids Mac gets in his program:

2002
Cedric Benson - drug charges.

2003
Selvin Young, was arrested in 2003 along with linebacker Aaron Harris - defensive tackle Larry Dibbles and cornerback Edorian McCullough for marijuana possession. Those charges were dropped due to inadmissible evidence.

2003
Cedric Benson - criminal trespassing.

12.14.04
Erik Hardeman felongy possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and misdemeanor marijuana possession.

12.10.05
Cedric Griffin investigated for assault charges; no charges formally filed by APD due to impending Rose Bowl.

12.19.05
The arrest of wide receiver Myron Hardy, charged with carrying a prohibited weapon.

05.19.06
Ramonce Taylor, felony possession of marijuana.

09.04.06
Tarell Brown, was arrested with Tyrell Gatewood and former Texas linebacker Aaron Harris with misdemeanor drug and weapon charges.

02.21.07
Ahmard Howard and Brandon Collins arrested for drug possession. Both passed a drug test, and appear to have been "victims" of the Wrong Place/Wrong Time thing.

6.01.07
Junior defensive end Henry Melton was arrested on a DWI charge June 1 after being pulled over in the Sixth Street entertainment district.

6.11.07
Robert Joseph, charged with misdemeanor burglary of a vehicle

07.28.07
Former Longhorn safety Robert Joseph, charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony.

07.28.07
Sergio Kindle, charged with driving while intoxicated.

08.02.07
Andre Jones, charged with aggravated robbery (should be armed robbery).

09.13.07
Tyrell Gatewood, charged with misdemeanor possession.

09.17.07
James Henry, charged with obstruction or retaliation and tampering or fabricating physical evidence. Both offenses are third-degree felonies

This is just a list of stuff the football players have or been charged with, no one was convicted!

The NCAA should not waste their time with idiots. Go back to it being a honor to get a scholarship on the grounds of the caliber of the student athlete. Don't waste my alumi money on thugs, no return for the money there. Make it to where coaches are more accountable and the AD's for recruiting good citizen athletes. It's a no brainer.
And please don't give me the excuse it's all about ticket sales. Its all about the schools reputation.

What is this guy talking about, these guys are making millions more for the univerity than you could ever donate with you little alumni contribution.

no body here said they weren't 18-21 once. just because you are that age doesn't give you the right to take large amounts of drugs, steal from people, assault people, brandish guns and things like that. these kids are GIVEN a FREE college education and still act like street thugs. There are regular students that get expelled from school for some of the things these kids get into. I did some stupid stuff at that age but 90% was not a CRIME. The other 10% might have been criminal but I was NOT on a FREE RIDE TO AN EXPENSIVE INSTITUTE OF HIGHER EDUCATION. If I was you can bet your burnt orange BLEEP that I would have not done that 10%. people like you make me sick. if we don't hold these kids accountable and they make it into the NFL they end up like Pac Man, Tank and Vick and the countless others that think they have the right to do whatever the fukc they want. get a grip texas fan and realize that you are one death away from the ncaa handing down some sever death penalty type of punishment. with success comes scrutnity if you can't handle it, quit playing

It is Texas' fault that guys like Pacman, Tank, and Vick are in the league feel like doing what they want. Hmmm, I think it is the money, when you got money you are allowed to do what you want mostly, that is what America teaches us and this dude sounds like Dusty.

First I would like to say that I live in a town in Montana that has a div.1-AA team and the same problems happen here. Everyone wants to judge Texas like they are the only Univ. that has a problem with thier student atheltets. People need to get a life and face the fact that it happens at every university small and big and that even includes OU. You people make me sick, you think your team is so perfect and that your athletes dont do bleep and that your coach is a god of some kind. That university is no better than any other one and your coach BLEEP s just as bad.

The burglary and robbery charges are bad. But, let's be honest about the marijuana and DUI charges. They aren't doing anything that thousands upon thousands of other college students aren't doing. It's not smart on their part but I can't throw stones.

