Ranking the MLB Uniforms
Sep 13, 2007 | 7:09PM | report this

I like most baseball unis these days, though some are still better than others...

1. Giants…classic off-white unis.

2. Cardinals…timeless, great stirrups.

3. Red Sox…whatever happened to the striped stirrups?

4. Tigers…love the huge names on the back.

5. Yankees…timeless.

6. Braves…could be better with a few traditional tweaks: striped stirrups, off-white uni, number on front, big red names, dark tomahawk.

7. Pirates…classic look, except for the red vests.

8. Athletics…simple & traditional, but the team looks sloppy.

9. Phillies…simple and sweet.

10. Dodgers…several tweaks have downgraded a classic look. “LA” patch, etc.

11. Cubs…good, but see the Dodgers. Bring back the cubbie bear.

12. Orioles…great look, but it could be better.  “Baltimore” for starters.

13. Royals…simple.  Great to get rid of the black trim.

14. Mets…need to ditch all the black.

15. Astros…nice shade of red.

16. Mariners…they’ve kept a consistent look over the years.

17. Rangers…simple and clean.  I like the flag patch on the sleeve.

18. Reds…hate the new number font.  They did get rid of most of the black trim.

19. Padres…I like those sand road unis, and the blue is sweet.

20. White Sox…time for a change!  Bring back a past classic: blue or red.

21. Angels…simple but bland.  Red numbers on red jersey doesn’t work.

22. Indians…doesn’t stand out.  Nice caps don’t match the navy jerseys.

23. Blue Jays…nice colors.  Unis keep changing, but none stand out.

24. Devil Rays…I like the colors and logos, but the dark sleeves are weird.

25. Brewers…simple but bland.  Great throwbacks should be worn all the time.

26. Marlins…Ok uni, but leave the pinstripes to the Yanks.

27. Twins…same ugly unis for 20 years!

28. Rockies…too much black, weird “vests.”

29. Diamondbacks…nice shade of red, but the team name in front doesn’t look good.

30. Nationals…nice caps, ugly logo and numbers.

I put the Twins in the Top Ten.
It qualifies as a classic look, just like the rest near the top.

Push the Devil Rays down, to 29. You hit the worst. Man, that W logo is totally ####. Leave the bad cursive for 4th graders.

I hope the White Sox never change their current uniforms. They're perfect just the way they are. Good guys wear black!

I agree with husker too. The Twins' uniforms are fine. I like the underlined "win" in the word "Twins" on the front.

A lot of the uniforms I hate are the ones that are too "modernized," such as the Padres, Blue Jays and Astros. All these teams had better uniforms back in the day.

I love the Yankees...ARod, Jeter, Clemens, Giambi, Damon, Matsui, Posada, Torre...more than Boston, for sure.

The Twins should return to the "TC" logo. Mauer gets it, wearing the retro helmet when he catches.

Uni modernization hasn't messed up baseball as much as football. Sure, I'll take those old mustard Padre unis, or the Astros peach melbas (or the shooting star that Joe Morgan wore!).

There's been a lot of discussion here locally on the D-backs new unis. I don't care for them much, but like anything else, they kind of grow on you after awhile. I don't like the long pants that many players wear nowadays, though. I guess I'm a throwback, but they look a little sloppy.

Just don't bring back the old White Sox uniforms with the shorts. That ensemble has to go down as one of the worst in baseball history.

I'm torn about pants. The A's look the sloppiest with their long, baggy pants. You can't see the yellow socks and green stirrups (not that anyone's wearing them). Curtis G looks great in his baggy Tigers uni, but the Nats second-baseman looks sloppy in his baggy shirt.

ChiSox: I didn't have the shorts in mind. Richie Allen wore a sharp red trimmed uni, and before him there was a sharp blue number.

How can the Yankee pinstripes not be number one. They were the first team to introduce the pinstripes concept. The yankee uniforms have been virtually unchanged for 100 years. You want tradition, a sign of excellence and a real classic winner... its yankees all the way baby

DMurphy, without the "LA" on the sleeve, the Dodgers would be in the top 3. The Yankees' pinstripes are classic and they SHOULD be the only team allowed to wear pinstripes. I agree with Yankeehawk, the Yankees unis are #1.

Yankeehawk, HUGE win for the Yanks. I hear crickets chirping in Red Sox Nation.

The Yankees were not the first team to introduce pinstripes. I can't recall who it was offhand, but I can tell you it wasn't them.

I'm not sure why people always make a big deal about the White Sox' shorts. They only wore them for one game.

Hey jon... just as I start writting Boston demise... the Yanks had to go and blow it today... figures...

Ian, I will look up the several sources, but the yankees are the first team to put pinstripes on their uniforms...

as for the ugliest... the padres back in the 70's... brown and yellow... good lord what where they thinkin???

I love those Yankee pinstripes as well. No other team looks as good in them. Even my Braves copied them back in 69 - 70...becasue they wanted to be 'the Yankees of the South'. The White Sox did look good in red pinstripes.

Nats are not at the bottom. Pretzel logo is cool throw back and team logo and graphic represents appropriate Federal look. One of the best "new" uniforms.
I agree on no black for Mets. And the orange button on so-called throwback 69caps is incorrect.
Bosox need to go back to blue and white stripped stockings like in Yaz years

I do love those Nats caps, both the home red and road navy. As a kid I had some baseball cards of Senators, and I loved it then. When they were still the Expos I got a Blue Marlin Walter Johnson era Nationals cap. Dawg, I'll have to take your word on all that Federal stuff. Can't wait for the new DC park to open...I'll have to make another pilgramage.

BoSox stirrups...agree on the stripes (same with the Braves). You know your stuff! You must read Uni Watch.

Murphy... the Braves wanting to be the Yankees of the South left Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson, Robert E Lee, and JEB Stuart turning over in their entombed greys.
