Craigy_f –1. Many see the CL in the last few years as a tale of PL dominance. It's hardly that in the UEFA Cup. How to you explain the difference in the two comps for PL teams (or other leagues) in the last three odd years. 2. Do you like the playoffs? 3. The last noise the Liverpool Supporters Who Want To Buy Liverpool made was about having the clout to actually have a dialogue with Hillette and Gicks. Apparently they wanted to talk ' intentions'. Will this happen? 4. Will Ince be given a bigger club or stick with much moved Wimbledon? 5. Tevez's stock must have gone up with that late goal at Blackburn?
6. Gimme your top five footballing flops this weekend, please. 7. What; off what goes on on the pitch; gets your goat when watching football. 8. Who will finish fifth? (In the PL, Serie A and La Liga) 9. Scottish Managers seem to do well darn sarf, why do you think that is?
Bobby –1. Many would seem to have a very poor grasp of what constitutes dominance. One win this decade hardly represents dominance.
2. Yes.
3. Until they have money in the bank they are trying to bluff their way in the door. There is a large chasm between fans expressing a willingness to put money up and actually writing the cheque. There again 100,000 of them could borrow the money from the bank which is no more ridiculous than what Hicks and Gillett pulled off.
(Couldn't resist the notion that the ESPN commentator missed a golden opportunity at the end of the game today when the cameras panned over to Hicks. The comments was something like "owner Tom Hicks must now take his Liverpool team to Stamford Bridge next week..." Should it not have been "owner Tom Hicks must now take his half of the Liverpool team to Stamford Bridge next week..."
4. There are always teams on the lookout for a savior so I cannot see Ince staying with MK Dons much longer. He could take a shorter route to the Championship I am sure.
5. Three late equalizers doesn’t hurt but I think that after what he showed for WHU late last season there are not too many people surprised.
6. You get 1 and 1 a – Clyde losing to Hamilton and Queen of the South beating Dundee.
7. What?
8. Villa, Milan, Racing Santander.
9. If I knew sarf meant then I might be able to answer.
Gorn – 1. Your opinion on whether Fake Ronaldo's PK technique is caution-worthy/unsporting? Seems to me that it's not much, if at all, different than if he just took a shorter run-up. Is there another line of thinking? 2. What sources do you use to do yer research (ie: top away goal scorer in BPL in 07-08, etc.)? Any links appreciated! 3. By how many goals will LFC beat Chelsea in both legs of the CL semi? 4. There appears to be a few quality strikers available this summer (Berbatov, Huntelaar, Villa, Henry, Crouch & hell even Ronaldinho). Do you think this will create a bit of a market correction in transfer prices? Or will this be the priciest market in years? I know you don't like to speculate on things like specific transfers, just wondering yer general feeling on what you anticipate happening, especially w/so many top teams rumoured to be changing managers.... 5. Do you think MLS needs a marquee team or 3 to stimulate rivalries/dynasties like the BPL has? Not advocating a class system exactly, but maybe more along the lines of brand development & recognition. Beckham helps, but if his team is pants, it doesn't help MLS. Further, MLS seems not yet able to simply throw $ at players to solve the problem like NASL did.
Maybe MLS would be served by having more than one team in a big city like NY to create a derby. Thoughts?
6. Dis/agree that there are at most 3 Canadian cities than can support an MLS team?
Bobby – 1. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever.
2. I hunt through stats sites. There is not one that has everything and in some cases the information doesn’t seem to exist. Most of the time it is a case of getting raw information and adding things up. I don’t think I use any sites that I or others haven’t referenced before; BBC, Fox, Telegraph, Soccerbot (probably my favourite), soccerbase.com, premiersoccerstats, RSSSF, channel 4 are the normal haunts. I also buy the European Book of Football each year which contains a statistical recap of every league in Europe plus international games.
3. Leading the witness – can’t have that. And do you now wish to rephrase the question after today?
4. Prices aren’t necessarily dependent on supply but are more influenced by money in the system. In the last few years that has been Premier League money and there is no indication that the money will dry up. I would also suggest that managers are not looking for strikers per se they are looking for specific types of strikers depending on their needs.
Berbatov is going to give you imagination, silky skills, and the ability to lead the line. Crouch is going to provide you with a lethal five yard pass back towards his own goal and ….come to think of it how many goals has your list of quality strikers actually scored this season?