Well enough blogger bashing for one day, I liked the two comments at the end but I truly believe that similar to New York' s hip-hop police that Austin has a specific division for these football players at Texas. That is not condoning or saying that the"man" is out to get them but that is from friends who attended UT and my impression of the situations.  People act like crime is not wide spread throught college campuses, it is. My point is that some of you all go way overboard and act like these guys don't make mistakes and that what they do off the field really translates to on the field performance. The best guys are not always the best players and it never will be that way. Football is a violent game and surprise violent #### gravitate toward it, so you all get off your moral horses and realize that these guys are eventually fazed out just not as soon as you would like them to be.

Patriot Games
Sep 18, 2007 | 11:46AM | report this

In the wake of spygate, and other rules and their enforcement,  anticipate the measures that the NFL coaches willl go to to incorporate these rules onto the playing field. Celebrations seem to be the most familiar target and most of these rules can be linked to a single player. Emmitt Smith was famous for removing his helmet after he scored, which is now illegal. Illegal contact has been on the books, but has been enforced more strictly due to the Patriots tendency to chuck the Colts receivers(Ty Law). The Joe Horn/T.O./  Chad Johnson rule which eliminates these player's option of using the football as a prop. Now we have the Shockey rule, no spiking of thr ball after a big catch.

I understand taunting is very relevant to the fans. Many fans hate to see players showboat or are fed up with sack dancesor players signaling first downs. Two of my favorite player were flagged on Sunday.  T. O .for his spygate mock, and Shockey for his spike after a catch. I think the NFL is doing too much to discourage taunting because unlike hockey or baseball, fighting is not condoned( see Miami v. FIU). That is all that usually becomes of it, and that is the most extreme cases. I think my problem is that most new rules are never enforced consistently and that takes away from the game.

Where has all the swagger gone?
Sep 14, 2007 | 12:49PM | report this

Anyone who knows me know that I like swagger: defiant or conceited bearing; boastfulness, in my sports. I feel like there has been an absense of this lately and can't really put my finger on the reason why. I know some of you clowns love the Patriots and the way they do things, oops I mean, the integrity that their players play with or command in their locker room, oops Rodney Harrrison. I guess I will just use the Colts, no swagger just speed and that kind of boring always in your face kind of thing. Peyton please slow down on those commercials, I never hated you but was tired of hearing how great you are when you ain't never win anything but last year you did and now I am tired of seeing your punk #### in comercials. Whew!

T.O. has been quiet, Randy has been mild and  Chad has been dry, but on the horizon I see Plaxico "don't call me Plexiglass" Burress. if he can be as durable as plexiglass, he could finally play up to his potential. I miss you Hurricanes and FSU, where have you gone and who are these imposters in your place. Losing to Clemsux 3 out of 4 and struggling with UAB, and giving up 51 pts. Texas relying on that dude who played in the movie Frinday Night Lights and that Tokyo Drift mess. I might have to start rooting for Arizona St. I need somebody to root for that everyone else hates, I am open for suggestions.

Well I thought........(even more stupid questions)
Sep 10, 2007 | 12:16PM | report this

After a great weekend of football, except for my anklebiters team, I got just as many questions as I had before the season started. Some games were great some were snoozers and others were well what I expected. I will start with college football and then the NFL.

College Football

  1. For Mark Richt to be such an offensive minded coach, why can't Georgia ever get TDs instead of FGs? I mean for the last couple of years they have had this problem and it is not only Stafford's fault.
  2. OU is throttling everyone,  I blame Boise State and that damn Into the Blue special, blame them for that Statue of Liberty #### that made Michigan look so silly too.
  3. Tragedy has nothing to do with football, and while we all feel sorry for Virginia Tech, the whooping LSU put on them gave me another reason to feel sorry for them. damn!
  4. Texas and that damn Colt McCoy, while I am not a big fan of him, i like the fight he showed and it was good to see that the OC decided to give Charles the ball and hopefully he will scrapte that VY( Zone read play) that they love so much. Get Colt out of the pocket more and use him how Ohio St used Troy Smith last year.
  5. Colorado had me thinking upset until Arizona St seemed to rememeber they were better than the Buffs, while I like their uniforms and their program I can't support that brand of #### football, I saw from them that night.
  6. Nebraska has a tough shedule and no one is really saying anything about it.
  7. Notre Dame needs to startrunning the football or go find a back from somewhere before this kid Clausen is broken in two.

