The reason I ask this is because a lot of posters on this very site seem to be making assumptions that Terrelle Pryor craves the spotlight when everything that I have seen or read seems to be to the contrary.
I am sure that most of you know the saga so I will spare you most of the details. But, in case you just got back from some survivor camp in Idaho, this lauded high school recruit continues to delay deciding just which college football program is best for him.
The latest news is that he is putting off his decision until he visits Penn State and Oregon. But, as a star on the Jeanette, PA, basketball team he has been busy with playoff games. For this reason, he has recently been quoted as saying that he will probably wait until after basketball season is over to make his official visits. If his team does well in the state tournament as expected we are looking at mid-March before he even starts his visits.
Ultimately, when the time comes to make his decision it will be one of the biggest of his life. Ever. He owes it to himself to make the right one. And if the rules say that he has until April 1st, why should he not take his time? National Signing Day is just the FIRST day of a 56 day window that recruits have to sign. Just because most recruits tend to sign this day does not mean that TP is delaying for the attention or even just to be different. Maybe he just does not know.
From what I have read he had his mind made up but his dad is giving him pressure to check out PSU. What kid who loves his father would not follow his advice? And maybe his dad is right. There is no harm in finding out since he has eight weeks.
And for those of you who would compare his decision to delay choosing a college with his decision making on the field: We would all do well if we stuck to comparing apples to apples. A decision made on the football field (other than very, very, very few of them) are not significantly life altering anywhere near to the extent that choosing a football program could be. Second, with the yardage this guy has put up in high school I think it is safe to say that he has shown that he can make good decisions on the field.
But, let me take a stab at comparing the two, if only to strengthen my point. If a QB has (let's say) 4 seconds in the pocket to throw a pass, why should he throw the pass after 1 second if he feels that it might be a bad idea? Why rush it if you don't have to?
To me, his decision to delay shows that he has the maturity not to give in to all of the derision and the questioning and the accusations and make sure that he is doing what is best.
So do not assume the worst about this kid just because you are ready for this story to have an ending. Maybe his intentions are noble. Maybe he is still deciding DESPITE the attention rather than FOR the attention.
You are an apologist for an egocentgric kid who has love playing major universities for fools. If he is so dedicated then why didn't he take his formal trip to PSU, instead of staying with his fat friend in the "Brew Crew" at OSU on Saturday to watch a BB game, he is damaged goods bought at the highest price and is not worthy of either Michigan or Penn State
How do you know he is playing the universities for fools? What has he said or done to give you that impression?
As for the OSU basketball game, that was Sunday. And he had just played in a high school basketball game Saturday afternoon, which doesn't really give him much time for an official visit. And, like I said, what is the rush?
And I am not an apologist for anyone. I am merely presenting another side to the story that many have decided to ignore. I, for one, can admit that I don't know what his intentions are.

I apolgize so the game was Sunday that he sat with his two fat Texas and Fla friends. My point is that he has enjoyed making major universities grovel at the feet of someone who thinks himself bigger and better than what he is, Good yes, great no, he won't see the field as a starter until his junior year. Again I reiterate he is not worthy of either Penn State or Michigan.
CliffO
In a word no he is not worthy. And as for lighting anybody up you and sweater vest and all your boosters who support the 2nd largest football player payroll in the State OmyO behind the Cleveland Browns and just ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals a new day is coming in the Big Ten, OSU won't be able to buy their championships anymore, hell when they come down south here they get their hat and a==es handed tyo them anyway. They are embarrasement in the NCG
\CliffO
Seriously, as Husker said, the kid needs a better nickname than TP.
Other kids are busy playing two sports, have schoolwork and such. I haven't heard of any other top-flight recruits not signing. This guy appears to be in it for the fame #1, and those guys don't make good impressions on or off the field.
The media just wants to break the news on his decision, so the whole thing looks like it is dragging more and more... every time the kid takes a step. It also helps that three Big Ten powers (PSU, Mich, and OSU) are all fighting for him, with Oregon in the mix too. I personally am not hating on him... I actually am impressed that he decided to take a step back and not rush his decision. As a PSU alum, I would love for him to shock the world and choose Penn State... only time will tell, but people should leave the kid alone. Welcome to the community by the way... later -kp
TP - I never even gave it a second thought. That is just me being lazy, I think. Do you think if he becomes a star that announcers will start saying that opposing teams got "TP'd"?
CliffO,
Okay, okay, we get it. You have an unhealthy hatred for OSU and are now projecting those feelings onto both current and possible future recruits.
I don't think he is going to Oregon either mostly because it is so far away from his father.
hoit,
You may have a point but I just don't get that impression from the kid. But I do agree that if he is delaying for the attention that will not be a good thing for the program he chooses.
The media is mostly to blame for the fiasco that is Terrelle Pryor Recruiting Saga. I do hope it will be over soon. But I don't expect him to make a decision just so I can read the sports page without having to see his name.
I didn't think he was doing this for the spotlight until I read that he went to an OSU basketball game with his OL friends. Just sign with OSU so I can surf rivals or scout without seeing his name in the headlines.
I dont know if you have noticed, but its the jilted UM fans that are spewing all the hatred. Now that he has rejected them, suddenly they all think less of his abilities and character. It is they that have weak character. I expect him to start for the Buckeyes next season, and with him at the helm, I look forward to many more years of dominating the wufferines!
It is funny how a recruit's skill level drops in the opinions of fans when they find out that he is not coming to thier favorite program.
I don't expect him to start next year, though, if he goes to Ohio State. He will get some mop up duty but he will have some time to learn the system. Look for him to start his sophomore year.