Huntelaar 34 goals – we know from experience that goals in the Dutch league do not necessarily translate into goals in bigger leagues and he his coming up on 25 years old and nobody has made a real move for him yet. Wonder why? Berbatov 15 goals but also offers more. After that there have not been many goals from the others.
5. Use the words “brand development” and you are not off to a very good start. Rivalries do not come from plunking a team or two down in the same city. They come from years of games, incidents and shared history.
Rivalries cannot be manufactured and it is not just about location. After all if your theory was right we would be watching the Greater London League every week. One more thing – the NASL did not solve any problems by throwing money at them; they just caused more problems.
6. Vancouver I have no doubt. Montreal is a strange market and I don’t know enough about it. The others - not a hope of being considered let alone being given a chance. It is after all an US league.
Ursusarctos - "Should the Moscow [CL] final turn out to be an all-English affair this season, there will be plenty of talk about the Premier League being the best in the world. It isn't. Torres is right [that La Liga is tougher than the Premier League because matches are more competitive all the way down the league, and that English football is really all about the top four.]"
Yes. And it is too bad.
Do you agree with Wilson's (and Torres') analysis?
How would you rate Serie A? Does it resemble the PL, in terms of the quality being consistently concentrated among the top (6 or so?) teams, or is it more similar to Spain?
Leagues appear to tend to develop a quasi-permanent group of "haves", with the quality dropping off rapidly after-- Scotland's Old Firm and Portugal's Big Three are other examples.
Which major leagues would you consider to have the most turnover amongst the top group of teams, and the most competitive depth, over time (recent decades)-- and which the least? What factors might be responsible for differences between leagues?
Or does the competitive depth of leagues go in cycles, with England at the lower end of the scale and Spain at the higher at this point in time (and Scotland doing its own thing)?
If so, will increasing financial rewards, such as CL prize money, tend to fix "elite" teams in place, or are there contrary factors that might help to promote intra-league competitiveness?
Bobby – I don’t care one way or another. You may as well argue about the greatest ever heavyweight boxer. At the end of the day it is what excites and engages you – it has nothing to do with a subjective definition of best.
(I notice another MLS is #### discussion has broken out. We have been around this one before but someone has yet to tell me what constitutes great football that they will watch and bad football that they won’t. Fans relate through building allegiances and they have no idea whether or not they will enjoy a game or will want to throw up when they pay their money or sit down in front of a TV. There is no such thing as all games in X league good; all games in Y league bad. When fans dismiss a league as being rubbish what they mean is they don’t relate to it. It has nothing to do with the standard of play even though they make it out to be.)
In terms of parity England use to be the exception in that there were a number of clubs that had a real chance of picking up silverware every season. The advent of the Premiership killed that extended era and the Premiership took on the same character as Europe’s other main leagues.
Take a look at the teams who have won leagues and cups in each country – it will closely follow the 80/20 rule. Eighty per cent of the silverware will have been won by 20% of the teams. The difference between success and failure long tern in soccer is the same as in business – the access to capital.
No guarantee of success but if you don’t have access to money through a large fan base (which normally means a team from a large city) you cannot compete in the long term. It works the same for leagues – that is why countries with large populations generally have better teams and more of them.
There are a couple of exceptions but they are exceptions, not the rule.
I haven’t done the research but my guess is that the French league has probably enjoyed the broadest range of winning sides until Lyon started their domination.
The Champions League is installing or in some cases ingraining what could become a perpetual cycle of relative success for a relatively small number of clubs. Win their league and make it to the CL group stage generates money that their domestic rivals do not have access to; spend the money to improve the squad and qualify for Europe again etc etc.
Rosenborg had it down to an art for over a decade. Platini’s initiative to extend places in the group stage to more countries is in theory good and noble but it may also lead to a greater distortion at the domestic level.
MasMaz - I assume that tonight you will give us your opinion about Rooney being given free reign to do whatever he wants. If not I'd like to hear it.
Bobby – I can’t say that I have noticed any difference in the way that Ferguson is playing Rooney. He has been granted a lot of freedom all season from what I can see.
However, if you are trying to make some ridiculous comparison with Mascherano’s sending off against United then you will have to make a better case. If you can show me an example of Rooney running 40 yards to get in the referee’s face when he has already been given a yellow card and had no involvement in the incident then you might have a case – oh and your teammate has just been carded for yapping at the referee. Otherwise you might want to wait until you have a more credible comparison.
