Half time
Jun 24, 2006 | 12:59PM | report this

This is a game.

Mexico came out flying and can consider themselves unlucky not to be leading. It took Argentina six minutes to get into the Mexican half and they scored. It was a bad mistake by Borgetti as he got caught on wrong side of Crespo.

Riquelme is very quite. Mexican defense is compact and making it very difficult for Argentina to create space. As the game moves into the last twenty minutes it might be more difficult to keep it that tight.

Morales is doing a great job of stretching the Argentine back four. Heinze’s blunder nearly cost Argentina right on half-time.

Pardo off for Torrado. Pardo is so important to the Mexican set-up that it will be interesting to see how it affects the Mexican performance in the second half.

I wonder if we will see a change or two from Peckerman - Tevez is the obvious choice.

I hope I don’t hex him but I think the referee Busacca is having a good game. He got it right giving Heinze a yellow card as Scaloni was in line with Heinze and could have got across.

Mexico 0-0 Angola
Jun 16, 2006 | 1:59PM | report this

Angola played for 90 minutes with passion and agression.

Mexico controlled the majority of the game but they were let down by sloppy passing.

Bravo and Franco did not lead the line effectively in the way that Borgetti does.

Only Mexican fans could begrudge Angola a first ever point at the World Cup Finals.

Man of the Match - Joao Ricardo controlled his penalty area and pulled off a couple of excellent saves.

Second half
Jun 11, 2006 | 10:26AM | report this

Ricardo Lavople is clearly not unhappy about the first half performance - Perez and Zinha are on for Franco and Torrado.

Borgetti is on the limp and Fonseca comes in as Lavolpe does a Mourinho and uses his entire bench before an hour on the clock.

Coming up to the hour mark and Mexico are beginning to pin Iran back. It occurs to me that not only are the officials doing a fine job in the games so far but the by in large the players have also been on their best behaviour.

Mexico is getting better width this half as Iran's defenders pinch in to support the centre backs.
