LGB – 1. Any chance you are going to be able to leave NA and go see some Euro matches? 2. Have you been to any Cup Finals? Worked any? 3. You see what’s going on with Liverpool how often do you think this happens in boardrooms(in the background that is)? 4. If you could do your own short list for PFA player of the year, who would be on that list? 5. You said last week that United's system of attacking is a variation of the Dutch system using fewer players. Has Ferguson reinvented himself with this approach? I don't remember the high-flying United teams earlier in this decade using this type of attack. 6. Speaking of the Ferguson's, I read the article on Darren. Have you seen any of Peterborough's games? Is he worth all the press? 7. Finally...has anyone offered you a bribe to pump up their team on the FSR?
Bobby – 1. No chance whatsoever.
2. I’m assuming you mean FA Cup Finals? – No.
3. I think you would find this sort of thing at lower levels but not at the top flight. You are dealing with multi million pound budgets and usually that brings with it some sober second thought. You don’t call for the CEO’s resignation knowing that you don’t have the votes to achieve it without it being part of a longer term objective. What’s his longer term objective? I can only guess the purpose it to continue to poison the atmosphere to the extent that Gillett bales or the other directors will pay a healthy premium to get rid of Hicks.
4. Ronaldo, Torres and four others.
5. United has help true to attacking football right from the Busby era. It is part of the culture to go out and entertain – that was why I questioned the fielding of two defensive midfield players at the start of the season. Ferguson from his days at St. Mirren (perhaps even East Stiringshire!) and Aberdeen has been a manager who likes to go forward and take the play to the opposition. I think the only thing that is different this season is how fluid their play is and that comes down to the players he has.
6. Really don’t know anything about Posh (the team not the “singer”) apart from the owner Barry Fry. The press are taking an interest because of the family but also at this time you will see a few articles about younger managers pushing for promotion spots in the lower leagues. Paul Ince got some attention after MK Dons won at Wembley and Swansea’s Spanish manger Roberto Martinez has also received some coverage.
7. Yes it happens on a fairly regular basis and I have even been threatened.
Matt_Johnston - I know this is a common question, but in light of the attention paid to the Champions League has the domestic cup challenges become something of an after thought for the top clubs in any league, whether it is the EPL, SPL, La Liga, Serie A, League 1, etc? As you mention Cardiff and Queen of the South (what a story there) getting to their respective finals, but it goes even deeper than that. In Scotland, Rangers, Celtic, et al and in the FA Cup, every one of the big four teams was gone by the semi-finals if not before.
Bobby – First of all I think you have to consider that some countries don’t have a deep Cup tradition – Italy is good example of that. What I find strange is that it was my sense that more teams took the FA Cup “seriously” this season than in previous years and we got the wackiest results in a couple of lifetimes.
The format of single game cup ties lend themselves to surprises so maybe what we are seeing is that trend being reestablished and making up for some predictable finalists over the last decade or so.
Ranges and Celtic have dominated Scottish football to a large extent for over one hundred years but they have contested 14 finals out of a total of 122. You would need to do a bit more analysis to find out how many times one of the Old Firm has knocked the other out before the final but even so it shows that there is a good chance that at least one finalist in Scotland will not come from the Old Firm.
footie_fan - Bummed you won't be on tonight. Could you give us your views on the two games you watched? Thanks.
Bobby – United and Arsenal game was cracking match. Arsenal had the chances to win the game in the first half but allowed United back into it and United did not pass up the opportunity. United went for the throat – Arsenal didn’t.
TFC and Galaxy was a horrible game but three needed points for Toronto. Like Arsenal, the Galaxy failed to take their chances (Landon Donovan take a bow) and paid the price. I don’t know it was just me but the playing surface at the Home Depot looked to be playing very poorly. The ball seemed to bump along rather than rolling with any consistency.
Dasayev - And speaking of wacky coaching transitions, what about Klinsmann's impending takeover of Bayern? Of course he did a great job at the world Cup but he has no managerial experience at club level and will take over a Bundesliga champion team headed for the CL. And on Bayern, did you catch that finish with Getafe? Between that and Liverpool-Arsenal, it was two of the great finishes in a matter of days...
Bobby – If you get a chance there is a very good article about the Klinsmann appointment in the March issue of World Soccer by Nick Bidwell.
Albertagooner - I caught Inter-Fiorentina and was hugely impressed by Mario Balotelli, a 17-year-old who showed a lot more composure in front of the net than either Adebayor or Wayne Rooney for that matter. Apparently he's hopped ahead of Hernan Crespo in the pecking order, which is why the former Chelsea man will move to Juventus this summer.