Neophyte - Did you see the Toronto FC/ Real Salt Lake match? It looked like the match ended with only one minute of injury time instead of the three minutes posted by the 4th official. Home cooking or poor clock management and communication from the center to the 4th official?
Bobby – You hit a sore spot. I opted to watch the Blackburn game, tape TFC, go out for the first kick about of the new season and then come home and watch three MLS games. Tape malfunction on the TFC game so the only part I saw was when I switched over at half time in the Blackburn match. I did catch the other two MLS games though.
Maybe the 4th official did as good a job programming his board as I did programming my tape machine!
Aldoray - Football clubs have a Manager and Assistant Manager and coaches. What are the roles each of them play? Does the manager give the overall plan and then the assistant and the coaches carry it out or is the manager always hands on with the squad and everybody else is just peripheral. Or is it different for every club.
Bobby – Unfortunately the answer is the old standby – it depends. Some mangers are out there with the squad every day, some occasionally and others hardly at all. I remember reading a feature on Martin O’Neill during his Celtic days and his view was that a manager can maximize his impact if he limits his contact with the players.
His theory was that with a lot of daily contact the messages that the manager wants to communicate are blunted and the motivational effect is dampened. I can only assume he still feels the same way.
There is a certain irony because that is a view from many years ago. Prior to Busby, Shankly, Stein etc. popularizing the idea of the “Tracksuit Manager” the preparation was left to a coach (rarely coaches!) and the manager would come in on game days to give the team talk. Otherwise he dealt with other things during the week.
JayAlves - Arsenal fans can sleep easy knowing Usmanov /=/ Abramovich from a money standpoint.
Last time I checked Usmanov was worth 1/3 or 1/4 of Abramovich and considering how Arsenals profits are going might become an unrealistic team for him to buy assuming the board keep entering no sale agreements.
They floated this theory on WSD not long ago but they were off the mark on one point. They said maybe the board is being cheap on purpose to keep growing the club financially so they can’t be taken over. Thing is though the board on several occasions have dropped the huge money figures that Wenger has if he wants so you could hardly accuse them of being cheap.
Bobby – I don’t think that theory stands up. First off being debt free and enjoying the relative luxury of a fully paid for stadium did not save Manchester United from a highly leverage buy out from the Glazers. The same would hold true for an Arsenal club that is in a poorer position than United were because it still carries a huge stadium debt.
A case could be made that by improving the net financial position (not spending money) Arsenal are actually making the club a more desirable takeover target rather than turning the opportunists off. Companies that enjoy great balance sheets and hoard gobs of cash are often bigger and better targets for raiders than companies with huge debts.
Think about it from a lenders point of view and what would give you greater security – your money to pay off someone else’s debt or go towards buying cash generating assets with a pile of cash already sitting there?
bobby coming from montreal i can tell you it would be great for the mls to have a team here. Football is huge here, and even if most people, like me, are international, a lot would come and watch a team play in the MLs, especially if the tickets were cheaper than those in europe. Sports fan here want another team apart from hockey, and they have the stadium (olympic stadium), which would be ideal to start renovating it.
I was going to defend my comment until I realized something. Usmanov is poor when compared to Abramovich but Glazer is poor compared to Usmanov and Hicks and Gillette are even poorer in comparison. All this according to Forbes.
So the whole theory that Arsenal could outpace the wealth of potential suitors is bogus but being in good financial position and not needing the supposed benefits of a big time owner is definitely helping the board re-enter no sale agreements. One could make the argument that not being in financial trouble and having more than enough money to spend especially under a manager like Wenger gives them no reason to go find a rich suitor. With no reason for money from outside it is actually in the boards best interest to enter no sale clauses each year while the value of their club rises.
Its also too bad the financial side of these clubs are not more transparent. I would love to pick apart exactly what kind of debt they are carrying, the wages the pay out and so on. The only clubs IMO that are really untouchable right now on the financial side are Arsenal under Wenger because he refuses to buy for the sake of buying or be held hostage in the market and refuses to match the super club wages because he knows how that would spread in the dressing room. The latter will be much harder to hold up in the long run but thats another story (is happening now with Flamini). The other club is obviously Chelsea because Roman is actually that damn rich he could buy any and every player and pay them what they want.

