Ok, I'm a die hard Lions fan who has watched them 20 years. I've seen lows, I've seen very lows, and I've seen the 2008 season so far which is the lowest of the low. I know pain and suffering. I don't on the other hand start spouting off about how the Lions are back, how they are going to the Super Bowl, or other such nonsense, especially after 3 weeks of football. I know better. Look at last year, 6-2 to start the year!!! Hell yes, the Lions are improved! Wait....1-7 in the last 8 weeks? Really? Oh my God they are still the Lions. I knew that Detroit had the ability to ruin a good thing, they just had to get back to the Lions football of old. So when I see fans of teams like the Niners, Raiders, and Bucs start spewing the same old #### when their team is 2 and 1 it drives me crazy. If I have to see one more 49ers fan post "The Gold Rush is back baby!" one more time I might hit my computer.
Seriously. The Niners have won 2 games so far. Whoop de freakin do. Lets see here. You beat the Seahawks, who have guys who weren't drafted for pee-wee football for WRs, and the Lions, who can't tackle my grandma even if you took away her walker. Real impressive. So after beating the Rams am I going to have to listen to how awesome San Fransico is and how they are destined for the Super Bowl? The 49ers have started out 2-1 after three weeks twice in the past 5 seasons and still managed to pull off an underwhelming 0-5 winning season record. Look at last season. After pulling off a 2-1 record after three weeks they managed to put together an amazing 8 losses in a row. Even the Lions didn't manage to lose 8 weeks IN A ROW. In the past five seasons the 49ers are an amazing 25-55. Which is one less win the than Lions in that same time frame. Kinda funny when you think about it, since everyone on earth labels Detroit the worst football team in the league. Now I am in no way saying the Lions are better than the 49ers, because let's face it, they aren't. I'm just saying that blind faith in a team is kind of stupid, and to cover every blog posted with "Gold Rush" comments isn't really needed. I kinda figured out you were a fan by the name Niners4ever. So please let it go. Come tell me I'm wrong when they are still over .500 at the end of the year.
The Raiders. Oh the Raiders and their fans. Oh my god. Seriously I get it. You're a huge fan, the Raiders are your life. Super. Please stop telling everyone on earth. The Raiders are 19-61 in the past five years. I know there is history here, and that the Raiders were one of the Best teams ever, but please. Let it go. They now dwell in the same realm as the Lions, 49ers, Texans, Cardinals, and Chiefs. Bottom dwellers. Scum of the NFL. I feel your pain. Finally, Bucs fans. SHUT UP ALREADY. I cannot stand when Bucs fans run around here telling everyone that they are the team to beat, that the NFC South is all wrapped up, that there is no way they aren't making the playoffs. You beat Atlanta and Chicago. Oh and lost to the Saints. That's talent. Over the past 5 years the Bucs are 36-44. That is not exactly an amazing feat when one considers the fact that they won the Super Bowl in 02. The next 5 weeks are going to be rough with the Bucs going 1-4. And that's if they beat Seattle. So please Bucs fans, stop the flag waving. We get it.
Please don't take offence to this if you are someone who has a screen name based on one of these teams. My own name is in reference to the Lions. I am all for showing support for your team and by God if you are a NinersFan4Life, that is fantastic. But there is a difference to supporting your team and posting repeated comments about how super, awesome, great, Godlike, whatever your team is. If they are that great post a blog about it, scream it off the rooftops, but don't go into a blog about two different teams, or another totally unrelated subject just to comment about your personal favorite.
I would like to point out that there are plenty of fans out there for the Chiefs, the Dolphins, the Rams, and other such horrible teams, but they don't go around pounding the we used to be great drum like the fans I listed here. Now please go ahead Niners fans, Bucs fans, and Raiders fans tell me how stupid I am, and how my opinion is the worst one ever put down in words. gambitxxx, did you know JTO has the 4th highest passer rating in the league? He is a Martz quarterback, he will be a good starter in this league. Also, have you ever heard of Patrick Willis? How about Nate Clements or Walt Harris, maybe Justin Smith?
I do not think the 49ers are going to win the superbowl, I do believe that they will make the playoffs. I'm just happy this team is legitimate after Hostler last year.

