The Times says that Wenger has been given more transfer money than he says he needs this summer.

Alan Campbell describes an outbreak of sanity at Tynecastle. Unfortunately for Hearts' fans it didn't help them to qualify for the UEFA Cup as Aberdeen ensured their spot on the final day of the Scottish season.

Gabriele Marcotti on Milan’s revival.

Joe Lovejoy looks at the Champions League Final.

For those who were wondering why Milan had points deducted.

Amy Lawrence takes a look at the player who is the heart of Milan - Gennaro Gattuso.

Ian Bell on the pressure of football management.

Another excellent article by Eastern European football expert Jonathan Wilson. The most dangerous job in football.

Ian Hawkey takes a look at Real Madrid’s run at the 2007 La Liga title.

Nominations for game of the week and the dog of the week (or should I just assume that the Cup Final wil be a unanimous selection for the latter?)

Another packed weekend of action with league titles decided, the Dutch Cup going to Ajax after an extended penalty shoot out, relegation fights continuing across Europe and Glenn Roeder resigning his position at Newcastle.

Premiership is suing YouTube over copyright infringement.

Matt Scott on the manouveres by Leeds United.

James Lawton chimes in on the West Ham ruling.

Meanwhile West Ham may find that they are sued into oblivion.

But Ian Bell contends that the likes of Wigan are missing the point.

On Friday’s FSR we mentioned that FIFA/UEFA might not take of any civil court action by Premiership clubs against West Ham to well.

Amy Lawrence looks at how the Premiership has changed as it reaches 1,000 games. Based on 380 games being played each year I can't work out where the number 1,000 comes into it. On the other hand one of the responses that lists the Premiership nightmare eleven is fun to consider. Who would be in your nightmare eleven for the 2006/07 season and you might also want to select a manager?

Philip Cornwall looks at the value of the Premiership at birth.

Patrick Barclay looks at Manchester United on what turned out to be the eve of their ninth Premiership title.

Guy Hodgson’s review of the City – United derby is worth reading for the first three paragraphs alone.

And remember to nominate your dogs and stars from this week’s televised games.

Stephen Brunt is Canada's best sportswriter by a considerable length. He is also one of the few Canadians in the mainstream media that knows and understands the game. Here is a piece he did just prior to Toronto FC's debut on Saturday against Chivas. Brunt also appears regularly on radio with Canada's version of Jim Rome - a man called Bob McCowan. However, to date no one has asked McCowan to do anything that  would be deemed illegal in some US states.

A nostalgia piece in the Dundee Evening Telegraph and a look at a much younger yours truly.

Ian Bell senses that the trouble we have seen this season at Champions League and UEFA Cup matches has the game, one more, on an ugly path.

Jonathon Northcott on a player who may turn out to be one of the bargains of this season.

Patrick Barclay says that it is “Athens or bust” for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.

Antonio Rattin has been invited to the opening of New Wembley.

An Iranian movie about a group of women willing to sacrifice a lot in an attempt to watch a game of football.

It was a very good weekend of football. The Premiership tightened at both ends. Real Madrid drew closer to Spanish leaders after Barcelonma lost and Sevilla drew. Valencia opted to rest players before the Champions League second leg and that helped Athletic Bilbao out the bottom three in La Liga.

The top four in Germany all won but Borussia Monchengladbach seem to be running of of games at the other end of the table.

MLS got underway and I took in the Colorado Rapids - DC United and Chivas - Toronto FC matches.

Coming up this week - Monday league games in England, plus Champions League and UEFA Cup between Tuesday and Thursday. And finally in anticipation of a couple of questions (a) no Arsenal should not fire Arene Wenger, (b) Arsenal will not sell Thierry Henry this summer and (c) I still believe Arsenal will finish no lower than fourth in the Premiership this season!!

And finally, finally - I've noticed some new names posting comments the last couple of weeks - welcome to all of you and thank you to all the regular contributors and readers.

David Conn on the cost of watching a Premiership game in England.

David Lacey on the need for the Premiership to attract young fans to their games.

The Observer claims that Manchester United and Chelsea are intent on holding the line on wages at a paltry $200K a week.

….although it looks as if it doesn’t apply to John Terry.

Amy Lawrence on Dimitar Berbatov – perhaps the best newcomer to the Premiership this season.

Rob Hughes claims that “there is no option for Arsenal other than Wenger’s way”.

And Gabriele Marcotti thinks that Arsenal should be applauded rather than criticized.

Ian Bell describes a very unique player and man – Henrik Larsson.

We start off with an array of articles.

Apparently British bookies took a hiding as little Forfar of the Scottish League was forced to play Peterhead despite being unable to field a fully fit first eleven - Neil White explains.

A Ronald Atkin profile of Bobby Convey while Jon West has an interview with hisUSA and Reading teamate Marcus Hahnemann.

Ian Bell compares and contrasts the managerial careers of two of the best ever - Bill Shankly who died 25 years ago last week and Arsene Wenger who has just celebrated a decade in charge of Arsenal.

Henry Winter suggests that the tax man should not be far behind the release of the Stevens Report today (Monday October 2).

Paul Wilson believes that Sepp Blatter has not gone far enough and the answer is that games should be decided by naked penalty shootouts.

Erik Kirschbaum on the debut of a documentary focusing on the German team’s build-up and participation in this summer’s World Cup.

It was a bad weekend for officials what with the phantom Reina handball for Liverpool against Bolton, Claude Makelele jumping Juan Pablo Angel as he broke free and Didier Zokora’s conning of the referee in the Spurs – Portsmouth game.

In Serie A the two Milan teams drew – when are Milan going to start scoring some goals and when will Inter manage to keep eleven players on park. It is odd that the players Inter have had red-carded are all new arrivals.

No shortage of items to debate.

And by the way Fleetwood beat Goole 4-2 to progress to the next round of the FA Cup.