Nuff said really.
It's why I don't open my gob and sound off on La Liga!
You have to be able to take the MLS on it's own merits and not comparatively to appreciate it.
Sure it's not the PL or Serie A. Then neither is the Football League or Serie B and I've been watching and enjoying those for years now.

re: my MLS question: I was presenting no theory; I was just throwing ideas out. So by yer responses to me & Ursus, I take it you feel MLS is doing just dandy? Everyone but TheScore & FSW seem to think it has real flaws....
Also, I meant to say "MLS seems not yet able to simply throw $ for players at the problem like NASL did." I was hardly suggesting the MLS use a defunct league as an example of financial nous. Mea culpa
"Sports fan [in Montreal] want another team apart from hockey, and they have the stadium (olympic stadium), which would be ideal to start renovating it."
Huh? Forgotten the (hugely popular) Allouettes? As for Olympic stadium-- it is terrible. Did you go to the U20s last year? I brought the kids (Brazil-Korea), and it reminded me how that soulless bowl just swallows sound-- and don't get me started on the carpet ...
In any case, why not just use the brand new soccer-specific Saputo stadium next door to the Big O? Built for the Impact, but would be great for an MLS team.
The Impact, playing in the USL, have averaged 10,000+/ match attendance figures in recent years (selling out their old, smaller stadium), have daily visibility in the local sports media, and have core groups of diehard supporters. MLS could build on that from day one.
If it was well managed, and played in a good stadium like Saputo, MLS soccer in Montreal would be HUGE. And just wait for the TFC - Montreal derbies ...

"Ursus:
GG is under no obligation to sell- so as long as TH holds a pre-emptive right, there is no transaction (as we've seen)
Please explain."
My reply was to your post: "I'm just saying that I don't understand how GG says he'll *never* sell to Hicks. How can he assert this if there's a 1st refusal? It's out of his hands the instant he accepts an offer AFAICT"
GG is under no obligation to sell his interest in LFC. His only obligation-- assuming a TH pre-emptive right-- is to offer it first to TH per the terms of the right, if and only if he finalizes a sales deal with someone else.
So my point was simply that when GG says he will "never" sell to TH, that assertion will hold so long as GG does nothing to trigger TH's pre-emptive rights-- i.e., by not consummating the D.I.C. deal. So the "never" position necessarily implies no sale at all so long as a TH pre-emptive right is in force (or until "never" becomes "let me get out of here with whatever value I can salvage from the wreck of this investment", if the stand-off continues too long ...), which has been the observable fact.
"Seems to me the most logical interpretation, playing along w/yer assertion of what the contract must look like, is that TH has the opportunity to buy GG's shares @ D.I.C. prices. If TH thinks he can buy it, then roasting Parry and airing out GG/Parry's Machavellian orchestrations makes way more sense."
That is one option I've considered as well-- although I would not go so far as to necessarily assume "that TH has the opportunity to buy GG's shares @ D.I.C. prices." The exercise of the pre-emptive right could be at some pre-defined discount to the offer price, or be subject to ceilings or other protections, to prevent a deep-pocket buyer from rendering the right effectively nugatory by over-paying.
The point is that the right exercise conditions and price (whatever they are) seem to clearly be a real stretch for TH (given his ongoing search for financing), yet not entirely beyond his reach in theory (thus GG's refusal to complete the deal with D.I.C., and risk triggering the application of the right).
Other options are that TH knows he cannot afford to exercise the rights, but is trying to bluff GG to prevent the D.I.C. sale, in light of GG's "never" comments (since TH knows that D.I.C. will likely be able to squeeze him out if their GG purchase goes through)-- or TH is trying to work D.I.C., by portraying their potential ally RP as untrustworthy, to favour him to remain as a partner with D.I.C. in some form after a GG buyout. Both do seem a stretch, I admit, but who knows?

Liverfools I'm not going to lie but I don't feel bad for you...and you know why.
Anyway I told the guys that we where watching the game with that in that 2nd half the right side of the liverfool defs was constantly been breached and Benintez should ve' taken Kuyt out and put a more def. player on that side. The cross that Riise BRILLIANTLY put behind his own net came from that side. Why in God's name did he do a diving header I'm still trying to figure it out.
Torres missed three glorious chances if Ade had missed even one of those we would all be buring him!!! WONDER WHY??????
