Redfan2000 - Time seemed to stop you commenting on the Inter vs Liverpool game, so what was your summation of the two legs?

Bobby – Liverpool was the better team and won it through perseverance and patience. Against ten men and with around five minutes to go in the first leg Liverpool could have easily panicked but they stuck to it.

There were only perhaps two moments when Inter threatened in Milan and the Reina save low to his left was probably the pivotal moment. If that deflection had gone in then Inter might have made a real go of it.

But as it turned out, Reina saved, Burdisso gets a second yellow and Torres scores a terrific goal. We could argue about Inter playing most of the time with ten men and the impact it had on the outcome but you can only play against what is in front of you and Liverpool won without ever really being tested by the Inter attack.

Weah11 - Do you see a clear out (coaches + some players) if Chelsea fail to pass Fenerbahce? I read that Lippi is interested in coming to the EPL.

Bobby – Can I see coaches and players moving on if Chelsea fails to pass Fenerbahce? I can see coaches and players moving on even if they go on to win the Champions League and the Premiership. It is part of the normal process.

By the same token you will not see a clear out (I would define a clear out as six or seven legitimate members of the first team squad leaving). In fact I can’t think of the last time a big club had a real clear out of staff.

It’s down to the fact that players at top clubs are making incredible money and there are very few clubs outside maybe a dozen or so in Europe that are willing to match their wage demands. The fans response to failure is to call for a clear out but the reality is that there has to be another club willing to pay a transfer fee and to pay the salary demands.

Without that other side of the equation most players are more than willing to sit tight and allow their bank balances to grow. Lippi is just one of a number of high profile managers who will be available this summer. It’s a summer of a major final and so that means we will also see national team managers resigning or getting fired.

Don’t be surprised if most of the media interest is around managerial appointments rather than player signings this summer.

Thierry_Henry - Some Arsenal fans are starting to tell Wenger what he should do. As if he doesn't see what's wrong with the team. Just because we've drawn 4 matches in the last few weeks...

Look, at the beginning of the season Bobby suggested we will not be in the top 4. If it wasn't for injury to Eduardo, we would be first. So, relax and keep faith in the magin man, Wenger.

Bobby – As MasMaz pointed out I picked Arsenal to finish third. I have the article from last August archived and hopefully it will be rolled out at the end of the Premiership season for the benefit of all.

Foxcube - Perhaps you did in on TV but I'd love to hear your comments on Mancini's U-turn (or anyone could share?). Another question is why the top 4 in England don't break away from the league and have their own TV deals. Thanks!

Bobby – Mancini has a reputation for being overly emotional at times and speaking before thinking. I think that was one of the moments. The big four don’t breakaway and do their own tv deals because they are not allowed to.

My understanding is that centralized TV broadcast sales is part of the Premier League regulations and to be changed 75% of the 20 teams have to vote to change. As turkeys very rarely vote for Christmas you are not likely a change anytime soon.

ReggaeGunner - I watched the Roma vs Milan match and I was very impressed by the player Vucinic. Why doesn't Spalletti play him in the starting 11 and let Totti play off him or is he more effective coming off the bench. Whenever I see him play he seems to be the difference when he's on the pitch. Always a threat to the other teams when on the pitch. Another to mention is Aquillani, he shoots the ball well.

Bobby – You would think that Spaletti is going to find it more difficult to keep Vucinic out of the starting line-up based on his scoring record off the bench. He’s scored in the three games in the last few weeks when he has come as substitute; there again he failed to score in the game he started.

He’s not overly quick but seems very composed when a chance comes his way. Maybe we will see him in the Rome derby on Wednesday as he scored against Lazio earlier this season.

Venti_Vidi_Vici  - Platini was quoted today encouraging English fans to oppose foreign ownership in the EPL. He seems to jump at every opportunity to criticize the EPL and the FA. He disapproves of foreign ownership, lack of English players, the foreign national team coach, the violent play and the 39th match, just in the few months he’s been at the helm. Does he have some anti-English agenda, or is he just concerned with the state of English football, and the effects it has, and could have, on European football?

Bobby – I would suggest that Platini’s issue is more about money than it is about the nationality of the league. The Premiership has the largest TV contract, the largest crowds and has become a magnet for international businessmen looking to make money.

However I don’t think you will see President Platini turning down Sky’s bid for the Champions League rights even though it is English money.