As for Clements he's an overhyped CB who is over paid. Didn't like him in Buffalo and sure don't like him now. Walt Harris is ok but that's it and same goes for Smith. Gore is the best player you have and the only real beast outside Willis. Sorry but that's just my opinion.
I am a huge 49er fan, but I am not jumping for joy after this 2-1 start. We have bright spots to build off of, and we could content in 2 years IF things come to fruition. Willis is a dominant linebacker and is the team leader on the niners defense. The offense has Gore, but we need a legitimate #1 receiver, Vernon Davis needs to put his money where his mouth is, and we need a quarterback. JTO has been with so many teams for many reasons... so lets hope this isn't a fluke. But I am excited that this offense is finally moving and giving our defense a rest. Lets hope they keep winning and proving that they CAN be a contender.
Sounds like sour grapes to me. Im not going to say the niners are going all the way; however I am very interested to see how the Red and Gold play vs. NO then NE and then Philly. If they come through 4-2 which I believe is POSSIBLE, should get interesting. A realistic expectation would be 3-3, but thats why they play the games. 5-1 and even I will be talking smack :)

This team has a very good offense and our defense is our strong suit. The niners are definitely playoff contenders. I am almost sure that they are taking back the NFC west crown. And as for our players we have more than Gore and Willis. How, exactly, do you think teams improve? Do they draft a Peyton Manning and then automatically win 12 games? No, they start by beating teams they "should" beat, and then aspire to beat the ones they shouldn't. Don't begrudge us niner fans for celebrating seeing our team emerge from the NFL cellar. This team looks so much better than it has the past 5 years, why shouldn't we get excited? We beat the Seahawks at home, which is not easy no matter how ####ed up they are, and then we dismantled the lions. Last year that game would've been a dogfight that we probably would have lost. I understand some fans get carried away predicting superbowls, but most of us 9er fans are just happy to be competitive again, so you do us a disservice when you lump us together like that (not that I mind a little optimism from the "faithful.") It sounds like you're upset about last year's Lion collapse, and you want to ascribe that same formula to all other bottom-tier teams. That makes no sense, as at least some of those bottom feeders are bound to improve and become contenders (think Saints in '06.) You seem to suggest that bad teams will stay that way forever. What logic is that?
Get real people...he has a point ya'll do this then when your team fades suddenly grow silent...where's the support then? A lot of the teams he mentioned are doing good so far but not even a quarter of the season has gone by...so know one really knows how good anyone actually is..for all we know Dallas will lose every game the rest of the season (wouldn't that be awesome) and Detroit and Kansas will be playing in the super bowl after having beat the raiders and seahawks for the conference championships.

I'm happy with the progress the Niners have made. We still have much to fix, but the team is leaps and bounds ahead of last year. We actually have an offense that can move the ball.
What's intruiging is given how weak the NFC West is this year, we have a strong chance of taking the division. I don't think the Cards have it in them (the first win was a fluke). We're not a strong team by any means, but I'd be more than happy to take that door to the playoffs.

The way I see it, yeah, we Niner fans probably annoyed almost everyone back in the day. It has been a long time since the 80's, as my kids love to remind me...Those of us who have remained die hard fans all thru the down times have earned the right to have a bit of pride now that the light of dawn appears to be coming. Are we there yet, probably not, but its coming soon. and getting better.
Now then, the Lions, Chiefs, and Rams fans have had their down time too, for a lot longer than we have. When you see the sun come up, you will have earned some pride too. We'll still talk some trash, because thats what men, especially sports fans, do. Life goes on...quit crying, order a beer, and if nothing else, rejoice that Millen finally got axed today...
In the meantime....whether they make the playoffs or not, week in and week out, year in and year out, I'll be on my couch screaming at my TV and cheering for the Niners. So nyah....:)