Bobby – One of the regular posters was talking Balotelli up earlier this season.
MasMaz - I hope this isn't a trend, all the shows besides Monday and Friday can get a little slow.
Bobby – I try to keep Mondays and Fridays but sometimes it just doesn’t work out.
Craigy_f -1. Isn’t it normal protocol for the referee to flip the coin at the beginning of the match? 2. What three things stand out for you in all the football you’ve seen this weekend? 3. To what do you attribute the MLS’s inability to get its best teams into the final of the CONCACAF Champions League. Two wins and one final appearance from ‘97 through 2000 and then nothing? The MLS Cup holders were stifled at home and outplayed comprehensively by a team from Costa Rica and the Supporters’ Shield Holders had a dreadful away leg and didn’t take the opportunities to make the home leg their own. 4. Peter Couch has been rated at 10M GBP and 6M GBP this week, which valuation do you think is closer to the fee he would actually be sold for? 5. Why do we not see ‘three at the back’ formations in the PL? 6. Can you see any of the three promoted Championship teams not going straight back down? 7. Next Jan/Feb there will be no ACoN. Do you see this having any effect on the transfer targets of PL managers (or other big euro league managers) this off season. (Of course it’ll be on in 2010 – football does have a short memory though doesn’t it) 8. Do you think the title race is over?
Bobby – 1. From what I know there is not a rule about who flips the coin. All the rule states is that a coin is tossed and the winner chooses the way to play. The loser gets kick off. I experienced referee’s flipping the coin, and have also seen referees ask one of the two captain’s to flip and the other to call.
2. Hargreaves’ free kick and a great example to a poster of sometime ago of what happens when a wall doesn’t jump. Evra and Clichy putting on a fantastic display of how to play full back. Some great sot blocking from Greg Sutton for Toronto.
3. Not good enough at that stage in the season.
4. Based on transfer inflation at least 10M – is he worth it? I’ll let you decide.
5. Three at the back especially when played at a high temp allows forwards too much space to make runs into. It puts the defenders under lots of pressure and in turn it takes away the option of building through wide positions. It also creates a bit of space for midfielders to attack if the forwards pull the markers wide. Dominant teams can get away with it but a lot of coaches believe that the formation lacks balance.
6. It will be very tough on them. I would hope that West Brom might give it a real shot given Tony Mowbray’s commitment to attack and trying to play from back to front. I’ve mentioned it a number of times that there are a lot of poor teams in the Premiership this season and it is likely that there will be a good number next season as well.
7. It’s been shown that the human brain is more likely to discount the long term in exchange for short term gratification. I can only assume that managers’ brains are wired in a similar way.
8. Two wins and a draw wins the title for United – one win and a draw if the win comes against Chelsea. It is now a Willie Waddell.
Thierry_Henry - Just a personal question if you don’t mind. If you were to compare yourself at FSC with managerial job, which one would mostly be the closest:
-Benitez at Liverpool -Wenger at Arsenal -Mancini at Inter -SAF at UTD -Rijkaard at Barcelona -Ancelotti at Milan - Ramos at Tottenham
Bobby – Alex Rae at Dundee.
Jahmikes - With Ronaldhino pretty much on his way to Milan, what do you think of my Gunners acquiring the services of Seedorf? , He seems to be unhappy with his new role, since the introduction of Pato, I think the price would be right, we would have an experienced player who has won on all levels, and he would provide good leadership for at least three yrs.
Bobby – Not going to happen.
Seanhipworth - How many of Cristiano Ronaldo's goals (in the Premiership) are from the penalty spot? I cannot seem to find this statistic anywhere, (even on ESPN's stats-loaded website). Are these things only Americans care about? Secondly, I assume it's not illegal but it should be: why are players allowed to pause their approach run when taking a penalty? It's hard enough for a keeper to stop it, why does the kicker get to try and fake him out in such a way? I think it's a tasteless way to take a penalty, results aside.
Bobby – From what I gather Ronaldo has scored three goals from the penalty spot in the Premiership. Louis Saha has a couple. In terms of the penalty kick you have to consider that not so many years ago the goalkeeper was not allowed to move at all until the ball was struck. There is nothing within the Rules of the Game but the following appears as part of “Additional Instructions and Guidelines to Referees”.
"Feinting to take a penalty kick to confuse opponents is permitted as part of football. However, if in the opinion of the referee the feinting is considered an act of unsporting behaviour, the player shall be cautioned."
