As you now know, THE Basketball Poll is back. However, it's back with a vengence. This year, I have added a twist to the former pure formula; the humans have an input. And here is how it works.
(Barring a low turnout) I will have 9 of America's best bloggers to join me in the human portion of the poll --Max points a team can recieve from human: 250.
I will do my formula from last year, with a twist --AP points jump from 25 for 1st to 250 (to accomodate human poll) --Win/Losses jump from 1/2 (1st 8 games) to 10/20 (to accomodate)
This way, no one can kill me for having Wisconsin #1. (Oh boo hoo, tarlerheelsbrough)
To apply for the role of the human poll, do one of the following: --e-mail me at chorizo245@hotmail.com, with your FOXBlog name and a paragraph describing why you should be a factor (if I get more than 9 applicants) --leave a comment with your e-mail address and a good couple sentences describing why you should be a factor (if I get more than 9 applicants) --If you forget you FOXBlog name (e-mail) or your e-mail address (Comment), you are disqualified.
Remember, EVERYBODY HATES WISCONSIN! (Yeah Illinois beats Wisconsin, we drop 14. Stanford beats USC, they drop 7. Does that even make sense?)
Wow. I didn't know about this. I am REALLY not in it.
Seriously, could ANYONE be more biased AGAINST Wisconsin? I mean, we're 3rd in the nation, but NO, we get a flipping two seed behind Florida. And UCLA, who LOST in the QUARTERS. And NC. I mean, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah. That's better. So, Wisconsin will beat OSU, get the two seed, OSU gets #1 overall, and all will be right with the world.
Oh, and I'm sticking to my theory that Wisconsin will not win the Championship if we do not get the #1 Midwest seed. Why? According to ESPN/Fox Sports, the Midwest sorta sucks. And, the East and South are loaded.
I love this time of year. If the Blog of Fame picks College Sports, I hope I get nominated. I'll have a field day with this.
Let's get more of this stuff out of the way. Kansas won't win it all, UCLA, Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio State are WAYYYYYY overhyped, and Wisconsin gets no love.
Granted, they might be better, but it's like USC the past three years. It's the Colts. It's the Pistons. The overhype always screws you over (the Super Bowl was a fluke, they shouldn't have won the AFC Championship). I can guarantee that UCLA/FLA/NC/OSU will NOT win it all. Wisconsin probably won't either.
However, a Midwest #1 for Wisconsin, and we hit the Final Four.
Oh, and all 4 #1 seeds have only made the Sweet Sixteen together 4 times since '79.
Sorry For the D-lay. I got caught up in school. Warning: THIS POLL IS SET AS IF THE POLL JUST CAME OUT ON MONDAY. ANY GAMES PLAYED ON MONDAY ARE NOT ON THIS ISSUE. Thank you. Welcome to the February 19, 2007 Edition of “Chorizo’s College Basketball Top Teams!”
NFL PreGame shows just got worse. Bill Cowher, unable to leave football, has joined “The NFL Today” on CBS to work as an analyst. Another person who did this is Tiki Barber, who will be an analyst on NBC’s “Football in America” or whatever it is, with Jerome “The Bus” Bettis. The real question is “WHY?????” Why ruin (or in CBS’s and NBC’s case, help) pregame shows? They are the delicate balance between me watching it, and no one watching it (Besides, CBS’s and NBC’s pregame shows suck anyways.)
Barry Bonds signed a contract today; didn’t he already sign? I’m confused. He “held out”, he agreed, ??? I’m really confused now. Grr me.
Florida should have lost, and Ohio State almost lost. But of course, they didn’t, so it means diddly squat. Everybody Hates Wisconsin. But, they DID win.
I’m really starting to like this place for several reasons. One: It’s Not FOX. (I mean COME ON, who still likes Kareem?) Two: More Personalization (Yeah, like you miss FOX’s standard layout with COLORS!!) Three: This is like the AAA of Blogging (Like we know what we’re doing; I like the new ones, but they need a place for AA, and FOX makes sure that they get as little help as possible with the R-MLB ranks) And Finally, Four/Five: No more spamming categories and no more spamming people from FOX/BlogJam. (YAY!!!)
