The two things that made the Ohio State v. Michigan, game special for generations of fans.

The rivalry remains, but it isn't the same. It never can be.

These two built the game, generations that follow can only wonder what it was like. I'm glad I was there to see it.

Classy post.

Now where's the other post that shows Coach Hayes smacking that guy from the sidelines?

I know that it has already been said before, but this was classy. Even though we rarely get along with Ohio, they showed true character when they praised Bo. A true rivalry extends respect for the other team even through all of the contention.

Rev,
I found it, but I left it out. He did that because of what the kid said. That doesn't make it right, but it showed how concerned Hayes was with respect. His reaction was entirely wrong, but in knowing him, expected. I was sad that he lost his temper like that. I expected to see him die on the field during the Michigan game, not like it happened...

Tiger,
I'm not suggesting that either team is the best ever, nor am I suggesting they are the best coaches ever. I am rcognizing the respect each team has for the other in spite of that rivalry, and the tradition rich history they allowed fans and players to be part of during their time. It's not the same now that they are gone

You know how to get a comment from me.

Great post Dank. The period when Woody and Bo strolled the sidelines and created the rivalry, is a bye-gone era. I was a kid during the Ten Year War, but it is what planted my Buckeye roots.

I disagree that the rivalry means less today. The Game still serves as a defacto comnference championship almost every year, and at least in Columbus, it takes over the town for a week.
I understand that you are referring to the qualities that Woody and Bo brought into the rivalry, and that can not be duplicated. However, the players and fans at both schools live and die each year with The Game. Unless you are a die-hard fan of either team, you probably won't get it.

To the #### that said that Woody and Bo were just "good" coaches......

Forget it, you aren't worth the print.

Go Bucks!!!! Beat Blue!!!!

Winning this game means everything to all involved. These two teams do not like eachother one bit. However, the respect is strong and mutual. When I pass a fan of TTUN on the street, we may talk a little smack, but most of the time, we merely exchange a look that says "We do not like eachother's garb, but we wouldn't be part of any other rivalry if our lives depended on it."

In the first video, the person speaking in the middle of the clip uses the word antidote. One would think that a University higher up would know the difference between anecdote and antidote. Woody Hayes has many anecdotes about games against Bo. If Woody and Bo had antidotes, well, they'd still be alive I guess.

I can't believe the immature attitudes of some posters. Anyone who knows anything about Woody and Bo (who was created by Woody in his own image)knows that these were two extraordinary men. Woody's players loved him to a man. Every man, no matter how great, has made mistakes in his life. We should remember the greatness, rather than the errors. Woody and Bo brought a passion to the game. Even George Patton had his detractors. It is the Woody's, Bo', Bear's, Paterno's that have defined college football. The traditions established by the Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame (pre-Weiss), Alabama, etc will live forever.

swamp,
Yeah I'm sure it's still a big game. I can't even put in words the difference now compared to then.

pete,
thanks for the kind words. Like I said to swamp, the game is still big, it just has a different "feel" now

dhbvino,
Yeah the traditions will last longer than us, and no coach will ever be universally supported. Closest I have ever seen to that is Tom Osborne, and even he had/has detractors.