Neophyte - Where would you put the signing of Luca Toni on the scale of successful signings? Is it just the proximity of the stands to the pitch or are the fields smaller in Germany (dimension wise) than you see in England? (It could be my TV...they just look more compact)
Bobby – Toni - very much a success. I doubt very much that fields on average are that much smaller in Germany than England. It is more likely caused by camera angles…..or your set.
Neophyte - I just read a comment on FSC site from Cruyff about Man Utd. being an "English" side that plays the long ball. It seems that stereotypes can blind even some of the most respected soccer minds (talents). It is a good thing that Frank R. is not being advised by Mr. Cruyff....he would have Frank preparing for a different team. What's your prediction for the CL's semis? (any comment on Cruyff's statements?)
Bobby – I’m guessing that Cruyff comments may not have been accurately reported for no other reason than if true it provides greater motivation to United. United to beat Barcelona and I have yet to decide on the other tie.
Aldoray - Which do u think is the lesser of two evils Hicks or Gillete. And why? And have u known of any previous examples in the Prem where 2 people have equal ownership in a club and run it successfully?
Bobby – Gillett has been given – and taken – the better PR advice. They are both experienced and largely successful businessmen but as we have seen on many occasions that does not bring with it a guarantee when owning a football team in Europe. I don’t think either got into this understanding the culture of Liverpool FC and their fans. What’s more it would appear that the previous shareholders were seduced by the money on offer and did not represent the true nature of the purchase offer to the fans.
After stating that they were not offering a Glazer-type leverage buy-out deal it is clear that is exactly what they were intending to do. In that circumstance you cannot separate the two. I think the remark was attributed to Roman Abramovich but I am sure it was not an original – “a hamster is just a rat with with better PR.” That probably sums it up.
It you consider success in the Premiership as winning the League title then you are limited to Manchester United, Arsenal, Blackburn and Chelsea and none of these clubs had a 50/50 shared ownership.
Finally perhaps I should I clarify my answer to LGB way back at the beginning of the responses. The bribes and threats come from the Old Timers team who offer to waive the price of a post match bru or if that doesn’t work to post slanderous remarks on the blog about my on field performances!
Bobby-So is that all we have to do? Offer a brewski and you will up the teams? What about a mention of LGB on FSR:)
I'm of course kidding.
As for the Cup Finals I did mean the FA Cup but have you worked any major finals in general(international or domestic, and that can be any domestic league)?

Guest speakers: Rafa Benitez and Steven Gerrard - "How to win a European Cup"
Davard replied: Flash-
You funny guy w/your Arsenal menu. Fair enough. Do you happen to have a link to what your Tottenhurl boys ate on May 7, 2006, when they made Upton Park their personal vomitorium and puked they way out of the Champions league spot and into the UEFA Cup?
I think it was just nerves, as they are, as you know, a soft bunch.
Davard: It was Lasagna. It must have been some sight to watch.
We hereby encourage members of the Old Timers team to post vaguely accurate commentary (slanderous or otherwise) of Bobby's on field performances. Beer coupons will be in the mail.
One paragraph in particular is worth quoting, for those who may have heard-- and believed-- certain stories about the supposed behaviour of LFC supporters (related to why, even today, The Sun "newspaper" sells proportionately far fewer copies in Liverpool than elsewhere in England):
"Apart from the odd ####, usually young and at least alive, the abiding memory of Saturday's experience will be the immense dignity with which all involved conducted themselves. Not least were the Liverpool fans who used advertising boards as makeshift stretchers and ferried the injured and the dying to the ambulances with the speed and efficiency of highly trained paramedics."
In N America, in the pre-internet and home satellite TV days of 1989, it was difficult to get extensive news on the disaster in the first few days (until English papers arrived in local news outlets)-- for the most part, local media (as I recall) generally had brief stories, vague in detail, that seemed to take the general line that somehow the whole thing was hooligan-related.
So I was already getting nervous in a post-Heysel way, when my Ipswich-fan uncle phoned (although I was born and raised on this side of the Atlantic, by family ties in England I should have been either an Ipswich or Wolves fan ...). He had seen The Sun headlines, which detailed all sorts of horrors perpetrated by LFC supporters at the scene of the disaster.
I was crushed-- until I started to hear another side of the story, about police incompetence and stupidity causing the tragedy, and (later) about police cover ups to hide responsibility. And the fact that The Sun headlines were fabrications, borne out of typical anti-Liverpool (the city) media bias. And the continued (to this day) fight for justice for the victims.
