No, I'm not jackin' a headline or jockin' Dear Abby or Andy Rooney to get a post count. No, I don't have "blog lite" on tap today. Hell, I don't even have a mustache. Not since the 80's, anyway. Nor do I jack handles from Dungeons & Dragons, regale you with my tales of swingery, or spew mysoginy.
What I do have is another blackhand smash of realitah, so all you featherweights and imaginary reptiles better take cover. 'Nuff said on that.
On to the real. 'Da Bears decided that there was a little too much gas for extracurriculars left in the Tank, so they cut him loose. It saddens me, because for some reason I liked the guy, but it was the right move by the first team with enough balls to say "no mas". Even though the NFL had taken decisive action with Mr. Johnson, the Bears made the strongest statement regarding conduct yet.
And this has what to do with Titans, again?
It led many to question why the Flaming Thumbtacks haven't parted ways with Adam (Crac-Man) Jones. I call him Crac-Man, by the way, because anyone who has 15 criminal investigations pending and goes for #16, must be smoking some powerful ####
Giant head, tiny brain. Dragon maybe?
Nevertheless, Johnson's pink slip has many buzzing about why Adam Jones still has a roster spot. Bear in mind that Jeff Fisher has gone on the record saying the Tacks have moved on. The FO has even signed a few DB's. And in the most impressive move, VY stated that Crac "don't care about us". Misuse of pronouns aside, Young continues to impress me this offseason. The example he's setting is stellar.
And what about Ron Mexico? Why is it that the Falcons endure the constant humiliation of Vick's willingness to spread venereal disease, flip off the home crowd, ####-can his coaches, and torture and kill innocent animals?
It's simple economics kids, where both Chick and Crac-man are concerned. Forget the fact that the neither team's record the last few seasons has been anything to rave about. Forget that Fisher, like Bill Cowher quickly became in Pittsburgh, is so frightened of losing that he'll start even the least competent mediocre vets over unproven talent. Forget that the last thing Bobby Petrino wants to do is start his first NFL season with Joey Harrington or Chris Redman under center. Forget that the fact that even the most exciting #### is still more exciting than a career rumdum. Forget it all, except for this.
I am so sick of being a morahn! Hey Whiz, how do you spell ####?
The games are played for money. The Tacks and the Birds both fronted a reasonable amount of cash to see these boys on the field. Tank, though, was not a bonus baby and therefore much more dispensible.
In the case of Titans, it's lot less loss, but they're going to be bearing the McNair legacy for a few years yet. So they need all the coin they can get.
In the Mexico case, Arthur (I don't know a screen pass from a screen door) Blank invested a whole forest worth of lumber in Vick and still hasn't gotten so much as a 2 x 4 back.
So these guys will stick, even if it is bad money after good. Because Reese and Blank are desperate men. Desperate not just to cover their misjudgements, but to cover their losses. Heck, if the Feds get around to serving justice to Chick, Home Depot may even impose a cover charge.
Why the Falcons can afford Vick
And don't you Mexico apologists kid yourselves into thinking that the recent lull in headlines is any sign that the Feds don't have that grand jury waiting. Just remember that they'll take their own sweet time and all of our money to get it straight, because they can.
So the real question is why the NFL hasn't take more action against Crac or any action against Mexico. Again, same answer. Because, as players and agents keep reminding us, the NFL is a business as in NFF (not for free).
So for now, the rich at least stay rich and the poor get poorer. It's like the world, Roger Gooddell and all of his tough talk seems to have a pay scale for justice.
Chris you can write some pretty funny stuff. I think you, like me, look at all this craip in sports and just kind of throw your hands up, giggle in disbelief, and say, "Now that was reitarded."
Good stuff man. I enjoy the sense of humor you bring with each post.
Sorry for the edit but I cant say cra(I)p or re(i)tarded for some reason...lol.
I appreciate your sentiments. It's been my goal to make my blogs informative and entertaining.
I am interested, though, in seeing how many responses I get when I don't directly tackle the most controversial issues.
My concern is that this community really has only two major categories, those who can't deal with reality (and want the #### the bearded lady writes) or those who respond to reality by unleashing their (not so repressed) emotions at the first writer who dares challenge the legitamacy of their (supposed) plight.
Then there's a handful of people who actually appreciate, well written, tongue-in-cheek, but none the less cutting journalism. Thankfully there are 2 or 3 of you guys.
Well Chris, I am going to tell you what you already know. Most here on this site are what you discribed first. I predict you won't get many hits on this simply b/c the blogosphere on a whole, whether here or any other news organization tends to drift toward extremes. It is as you said above, usually the outragous posts that garner the most attention. At least that is what I have seen since I have been here.
Chris' Ross .....I've got to implicitly agree with everything you've said so far. Business or not money comes first and everything else is secondary for that matter. Vick a la Ron Mexico has been coddled so much by Blank and the rest of the as*holes within the Falcons' empire. That they were too stupid top realize that the guy with all his flaws was just being his usual self.
