I have to admit I got a kick out of seeing several of the Steelers arrive in Detroit wearing Jerome Bettis' No. 6 Notre Dame jersey. Of course, I saw Hines Ward in one and thought, "Oh, if only..." but then realized, knowing how ND managed talent at the time, we probably would have tried to turn him into an option quarterback. Oh well.
But the best line goes to my husband, who upon seeing his team in the green jerseys on ESPN, yelled, "Those damn green jerseys better not jinx us!"
Gbrent just made reference to those throw back jerseys and the jinx. Hope your husband recovers if Seattle wins, and yes ND would have tried to turn Ward into an option QB.
It's not a throwback that jinxes us, it's the color green. Every team has greens to pull out. They're supposed to be reserved for national championship games. Unfortunately for the guys, the only team they seem to work for is the women's soccer team.
Read an article about the Steelers players all wearing Detroit Lions jerseys earlier this year in honor of their ex-Lion player defensive coach #### Lebeau. Now, that would have been a sight.
Thanks for relaying one of my comments on my recent post here SoCal.
As for the green jerseys, at least those pulling for Pittsburgh have a legitimate scape goat if they are upset in the Super Bowl.
I know it is both a homecoming and send off party for Bettis, so that is why the Steelers players have been wearing them. But for a superstitious team that has declared they will stick with their road jerseys despite being the "home" team during the Super Bowl soley because they have been lucky for them thus far, you wouldn't think they would dare risk the bad luck.
I am a chick who lives for sports -- football, hockey, college basketball, lacrosse, you name it.
As a girl from Baltimore married to a guy from Pittsburgh, my football loyalties and love for my husband are put to the test every weekend. Fortunately, he's an understanding guy.
As is our dog, who loves his football, and my beloved Irish.