I didn't personally suffer at Hillsborough, of course, and I do not know anyone who lost a loved one there, so my story has no real importance. But I thought it would be worth sharing on the anniversary today, for those of us who follow our teams at some distance.
It's frightening how many football-centric tables I will have at my wedding reception.
Example? One will have a 40ish Hearts-supporting Scot, 50ish Newcastle Geordie, 30ish Juventus-lovin' Italo-Argentine, 30ish Man-Utd Northern Irishman, and a River Plate/Barcelona supporting Argentine.
Should be some interesting discussions going on at the table, hm?!
Another table has Lyon, Arsenal, Boca Juniors, Racing Club (ARG), and Sunderland represented.
l have to react to the villa rumours , quite frankly what the doctor orderd.eduard will be back by 2009-10 season so we can not rely on him for next season.reading a lot of arsenal blog rvp is losing his popularity, a year ago your ip address would have een taken and banned from the site for critissm of rvp , but l think he is a very unreliable player and surely although fit and in form is as good as any striker but fit is a big if.clearly bendnter is still behind ade and walcott l really think is a wide man.l do not buy the idea that we need vey old guy , no we need player who come in right positions, a striker, winger and centerback should be okay to mount a tittle challenge, although l have to say l can not see wenger getting villa , he would rather get someone from indonesia
BOBBY
TA - although I concur that early MLS season performance isn't great I'd also say it's got to be better teams south of the border. Why. Look at last years SUPERLIGA winners!
RF
Clumsy - as opposed to going down like a ponce when someone farts nearby?
Diving is diving - it's only elegant when it's into a pool. It's not welcome anywhere on the football field.
LGB
Er Yes.
RINGO
Is he dead?
BAD SIGNING OF THE SEASON?
For me it has to be Nugent for 'Arry!
6M quid on a player his old manager wouldn't give more than 2.5M for and he's barely seen the inside of a stadium all season. Only 8 starts in 20 apps with 3 goals.
SIGNING OF THE SEASON
Churlish to deny it.
Fern - where would LFC be without his 30 goal haul this season? Better in the flesh than on TV.
Honourable mention goes to Yakubu - 21 goals for 11.25M - bargain.
Wait what, David Villa likes Arsenal style football?
No praise for the mighty Spurs?
Canadian Jonathan De Guzman says a dream move would be to Arsenal or Barcelona? What no mention of Spurs.
Don't worry flash after Wenger is sorting through which ones are worth the price he will leave some leftovers for Spurs to overpay for to make up for their lack of prestige. You could always tell them about the League cup.
Signing of the year= Carlos Tevez. Seemingly perfect fit with anyone he plays with.
However most importantly b/c by signing him Fergie kept Wenger from getting him. Tevez could have tipped the scale towards Arsenal. Just what they need a player with finishing skills, directness and a huge heart.
Hey Bobby, I researched Alex Rae and found much about his playing career but not enough about his managerial career. but i kind see your point, he is both player & manager at the same time.:)
Arsenal really needs a keeper. and he must be an experienced keeper.
BUFFON from JUVE would be a good addition to the young squad.
secondly we should plug about fullbacks. Clichy & Sagna are great. but we need to back them up so we don't have to push Toure out of our central defense when we get injuries. But man, I like our fullbacks they are great. France is really lucky to have these two guys.
And we REALLY need to replace THIERRY HENRY. Oh, please please please, give Flamini his contract. thanks.
Right and after Arsenal sign Buffon we can go off and sign Ronaldo and put Pele in a time machine... Lets at least be realistic as to what players are available. I highly doubt that one of the best keepers in the world is available from a club that is trying to get back to its world class status. Also Almunia has been good enough that Keeper is not the first priority.
LB/RB? how about actually getting a real midfielder and putting Eboue back where he belongs. On the bench as a backup to Sagna.
Never thought Arsenal were in the hunt for Tevez especially since we got Eduardo so not sure how hes the signing of the year or that he was coming to Arsenal. The signing is obviously Torres because of the position he plays but I will still argue for Sagna! His first year and he is already the best RB in England and thats a fact. Then again Torres might be the best striker in England and its his first year also.
Mas-We are in the same position as last year(and 2005 as I pointed out) but if it weren't for Torres we wouldn't even be where we are now.
Some will tell you this team is more talented than past reds teams but with Agger out our backline is nowhere near as good as it used to be.