“Covering Wisconsin, one really bad loss at a time.
Most of you read that title and were thinking “?????” Well, I’m from Wisconsin. I’m also one of the 2% of people from Wisconsin who’s sick of the Wisconsin Badgers being overrated. For those of you who came from FOXSports, you might know that I despise Jeff Goodman. Well, let’s add the AP Poll and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll to “The List of Nouns that Suck.”
When Jeff Goodman created the NCAA BB Power Poll, I expected Wisconsin in the Top 10 out of the 20 listed. Instead, they were like 12th or 13th. So, while UCLA, Florida, NC, and Ohio State all lost, Wisconsin never surpassed them. Actually, Wisconsin only passed Ohio State once, and then they lost a few weeks later. So, while the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll had us #2 and #3, we were still #4 in Jeffy’s eyes.
As for the AP Poll, they really aren’t THAT bad. But they did three things wrong. 1-When UCLA & NC lose, they don’t drop far enough. Why? They think it was a fluke. Yet they keep losing. Grrr. Stupid East Coast Bias (UCLA’s an exception to this bias), and Wisconsin’s in the Midwest, yet we’re east of the Mississippi. But, we aren’t in the East Coast bias. Also, the Coaches Poll ticked me off because for a great while, they had us #3, while we were the AP #2. Grrr again.
Before I leave, just a few Chronicle notes before I leave: No “author’s names” wrote it; it’s all by one person. New Page/Link thing: “The List of Nouns that Suck.”
“Covering Wisconsin, one really bad game at a time.”
Ok. North Carolina lost today (YAY!!!!!), and Wisconsin won today (DOUBLE YAY!!!!!). Now that the standings really changed, let's take another look at my poll!
Notes-Florida gained ground on Wisconsin. -For WIsconsin, Butler, and Duke, all games now have the x4 multiplier for going onto their 25th game. -Wisconsin will be no worse than 4 in next week's AP Poll.
I've been thinking since Wisconsin lost on Wednesday. What do the polls really show? Favorites. That's all it is. So, I'm proud to introduce to you: Chorizo's CBB Top 15 "Poll". It's a very simple formula, but there's no need explaining it. (POLL THROUGH 2-1-07)
School Name My Rank AP Rank Score Wisconsin 1*a 2 70 Florida 2 1 63 Kansas 3 6 57 North Carolina 4 3 56 Butler 5*b 13 55 Ohio State 6*c 4 54 UCLA 7*c 5 54 Nevada 8*b 15 50 Pittsburgh 9 7 48 Memphis 10 10 47 Oregon 11 9 45 Texas A&M 12 11 41 Duke 13 8 39 Marquette 14 14 38 Oklahoma State 15 12 35
a-Wisconsin, through all my poll variations before this one was still #1. Not my fault. b-Nevada and Butler were high due to many more road wins than other teams, which affected their score. c-For ties, Ohio State wins due to AP Rank.
I'll Update this regularly, so it won't be very outdated. Also, recognition goes to anyone who figures out the formula.
Ok. Since last week's Wisconsin debate, I have come back to knownisityness. Now...it's time for another...
Chorizo's Top 10: Why Florida Will Not Make the Final Four
10. They'll get screwed on Selection Sunday. 9.This year, they'll be like the Colts in the playoffs. 8.The AP will screw them over. Oh wait, that's WISCONSIN. 7.They already won the football national championship. 6.The Missouri Valley Conference. 5.Florida State beat Florida, and WISCONSIN killed Florida State. 4.Do you believe in miracles? 3.Chuh-oke. (Buh-lock) 2.Because Jeff Goodman is, and always wil be, an ####. 1. The only one that counts: Because I say so.
