In about two seasons D Wade is going to pull a Kobe and start demanding to be traded. Where would he like to go? Home to Chicago of course. Which is why I suggested earlier that the Heat should not wait until that inevitable fiasco befalls them and make the trade to the Bulls of:
Wade - Marion to Chicago for
Gordon, Duhon, Thebolosha, Deng and Gooden.
Now that the Bulls have the #1 overall, if they made that trade and drafted Rose they would then have a starting five of:
Rose - Wade - Marion - Noah - Thomas [ Bench - Nocioni - Hinrich - Hughes]
Miami could then Draft Beasley and start:
Gordon - Davis - Deng - Beasley - Blount [ Bench - Jason Williams, Udonis Haslem - Cook, Wright].
If Miami doesn't leverage their current position and draft status, they will pay the price when Wade decides to go and they lose trade leverage.
If the Bulls do not make any trades, then they should draft Beasley and resign Gordon and Deng.
Hinrich - Gordon - Deng - Beasley - Thomas [Bench - Thebolosha - Nocioni - Noah - Duhon]
The Bulls lost most of their leverage to trade Deng and Gordon when they didn't pull the trigger on a trade for either Kobe, Garnett or Gasol. Why should they draft Rose when they have Hinrich, Gordon and Duhon on the team and no other NBA teams will give them a trade worth value because they know that Godon and Deng have already turned down contract extensions? Seems like a no brainer to me. Then again like Bill Simmons says...it's the No Balls Association.
Oh yeah, Danilo Gallinai Hands down the third best player in the draft. Because nobody else seems to think so, the Knicks and D'Antoni might get lucky and he'll still be available at #6.
The big question is will teams draft for need or popularity?
I really don't see how that trade would make sense for either party. The Heat would turn into a slightly better team than the Bulls of 08, and as foolish as I might sound by saying this, I don't think that Wade is still the superstar he was back in his championship day. I realize he is still very young, but his body seems to have aged beyond his years. He doesn't have that explosion any more and for all the flack that Lebron gets for not developing a shot, Wade's is much worse.
As it is right now, Beasley is a huge question mark, both on the floor and off. He is a bit of a knucklehead, which will be held against him by Paxson. Also, although he is listed as 6-9, although closer to 6-7 or 6-8, and it is rare that a big man type at that size really flourishes at the NBA level.
If the Bulls draft Rose and the team stays as is, the lineup should look like this. Rose, Hughes/Gordon, Deng, Gooden, Noah. The Bulls would do well to unload Larry Hughes, as his erratic shooting and frustrating willingness to hoist awful shots every time down don't fit with any team, let alone the Bulls.
The decision is simple, and it is Derrick Rose.
Also, assuming the Bulls do the obvious and draft Rose, it would further clog up the backcourt and force some creativity by Paxson and the Bulls new coach. Paxson would have to try to unload both Hinrich and Hughes, and while that job is both undesirable and very tough, it needs to be done. Hinrich still has some value and is not wildly overpaid. Hughes's name still seems to carry some value, although I am not sure why. Another player that could bring in value might be Tyrus Thomas, who still doesn't have anything in his arsenal outside of a dunk, but is very raw and could develop late like Jermaine Oneal.
What I am trying to get at is that while the Basketball G-ods have finally smiled on the Bulls once again and presented them with the #1 pick, there is still more work that needs to be done. Rose helps alot, but Paxson will have to have a very busy offseason if the turnaround is to be a quick one.
my point exactly. If the Bulls draft Rose they will then have a total of four guys that are PG/SG's and they have to get rid of at least two of them with no trade leverage.
Hoff:
I'm telling you, Wade is going to be trying to exit stage left in two seasons. Riley is the same coach that broke up one young playoff tested team with a core of Butler, Odom and Wade and then traded Shaq after he delivered him an NBA title. Riley is smart enough to understand that change is inevitable. For those people who see D Wade in a Heat uniform for the rest of his career, it's not going to happen. Riley better pull a move now before Wade demands to be traded.
I agree with chitown's finest, I don't think that Wade will ever approach his championship form, which would suggest that he could singlehandedly lead the Heat to another title. Keeping him would be like Philly holding on to A.I. for two season too long and trying the horrendous C Webb experiment. Move him now while he's still got value.
Also, neither Rose or Beasley would instantly make either team a contender next season or the year afterwards. Both teams need a complete makeover. Also if the Heat don't sign and trade Marion he's just going to leave without them getting anything in return when they could get 17 million worth of quality players. Make the trade and both teams start playoff bound teams next season.
Are you a Bulls fan or something? That is ridiculous. Wade is a franchise player, trading him for a bunch of guys who will more than likely be role players for the rest of their career is retarded.
Chitownsfinest, Wade has a much better mid-range game than Lebron do you even watch him? In his down year that everyone is trashing him for he was 5th in the league in scoring. He thrives on driving and kicking out, the reason he got so beat up is for one he rushed back, and for two he got discouraged in passing it out cuz nobody was hitting shots. His teammates SUCKED. It is amazing how fickle sports fans are, one year struggling with injury and your career is done. Get over it.
Actually I'm a Knicks fan. Nevertheless. Nobody is accepting the fact that Wade and LeBron both signed shorter deals than their draft counterparts implicitly because they both knew they would be looking to relocate as soon as possible. We already know where LeBron is heading (see Jay Z).
The Heat will lose Wade one way or another. For those among you who suggest that Riley keep him, what are you your answers for when he decides to bolt?