Flashman - Nice move by your network to get the Canada-US U-23 game on this week. The way Toronto FC look to be deliberately not improving their roster, I'm convinced they're looking to tank deliberately and get a high draft pick. One of whom could be playing for Canada in that game. Should be interesting to see what's he's like.

Now, can we expect any changes in Champions League telecasts here in Canada now that Sky has snagged the bulk of future broadcast rights? We've got certain games now for free on basic cable with TSN. Though they act like they can barely stand showing them, with the total lack of support for soccer shown on that network. Will this new deal mean that FOXSWC will be taking games away from them, showing other games concurrent with those that might remain on TSN or will nothing change?

Flashman - What do you make of Amaudo Guevara, like? New York soccer journalist Ives Galarcep is reporting tonight that Mo Johnson is on the verge of re-connecting with the Honduran midfielder he coached in New York by signing him for Toronto FC. Guevara ticked off Toronto fans last year by refusing to come to the team with a deal for him already worked out. Now we're supposed to get over it and welcome this talented but flaky guy back in. Should we? Can we? Will we? And if he does join TFC, what can we expect from him on and off the field.

Bobby – I think there is a general concern that Toronto has done little so far to improve their roster. Based on the moves to date they have gone backwards since the end of last season. It seems to me that the fans gave them unbelievable backing during the first year and expected little but good effort in return from the first year team.

A year on and they expect a lot more. These fans do not strike me as the gullible Maple Leaf types who are willing to sit back and accept any rubbish put their way while MLSE milks fans dry. Without a good start I can see the vociferous support turning ugly.

In terms of Guevara nothing has been announced yet. If he signs for Toronto then you can expect to see a Riquelme-type player (I said type) who the team has to be built around and to get the most out of him all the plays have to go through him. Guevara fell out with Preki in no time at all last season and I have a great deal of admiration for the Chivas coach so I have my doubts that Mo and John Carver will have more success with him.

The Sky deal is for the UK only. Although Fox Soccer Channel in the US and Sky are both News Corp. companies it is my understanding that they operate completely independently. Fox Sports World Canada is owned by Can West Global and has deal with that is limited to the provision of certain games.

ESPN is the current North American rights holder for Champions League and I believe they have at least two seasons left but I stand to be corrected on that. ESPN owns 32% of TSN and TSN and Setanta sub license Champions League games from ESPN.

RonW - When Inverness Caley was promoted to the SPL I think there was talk of them playing home games in Aberdeen. Where are they playing now? One of the best sports headlines ever was about ten years ago when Caley were in the lower leagues (maybe even non-league) and they beat Celtic ... "Super Caley Went Ballistic Celtic Were Atrocious"

Bobby – Inverness Caley Thistle did opt to play their home games at Pittodrie during their first season in the SPL but finished up being able to move back to their own stadium around the half way point in the season after renovations were completed in super quick time. That was in early 2005 and they have played out of their own stadium since. The Sun’s headline was an all-time great when ITC beat Celtic in 2000. I think at that time ITC was in the first division.

22justin - We all know you are a closet Serie A lover, just admit it. Serie A is the TRUE BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD. YOU KNOW IT AND I KNOW IT.

Bobby – A closet has nothing to do with it. I've watched Serie A for years.  Best is subjective so I will let you argue that one out with others.

RINGO Have to agree with Bobby, that 1970 cup final was the best one I remember, the '75 Fulham/West Ham game is right up there also, not for the game itself but because it was the first time I went to Wembley. Sad to say that the first three goalscorers for Chelsea have all since died, and in the order they scored, Ian Hutchinson died in 2002, if I where David Webb I might be slightly concerned.

That final could have become the first time no-one won the cup. If David Webb had not 'cheeked' in the winner at Old Trafford the second replay was to have been played at Highfield Road, Coventry three days later ,and if that had ended in a draw both teams would have held the cup for six months each. The England world cup squad where leaving for the Mexico WC five days later ,leaving no more time for another game.

Bobby – There was also the story that might be of interest to those that think the game nowadays is a bit rough. A few years ago a newspaper (or the Beeb) asked then Premiership referee David Elleray to review the 1970 Cup Final from a disciplinary point of view and to judge the game against then current standards.

By the end of the first game at Wembley which finished 2-2 Elleray said that both sides would have finished with eight men each with the first sending red card coming in the 13th minute. What’s more Chelsea would have got 13 yellow cards and Leeds seven.