As for Rooney never getting a red for insulting the ref... Him, Gerrald and Terry can slap the ref and still not get a red in the EPL.
You don't seriously believe that?! If I didn't know better, I'd say you actually bought that little dog and pony show TH served up to Sky Sports ... (no, I do not think you were so taken).
I agree with you about the Rangers' home opener-- if he was at LFC and missed that, he would be in trouble at home in Texas ... which is where his priorities really are ...
"I just want someone to convince me that D.I.C. offers less "no's" than TH, and I'm not seeing it...
Compared to [Hicks] who's traipising around the world trying to drum up investors so he can move the team forward and build a stadium."
Without comparing the two, I've never said that D.I.C. were the second coming (an attribution with which they might quibble, come to think of it ...). It just so happens that they are the only serious alternate game in town.
As for Hicks: he (and GG) promised not to pull a Glazer-- and they did (however much they tried to disguise it). Now he promises to remove the non-operating debt, and pay for the stadium without further debt burdens on the club ... does he really expect people to fall for that a second time?
TH may be the victim of bad luck in his timing, but he has no chance of securing the necessary backing to do as he said in current conditions (even giving him the benefit of the doubt for his intentions)-- if it was possible, the Duo would have done so in early 2007, when credit market conditions were far better than today (assuming they ever meant to honour their promises).
But-- whatever their faults-- when D.I.C. say that they will wipe the club free of all the Duo's debt, we at least know they are capable of doing so (whatever their actual intentions). That is one very large less "no" than TH, given the incalculable damage that can result from screwing up the club's financial position (cue mandatory Leeds United reference here ...).
As for non-financial matters: do you really see D.I.C. owners being worse than the circus this year? Given his personality and communications failures so far, do you think a TH sole-ownership would ever follow even a rough, Texas-style version of the LFC way-- or would we be fated to eternal media shows, intemperate public comments, and lashing out at anyone perceived to be questioning his judgement?
You already claimed to have proven me wrong-- when I asked for examples, you ducked out of sight.
So I'll ask again-- when have you proven me wrong?
Facts, LGB ...
""You called my bluff...". Look you're wrong."
***sigh***
Do you ever understand something the first time, without having it explained to you ...?
My "bluff" joke to gorn was because I had to explain my reasoning at length for my point to hold up, instead of merely "bluffing" with a bald statement.
You should try it. You think I am wrong about the pre-emption clause. Fine: break down my arguments to gorn about the evidence for the pre-emption clause (the 2 "bluff" posts: April 21 @ 10:08AM + 10:10AM), and show how my reasons are wrong.
Can you do it, or was "you're wrong" all you are capable of ...?
"Just stop talking and stop posting."
Tantrums will get you nowhere, little boy. Now go to your room and think about what you've done wrong ...

RIISE!!! what a cracking goal. I would have liked to see them keep playing that game. someone please explain to me how the two legs system is better than a one-off. That was destined to be an epic, now we will have 40 minutes of kick around. At this stage of the tournament, just set the date and tell the boys what time to show up and get it over with.
Ursus: GG is under no obligation to sell his interest in LFC. His only obligation-- assuming a TH pre-emptive right-- is to offer it first to TH per the terms of the right, if and only if he finalizes a sales deal with someone else. So my point was simply that when GG says he will "never" sell to TH, that assertion will hold so long as GG does nothing to trigger TH's pre-emptive rights-- i.e., by not consummating the D.I.C. deal.
This is where I get lost; yer suggesting that TH is being offered shares but not allowed to buy them. If GG really wanted to move the shares to anyone but TH then surely he'da done it already when TH couldn't gather up the capital. But it seems clear that there's a timeline actively in place, so surely those shares must be available to TH now. I'm asking how can the pre-emptive rights be activated w/o an offer and also w/o TH able to buy?
Obviously IANAL, but I'm related to one, play poker weekly w/another, and I've stayed at a Holiday Express. I know *some* things. (c:
-- The point is that the right exercise conditions and price... seem to clearly be a real stretch for TH ... yet not entirely beyond his reach in theory
Agreed
-- Other options are... TH... cannot afford to exercise the rights, but is trying to bluff GG... or TH is trying to work D.I.C., by portraying their potential ally RP as untrustworthy.
