THE Basketball Poll©, Presented by Coca-Cola© (Week1)
Nov 02, 2007 | 3:09PM | report this

Welcome back to THE Basketball Poll©.  Because I had a low turnout, I've decided again to revamp the formula.

There will be three polls this year. (AP Poll, Coaches Poll, CIP [Chorizo Interactive Poll])

For the ranking, the votes for the AP and Coaches Poll are divided by the maximum possible (1800 AP, 775 Coaches).  For the CIP, the points are divided by the one school with the most (IE: NC has 73, [73/73] Wisconsin has 44 [44/73])

The three percentages are then averaged, thus giving us our ranking.

Also, the CIP has been updated this year.
The points recieved from the AP Ranking is now removed.
Each Poll win (Defeating a team from either Top 25) received 5 points (2 last year)

Finally, here is the first edition of THE Basketball Poll©.

I live in Memphis and the expectations for this team is off the charts. A Final Four appearance or else this season will be a complete failure. They are extremely talented but lack rebounding presence game in, game out. At minimum, expect to see this team in the Elite Eight for the third straight year.

What I like about THE Basketball Poll© is the fact that one poll alone does not constitute a ranking. (Still hate the BCS, though.) Instead, the Coaches cancel out the AP and the AP cancels out the Coaches. THE CIP is just thrown in there because it's MY Poll, which means MY formula has to be involved.

Memphis has some if the best athletes in the nation, but the concept of team basketball aren’t there. If they ever become a team they would have no problem as a final four team. Even Calipari said he would rather have a stud for one year, so where does that leave the team concept????

Memphis is as talented a team as any in the nation, if you break them down individually and compare them to other schools. That being said, they are an Elite 8 caliber team, but I don't see them in the Final Four unless they become more consistent. Schools like UCLA and North Carolina are more consistent; hence I see them in the Final Four. Can hardly wait for March Madness!!