Riise and Finnan are not the same as they used to be and nor is Hyypia. And with Gerrard pushed more forward, he is going to see less of the game than he is used to.
I can see why Rafa wants to sign Barry, he needs to bring in someone that can go forward because it seems Alonso has trouble in doing that.
But back to the point, without Torres we wouldn't be half as good as we are. Without Tevez, United would still be just as dangerous.
Is Tevez better than Rooney? Maybe. He's a better finisher for my liking but Rooney still does a lot that he warrants his reputation.
A keeper is not a priority for Arsenal, IMO. Especially a high priced 40 year old. Sure it would be nice to get a top 5 keeper, but Almunia isn't to blame. I like Seedorf also, but lets get real here.
Man U are in the same spot as they are last year with Tevez also. They are winning the league and are in the Semis of the CL. Don't really see the earth shattering impact he has made. Great player but id hardly credit him for pushing Man U over the top when Ronaldo has 38 goals. Pretty sure his play is whats pushing them and compared to last years results they haven't improved yet.
If Vidic isn't back for the Barcelona games and Man U come out flat like they did against Arsenal they are cooked. I don't care how bad they have been playing in their league. E'to and Henry will put Man U away if they are given the same chances Arsenal saw at OT.
edit: from a points perspective the best Man U can do is finsih with 92 points which is 3 more from last year. They have let in 9 less goals from last year but scored 11 less goals with 4 games to go.
henry14: No idea how RVP could fall into disfavour.
He showed a great deal of smarts on Sunday against ManU, putting the team ahead of personal glory.
With all the injuries the team have suffered, he could have risked further injury, or even disfigurement, by jumping up in front of Owen Hargreaves free kick.
Instead, he kept himself ready for the next game by ducking just a little and letting the ball pass by. Shame Lehman couldn't do a proper job of positioning.
No, in a season where I've never found Ar5ena1 so watchable, my hat goes off to RVP.
Well unless Tevez was going to captain the team and play defense I don't see how he solves Arsenals problems. Of Arsenals 3 last most important games they have taken the lead and lost them. Thats a problem of the defense not holding the fort down not that the offense wasn't able to get them a 3 goal lead where they are comfortable.
Didn't Vidic miss last years tie vs Ac Milan? If he misses this years against Barcelona and Man U come out flat again like they did against Arsenal and crash out that might make him the most important player but he doesn't have the sexy stats to back it up with.
Between Bobby's comment and flash's, I don't see what you guys are talking about. Walls are supposed to stay on the ground I thought. Otherwise players could just take thier free kicks right underneath the wall. It was just a good free kick in my opinion.
why do you guys think Wenger Benched Almunia on saturday vs. MAN UTD. It's because he was not much confident in him. Lehmann is prone to errors. We need someone who can deal with crosses in the box and come out for corners. Until we fix that, we are in for trouble.
Arsenal has enough cash to buy whoever they want at this point. Even more cash than UTD who are paying Glazers debts.
I've been hearing this lately that Hleb will be joining Inter at the end of the season. The only thing left is to agree on the transfer amount. Anybody heard anything about this?
Well frankly if he wants to leave let him go, I'm more concerned about Flamini staying. Ben Arfa should be the ideal replacement if Hleb is to leave. He shoots the ball well, has alot of pace, good vision, good ball control and quite skillful.
Gunners Sound It...BOOM!!!

Jay hit the nail on the head. Sometimes you have to be able to win 1-0 and Arsenal seem incapable of that.
LGB, that clip also proves a few other things. 1) Carragher will never be as good as Hyypia, no matter how English Carragher is. 2) Rafa looks better without the goatee. 3) Baros is not that good.
RICO
Walls are only Supposed to block the ball - how they do it - mostly depends on the taker and the 'keeper.
NEO (BEST SIGNINGS)
Fern then Yak, haven't seen enough Bayern this season to comment much; is 18 from 26 in the bundesliga good? Benjani has been decent in spurts and far from the top five in this years signings.
Tevez is good and cost more and scored less than both Yak and Fern. Deffo top five though.
BEST SIGNINGS (taken from a slightly different perspective)
How are Atetico w/out Fern? (That'll be Atleti's domense)
How are Boro without Yak - short on goals
How are Fiorentina without Toni - coping quite well thanks to a Romanian God of Goals thankyou
How are the Hammers doing without Tevez - mid table mediocrity - about the same
MAZ
Suazo - dunno quite how he'd fit into the Arsenal?
JAY
"Thats a problem of the defense not holding the fort down not that the offense wasn't able to get them a 3 goal lead where they are comfortable."
