The Giants Win the Super Bowl - Bigger Than Giant - HUGE!!!
Feb 03, 2008 | 7:49PM | report this

I don't know where to begin. How about THE GIANTS WIN!!!! I'm a Jets fan, but I love an underdog - and the Giants were about as big an underdog as you're going to find - a Giant underdog.

We went nuts...and we're Jets fans! My daughter's teacher is a Giants fan...I think he won't give them homework the rest of this week...maybe this month! She even saved him a Giants cupcake.

I don't know what the Giants defense ate for breakfast - whole cows...double mocha espresso protein shakes...double servings of Wheaties - but they should eat that every day next season. They were on FIRE! A D-Fence possessed! That last sack just said it all for me...the Giants backup def. lineman Jay Alford dragged the offensive lineman with him on the way to sack Brady. That's huge. D-Fence with a capital D. A capital FENCE, even.

Manning...what you can say about him...scrambling out of that potential drive-ending sack...getting grabbed by his shirt...chucking it up there...and David Tyree - OMG - catches it on the helmet!!! HIS HELMET!!! Then the toss to the corner to Burress...beautiful.

Manning said in the postgame, "That's when you want the ball in your hand..."

Amen to that, Eli. What a difference from last September. He's developed such a confidence and maturity that has been incredible to see.

They're showing people going nuts in Times Square right now on the local news. They've got the mounted NYPD down there keeping order, but people are going NUTS!

When the Mets won in 1986, I was in college. When they won, the whole campus went nuts...(a NY State univ.).  I called home and held the phone out the window of our dorm...the noise was deafening. It was mayhem. Absolute mayhem.

Parade scheduled tentatively for Tuesday. This would be so worth the trip. I went to the Gulf War ticker tape parade in 1991...very powerful. Um, FoxSports...need coverage? I'd be glad to cover that for you!!! lol

Tough loss for the Patriots. Long way to come without the Super Bowl victory. Hardly a season to hang your head over...but tell that to them.

Congrats New York Giants...Giants fans...commence the mayhem.

Carolyn,
Congrats to your G-men and congrats to my hometown boy Eli. That was one heck of a comback the last 2 min. How Eli got out of that sack was unreal.

What an enjoyable game - all the way through.

I'm not at all agreeing with the "one of the greatest upsets of all time" line that's being touted at every turn. The Giants clearly indicated they were a team to reckon with throughout the playoff season and in the final regular season game. And the Patriots have flirted with disaster at least five time - dodging what should have been a sure loss against Baltimore with smoke 'n mirrors.

This was not a great upset. It was a great game, where the favored team lost.

I'm sorry but THis was the greatest upset! 12 something underdogs going against what is considered the greatest football team by far(18 wins underfeated) if the pat would have won then they are considered the greatest ever but since they lost? a great team that took an el! they are a great team but they lost to a forever team a team that won 11 on the road beat four division leaders , started the season 0-2 and beat an undefeated team in the superbowl.....that NOBODY gave a chance....just super that my team made GIANT STRIDES,,,,,,go g-men see you tues for the parade.........hehe!

That was a great game. Manning deserved to be MVP, and I think the Pats were a little overconfident.

Nice post, Carolyn.

Hi Carolyn, I agree, congratulations to the Giants and all their fans. That defense was ferocious. They were the better team and deserve to celebrate....

I'm still pumped watching the replays of the Great Manning Escape, the Tyree Helmet catch & Burress catch on the fade. What a drive.

Half...I was thinking about you...sorry, man. Tough loss. But what a great season for the Patriots. You had something to cheer about every Sunday of a season...hard to hang your head about that, right?

I'm not hanging my head. It's hard to take when you're team loses in the Super Bowl, but they were so completely outplayed and taken out of their game that they quite simply didn't deserve to win....the Giants were better, not to mention better-prepared....

onesouthernlion, I have to disagree that Manning deserved MVP, the D-line should have been co-MVPs. If it werent for them the Pats could probably have pulled it off. Just look at the last drive the Pats scored on. There was no good pass rush and the Pats ran the field. The escape was amazing but you dont get the MVP award for having one good play. The D-line played solid pretty much the whole game. And no it was not the greatest upset of all time, but Absoulutely it was a GREAT GAME!

