Luke DeCock over at Lord Stanley’s Blog at newsobserver.com states the Ottawa Senators are apparently looking for some help to fill in some of the holes on their blue line. He has a link to an article about several players the Senators are looking over at this time. One of those players is supposedly Carolina Defenseman Frank Kaberle. The article in the Ottawa Sun states the following:
“While Tampa's Dan Boyle and Anaheim's Mathieu Schneider are expensive options, Carolina defenceman Frantisek Kaberle is being dangled by the Hurricanes and is scheduled to earn a reasonable $2.2 million (all terms US) a season for the next two years. Carolina would want a winger in return. There is a history of deals between the Senators and Hurricanes -- although the Joe Corvo and Patrick Eaves trade for Cory Stillman and Mike Commodore at the NHL trade deadline didn't work out very well for Ottawa.”
After an awesome year in 2005-2006, the Carolina Hurricanes re-signed Kaberle to a four year contract paying him $2,200,000 per season through 2009-10. The problem is the numbers he put up during the 2005-2006 season have all but disappeared. Frank had shoulder surgery after the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2006 and only played in 27 games during the 2006-2007 season scoring 2 goals and logging 6 assists for 8 points. Not a lot for $2,200,000. During this past season, he played in 80 games and got 22 assists and no goals on 89 shots. He was also a +/- -4 and logged 30 penalties in minutes… again, not a lot for the money. With the Canes over budget, it would help if they could move someone to relieve that pressure.
I guess it's easy to tell this blog is about the Carolina Hurricanes. A team that I have watched since before they arrived in Raleigh in 1999. A team that I have supported and had season tickets to their games since January 2000. A team that struggled in their first season in Raleigh and then went to the Stanley Cup finals in 2002 only to fall to 30th in the NHL in 2003. A team that won the Stanley Cup in 2006 and one that is on a roller coaster ride this year. This blog is about the Canes, the red, white, and black. This one is for the rabid fans (aka/Caniacs) who want to keep up with the Carolina Hurricanes and believe in their team no matter what. Go Canes because the CaniacD will be there win or lose. Remember, I was there when no one else was.