NFL

  1. I thought the Raiders had a good defense? They gave up like 36 pts?
  2. Talk about running a team into the ground, Gruden has done exactly that and it seems like we are too busy talking about how bad a Coach Coughlin is.
  3. Speaking of the Giants, how does a man skip training camp and get named defensive captain, and we wonder why the Giants are where they are. Strahan looked really slow and so did the whole Giants D. They are some b*tches it is not even debatable.
  4. Why would Coughlin ever call Tiki Barber, unless it was to cuss him out. Or tell him before you met me you were just a fumbler(see Ahman Green).
  5. Randy Moss was supposed to have lost a step.....................................
  6. T.O. supposed to not be able to catch..............that must not have been him last night.
  7. I thought no one could run on the Jags D and Garrard was going to torch the Titans.
  8. Atlanta was supposed to rally and win that first game and put all the distractions behind them, well Harrinton did throw two TDs passes, they were just to the other team(pick 6).
  9. McNabb looks sharp and the Eagles are ready to soar, well they are still good but McNabb looks hurt to me.

My take on Lance Briggs(More stupid questions)
Aug 30, 2007 | 8:45AM | report this

After seeing his orchestrated response to reporters about the events that transpired last weekend, I came to the conclusion that it was almost brilliant. I mean come on, he bout a new lambourghini, after all this complaining about his contract all summer. Then he probably was out partying and decided to see how fast he could go. Partying = drinking, and drinking + a wreck = police = breathilyzer = DUI = possible suspension by everybody's favorite commish.

Instead he avoided some of that by bookin( running), and calling a tow truck.  He blew it though, by calling the police and reporting it stolen. Instead of just taking the hit financially( car looked totaled), he tried to get over on his insurance company by reporting it stolen. Here is where he could have got into a lot of troble but also drew a bunch of unnecessary attention. The average fan probably has turned on him and this also could affect his free agency next year.

So in conclusion, Briggs probably did panic after the accident but his reasons are murky. His actions later showed me that he was thinking, but he does play linebacker, so he had some mental breakdowns. Thanks to this climate that Goodell has created, we sit and wait, and look to the league office for his punishment.

My take on Vick (might be some stupid questions)
Aug 23, 2007 | 7:25AM | report this

As I scroll across the numerous posts about  Vick and dogs, and how he should be banned for life, and how the NAACP is wrong and how hunting is not like dog fighting, I come up with a couple of questions that I need answered honestly. Now some of this reminds me of a sports talk radio show that I listen to every morning in the DC area. On the show,  they have a segment that is called, " this may be a stupid question but.....". I have a couple saved up for this whole situation and would like the blogging community to attempt to answer them for me.

  1. Do any white people actually own pit bulls? I wasn't aware that any did or do due to their aggresive nature toward other dogs and the white people I know have numerous pets. They are like "Lay's" you can't just have one. Disclaimer : This in no way is an insult or a generalization, I am only going by my co-workers and friends.
  2.  What happened to natural selection and how does hunting anything other than pidgeons, quail, and insects helpful to the ecosystem? Is it me or is this just a way hunters have found to go tract an animal in its natural habitat and kill it for sport. I am not attacking hunters (because they might shoot me) but if someone equates dog fighting to hunting  TELL THE TRUTH, hunting for sport is widely accepted as a "manly, American" thing to do . Dog fighting is widely accepted as a "di####able, barbaric/Barbarian" thing to do.
  3. What the #### does rap have anything to do with dog fighting? I have heard a lot of things discussed in rap music but never dog fighting, DMX is the only one i can remember that even mentioned dogs/pit bulls, and he has a ####ing tattoo of his dog Boomer's face, that doesn't sound like dog fighting to me. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://s.y
    ottamusic.com/i/afhC.5dZu&imgrefurl=http://www.yot

    26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN
  4. The NAACP is only commenting on this case for publicity just like PETA so  why are people getting so bent out of shape? Both of these organizations have little credibility with the majority for different reasons. Problem is that when there is a case that need to be addressed, both organizations can get media attention but neither can achieve more than that.
  5. I know the media doesn't tell us everything but why isn't there a paper trail? I mean if he spent all this money on dog fighting supplies and stuff where are his receipts from Petco, etc.....
  6. How is it that no teammate, former teammate has been implicated or knew about any of this?   I know Vick thought he was the man and rarely hung out at the complex, that has been well documented but as the QB, he didn't hang out with any of those guys close enough for them to know that he was into this ####?