In the long run it'll end up costing the franchise more than it'll hit Blank in the pocket overall. As not all of his fortune is vested in the franchise.
I don't know if you saw Ditka's impassioned plea yesterday when he was addressing Congress with regard to the problems that the retired players of the NFL are facing ? If that shouldn't tell us that changes need to be made then I don't know what else will. Upshaw and his band of pi** ants are indifferent to the needs of these players. Especially the older veterans and some of the recently retired players of the last fifteen plus years. The fact of the matter is now that people like Upshaw are just blowin' smoke up everyone's a*s when they say that they're doing everything within their power to do what's necessary. The players' union is self serving as all they're interested in is getting a bigger slice of the pie without dealing with the inherent problems of their elderly members.
Thanks for your thoughts. Coming from you, they have real value to me.
I'm not sure what Ditka and Co. will achieve. Players have been walking off the field into wheelchairs for decades, and once they're discarded, the NFL needs them like OJ needs black folks.
Read you T-hat piece by the way. i left some remarks today.
I miss the NFL from the 70's and early 80's. It seems to me the NFL is full of thugs now. Maybe they are just the ones getting the press. I do wonder if they were thugs to begin with or money just changed them in a bad way....or maybe a combo of both.
It is my love for the NFL past that keeps me watching my Steelers. I am sad that my daughters will never know what it means to really be pationate about your team and its players. Money is said to make the world go round but it has stopped the NFL in its tracks.
Chris' Ross ...... Yeh they've all but left the field of play in crutches. But had these been guys coming hime wounded from Iraq there'd be a public outcry. And we all know what the public thinks about the war don't we ? It's a disgrace and something ought to be done ! But for now we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Look how long it took for Selig and his cronies to get what's been deemed as a hard hitting drug policy in place. It' doesn't even meet the standards of the IOC let alone WADA. But yet we're told that's the best that could be done. It'll no doubt be the same with the players' association. Let's see if Goodell really has the balls to get something really done. Although it'll be encumbent upon Upshaw getting up of his black a*s !
You tugged at my heartstrings there. I bleed the Black and Gold of Chuck Noll's (real) Steelers.
What's amazing, though, is that if you consider the % of thugs in the NFL vs. the percentage of the population in trouble, the NFL is ahead of society. I don't know if that's good for them, or bad for us.
But the sad fact is, today's player, and the way the game is played have changed. The athletes are stronger and faster, but their hearts and minds are indescribably weaker.
Selig's policy, coupled with his turning a blind eye to Bonds thievery, makes it lip service.
The NFL, however imperfect, is light years ahead of baseball in dealing with conduct. Their treatment of vets is another issue. But in comparison, how many baseball players leave the game crippled?
It seems every time I watch ESPN I see another NFL player arrested. I know they are the few but are the ones we always hear about!
I think the reason we were able to be so passionate about our 70's Steelers is because the players stuck around long enough for us to get to know and care about them.
I still love the black and gold and think they made a good hire to replace Bill.
Chuck Knoll!! Now he was the man!! I REALLY hope you are right! My husband is a Raiders' fan so you can imagine the fun I have had at his expense.....until last season!! How embarassing!!
I guess opposites do attract. He is also a republican and I am a democrat. We had to agree NOT to discuss politics when Bush ran for office. Now he has drifted over my way...lol
Dont put people out because they are attacked excessively by the media. The NFL players are NOT playing for money. The players are talented and they play the game right and they play with pride. Money is just an incentive, the NFL does NOT play their games off of money
Even though you made fun of Lisa and Demon in the beginning, you actually made a post that made sense. Even though I'm a Falcon fan who didn't think he did but also doesn't care what he did, I can see your point of view. I don't get your view of Cowher though. When has he played mediocre over unproven? I remember Willie Parker over Bettis.
Chris' Ross ..... The physicalities of the two sports are entirely different off course.
But why are the players' union so secretive with regard to their internal operations ? They make Opus Dei seem positively transparent
as to how they operate.
Upshaw clearly doesn't have the interest of his members at heart. And if nothing else he should be dealing with this before Congress intervenes. And that's something they definately cannot afford to have happen.
Don't get me wrong, I adore your idealism . . . but, would you go camping with me ? Or at least take a look at some choice real estate in the Everglades I have to sell?
You know what Jimmy from South Park said; "It's like, come on . . . . "
How many guys are holding out this summer, or ever held out because they wanted their contracts re-done to include more pride?
Even you I made fun of two idiots, and even though you damned me with feint praise, I'm glad you actually read, then reacted.
As far as Cowher goes, I've always felt he tokk potentially great teams and coached them down to pretty good teams. Cowher is simply not very bright. I'm thrilled to see Tomlin take over. I was very concerned about his short resume at first, but the guy displays intelleigence and character. I don't think he's afraid to take a chance or two at being great rather than just repeating what makes a team pretty good.