As a Cowboy fan it was odd to find myself cheering
so wildly for a division rival. What a terrific display of domination by the Giants front 7. Like others I'm a bit at odds that Eli was MVP. He simply did not show the "bad Eli" side, which I guess was good enough.

To say this was the biggest Super Bowl choke ever (which I've seen printed) is a bit harsh, the Giants deserve credit. It's surely the biggest Super Bowl upset in 39 years and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person than Bill "slime-bag" Belichick.

Bilichick lost this super bowl on this coaching and his failure to condition these guys to win the SB. infact, he lost the game last year for the Pats too, and shall i say a SB too. he needs to make smarter decisions. he's sort of choking here. yep he's a great coach, and losing the season after an 18-0 start is disappointing. but it only takes one more SB win to erase this massive failure he is responsible for. and please chat about this in my website:

yes, this IS the biggest SB choke, and who gives a rat's butt about the Giants and giving them credit. you only get this chance once in a lifetime, and the Pats, THEY LOST THE GAME. the MOST IMPORTANT GAME OF THE SEASON. if they had taken care of business, like they always did, we would be labeling them as the best team ever. but no, THEY LOST IT. i always remember this scene in golf, yes. It was the 1999 British Open. Van de Velde had a 3 stroke lead on the last hole. all he had to do was take care of business, and he wins a major in golf. GREAT. instead he practically maneuvered the greatest collapse in Golf's history. he posted a triple bogey on the last hole (3 over par) and then , getting another chance, lost in the playoffs. After the tournament, they interviewed him, and he had something like this, for a response: "well, it's just a tournament, oh well, it's not the end of the world. i lost, so what". then i could remember Jack Nicklaus, the man who Tiger is currently chasing for the most-majors won at 18, i could remember him saying, "van, you didn't lose just any tournament, you lost the BRITISH OPEN. YOU LOST A MAJOR. this was your time to shine, THIS WAS YOUR ONLY OPPORTUNITY, INSTEAD YOU CHOKED. YOU LOST THE FREAKIN' BRITTTTTISHHHHH OPENNNNNNN". and that response always stuck in my head. same thing with the pats, and i honestly know the pats really tried hard, they showed up, they did, they give it all their best. BUT THEY WERE NOT CONDITIONED RIGHT. they didn't have the killer instincts. they lost the most important game of their season. period. THEIR SEASON WA

THEIR SEASON WAS A FAILUREEEEEE. but i will say this, it only takes ONE SB to erase this terrible season for them. ONLY ONE, regardless of what any1 says, ONLY ONE will do it. if they win the SB next year, hardly anybody will view their franchise as the one that came up short for the chase of perfection. and you know what, i think they WILL win the SB to redeem themselves. i wouldn't be surprised if they pull out 3 or 4 more SB's, b/c they're still one of the greatest franchises in NFL history. remember how many SB's the cowboys won before their dominance in the 90's??? 2.... and they lost 3 also. yet they were america's team. the 49 niners, the steelers, and even so the dolphins and packers, had better results than the Cowboys, from the 70's to 80's. YET THEY WERE AMERICA's TEAM. the pats shouldn't worry about this one blemish. like i said, they will win a couple more SB's, and this season will turn out to be know as the motivating factor for the Pat's next 3 or 4 SB wins. period...

The Great Escape poster is really nicely done. Carrying that analogy one step further, I guess Tom Brady is back in the cooler bouncing a football off the walls.

Well Mr. Busy Addict, you told the truth. The PATS lost the biggest game of the season. Oh well, too bad, so bad. All athletes know that you have to work under pressure and come through in the big games. Regrettably for you, the Giants did. Its cut and dry. We could hypothesize about this all night, but the ending result is Giants 17-14 Baby!!!!!!!

Tig53- You make some valid points about the NY D-line. Brady was on his back half the game. I stand corrected.