Henry14 - Last week somebody asked you if Arsenal should sell RVP and rightfully said no now l do think Rosicky who will be 28 needs to go and we can built our left hand side on a younger and not so much injury prone guy and Vela will be a good player + a new winger l feel should he be sold.

Bobby – What makes Rosicky injury prone? One season? Rosicky has played in two-thirds of Arsenal’s Premiership games since he joined the club which puts him ahead of the Freddie Ljungberg and I don’t remember a clamour for Freddie to be sold because he was “injury prone.” Rosicky’s scoring record is very close to the Swede’s so it seems like a fair comparison.

Why you would get rid of a player who is in his prime years and suggest that he should be replaced by another youngster - it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Or is it a case that what you haven’t seen is better than what you have?

Sleeper000- The English FA denied FIFA's request to increase Martin Taylor' punishment due to their belief that it was only a single isolated incident and they did not want to set a "horrible" precedent by extending Taylor's suspension. Question, what could FIFA do to enforce their request other than placing sanctions on the English FA which let's face it, will never happen? I am not trying to argue what should be done, I am simply curious as to what is the extent of FIFA's power in this scenario.

Bobby – FIFA has no real interest in extending Taylor’s punishment. It is pure posturing and Blatter playing to the masses knowing that he would be guaranteed media coverage if he raised the subject.

Does anyone really belief that FIFA has any interest in questioning the suspensions dished out every week because once they cross that line that is what it leads to. There are worse challenges than Taylor’s every week in leagues around the world and the precedent of FIFA issuing or mandating additional suspensions over and above those assessed by the national associations would grind the system to a standstill.

It’s also a quick way to finish up in court and FIFA has a very poor court record! The press release can be found here but I read nothing of a “horrible” precedent.

Finally, regarding the Arsenal goal that was disallowed for offside. It was not discussed on Monday’s show. However, a player cannot be played “onside” by a deflection off an opponent. To be played onside in such a situation the opponent must be judged by the referee to have full control of the ball. Otherwise the referee’s decision is based upon the position of the attacking player when the ball is last played by a teammate.

thanks for answering my question Bobby.

Maybe you can fill us in on why ESPN/TSN still does not broadcast the Champions League in HIGH DEFINITION when the feed is availible for all games from Sky??

This is extremely frustrating, having to watch the best competition in the world in standard def, when they show STUPID NASCAR in nothing but HD. (edit:thanks for the answer twinkletoes)

Second point, is it really necessary for FSC to cut to commercial literally like 5 seconds after the game ends? It would be great if they could just leave the feed on for an additional minute after the game ends, so we can see the handshakes and whatnot once the game ends, especially when its a derby (im talking about Serie A)

"One of Fox's resident experts, one Mr. Nick Webster, tabbed Arsenal for fifth, presumably before he got the beers in."

Fifth? Really? Maybe it was after getting a few too many beers in ...

AG:

"There was much rending of garments and gnashing of teeth from other pundits coopted by the gooner media conspiracy about how Arsenal would manage without their "talismanic striker and captain Thierry Henry." Does any of this piffle ring a bell, Griz? ;-)"

Hhmm. I'm not entirely sure where you're going with that- but then, I make it a point of pride not to be up-to-date on matters of comparative punditry ... nor to get caught in the crossfire of various North London shootouts.

As for TH: I admit to having been in two minds on his departure. Mutually exclusive minds at that! But I never expected Arsenal to slip out of a CL spot this year in any event.

AG:

"I put $100 on Arsenal winning the title after getting 12-1 last summer with TotalBet (now SkyBet). I didn't pick them to win (I thought Chelsea would regain the title) but figured I wouldn't see those kinds of odds for a very long time."

Very nice. If you win, of course, it will be evidence that you are the best punter around- and if you lose, it will be an anomaly down to bad luck!

LGB:

Luck- something that happens by chance, rather than by design on someone's part.

Luck is not moral- it is not good or bad, it just is. Its consequences, however, may be good or bad (or meaningless) for those experiencing it.

Injuries involve luck- unless they were deliberately caused- because they are the result of unexpected chance events.

Pennant's goal was a product of luck- there is no way he meant to score in the course of those movements (and I assume the Newcastle players involved did not intend him to score ...).

Wrong referee calls are luck. A PK granted incorrectly did not result from a situation in which a PK should have been the outcome, it is the product of chance in the way the official mistakenly assessed the foul.