To RoboBuck I haven't seen one UM fan on here say anything bad about TP. From what I've seen it looks like some fans the the SEC that are saying bad things. If you noticed they made remakes about how Ohio State got there butts kicked again and the NCG. I will also say this about Tp you can't blame him for taking his time this decsion will set him up for life. That being said I hope he doesn't pick Ohio State because he wants to win the big games and it seems to me Ohio State has a hard time doing that lately.
Daddy Fads Im glad u think that TP is doing the right thing wanting to take more visits. But he has gone to a number of PSU football and basketball games. Now he has gone to OSU for another basketball game and I know he went to AnnArbor for one to. He is a great player but he is deffenitly playing with the schools. He is seeing if they will offer him more($$$). I am a Michigan fan and I never wanted Pryor till our new coach told Mallet to get bent. Now we got to take him if we r going to have a chance of winning a single game and from interviews long before now I think he is a punk kid with more talent then brains
If this post really came from TP then this clearly shows what kind of kid he is and that is an immature kid.
Guys, my friend is here and he wants to have a word with you guys,

You are right I should not have been aas venonmous in my emails, I don't dislike OSU, it is I don't respect them and their recruiting methods. Are MI and PSU saints by no means, but it is well known and documented that OSU has always pushed the envelope of what is legal under NCAA standards as it deals with the letter of the law and what they think they can get away with by interpreting the intent of the rules as not applicable to them in their recruiting practices. You are right I live in the South have for over 40 years, have a sister and brother-in-law who did graduate work at OSU so I respect the institution, even down in Fla we fully understand Tressel's recruiting behavior, and last but not least TP is not worthy to go to either PSU or UM/ Thanks for the feedback
CliffO
OSU has struggled with the biggest of games lately but I think they are going to make it over that hump and very soon. Maybe Pryor wants to be the guy to make it happen. Or maybe not. Who knows?
dirtydave35,
While I believe that there are always going to be incidents involving money and college football players, I am not so cynical as to believe that it happens as you are insinuating. I think these kids go to a school and 'opportunities' arrive in which unscrupulous boosters and agents make offers that the kids sometimes take. I do not believe in the 'highest bidder' theory.

That is definitely a less venomous post. Thank you for that. Afterall, we are all just fans talking football.
As for OSU and their recruiting, I lived in C-bus for almost 35 years and never heard of these "well known and documented" recruiting practices that "push the envelope".
I would love to read any credible articles or information you can point me to, however.

