Ranking the NFL Uniforms
Sep 13, 2007 | 6:58PM | report this

Busy is bad, simple and traditional good.  Hate the black trim.  Here goes...

1. Colts…simple, traditional.

2. Giants…great stripes on pants.

3. Steelers…hard to pull off a weird number font, but Pittsburgh does.  Nice throwbacks this year.

4. Chiefs…classic look designed by owner Lamar Hunt.

5. Browns…returned to their classic simplicity.

6. Raiders…team has gone downhill, but the great unis remain.

7. Cowboys…great when they mix in the white helmet throwbacks.

8. Bears…love the stripes.

9. Jets…traditional uni gets points off for green facemasks.

10. Saints…the striped throwbacks are great.

11. Packers…get rid of those collar stripes!

12. Rams…great helmets.

13. Patriots…love the striped throwbacks best.

14. Bucs…unique color combos.

15. Bengals…great helmets.  The unis grow on you.

16. Seahawks…love the blue, but the pants are ugly.

17. Dolphins…black trim wrecks the uni.

18. Cardinals…great helmets, and the new unis aren’t bad.

19. Lions…great logo and blue/grey colors…wrecked by black trim.

20. Chargers…love the white helmets and powder blue jerseys, but number font and ugly new bolts wreck the uni makeover.

21. Titans…nice colors go well with the white helmet.

22. Panthers…weird stripes on pants and helmet.

23. 49ers…great throwbacks, but the new unis have too much trim.

24. Ravens…like the colors and logos.

25. Eagles…kinda plain…the black trim isn’t needed.  Interesting throwbacks!

26. Broncos…busy stripes, but the look is worse on college teams.  OK helmets.

27. Redskins…wonderful throwbacks.  They started the return of the white on white look.

28. Jaguars…hate it when they wear black jerseys, pants, socks, and shoes together.  Need stripes!

29. Bills…great throwbacks, and nice blue shoulders on the white jersey.  Too many stripes!

30. Texans…dull uni for a new team.  OK helmets.

31. Vikings…uni redo disaster.

32. Falcons…way too busy.  Ugly numbers.  But nice helmets.  Need a redo to escape the Vick era!

HEY! I kind of like the Vikings new uniforms! Not alot changed there except some new accents. Of course I'm a Vikings fan, lol. My most hated uniform would have to be the Seahawks (not much on teal blue or green) and one of my favorites would be the Raiders (hard to beat the silver and black).

The Browns have the worst uniform in the NFL. No one is close. Brown and orange just scream, "Hi, I wear brown clothing, like my idol, the UPS guy."

Teal has to GO on any uniform.

The Vikings uni redo isn't pretty and is a clone of the ugly UMiami style. Still, I have one, because I have to as a fan. (#22 Paul Krause-Hall of Fame.)

The real discussion is Team Logos.
There are some total losers out there, like the Baltimore Ravens.
Let's force teams to rename themselves to something that makes sense. E.A.Poe isn't a reason to name your team and create a soccer uniform logo!

Ahhhh! Ok, the meds are taking over. Ahhh!

Suomi, you still drinking and blogging?
The email you sent me on FOX had just as many misspelled words and grammar errors as your poorly written blog.
Go to bed. You have a spelling test in 6th grade tomorrow.

Ooo, cowboys should be down around #35. Okay, that's just me.

The Jets have green facemasks? Agreed. That'll knock 'em down a few spots.

The Niners throwback Monday night sure were sweet, weren't they. It was like watching the old team.

I kind of like the Redskins and Bills' unis. Still traditional-looking.

Agreed about the Falcons. A sub-par uni for the big-time.

Agreed with every other one I didn't mention.

Thanks, Ricko. The Raiders unis are sweet. I might've been hard on the Vikings, but the classic unis worn when Paul Krause played were great. The Vikings actually wore purple pants back in 1961...their first year. Looked pretty good.

At least the Panthers only use teal as a trim color...most of the time.

why do u hate the chargers new uniforms? i think it looks better than the old one. and the dolphins trim is dark blue, not black. it may look black at times. cincy has great uniforms and the throwback is decent as well. i liked the rams previous uniform better than the new when it was yellow instead of gold, and the jets previous uniform was better than todays. the cheifs should take the arrowhead off and keep the kc and have kc in white and have black trim. the steelers have some decent throwbacks and so do the packers.

Nice ideas, CM. The bolts on the pants don't look as good...there aren't as many 'squiggles'. Same with the ones on the shoulders, which aren't as high on the shoulders as they should be...they appear to be falling off down the sleeves! last year's Chargers powder blue throwbacks featured nice standard numbers. The white helmet had a grey facemask. Much better than this year's navy mask and cheezy numbers. But the Bolts look better than most teams. I don't think the Chiefs will ever change.

San Diego should stick to their powder blue uniforms!

I don't like Pittsburgh's "weird number font." The old varsity block lettering was much tougher a more blue-collar-looking.

Well I have to agree with you about the Redskins! Gee, I wonder why, LOL. I also think the Redskins have the most beautiful helmet in the league. The way it shines sets it off!

Oh and I am not sure if anyone knows this, but the emblem change on the helmet for the Skins that came along in 1970, was due to a Chief from somewhere in the middle of the country, I think it was Iowa, actually coming to the Redskins and saying that Indians wanted a Indian Chief on the helmet instead of just the R, because it represented honor and a great warrior! He helped them design it, and what a fantastic job he did!

Just a little FYI

Very interseting post. Very different. Keep up the good work, and don't listen to people like suomi87, they are here just to shoot down the blogs. The fact that this is a post about jerseys is what sets you apart from everyone else. Keep it up!

Spoke negative about #11 ranked Gbay, and positive about the Ravens. So how come Ravens only at #24?

Rankings are pretty much dead on, cept the vikings should have been a bit higher... the only other one is the Giants... I liked the other jersey's better... the new ones are too "cute"

the other thing... teams should just stay put and quit changing... makes it too hard to keep up...

btw... the lions don't seem to have ever changed their uniforms with the minor exception of adding the lion to their helmet...

For one year the Skins wore a similar logo with a simple "R" in the circle instead of the chief. They're going to wear those helmets this season, soon.

I loved the Lions unis in the 60s and 70s, before they started adding trim. No white trim, just blue jerseys with grey numbers and stripes. Great Lion...they'd be tops without all the black and white trim.

I didn't let that loser bother me. Sorry I don't have more time to post more!

Hometown bias aside, i love the Bears white jerseys. They are beautiful. Nevertheless, the nicest unis belong to the Pats.

Pats...nice blue and grey. Unis look better when you win. Still love the throwbacks.

Browns...I'm old school, so I like the Brownees. The grey masks complete the package, but what happened to the white socks?

Whoever came up with this is a complete and utter obtuse ####. It's obvious that someone is a Colts fan, because the Colts uniforms look like bland High School uniforms. The Texans uni's however have MEANING behind them. Red White and Blue not only the colors of the American flag, but also the colors of the Texas flag. Bet the Colts can't say that about theirs. You're an ####. Maybe you need to wait for your testicles to descend.