Agreed
I'd say you actually bought that little dog and pony show
I already admitted I might be a little dense or delusional. It was spin, but it's the only thing that's cleared up anything AFAIC. It also explains GG's eagerness to sell (ie: before payments are due) when 1 year ago he was outbidding ####(!). I have no reason to doubt TH; he's got lots of $ and I doubt he knew anything aboot Euro football until GG approached him.
--
As for Hicks: he (and GG) promised not to pull a Glazer... Now he promises to remove the non-operating debt, and pay for the stadium without further debt burdens on the club ... does he really expect people to fall for that a second time?
I'd argue it's the first. TH asserts GG was the impetus for that originally.
Put another way: the only evidence of a 'lie' from TH is the debt/stadium - if it's true he'da preferred not to have leveraged like that, he's been nothing but honest (if exceedingly callous) & the house of cards GG/RP/#### built in the press comes down. No? Again, he didn't do himself any favours w/Klinsmann revelation, but that wasn't his idea either & he was getting scapegoated
As for non-financial matters: do you really see D.I.C. owners being worse than the circus this year? ...[D]o you think a TH sole-ownership would ever follow even a rough, Texas-style version of the LFC way-- or would we be fated to eternal media shows, intemperate public comments, and lashing out at anyone perceived to be questioning his judgement?
I have no reason to think #### will deal w/LFC affairs any differently than they've handled the LFC purchase. Isn't that the sensible attitude? What's it going to be like when #### is asked to cough up £50m for transfers this summer? How many desks does the request cross? How much 'due diligence' will be done? How many suits like RP will be installed?
Wouldn't you say #### mishandled their attempt to purchase LFC as badly as TH, only in a completely different way? Let's face it; if not for ####'s huge pockets & TH/GG gong show, Reds would *not* be running w/open arms. And I'm not even talking aboot Dubai & their human rights issues, among other things
I think TH would secure Rafa, make avail whatever kitty he could & leave football to Rafa & a better suit than RP (think Dein). That works for me! YMMV
--
Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud. I wouldn't buy compost from any of them, but now when I sit back & collate & process, having heard more of the story, I think I've changed horses. Mebbe a 4th will show up whom we can all agree on. Bottom line in all of this (& honestly, I couldn't believe it when I 1st heard that that's what GG & TH did): Don't go 50/50 in *anything* w/*anyone*
When did this become a forum for all things Liverpool? Who gives a toss about a fourth place team in the league, one that is out of the FA Cup, and soon to be out of the CL? I guess asking Scousers to SHUT THE HELL UP, is too much an ask...
I think Ursus was saying that he was "bluffing with the best hand." We've all been listening to the cacophony aboot LFC's purchase & agreements, and I just wondered what, if anything, he'd seen in legal/financial papers/docs. If he's presented with a better explanation, I'm sure he'd "lay his hand down." Just don't expect me to be dealt it. (c;
Not that I have a horse in yer ongoing debate or anything, I just think, in this particular instance, yer assigning to hypocrisy what's easily explained by attempted humour. Happens to me all the time. Call it "gorn's Mach 4" (c:

What sort of organization does Valencia have,
1-1 is probably the best result that neutrals could have hoped for at Anfield. It will force Liverpool to try to score, which should make for an excellent match.
For much the same reasons, I hope Barcelona can nick an early goal, which should greatly improve the spectacle at the Nou Camp.
My biggest question, though, is what kind of lineup does Grant put out on Saturday morning knowing that he has a much better shot of advancing against Liverpool? Will we see Chelsea B and a concession of the Premiership?
Oh and I'm firmly with Maz and LGB on the issue of Sweary Wayne the diving plonker (thanks craigy for that excellent noun).
What's even funnier, as pointed out by F365's ever-excellent Mediawatch, is how Rooney calls out "foreigners" on the issue on his personal website.
So he's not just a diver and a plonker, but a hypocrite, too.

Ferguson will pick the right side to grind out a result here. That tough 451 he usues in Europe away still has the threat of Ronaldo (does he still have to score in all the big games?)
It'll be Man U's ability to hold and break with pace and power that will get them the draw.

So come on then, contribute something of your own! Have you got an opinion on the game tonight?

You may have a point lah! LFC was dancing with D_IC then ditched them like a beer goggle dog for twoyanks
Now the twoyanks haven't turned out quite what they initially seemed and D_IC is on for a dance again.