We won today, and the Tar Heels lost, yet I am sure we will not be number one, while my heart wants it to happen. Why? Let's see the Top 10 Reasons.
Chorizo's Top 10: Why Wisconsin Will Never Be Number 1
10. Where's Wisconsin? 9. Everybody knows they don't play anyone good. 8. The last time Wisconsin won a major championship, Mark McGuire wasn't on steroids. 7. Brett Favre has literally fried everybody's mind. 6. Everybody knows they don't play anyone good. 5. Longest winning streak in the nation, Number 3 in the polls? How 'bout dem Tar Heels? 4. It's the Midwest bias. 3. Everybody knows they don't play anyone good. 2. It's WISCONSIN, for God's sake! 1. And, by request (Previously #5): Jeff Goodman says so.
Ok, so I decided to come back early and screw the whole TV idea. I didn't understand what I was comprehending. (Or was it that I didn't comprehend what I was understanding...) Anyways, I'm just back, and y'all better get used to it.
So, let's get started with the Colts football. Devin "Return Man" Hester had his 5th and 6th Special Teams TDs for a new NFL Record. It's amazing that the Bears can win and Rex Grossman can actually not suck, but this kid can take the show. Also, Peyton Manning the Colt's defense was sort of bad. (Okay, they were HORRIBLE. I mean, they helped me win my Fantasy Football game, which gave me a 4 seed in the Playoffs; I will write about it soon after I finish this.) Um, the Chargers LaDainian Tomlinson won again, with 3 TDs, which broke Shaun Alexander's age-old record of 28 TDs. On a side note, the 49ers lost Packers won. Can you believe that the Brett "Farve" Favre didn't throw an interception? (Neither does my cat's great-grandchild, David Wilkes Harvey (John DAVID Booty, John? WILKES Booth, and Lee HARVEY Oswald).
In basketball, A.I. is getting traded, the Bucks suck, and the new ball has no real balls. MOVING on.
In hockey, I think the Sabres are doing fairly good. Okay, I gave my 10 words. Can I go on now?
Let's see. Baseball. Big news: NL Central is getting beefed up, Brewers go for little Pansy trades, the Red Sox still can't sign that Japanese pitcher guy (Lucky Yankees Brewers), and Bud Selig is still the BLEEP commissioner.
Now let's get to what I'm here for. College sports. First, Football. Ok, people hate the BCS, Michigan and USC hate the Rose Bowl, no one likes Wisconsin, Ohio State really shouldn't have to play in Glendale (Neither should Florida, but then in sounds like I think Florida is going to win), and I might do a semi-bowl preview. Ha. Like that's going to happen.
In college BBall, Wisconsin's doing fairly good. When good teams lose, we move up. Very smart, I may add. We play sucky mid-mid-mid-major Div. III-AAAA teams, good teams lose. GREAT strategy.
Ok, so this is short and not very informative. What do you expect, I just go t back and I'm not sure about even this article? Whatever. Stay tuned, because I'm going to do my Fantasy Football Playoff Preview (FFPP, for those who like RSA, Really Stupid Acronyms) tonight.
I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I'm coming back. The bad news is that I don't know when.
See, my blog name (Like the 8th one I've had) "The Cure for the Common Sports Blog" reflects my new technique I'm going to try out. I'm going to write like episodes of "House," where the "illness" is the sports story. I go through, discuss the problems, and all that jazz. (Famous quote thingy) We'll have House, Foreman, Cuddy, Chase, Cameron, Wilson, and, if anyone wants to, I'll let you guest star (I haven't figured how that'll work out yet.)
Unless I get comments asking me to start immediately, I won't start until Jan 2. (First month=Football) For the list of episode dates:
All dates Tuesday (All dates, first runs, and topics subject to change) All dates not during any playoffs are subject to reruns or recaps.
