I just don't see how the Celtics present any more problem to the Lakers than the Spurs did, and we see what happened to them.
If Boston loses game one they'll get swept. Regardless, once this series goes to L.A., it's not coming back.
1st Round: The Lakers swept the 50 win Nuggets - Boston struggled against the 37 win Hawks.
2nd Round: The Lakers closed out the team with the best home record in the NBA...on the road. The Celtics went seven games against a team with a one dimensional superstar who can't shoot jumpers and has no teammates to speak of. 3rd Round: The Lakers sent the defending champs, with the greatest PF of all-time, packing in five games, a team with four titles in the last 10 years. THEIR big three has three championships together. The Celtics beat a team that had been to six straight conference finals with only one ring to show for it. The only players on the Celtics roster with titles are two bench players.
As much as I would enjoy a nice series, I just don't see what the Celtics can do that Utah and San Antonio couldn't do and together both of those franchises couldn't come up with four wins against L.A.
Celtics are better than the Spurs. A lot of Laker fans are running their mouths for a team that isn't nearly as good as they think they are. The Lakers were handed gift calls in bunches in the Spurs series, and haven't faced the defense of The Truth, KG, and Rajon Rondo.
You can say the Celts have no answer for Kobe, but the Lakers have no answer for Paul Pierce. Plus, I'd rather have Paul Pierce and a Ray Allen in a groove than Kobe and Vlad Radmonovic. The Lakers don't have a big man who can beat KG. Pau is tissue paper soft on D. Plus Rondo can torch that old PG named Fisher. Celts in 6.
PATSROCK07 is right, the Celtics are better than the Spurs.
But PATSROCK07 is also wrong. THe Lakers are as good as they think they are. They didn't beat the Spurs because of the refs, buddy. They won because they outplayed them in every facet of the game.
No team has an answer for Kobe. Kobe has proven he can take over a game in Boston. He's done it for years at the Garden.
Pierce, meanwhile, will have his entire native city against him. Can Pierce come back home and play well? Don't think so. And those gang signs he was flashing? Bad news. The rival gang will be in L.A. waiting for him.
Hey patsrock.....The Lakers are as good as everyone thinks they are. The Celtics are weak. They are sucking air in the 4th. They cant hang with the Lakers.
The big upset already happened. No one expected these two teams to be here. Lakers looked like they were going down the drain 10 months ago. Boston had the biggest turn around in history.
Now it's head to head in the finals. Because of where they came from, it would be hard to label either outcome to be an upset.
Boston had the superior regular season. Lakers have had the better playoffs up to this point.
A few points to ponder for all of you debating Lakers and Celtics fans.
Past history means nothing as to how this series will be determined.
Secondly, the regular season matchups between these two teams is HARDLY telling, considering the Lakers at the time employed Kwame Brown and Brian Cook, their two weakest links on the team.
Thirdly, in the 41 games Pau Gasol's been in the lineup, the Lakers are 33-8. That's a 66-win pace, similar to Boston's regular season record. So therefore, one would think that it's an even matchup at this point right?
Wrong. There is a stark difference. Of those 41 games, 15 have come in the playoffs. And as we know, it's much harder to win in the playoffs than in the regular season. The Celtics' 66 wins came in the regular season, while they've only won 12 of 20 in the playoffs... a .600 win pctg that translates to about 50 wins during an 82-game season. Meanwhile, LA has won 12 of 15, an .800 win pctg which translates to... well I'll be damned... 66 wins. Looks like Lakers have always been on pace with Gasol while the Celtics have... well, who cares.