What was it that turned LFC away from fat wallet D_IC and onto twoyanks?
Who was responsible for that change of partners.
Put plainly it seems to smell a touch like Grimsby and fat brown paper envelopes stuffed with cash.
With all the shennanigans above him it won't be a suprise if rafa just thinks "fu_ck this" and walks, especially if he wins the CL.
Will it cost a lot to axe him and what is his contract currently?

Interesting take from Lineker on the Frecnhman's tenure at Barca. On Aunty's football pages.
Otherwise we won't read the stuff you link to, cut and paste is just too tedious!
HAPPY ST GEORGE'S DAY !

MY TRIBE IS MULTICUTURAL AND TODAY WILL ALL BE WEARING RED ROSES!
I am sick and tired of Drogba,s tactics this guy is an exceptional footballer one of the best srikers around but for some reason this muppet keeps rolling around on the ground like the whole liverpool team has taking him into a back alley and kicked the #### out of him. Gimme a break. It is so obvious that he is faking and yet still he is not booked for it. the amount of times the medics have to come out to him with stretchers and the like and then all of a sudden he gets up like nothing even happened, what an absolute tw.at.
I seriously believe Avram grant is intimidated by drogba. I say this because he is afraid to play anelka. Yesterday drogba was not making much of an impact. Carragher was all over him. That game was suited for anelka but yet still he brings on Anelka with four minutes left. what a joke, it was because of Anelka lurking in the area that pressured Riise- the red haired reindeer into making that mistake. Grant is obviously scared to bench drogba. Anyway I am not complaining if anelka was playing the result could have been worse.
LGB - If you think shouting something at a referee from a distance as oppossed to running 40 yards to get in his face and do it is the same thing then good luck to you. Go try it the next time you play and see what happens. Or even better see what it is like on the receiving end and tell us that it is the same thing.
Craigy,
This might be a little late...but my comment on the 4-2-3-1 was tongue n cheeck. I've seen Carsley play and he is a no nonsense def. midfielder. Greavesen, everytime I see him play seems like he's on the verge of violence. They're both bald and both aggressive...EFC still needs more creativity and possesion through the middle though...Pinnear was solid signing and will help, not enough however. Happy St. George day sounds like a can't miss night at your home tonight. I'm just sorry I won't get a chance at those dog bollocks.(?)
I think you're right about Utd's 4-5-1. I hate it when I see it rolled out but it is effective. Whatever gets the win.
Craigy_f - 7. The very straight forward infringements that are rarely called such as encroachment on penalty kicks. I thought the idea of moving the ball forward when a free kick was purposely delayed was a good rule to impose but nothing came of that. I find late tactical substitutions annoying.
9. Ironically as a nation Scotland is more prone to extreme emotions than most but as individuals they are generally pretty level which might be a bonus in a management job. I also think there is a bit in our DNA that pushes us to constantly strive to get better because we never think we are good enough. There is also the role model thing – Scotland has produced some legendary coaches and is proud of them. I still think that the English inherently don’t trust coaches and believe that grit, determination and god-given talent is all that is needed. England may have invented the game but it was the Scots that were the first to see the really beauty in the game and developed the passing game while those south of the border were happy to punt it high and far.
6. It means there were only two.
Bobby:
I have to agree with you than Milan will finish fifth in the Serie A this season.
To get to fourth, (1) Fiorentina would have to drop points in two of their last four matches, which I think are, Sampdoria next, then three teams neck deep in the relegation battle: Parma, Torina, Cagliari (I think). AND, (2) Milan would have to come up with 4 wins out of 4 matches, at Livorno, vs Inter, at Napoli and vs Udinese (again, I think). Honestly, I don’t think either scenario will happen.
I guess playing in the UEFA Cup would provide the challenge of adding the only missing trophy to the largest international trophy collection in the world. Besides, if Milan played in the UCL they would waste the money on Ronaldinho and/or Sheva anyway. Hopefully, they’ll be enough money available to sign Zambrotta, Cudicini and a central defender.
Bobby-Again, why does it matter the distance involved?
I thought you had said that the reason Masch was sent off was because he was arguing with ref. The distance between two people should have nothing to do with it.
To be honest, I don't think Rooney should see yellow for arguing with the ref. But I think that Man U was gifted three points against Liverpool because Masch should've never been sent off.