Giant Babies
Aug 01, 2007 | 9:39AM | report this

I have to admit as a Cowboys fan, there rest a little bias in my soul when I say this but that has never stopped me before. Tiki Barber and Michael Strahan have been the face of the Giants for the last 7 years yet each would be going into their 11th season together. While both players were slow to get the hang of this NFL game, they were top players at their respective positions. Yet for all the raving about how great guys they are and class acts, they made one super bowl (got crushed) and ran  a QB and coach out of town yet are still the same heartless G-men.

I always feel like no one is ever blameless but to take the logic of dictator Goodell,  there are some things that are constant, and these two guys fit the bill. Bad leadership can make any team fail and I think this is what happened in most of the Giants late season swoons. Any one who thinks that Tiki's announcement to retire midseason didn't affect the team must also think that the U.S. governement had every intention of honoring the treaties they made with the Native Americans. As talented as the Giants have been over the last ten years, they have made the playoffs 5 of those years and lost in the first rd 4 of those years that they qualified for the post season.  Two of those seasons they had eleven wins and the other two they limped in the playoffs.  I will examine two incidents that showed me what kind of leaders these two guys were and the flaws in each incident.

Tiki Barber is a well polished guy, I don't like his type, but his talent is undeniable. His questionable leadership is well documented.  Tiki was a fumbler, you can ask most defenders pre-2003 Tiki would "lay the rock down." Fassel facilitated this problem by throwing the ball more, and taking the emphasis of the offense off of him. Kerry Collins threw more so Tiki wouldn't fumble so much. In comes Coughlin after the G-spots basically quit on the season in 2003. His first task was to address Tiki's fumblitis.   Tiki had fumbled nine times each in the years of 2000, 2002, and 2003. He only fumbled 8 times in 2001, but he also only played in 14 games. He fumbled a total of nine times in the next three under Coughlin, and talks abou Coughlin like he is the worst coach in the league. Tiki, you would still be a fumbler and not even sniffing the Hall of fame if it wasn't for this guy's coaching style, that you dislike. http://pacifistviking.blogspot.com/2007/07/tiki-b
arber-didnt-like-that-tom.html

I would also like to mention the "slap in the face" comment after the G-spots were humiliated by Jacksonville on Monday night football, if T. O. would have said something like that we would have been talking about how selfish he was. Tiki also openly bashed his teamate and friend  Strahan's holdout in 2002.

Michael Strahan has always been outspoken and injured. Be it a foot, ankle, Knee, elbow, or his head (which must have been injured to sign the pre-nup that he did). His attacks on that female reporter or Plaxico Burress were classless. For a man who was basically given that sack record, he should be a little more gracious. Now comes his mulling retirement, I guess part of Farve's DNA was imprinted in him when Farve gave him that sack. I say retire like your buddy Tiki because no one can count on a guy who has lost his desire to play( see 2006 Giants).

Is it the locks?
Jun 27, 2007 | 7:45AM | report this

Like most other bloggers around the country, I listen to talk radio and have strong opinions on most topics. I don't like golf, nascar, or UFC or any of that Billy Blanks/ Jean-Claude Van Dam mess. I hear the most ridiculous arguement for proof of the guilt of Pacman, Chris Henry, Vick, and Tank Johnson. The host claims that because  three of the former cut their hair and basically because lawyers usually tell their clients to do so they are guilty of something. All except Vick had (dred)locks which is a coincidence since it is a popular hair style for young (black) adults. Look around the league and with the constant influx of young talent, the number of guys with these alternate hair styles has increased . I think eventually the majority( you know what I mean) will become desensitized to the hair styles but there is a stigma placed with it

