CPA says…Ken Rosenthal wrote a column discussing the possibility of Glavine returning to Atlanta… even at a discounted $8MM a year, I don’t see how they could afford him – I ran my numbers and I came up with a current payroll of around $76MM without Giles and Ramirez, but I also straight-lined all of the back-end loaded deals (Hudson) and amortized all of the signing bonuses… I think Glavine could help you next season, but I think you sign him at the expense of Kyle Davies development – though I am not convinced Davies is going to be a quality starter…
My reply…I’m not that crazy about Davies…Glavine would be expensive. I’ll have to stay with Schuerholz and Cox wanting to go out with a ####.
Should they sign Glavine, they'd surely trade Ramirez, Hudson, Giles, and/or Davies to clear salary/roster space for a LF or 2B.
Hudson will be around next year. They will ride him out. I'm sure he will finally have that breakout season that Atlanta has been waiting for. Kind of like how Hampton didn't really have a great season when he first came. I like the idea of Hudson, Glavine, Smoltz and Hampton. I think pitching could be king again in Atlanta.