Leaving aside metaphysics, football is full of unintended events resulting from chance- the natural result of the interaction of many people chasing a ball around a large expanse of grass over a period of time. If there was no chance in football, there would be no reason to play the game, since a sufficiently sophisticated algorithm could determine the winners of every match based on comparative measures.

"Best" is subjective, because it is a qualitative measure without commonly agreed standards to define it. If you mean by "best"- the league with the most teams representing it- then say so. Say: "the PL is the league with most CL representation in knock-out rounds". That can be objectively defined by agreed standards. Don't waffle by using vague words like "best" that mean something different to every listener.

BOBBY,
my appology about the 5th position comment. I listen to too many soccer commentators from many radios including BBC. and most analysts said that ARSENAL would be the team to drop out of the top 4 after TH was sold and no clear striker was purchased. so, I must have confused you with some some BBC guy...

Arsenal might be rich but the spend more approach is not flawless. Its not some simple math where you can just add players which might be potential solutions with no repercussions if they are busts. After that initial transfer fee you are still stuck paying the guys wages (imagine what Sheva is getting a year to do nothing) which people like to forget not to mention he not only could be ineffective as a player but even worse a cancer on the whole team (see joey barton in general when he attacks a teamate or maybe even Lehman and Diarra with whining).

The problem with Arsenals team this year wasn't size or depth. It was inexperience combined with the amount of niggling injuries they cant seem to shake. If you honestly go up and down their roster its a solid list of players with young backups hungry for playing time. When the entire team is healthy they can honestly split the team in 2 and have 2 starting XIs.

I really refuse to acknowledge this anymore without people directly naming the player they would want signed so it can be picked apart several ways as to why he was not available or was not realistic target. Honestly save the knives for a real disaster like the fact Flamini still has no new contract. If he leaves this summer

I agree...

Arsenal could have kept Viera, but the Ego and Injuries were too big. It just seem like yesterday when we reached the final of the Carling cup with a 2nd string team. what what depth problems are people talking about.

there things killed us this season:

AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS: Now we are able to realize the cost of ACN for arsenal. Imagine if Kolo would have played most matches with Gallas. And we really missed eboue for a while. thanks god that ADE's togo did not qualify.

KEY INJURY AT THE WRONG TIME: RVP & Eduardo. Let me ask you, what would happen to UNITED if Ronaldo goes down now? What would happen to Liverpool if Gerrard goes down?

BAD REF CALLS: Wenger should complain a little bit more... Yes. Imagine if that penalty at Bermingham in the 94th minute was awarded against a team coached by JOSE MOLINHO or S ALEX FER, they would have complained all week. It would put pressure on the ref to pay attention next time, even to be careful when awarding PK against them. It's not whining... it's part of the strategy. Wenger should learn from those two. but he didn't, and it happened again, in the m'boro game. two bad calls, and Wenger did not say anything...

Bobby, I never assumed FIFA really cared about the incident. I was just curious at to what the extent of their power would be if they were interested.
The "horrible" precedent came from a Croatian site. I should've read the English press release first.
Also, I am not going to comment on Taylor's vicious tackle any more. I think I made it pretty clear as to what my stand on the issue was. That won't change.

Ursus-Luck does not exist. Just because humans aren't perfect and aren't robots doesn't mean that since we can't put a game into a mathematical algorythmn, that luck makes up for the odd instances.

I'm sure the Newcastle defenders didn't intend Liverpool to score any goals so I guess we were lucky to have three then.

Luck doesn't exist. It doesn't matter how much waffle you want to put in there, it still doesn't make it exist.

Going back to the "best" thing, I've already said that the PL was the best because of getting four teams in the CL QF while the most any other league has is one. And on top of that because it is a continued success on the part of England's teams over the past four years.

I never made vague generalizations.

Justin- ESPN does broadcast Champions League games in HD on ESPN2, but the cameras used are regular 4x3 aspect rather than the newer widescreen format. You can choose to fill the screen w/your "full" aspect ratio button for a reasonable compromise. Picture isn't as good but color, sound, movement are all much better than SD.
Contrast this with the state-of-the-art HD cameras that ABC (owns ESPN under the Disney umbrella) sent to cover the world cup last summer; they were the wide angle format and thus it was 'true' HD.

So RINGO, we meet again on the field of play. And isn't Avram Grant a lucky man to be playing Spurs under present conditions.

