Knowing No Limits
Oct 05, 2006 | 8:47PM | report this

Every day, there is a big story in sports that about 500 people here end up writing about         (-ish).  Eventually, we all get sick of it and move on.  What we really need is even more variety, more ideas, more people.  What we really need is for more to travel The Road.

People want to write about major things not because they want to, but because they can do it easily.  Take the T.O. debaccle.  I can honestly say I did not write anything about it.  But, just because I didn't doesn't mean a whole bunch of others did.  What I really want to see is more people writing things that don't stand out as much, things that don't get enough credit.

However, I know that I'm going to be ignored by the general blogging public.  Just look at me today.  Before I switched to the new idea, I was doing great.  Now, it's a big whopping 1 comment.  Sure, people may not want to say anything, but there's more than that.  They don't like people that are different, that stand out, that take The Road.  They do this so they can pick on someone, to make them feel superior.  Again, we need that here.

In sports, it's like this too.  There's always those select few that are brave (or bad) enough to stand out.

The MLB Road Award: Barry Bonds.  Do I need to say anything?

The NFL Road Award: Kyle Boller.  He's never played well.  He's even worse that Matt Millen.

The NBA Road Award: A.I.  With his flashy dress apparel, he was always talked about.  Looked what happened: uniformity.

See, people need to stand out.  It's what makes them who they are, as well as those who choose to lead or follow the crowd.  It's about choices you make, wondering whether to take the extra step.  It's about not knowing what's going to be in your future.  It's about being someone they don't want you to be.  It's about yourself.   You have the opportunity.  Take every shot.

"why is there two roads?  Why not have just one?"
"Son, because there are some brave enough to got The Road Less Traveled.

Being There for Each Other- New Orleans Saints
Oct 05, 2006 | 5:04PM | report this

You had to wake up at 4:00 AM to go to work.  You have to walk by your newborn daughter's room, and you peek in to see her sound asleep.  Thinking that you’re the luckiest Dad in the world, you get ready and leave.

When you get to work, all is going great.  Until the phone rings.  It's your wife, saying that your daughter is having a seizure.  You rush home to get her to the hospital.  Unfortunately, they don't have room for you at the moment, and they forget about you and your daughter, who is deteriorating by the minute.

You leave and try to take care of her yourself, staying up all night, sleeping in shifts, making sure she's ok.  Meanwhile, the hospital still won't take her in.  No matter how bad she's doing they won't take her in.

The next week, she dies, and the hospital is finally ready for her.  You cry with your wife asking yourself how the hospital couldn't take care of one little person.

It’s been a year now, with the whole world on your side.  You finally get relieved, when a new girl is born.  Everyone is cheering for you, rooting for you, helping you, becoming you.  You know that though life will never be the same, you can live with what you have.

The Saints, in the aftermath of Katrina, where forgotten about, left alone, vanished.

They never really thought that maybe the Saints could bring New Orleans back together.  Instead, they did nothing in all areas.

Again, it’s been a year, and they see that the Saint’s really did bring New Orleans together, even if it was only for a few hours.  At least they knew that they could count on them to give them some escape from reality.

I write to you today, asking that you still keep them in your prayers.  That you know that they still need help.  That they need someone to keep them going.  That they need you.

“Life means happiness.  Life means togetherness.  Life means that you take the road less traveled.”