DaddyFads: In reference to OSU pushing the envelope, I think the 3 year probation in basketball still in effect has a little bit to do with it. Michigan isn't that much better though with the more severe violation back in the early '90s.
A lot of us here could really care less at this point, TP will go where he deams the best for him. Sure he might be a good fit here but to tell you the truth, with or without we're just fine. We have some good QB's coming in to complement what we already have. This is almost as entertaining as Barry Bonds.
Maurice Clarett comes to mind first, MI has thier own skeletons, with all due respect living in a city does not open the valult of information as to how the coaches and school recruits, and believe me it is usually a a scored player or booster who brings it to light, it is never going to be the local media, ESPECIALLY IN COLUMBUS, hell, they would be rode out on a rail.
CliffO
I didn't realize anybody still cared about Pryor, but maybe that's because it's looking bleak for my wolverines. Getting him would be great, but Michigan will be just fine in the adjustment process without him. We have plenty of QBs on the depth chart. None with his ability, but we've done quite well with QBs with minimal talent. Case in point: JOHN NAVARRE the guy was horrible and we still did well with him. Brian Greise was an average at best QB, and we split a National Championship with Nebraska after an undefeated season. Not getting Pryor is NOT the end of the world.
mofm99- I seriously doubt Terrelle Pryor would visit any fox sports blogs, much less leave an idiotic comment like that. It sounds like something secyodaddy would say. He's been beating that dead horse since mid september.
Robobuck- When are you going to convert to an SEC fan as you promised after the NC game?

Unless you look for a job around Columbus Ohio, that sheepskin from OSU is not worth the paper it is printed on. The next time the U.S. News and World Report comes out with their issue on rating Universities and their respective schools and programs, look where you see MI compared to the programs coming out of OSU, ENUFF said.
CliffO
maddmaxx46- Actually this season is Michigan basketball's first non-sanctioned season since that whole Chris Webber/Fab5/Robert Traylor mess. Finally off probation.

So I take it you didn't care for me defending you..... Okay. No big deal.
About the pic- It's Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura, numbnuts. But while we're on the subject, you mistook the men's prison team for your extensive list of previous gentleman companions. they left you because they wanted "more than a cocktail frank" while recieving.
krjones226: I don't know where you got that information but our first year of eligibility was the 2003-2004 season for NCAA tournament play. This also includes the NIT because we were actually ineligible for that too until that year. During the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons we were kept on probation though.