Take for example, Cedric Benson,  talented running back from Midland, Tx, anyone who is from Texas or has ever been to Midland should put that into perspective, how he was treated during the 2005 draft.  You have to look at Ricky Williams and his career at Texas. Williams is the best RB ever to play at Texas, yeah I know Earl Campbell, he is in the NFL hall of fame and Rick is in the hall of shame, but in college and spurts in the NFL, Williams was great.  He was the idol of many boys growing up in Texas that wanted to go to the University of Texas, and play running back and be as successful as he was. Benson was one of those kids. People looked at him and assumed that since he had locks and played for Texas that he was another Ricky, which was unfair and actually hurt his draft stock with Miami, who had the second pick in the draft. Funny thing is that a guy on the University of Texas team with locks has been drafted every year since.

I guess you can call it the "hair" card but from this guy, who was on that four letter network's radio station last weekend, it obviously means something. Not everyone with dreads is for the "cause", or a Marley so don't get caught up in appearance. So because these guy's cut their hair it might mean they have lice or something, it does not mean they are guilty as some of you might conclude.  You all can follow Roger Goodell/ Lil' Bush  into war all you want to but please do not come out like the senators are against him now when you were down with that pompous fame seeker known as the NFL comissioner.

East Coast -West Coast beef returns
Jun 15, 2007 | 12:01PM | report this

Many people outside of listeners of rap music, remember this term being used frequently in the late 1990's. It was used to describe the fued  between two rappers (2pac and Biggie)that spread throughout the country. I would like to compare two men whose distinctive styles have spread throughout the NFL. Bill Parcells and Bill Walsh impacted the NFL in ways that will be seen for years to come, especially with their offspring. My problem is that like 2Pac, Bill Walsh is west coast affiliated and his influence has been ####ized. Everywhere you go you hear that this team is installing the "west coast offense", and my question to you is what does that mean?

This maybe one interpretation, but when you see teams that are supposed to be running this offense, that appartly takes 4 yrs to learn( Steve Young, also know as the man with the largest Brady Quinn man crush, said this nonsense), it is hardly recognizable. From the two yard passes Rich Gannon used to throw to the deep balls by Farve, they all have been described as the west coast offense. The new flavor of the month is the spread offense but unlike the west coast offense, this is recognizable. While I understand the need to curtail the offense to abilities of players, it also seems like basic principles are abandoned. I think mainly, I am tired of people acting like the west coast offense will automatically lead to offensive production and continuity.

Suggestions for the summer
Jun 12, 2007 | 8:37AM | report this

For those sports fans who concentrate mainly on football( american) and basketball, thw summer is terribly boring. With the Finals having already been decided, and the NBA draft in June, many fans are bored out of their minds for a full month and a half.  Well I have a couple of suggestions for my fellow 2-sport fans.

  1. Try to get into a new sport- I know you have tried to get into baseball, because everyone always tells you how great it is, but you still think that like the NBA, it ain't snit until the playoffs. I mean watch Tennis( I prefer women's), golf, nascar( I know, but give it a try), track and field(Olympics are coming up), maybe even Arena football or NFL Europa( or whatever they want to call it in the future).
  2. Bar-B- Que- Yeah I am from Texas and this is what we do,  but hell with the technology they have now anyone can grill. Use propane for those impatient, unexperienced, health crazed individuals, while I will continue to let off carcinogens with my charcoal and wood chips. People cook anything on the grill and you can too. From vegetarians to super carnivores( eat all kinds of meats from goat to ostrich), you can have a great family get together and make some relatives who you can only stand about once a year feel welcome. make sure after the standard "We should do this more often", you say " yeah, we'll see" instead of just " yeah". People will hold you accountable for the just "yeah" response.
  3. Play sports for yourself- Whew, exercise is good for you, but remember pool, bowling, poker, arm wrestling, and dominoes are sports according to the four letter network.
  4. Go to the movies- Don't anticipate seeing Oscar winners, but that is exactly my point. Everything comes out in the summer, if you know what I mean so, enjoy your movie and your bird watching too.