Spurs have nothing to play for other than trying to secure their jobs for next year. Chelsea are trying to draw level with Ar5ena1. Of course, the Blues' players are facing the tough choice between hanging in for the title chase or dogging it and getting rid of Grant asap.

Most Spurs fans would be just fine with a Chelsea win today. If it helps put pressure on a sagging, dispirited Ar5ena1 squad, whose mamager admitted openly that the Champions League is now their priority, then it works for us.

We'd also like to see Grant stick around.

ursusarctos,

Sorry, I was mocking the pre-season conventional wisdom about pundits writing off Arsenal's chances for the title.

As for being the best punter around, I wouldn't make that claim even if Arsenal does win the league and I collect $1,200. I'm in a couple of pick the Premiership winners contests with Canadian broadcasters and my record is 151 correct 144 wrong, respectable but hardly worth giving up my day job.

Collecting on that bet will mean making a trip to north London to take in a game in August with my son.

Lets go Spurs? Would be nice if they put a dent in Chelsea's title chase especially ahead of the weekend game. Or even say tire out or accidentally injure the entire Chelsea first XI for one game!

Walcott might get a call up for England coming up. The apocalypse for this horrible friendly game in the middle of the season would be every single Arsenal player going off and getting injured in these useless friendlies. Someone is going to get hurt its inevitable. Not sure if the African teams are having friendlies but assuming no the only people not going off to get injured would be Eboue, Kolo, Almunia maybe Gilberto? and a bunch of the youngsters.

I don't understand anyone who can think that luck doesn't exist. Oprah doesn't believe in luck and therefore it played no part in her amassing her empire. Interesting to see how the African children she's helping feel about her stance on luck. And in that way, LGB, you are like Oprah.

FYI, I am one of the idiots who picked Arsenal for 5th. I honestly wondered where the goals were going to come from and in that way I've been very impressed with Adebayor and Fabregas' goal output thus far this season. That said, it does seem like Arsenal are regressing to the mean in that even Arsenal supporters couldn't have possibly expected a title this season.

In my humble experiences, 8 times out of 10 the difference between someone being successful and one who is not is the simple fact of who worked harder for their achievement.

And the other two times, its the simple fact of decision making.

Its just like I don't believe the owners are at fault for the fact that we sit 8 points back of United and Arsenal.

AG that would be money well spent you lucky dog, if it happens.

Call it providence, fate or the divine order of things. You can even call it the grace of God, but the thing that some people call chance or luck exists, without a doubt. It represents all the things we can't control, which outnumber by an infinite factor that which we can control.

Wenger doesn't rotate some players. Cesc should have been rested or put on the bench for one of the games and Denilson should have been given a chance he comes in with more hunger since he is trying to show he is good enough. Cesc on the other hand was tired and knows he is garanteed of a starting line up so he can sluck of same as Ade. Like Henry, Cesc has become untouchable and Ade seems like he's headed to been put in the same category.

Wenger has failed also in a great deal. The team on Sat for example should have come out with more passion, you watch Man U after they have dropped points in 2 or 3 games in a row they come out inspired and play like its a cup final that is what Arsenal needs to do and so far they haven't done it even after 4 straight draws hopefully they do it on Sunday. They always seem to take there game to another level when they play big teams.

You cant rotate a team that is injured. Denilson has been injured on and off so has Diaby and Walcott all the type of players Wenger needs healthy to push the first team players especially in midfield. Wenger has failed in making sure Arsenal have 3 teams worth deep of players which is a ridiculous expectation from any team.

I am willing to bet of all the teams in the league Arsenal have missed the most games by players who have played for the first team. They honestly have a player at every position to cover and compete but it all falls apart when you start carrying a ridiculous amount concurrent injuries. Heres hoping a full week between games helps get everyone rested and the injured closer to their returns. Also hopefully the strain on Chelsea and ManU playing a midweek game catches up to them.

"Oh, and it is no coincidence that my wedding date is set in the pre-season." -- LOL!!! That gave me a good laugh in the middle of a bad day, thank you!

alberta, Derek Taylor also predicted that Arsenal would finish 5th and Spurs would finish 4th. I avoided Bobby's analysis of the Boro game on Monday because I didn't feel like listening to/watching Jeremy's manc smugness. The man has no ability to hold his biases in check, unlike his colleagues.

I remember very well how Bobby predicted that Chelsea would win the league this season, so did I. I did not believe the mancs would retain their trophy and that Mourinho would win it back. All I reasonably hoped for Arsenal was a 2nd or 3rd place finish, a better CL run and maybe a domestic cup trophy.