Why not trade him now. You see Denver already having talks about Carmelo and he has one more team option year than does either James or Wade. They are going to lose him one way or another. That's the reality of the situation. I'm trying to figure out a way to soften the blow.
The bottom line is that Wade WILL opt out in two seasons and then he's going to be trying to get to Chicago. So, do the Heat bit the bullet now or later? By trading him now you get five potential starters for Wade and Marion. The Heat will not do much better than that in two seasons.
Well if management is as narrow minded as you are, and I know you're used to that in New York, and concede that Wade is gone, then yeah. Riley is no #### (though bringing Ricky Davis and Smush Parker was unforgiveable). He will structure the payroll so that enough money will come off the cap to allow the Heat to give Wade his payday. The only way he bolts is if they do not make the Heat a contender by then and he continues to take a beating physically. If that happens I don't blame him, but he won a championship in Miami, and he can own the city if he stays (and a popular, big city at that). We call Dade, 'Wade-County' right now, if you think Miami has no appeal to D-Wade you obviously don't know what you are talking about. Your logic about going home makes no sense because 'Bron IS home and you're saying he's surely gone. All it takes from Cleveland or Miami is effort. Miami has the better situation structurally than Cleveland and they've given their star a 'chip, it is far from a foregone solution that Wade will leave.
SR,
Wade is fifth in scoring only because he can drive to the basket. I think what Chitown was saying is he isn't a very good shooter from outside just a tad below LeBron. In my mind Wade isn't all that and the Heat had a good enough team to make a run at atleast an 8th seed this season. They tanked the season on purpose in my mind.
Let us not forget that Wade is having to play for his third coach in three seasons in Miami. How long do you think that he can #### that sort of turnover at the top?
gambit, you are wrong, his points in the paint AND free throws were down this year because the lane was always crowded with defenders. He actually made more bank shots and mid-range jumpers than he has in any other year, and if you think Blount Ricky Davis and Chris Quinn are playoff caliber teammates I dont know what to tell you. Haslem missed significant time, Shaq abandoned the team from jump, and J-will was also hurt. Maybe on paper they had a decent team, but they played most of the season with 8 guys. See, I actually WATCH the Heat rather than look at stat sheets, and the few TNT games that everyone else sees. You guys may know more about your teams, but obviously you're just talking based on popular belief. Saying Wade is just a tad below LeBron and then saying he's not all that makes absolutely no sense unless you're saying LeBron is just a tad better than not all that. Say what you will about Wade, I've been following him since high school, and pinned his potential just like I did with CP3. Wade is a gamer, and he will continue to be an all-star, and he still has an NBA Finals MVP something that alot of the guys who are "better" than him don't and probably never will get.
in my honest opinion LeBron isn't all that great himself. Until he developes a consistant outside shot and some better defense then he's just a descent player in my mind. I've seen plenty of Heat games since Wade has been there. I don't live in Hell...I mean Ohio you know. Besides I have the NBA package on my T.V. so I can see just about any game. Now I'm not saying that the players he was surrounded with are great,But neither is the ones in Atlanta. So you tell me what's wrong with that pictuer. They tanked the season... I know it , you know it and the rest of the NBA fans know it whether you admit it or not.
How can you compare the Heat's cast to Atlanta, are you serious? Childress, Horford, Johnson, Marvin Williams, Pachulia, Bibby....come on dude...Yea the Heat may have tanked after the season was already lost, but it was all the selfish ####s who bailed on Wade to nurse injuries when Wade opted to delay surgery last season and play in the post season. Meanwhile this season while everyone else complained about their ankle, or hip, Wade played on nagging injuries and still produced with no help. They did not tank until after the break when it was clear they had no chance. Again, you may casually watch Heat games, but I watch every game, there is a big difference. I watch as much of the Hornets as I can throughout the season cuz I like CP3, but that doesnt mean I know more than a New Orleans fan who watches every game. You saying LeBron is not all that, yet leads the league in scoring and pretty much carries a team tells me enough to quit arguing with you cuz there is no rationality in that.
Those players for Atlanta aren't all that! What the heck are you smoking? Did you get some of that good stuff from Ricky Williams over there? Pass it this way why don't you. While I agree with you that the players around Wade are a bunch of sissy's that's not to say that I think they still couldn't have made a better effort both players and coach.
LeBron leads the league in scoring because of the same reason they lost game 7 to Boston, he's a ball hog! Kobe did the same by being a ball hog 2 years in a row. James is good but not great and anyone who believes he is at this time is smoking crack!
I can see DW wanting to be traded. It's been too unstable. As much as I see that first trade a head-scratcher, when you consider all of the other trades that have happened (Gasol, Garnett, Shaq), why not? Trading the franchise player for a bunch of other players doesn't seem so far-off.

I don't think that there's much chance of that happening at all. Riley and most certainly the Heat's owner Mickey Arison wouldn't allow that to happen. They will however move heaven and earth to make sure that D-Wade does have team to complement his undoubted talents.
However they're definitely going to struggle this upcoming season. Other than Marion, Banks and Wade there's not on the roster that'd lead you to believe that they've got what it takes to be truly competitive this upcoming season.

I for one can't trust Riley to do the appropriate thing concerning the franchise. He basically lucked out when they got D-Wade. But since then they've been mired in mediocrity with regard to their draft picks.
He'd better know this however it'll be his last chance.
This is the guy that Miami is entrusting their future in. But it'll be Riley calling the shots as usual. And even then I don't think that he's still got it !