Feb. 14 (College BB (No Women's/CBB) (Sub-plot until Sel. Sunday) Feb. 21 (CBB) Feb. 28 (CBB) Mar. 7 (CBB)
Mar. 14 (CBB) (Sub-Plot throughout playoffs) Mar. 21 (CBB) Mar. 28 (CBB) Apr. 5 (CBB)
Apr. 12 (Baseball/MLB) Apr. 19 (MLB)
Apr. 26 (NBA) (Sub-plot throughout playoffs) May 3 (NBA) May 10 (NBA) May 17 (NBA) May 24 (NBA) May 31 (NBA) Jun. 7 (NBA) Jun. 14 (NBA) Jun. 21 (NBA) (Spring finale will end here; May start Summer immedieately, not do it, or take the 28th off)
Jun. 28 (MLB) (Several Sub-plots throughout Summer season) Jul. 5 (Rerun) Jul. 12 (MLB) Jul. 19 (MLB) Jul. 26 (MLB) Aug. 2 (MLB Trade Special) Aug. 9 (MLB) Aug. 16 (MLB) Aug. 23 (MLB) Aug. 30 (MLB) Sep. 6 (MLB) Sep. 13 (MLB/NFL) Sep. 20 (MLB/NFL) (Season end if I do not stop at Spring finale)
This will be the most confusing sports writing I will ever do. (If I even go through with it.)
Sorry for the lateness. I was busy, so I've got all three tonight.
First, Canisius.
Returning 6 players, and 7 new faces, including 5 Freshmen, Canisius is ready for November. Coming off a disappointing 9-20 record, whcih included 8 non-conference losses, the team expects to rebound with the likes of Darnell Wilson and Corey Herring, both Seniors.
Ok, I got this far. Be happy for me.
Honestly, no-one really knows about the MAAC. At all. Their conference doesn't even have any good things to read. I mean, my god, it's your own conference! At least the school that I go to, their conference has stuff. This is absoulutely horrible.
From Thursday to Sunday, I'll be predicting the overall season, Month by Month. (March will be with February, OK?) Also, these records will NOT coincide with my daily predictions, mainly because things change, ok? And plus, It's not like I'm perfect.
So, yeah, that's it for the whole team preview thing. I gave up. It's absolutely evil.
Ya know, tell ya what. If someone can write a decent preview on Canisius, I'll consider finishing the series. Other than that, wait until Thursday.
"Ya know, If the world is round, wouldn't a moving ball never stop, regardless of all those Science law thingys?"
Well, the Playoff Race has officially begun. We all know that the Reds Brewers will make the playoffs, but how are they doing? Let's take a look!
IF: Offense- Tony Graffanino and David Bell are probably some of the greatest acquisitions the Brewers have made in a LONG time. Graffanino is in the Top 3 for several key categories offensively for the Brewers since coming over. David Bell also gave Jeff Cirillo a much-needed breather. Prince is still ROTH candidate, and with his Homeruns, he's got one hell of a shot. Oh yeah. Bill Hall still leads Mil & all ML SS's w/ HRs. I like that shorthand. Grade- A
IF: Defense- They were awesome the last 2 weeks. Except for the 3-error game that they had, they didn't commit an error. Well, we knew they were going to happen eventually... Grade- A-
OF: Offense- Kevin Mench is doing OK. They finally replaced Geoff Jenkins with a tag-team of Gross and Hart. Clark is in his 2005 mode. Not the greatest, but OK. OK at best. Grade- B-
OF: Defense- Like the IF, they didn't have the errors. The 3 were spread out between the dirt and the grass, but they are still going solid. Grade- A-
SP: The rotation's back. Everyone's solid. Few bad outings. I say that's a BIG improvement. Grade- B
RP: Again, everyone is solid. I guess getting Ben and Tomo back really rested the bullpen. Great job, everyone. Except for Dan Kolb and Derrick Turnbow, that is. Grade- B-
CP: Cordero has a 0.00 ERA since coming to Mill-walk-eigh. 1 run, but that was not his baserunner. Oh yeah, he hasn't blown a save yet. Grade- A+