When the mancs won the Community Shield, my skepticism about their retaining the league title was only reinforced. Given the way we've thrown away our lead and the unconvincing way the mancs are playing, Bobby may well still be proven right.

Atletico v. Sevilla --- can't wait!!! Hope it's as good as Milan-Roma was. There haven't been any really good games in the PL lately. I've seen some great games recently from Spain, Italy, France and Germany (yes, France, where there actually have been lots of goals, contrary to what the lazy brains on the FSR have said in recent segments). Not to mention Argentina and Brazil (I subscribe to Globo TV). But there've been precious few decent games from England lately.

Bobby, thanks for Inter feedback. I felt LFC shut down the Inter midfield really well and cut off the flow for most of the game. Reina was very sharp and did what he is paid to do. Mascherano was a huge influence being a real cork in the bottle for route 1. A tactical victory for Rafa no doubt.
Question now is can he do it to a premiership team he will have 3 goes at in 7 days? I think to beat the Arse we will need a first eleven fit and staying fit for that period. Very few positions are undecided inwhat I see as the first eleven and we will see a selection consistancy over that week I reckon, which will reveal Rafa's first eleven.

Chelsea really wish they would have Gallas back in that defense.

Great game btwn Chelsea and Tottenham. Robbie Keane is scored a great goal to tie it. Berbartov should have won it but Cudicini denied him. Amazing game though.

This really annoys me because we are the only big team to pick up points at WHL, and yet, we are trailing united by 3pts. we lost only once. really annoying. this season should been better...

as great as players chelsea have the team is not equiped for an open game it is tailor made for a more pragmatic style and l think when teams play consevatively they play into their hands and how poor was terry the most overrated player

It is definitely a three horse race now but I have faith in Arsenal that they can pull it off. Lost just once this season in the PL but has drawn too many games.

Mas,

I'd rather be lucky than good! lol

danielgregg,

I had forgotten about Derek's tabbing of Arsenal fifth so there you go, ursusarctos. Derek's ignorance is forgivable -- he strikes me as an enthusiastic newcomer and thus overly reliant on conventional wisdom gleaned from the same knowledgeable "British" pundits who incessantly hype average players as world-class.

As for Mr. St. Louis, it's never a wise idea for a sportscaster to be a fanboy, especially one of the glaring and nouveau variety. Don't know whether you watched a couple years ago, but he was a LOT worse when Ruud the diving horse -- easily his favouritest and bestest player in the whole wide world -- wore red. Bobby still hasn't broken him of the habit of incorrectly referring to Real Madrid as los galaticos. It used to annoy me, but now I point out to my eight-year-old that using such jargon is a sure sign of newbie ignorance and, as such, it's hard to take anything that he says too seriously. Don't get mad -- just point at the screen and laugh, dg!

Just watching the first half of the Chelsea-Spurs match on Setanta, which has been incredible. TH is right about them missing Gallas.

Honeymoon will be at Los Roques (Venezuela)- a BEAUTIFUL paradise island. Le sigh! Is it June yet?

Meanwhile, Getafe have made it to their second consecutive Copa final.

I hate Valencia, but would prefer SuperGeta to face them than Barcelona.

Seems like only a month ago there were 15 points between us and the top of the BPL. Now it is 11. What I wonder will be the gap in a week and by season's end? Could be the closest finish for years and who will win and be runners up?

Soon enough the CL will be 3 places which will really focus the minds of players and managers alike with four teams vying for those 3 places.

Craigy hope you are well mate.

Hopefully that was enough by Spurs to throw Chelsea off their game for sunday!

Ronaldo is getting damn consistent with that whacky no spin freekick of his. Maybe Portugal does have a chance at this Euros without a pure striker. We can just line up Simao, Nani and Quaresma and have them flop around for freekicks for Ronaldo to hit ;)

Will those stupid bandwagoneers ever have an original thought.
AJ had a groin strain which led to a premature withdrawal.
DM is talking up his players for Capello, really, what manager wants his players swanning off to France for a friendly at this stage of the season?
COYB

ENGLAND
Capello is playing it tight before the squad is announced, push comes to shove it’s a time for the new man to display his stones. With all top four teams playing each other three days later you KNOW that some PL managers will NOT WANT key players risked against the French.
(Perhaps I’m paraphrasing Bobby or someone else on the blog) friendlies are vital to a team that is in a terribly deep hole. They should be time to play around, experiment, see what you have got before the real business of 2010 starts. After all if we can fail to beat Macedonia we can fail to beat anyone. Andorra is a game which should see the team structure and tactics being plain and the business of blooding the team well under way.