How can you say that?
Clearly Arsenal were all over Liverpool for 30 minutes at Anfield (had they been three up on the half hour how would the game had gone? (and as you said they failed to take chances against the mancs) (and feasibly could have won the game with better finishing).
Taking just the last two games they failed to score when they were dominant and plain failed to score - that would suggest problems at the front not the back.
I think Arsenal have problems that can be solved by some tinkering and maybe dropping 20M on one or two players.
I agree with what Verbal said above. Not only could they not defend a 1 goal lead it was like once they scored the goal and the other team turned on that they needed a goal the defense shipped them a PK in panic. So even if Arsenal took their chances earlier like in the Pool CL game it just means the other team wakes up faster and ships a goal by losing a 6'3 blond fin on a corner or like in the first leg let Gerrard power into the box 3 minutes after scoring.
The only players that have been consistent on defense this year have been the fullbacks and Flamini and Cesc tracking back. The partnerships between Toure/Gallas and Senderos have been riddled with errors. Wenger is most loyal to Toure (for good reason) so heres hoping for a horrible Euro for Gallas and Senderos so that he cant deny a CB is needed.
WOW, I didn't realize the extent of the overhaul required at the Emirates. I guess poor old Wenger really doesn't know after all. He stubbornly refuses to spend. He fails to see the massive, gaping flaws in his back line that are obviously to all except him -- just more of that famous selective vision, I guess.
So before we buy or sell anybody, let's turf him. - after all, it's been three years since we won ANYTHING - and bring in Mourinho. Or Lippi. Or Hitzfeld. Because God knows, we're worse off than we were last year, right? And even worse, the squad is playing #### football, aren't they? Drowned like kittens at Old Trafford, didn't they? Folded like a rummage sale card table at Anfield, right?
Ahem.
Anyway, here's F365's prescription for the Gunners' squad.
Do you think Wenger should buy more players for next season. If you think so, how many players, for which positions, and should buy more English players.
A team that is being hammered but only one nil down would typically be a bit more dangerous than a team that is being hammered and is two or three goals down.
In any game a 1 goal defecit is not as bad as two.
Altough looking at the table and Arsenal in relation to the clubs around them the real glaring difference is 16 home wins for the Mancs, four more than their nearest rivals. So even though you don't lose at the Emirates (nor Chelsea at the Bridge) neither of you wins enough at home.
AG
Funny! :)
GOD HELP US!
David Beckham and Tom Cruise are considering teaming up to buy a football club - but they have not decided whether the club would be in the UK or the USA. (Daily Express)
So what do you think of football365's suggestions regarding Aresene will have to bring at least 4 players in the summer? And if you do agree, are there any realistic targets that you would like to see at the club?
craigy agreed, and the Hargreaves free kick isn't fresh enough in my head to say whether it should or should not have been blocked. But personally I have always been taught to stay on your feet, and I would personally much rather concede a free kick that went over me, than one that went underneath my feet because I jumped.
How do you all rate Igor Akinfeev (CSKA/Mother Russia) as Lehmann's potential replacement?
Also I have been reading that Villa said he would like to play for Arsenal. What do you think of him at the Gunners? I think he would do great and play well with Adebayor.
If Carlos Vela is brought into the fold that might relieve some of the left wing issues.
Other players that are currently out on loan for Arsenal are Keiran Gibbs (MF), Mark Randall (MF), Jay Simpson (FW), Fran Merida (MF), Pedro Botelho (MF) and Vincent van den Berg (MF). How do you rate these youngsters?
What are the chances Wenger would bring Bentley back?
If Flamini and/or Gilberto is not resigned, who do you think Arsene should make a move for?
On another note... Ballotelli will not leave Inter for at leaast another couple of years -regardless of how much cash Chelski puts on the table. Hopefully they manage to keep him for good. My old roommate rates him high and compares him to Altobelli.
The Hargreaves free kick was completely Lehmann’s fault.
The players in the wall have to keep their feet planted, they did a perfect job. The only way a freekick from close range is going to get over the wall and down like that, is if the ball is travelling relatively slowly. Keepers are taught to set the wall up and then stand where they can see the ball being kicked. He obviously has to protect his side. If the ball is going to the far side, the laws of physics dictate that it cannot get there very quickly, and he has to get across the goal to it.
If the keeper didn’t have to worry about the side behind the wall, he might as well set up an 8 man wall and go take a nap. (If Lehmann were reading this, he’d probably think that’s a pretty good idea!)