I recognized Ace Ventura, but you do have to admit the resemblance is striking. As far as you defending me I don't want to found guilty because of an inferior defense attorney, so I'll take somebody from the Michigan Law School, who will give me the proper defense. Thanks anyways.
CliffO
Jim O'Brien broke the rules and was fired for it - and OSU was found in the wrong for firing him even (strange). That is one incident. CliffO suggested that OSU has and has always had questionable recruiting PRACTICES. This insinuates that it is ongoing and regular. You do not defend the ongoing and regular with a couple of incidents. Not to mention that Clarret was not a recruiting issue. He messed up after his first season, was suspended for an entire year and opted not to return.
So, CliffO, not 'nough said. You are basically arguing first that you and everyone else knows about the shady recruiting practices at OSU then when I ask about it you turn around and say no one really knows because they don't broadcast it. So which is it? Everyone knows or no one is allowed to know?
I am through spinning my wheels. Some of you are going to believe the worst of a hated rival despite arguments and evidence to the contrary. All schools have incidents, so don't bother going into it - I know about them. If you are going to make accusations, back them up. If not, keep them to yourself.
Just remember that your school, no matter which one, has had and will continue to have personnel issues from time to time.
CliffO...did your mommy drop you on your head or shove you in a corner when you were little? Your ignorant talk about The Ohio State University is just that...ignorant. And it makes you come off as a jealous, hate-mongering, my-momma-didn't-love-me-enough, obviously blind, sorry excuse for a sports fan. There are a few teams that I don't like, however, you still have to respect them. Jim Tressel is a GREAT coach...and anybody who tries to deny that is just plain STUPID! His accomplishments at Ohio State again speak for themselves. You may not like it, but when you write ignorant posts, then, well,... Wait a minute...how old are you? I'm guessing 15 or younger...at least IQ wise... Haven't you ever been told that you are judged by what you say and how you say it? If you want to be taken seriously on this board then at least try to not sound soooo immature and jealous...if you can
April 1st he will be on someones roster getting picked on just like every other freshman or possibly even more because of the hype. He is going to get scrutinized every second of his life the moment he steps onto a college football field even if it is only the prcatice field for a year or 2. So, let the kid enjoy what remains of the NLOI deadline in glee because it isnt going to last much longer. He is going to be picked and prodded his entire career no matter where he goes. Think Jimmy Clausen without all of the losses!lol My point is that the high profile recruits get mercilessly hammered throughout their careers so why shouldnt he enjoy his last days of amnesty? Obviously I am not one who would be upset about him being in C-Bus with his future protectors at a b-ball game instead of at P-State but I am sure that he will make a trip.
BUCKEYEZZ: I don't think he would get as much scrutinization (is that a word?) if he just would have signed on signing day like everyone else. If he becomes a bust (kinda like Clausen although I'm not giving up on him), he will get it 10x as bad because of the way he milked the spotlight.
Yeah, back in the day you signed on signing day or you were relegated to waiting another year or maybe a JUCO school...this whole, I gotta play B-ball with my team thing is getting old. Does TP really think he is the only D-1 football prospect to be a 2-sport H.S. player? C'mon! There are plenty of 'em. Quit draggin this out!
As for Buckeye transgressions, ever since Mr. SweaterVest came to town, OSU has been under numerous investigations. Tressel was even investigated at Youngstown St! So far there hasnt been any proof of wrongdoing, but OSU does push the envelope and live in those "grey" areas.
My cousins live in Akron, Ohio and about 3 years ago when I was visiting the local paper's Sunday sports section was dedicated to all the problems the football team was having under him. It almost resembled the SEC's all-penal team! Run-in's with the law, or with other students, allegations of cheating, Maurice Clarett, bosters, etc. the list was more than half the page!!!
My point is, "Where there's smoke, there's usually fire."
...Lloyd Carr a few years back told a story on his coaches show after we had lost another football game at OSU...
heres the jist of it.
When Michigan arrived at the stadium, for no apparent reason they were seperated from there gear and it was all searched. Not the nicest, Welcome to C-town greeting (Note: this isnt normal protocal at all.) When Carr asked Tressel during pre-game Hello's if that was normal, Tressel said they had been doing it all year to visitng teams as an extra security precaution.
So Lloyd called up the other Big 10 coaches that had played at OSU that year and asked him if they had been searched too.
They had not.
Ever since them I have seen Tressel as calculating and as cold hearted as Bill Belicheck. The Michigan/OSU rivalry is a clean rivlary with respect for both sides. Doing that sullied it in my mind's eye. If you want the edge in a game that much that you will try to throw the other team off its game by doing that, then you are someone who lives in those grey areas, and who will win at ALL costs...which to me, means violations are not entirely out of the question.
You all make me laugh, but we all know that OSU sukz and their coach is the top cheapskate in the rivalry..and I am gettin sick of hearing about the sweater-vested F4IRY and his criminals that play football. We need to beat them this year at all costs, but more importantly we need to get Terrelle Pryor. We have no other options, and he is a perfect fit for the style Coach Rod is bringing us.
Only a few other teams in the Big Ten use it, and it's time that we break out of the mold we have used forever and change things up to bring back some dignity to our team. We saved the season last year by beating Florida but that will be lost in memory if we can't pull out a win against those criminals from the south.
If you are reading this TP, ignore the ignorant people from Michigan, they are just upset that we haven't settled a decision on a new QB yet..but not only do we need you, we would love to see you suit up and run around those slow linebackers and secondary the sweater vest has pulled from prison.
TP TAKEING HIS TIME TO MAKE A DECISION IN NOTHING LESS THAN BRELIANT. TP IS SITTING BACK WAITING FOR THE RIGHT THING, AND HE WILL STRIKE. TP IS AN AWESOME ATHLETE,(I'VE WATCHED HIM PLAY). NO MATTER WHERE HE DECIDES TO GO, HE WILL BE A THREAT TO ANY TEAM THAT THEY PLAY, THIS I GARANTEE. I LOOK FOR TP TO BE A WOLVERINE NEXT SEASON. IT IS HIS TYPE OF OFFENSE, AND THE JOB OF LEADING THAT OFFENCE IS ALL BUT HIS IF HE WANTS IT. WE'LL SEE. A COUPLE WEEKS YET, AND MAYBE THEN EVERYONE CAN PICK ANOTHER TOPIC TO ARGUE ABOUT.
I am a life-long fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes but have only been participating on message boards for a short while.
I was born and raised in C-bus and only recently moved to the outskirts of St Louis, MO.