RFK IS NOT MY FAVOURITE STADIUM
Still the team that plays football there isn’t half bad and a lovely new pitch and a 5-0 demolition of Harbour Bay (although the Jamaicans did plkay the most odd defensive tactics I’ve seen in an age).
Worth the season ticket price though. The new additions look good.
Come On You United.
Following a team just because of geography – kinda weird.

Some clubs will have relegation clauses in players contracts. Some will have pay cut clauses.

Owen is living on past glories. Take his career as a whole and in his good seasons he was up their with Europe’s best (if not the world)
Rooney is harder to quantify. He was a big lad with a lot of heart and pace and attitude problems. His play was powerful but limited. Ferguson took what DM did and has made Rooney a better player, admittedly (AG hello) his finishing isn’t in the RVN class but his other attributes are vital to the 70 points Man U now have. I think Rooney is overrated if you describe him as ‘world class’ or ‘as good a striker as Owen or Lineker or Rush’. If you ignore the media malecowpooh and look at what he actually does and his age then he’s not half bad.

Luck is a cry for help from someone not coping very well in a big bad world.
Webster talked about “putting his head on the block’ oh we can but dream!
Chance and Luck bear NO relation to each other. You are right about the Chaotic and unpredictable nature of football.

BOBBY
“Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas” that tickled me pink. In the lower 48 some people wouldn’t get that at all.
Dunno what games you’ve seen of Vucinic. Pace is one of his main weapons, eg his terrorizing of Ujfalusi; albeit in smaller bursts to take him past a player.

Wow what a slew of results!

United still have the odd gaffe and started badly but look at them now. Their’s is actually a pretty tough run in.

GOONERSTUFF (August 07)
One of the best club managers in world football, he has been rebuilding of late and this season should see a tougher, stronger more goal hungry Arsenal.

Quality players all over the park, the purveyors of an insanely beautiful game but often profligate in front of goal, if Wenger can find the right finisher North London will be ecstatic. UEFA Champions League knockout stages should be reached. Look for a good FA Cup run and a top three finish.

MORE GOONER STUFF
Rumour (that fashionable old hooer) tells us that Pip is an Arsenal target. Would you have the SA?

The bandwagoneers are still on about it? Just because the lad’s leg broke doesn’t mean it was worse than the “Bardsley tackle”.

Chelsea miss Gallas? Ar5ena1 miss Gallas, or a reasonable facsimile of a quality defender, every time he pulls on a jersey. Please, sign him and Fick Fiwwip Sendewos to long term deals at once.

Stuck for many mind-numbing hours in a hockey arena this day and night watching 15-year-olds being branded the next big thing or a waste of space.

So all I got to see of what all of you seem to agree was a footballing classic was the speed-reading version presented tonight on the FOX Soccer Report. And what a travesty that was.

Every other game had the goals replayed from three different angles and the celebrations of Ronaldo in s-u-u-u-p-p-p-e-r-r-r slo-mo. For ####'s sake, we even had to put up with Dutch ####-plugging highlights from ZuiderZeeEffEffingC.

Rather than lingering just a bit over an eight-goal wonder o####ame. Donkeys.

And you wonder why I sometimes trot out the most disparaging comments about the gang of flatland hillbillies who produce this show?

What a fcuking letdown this show can be when B. McMahon is not on it. After a really well done game showing the Houston-Municipal Concacaf CL game - and well done Max Bretos and friend for solid commentary - we get waiter and busboy - Machado and St. Louise - giving us the dumbest possible soccer news show in history.

Enjoy life in a journalism sweatshop, ladies. You and your colleagues ain't working on Canada's mosquito coast for nothing. Bobby, Run!

Flash huffs and puffs and... fails to realize when your showing highlights of games you do not own the rights to you are limited to the amount of time you are allowed to show highlights... So in the case of last years u20 where this was explained we were sometimes not even given two replays and it seemed like the shots we did get was in fast forward. For a game with 8 goals it would be interesting to know what the time frame they had to jam them all in tonight was.

Its kinda like when you watch sportscenter and the only highlights of the hyped up boxing match of the night they have are pathetic still shots that really don't tell you much.