There is very much a double standard going on there but thats sports!
Gorn - Because you accept reality doesn't mean you think that something is perfect. Are you telling me that there is a perfect league - what ever that is suppossed to entail? The MLS is a young league that produces some good games, some poor games and a lot of so-so games - how is that any different than any other leagues. Sport by nature is imperfect over the course o####ame, a round, a race. It can always be better. What annoys me is people that say they won't watch such-and-such a league because it isn't "technically" good. On that basis why would people turn up to watch kids play at a national championship, or an another amateur game? Are you telling me that exciting games only happen in the leagues that you follow?

I have been hearing some talk about liverpool wanting to get bentley. This kind of statement really gets to me. Why on earth should we go and buy more of arsenal's refuge we did it with pennant(and he is cr.ap) now we want to do it again. If he is not good enough for arsenal why the hell should he be good enough for us? the simple fact is Liverpool needs world class players, bentley is not. he is just a good player on a team of average players(except Santa Cruz and Mcarthy at times) so therefore that makes him look like a very good player. I cant believe we are going to fall for this again.
Bentley is obviously good enough for Liverpool as 4th spot is as high as the club wants to go so it he will fit right in ;p. Good enough to fool you he can start but really no where near a complete player a top club should be fielding.
Anyways as for todays game to infuriate Mas even more if Barcelona put it together they have a real chance! No but in honesty they don't unless Man U doesn't put it together and that would be surprising. After the Arsenal Man U game I said Barcelona had a good shot if Man U came out and played a similar game as E'to is obviously a better finisher then Ade and Arsenal have nothing comparable to Messi (maybe Walcott next year ;)) so playing that poorly defensively they would get picked apart by the pure individual talent of Barcelona alone. If Barcelona could hold themselves together at the back to defend that lead is another question.
Come on, now. The difference is embarassment - you're embarassing and undermining the official, in a way that draws more attention to it than if you just yelled from distance. It also stops play, which also draws more attention to the official and his decisions, and it's insulting. Yelling from across the pitch isn't perfect, but in the heat of the moment swearing happens. When you take the effort to run across the pitch and get in the ref's face, you're being an ####. Plus, you may be running across to use violent conduct on the ref (although mascherano did not). You have to use your head.
I just read on wikipedia that jermaine Pennant is illiterate. This is shocking. How on earth does he read his contracts how does he read team sheets to see if he is playing if the manager sends out a team memo how does he read it. Hell how does he even read the street signs that direct u to anfield. I alays wondered why when if he plays at arsenal or one of his former clubs why dont the fans have placards up with words to taunt him, now I know why. At first when i read this i thought it was a mistake so i did some research and it turns out this is true. Does he not make enough money to get a tutor or english teacher or something. My word this guy lives in a country that claims to have a literacy rate of 99% but yet still he cant read. I have a feeling this is why he did not make it at arsenal, with a manager like wenger that is clearly an intellectual who tries his best to speak well. I have officially heard and seen it all. How can we win the ENGLISH premier league with players that cant read english. amazing. I need a while to let this soak in. what kind of message is this sending to young kids- Tell your english teacher to sod off, skip class and become a professional footballer.
Vidic is apparently out tonight -- I smell goals a plenty at the Camp Nou! Even a half-fit Messi should twist the blood of the fully fat John O'Shea. Interesting to see Fergie's team selection tonight -- does he go 4-5-1 and invite Messi-Eto'o et al on to his team and hope to hit Barca on the break? Should be a fascinating contest!
aldoray,
For somebody who just confused "refuge" with "refuse" in a recent post, it's probably not wise to cast asperions about the illiteracy of others, especially ones gleaned from Wikipedia, whose accuracy is -- while better than the red tops -- hardly the holy grail.
Davard-I understand what Bobby and yourself are saying. The problem is that first and foremost, distance is not in the rulebook.
When Masch was sent off the reason was because he swore at the referee. It wasn't because he ran 10 yards to ask why Torres had gotten a yellow.
There is a rule saying you are not allowed to ask an official to card another player. With what you are saying, it would be worse to do it in the face of a referee than it would be to do it from a distance.
And with what I'm saying, is that distance shouldn't matter. By the rules it doesn't matter.
By the way, I thought it was quite ironic for you to say that Rooney was ok because his was in the heat of the moment but you then close your post by saying that players need to use their heads...
