No comment from the club on the incident which would lead a cynic to believe that a member of the United staff is involved. We will see.
Craigy_f – 1) The professionalization of referees – your thoughts? 2) Mathematically it’s still wide open but psychologically the title chase seems to have become a two horse race – the bookmakers certainly think so. Wenger may not think so but he’s just playing head games. Neither Manchester nor Arsenal is likely to do what Newcastle did. Your thoughts – not on the results or matches – but the psychological effect of the results on Sunday. 3) Goals, results or refereeing decisions that stand out (good or bad) for you this weekend. 4) The Tunisian side substituted its goalkeeper in the 90th minute then lost the penalty shootout 4-2 – your thoughts on this odd move which went awry. 5) The ‘root and branch’ review promised by the FA seems to have been put on the back burner with the search for and arrival of Capello. Will it be resurrected or conveniently shelved.
Bobby – 1. Something that has to continue and grow. There is no going back to the previous system.
2. United slight boost; Liverpool depressing result; Chelsea just slightly negative with some positives; Arsenal probably happy and a bit relieved that they have finally beaten Chelsea and put some doubt in their minds.
3. I thought Milan were just about at their best – apart from the first goal that they conceded. Liverpool and Manchester United game was a massive disappointment. Hargreaves and Ferdinand are getting praised for their performances – it’s difficult to play badly if you are one of four central defenders. My sense is that Ferguson is giving Europe one more go and he thinks the system that he used against Liverpool is the answer. I also have a feeling that this may turn out to be his last season at United – just a hunch.
4. It has happened before – although I cannot quote the games – and it is something that sounds good in theory but comes with a lot of negatives. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me – sounds like something an inexperienced coach would do.
5. If Capello gets off to a good start then the review will not see the light of day.
Neophyte - Did you see the Barcelona/Valencia match? Eto'o was incredible. Does he get the start this weekend over Henry? As much as I respect the Frenchman's game I just don't think Eto'o should be sitting behind anyone when he is healthy. Your thoughts?
Bobby – I saw the goals but not the game. I don’t think it is a case of playing one or the other and I don’t think Barcelona is looking at either them as a back up to the other.
Atayaagun - I don't see any article mentioning the way Fabio Capello has managed Beckham at Real Madrid. It proved that Capello has badly ignored a very talented played that he had in his squad. It was thanks to Beckham's great form that Real Madrid managed to clinch the La Liga title. Business wise, Capello's treatment to Beckham made Real Madrid miss out huge money by the way Beckham left Madrid to LA Galaxy. Are these things minor elements in the selection process of a new manager to England? Especially because Steve McClaren has made the same mistake by initially dropping the same player, David Beckham.
Bobby – Capello was responsible for the team at Real Madrid not the business side of it. I would be very surprised if the issue came up at all in the decision to hire Capello. McClaren made the decision to drop Beckham because he thought it would give him the aura of being the man in charge. It was also because most England supporters at the time wanted Lennon to replace Beckham – something that has been conveniently forgotten.
CIAO - Is there any possibility for Larsson to end up at Arsenal? I think his inclusion in the squad would bolster the line up without taking away from it. It would help Wenger keep his forwards fresh leading into the second half of the season.
Bobby – None whatsoever. Wenger has Adebayor, Van Persie, Bendtner, Eduardo as front line strikers with Hleb and Walcott who can play just off the main striker. Wenger’s bigger problem is keeping his players happy – not bringing in more players.
Milan4ever - In the Champions League, why are some away teams allowed to leave their sponsor's name and logo on their jerseys while some are not?
Bobby – Another poster has mentioned advertising laws in some countries affecting alcohol products. There is also another possibility. In cases where team sponsors are in conflict with any of the Champions League sponsors. I don’t know for sure but I would expect that teams would not be allowed to “ambush” UEFA sponsors.
Oldcoach - Sports psychology and England. Do I detect a humorous jab on your part? The "dramedy" that is England's pursuit of international hardware has to be the longest running and most amusing soap opera in world history, fuelled in large part by a delusion and hyper active press corps. Is there even the slightest chance that the media will back off some with a hard man like Capello in charge?
Bobby – No jab. I am surprised that we don’t read more about sports psych and football as I know that it a rapidly growing field in relation to other sports. Capello will have an extended honeymoon period but if there is any sign of blood in the water after a couple of games the sharks will start to feed.
Neophyte - Crazy question. I once heard a rumor that Capello was looked at for a "Technical Director" for the USMNT. Then the rumor was gone as fast as it occurred. Do you think that England hiring a non-Englishman for their National Team will bring more precedent for the same thing happening in the US?
Bobby – Crazy rumour. I very much doubt that Capello applied for such a job or was interested in any way. Your question seems to be predicated on Capello being the first foreign manager of England which he is not. If it was to make a difference we would have seen it after Eriksson was hired – and it didn’t change anything.
Atayaagun - I am always astonished by the number of goals scored on free kicks. Several of these goals are due to a bad wall. For example, small players should never be part of a wall, but you still see them in the world highest level matches. But the worst, is to see a wall open up, leaving the goal keeper powerless when the ball "goes through" the wall. That's how Gerrard easily scored against Arsenal this season. And there are many goals like this one because of such a fundamental mistake. If a player is part of a wall, why move? The wall is expected to stay compact, even if the free kick is taken indirectly. The players should have faith in the keeper, and they should stick to their task. For instance, during yesterday’s match between Arsenal and Chelsea, Shevchenko’s powerful free kick that was directed to the part that the wall was not covering, was brilliantly saved by Almunia. My question is why such basic things do not seem to be addressed by the best teams in the world, since every aspect of the game is expected to be analyzed and taken care of? I am so puzzled that I believe someone should gather all these goals and put them in a DVD and title it: "The evidence that top football players don't understand some rudiments of the game." Even thought, the free kick takers do understand very well this specific flaw. That's the reason why some free kicks are directed towards the wall, in case it cracks!
Bobby – In theory you have a point – from a practical point of view I am not so sure. You don’t want small players in the wall – then where are you going to put them? Do you really want a small player up against a centre back? A big player on the end of the wall - yes. Banishing all smal players from the wall - the little buggers will just let you down someplace else!
Your thoughts are based on a direct shot on goal being the only option but that is rarely the case. A shot, a cross, a lay off, a trick are all possibilities.
The dynamics of a free kick are going to change significantly based on the position of free kick, the taker (left foot, right foot, a bender, a rocket), the weather conditions (surface, wind direction) , opposition in the wall or the vicinity, and other factors.
There is also another thing you need to consider. How many goals are averted by the wall breaking and the shot being blocked? It is like saying that goalkeepers should just stand in the middle of the goal and not move on penalty kicks because so many go down the middle. They would save some but would they save more than by diving to one side or the other?
Shevchenko’s shot was saved because he did what Almunia thought – unfortunately not all players cooperate. Ronaldinho in the same circumstance would have put the ball in the keepers top right hand corner with Almunia frozen to the spot.
WeneedmoreFriedel - I'm interested to hear your current thoughts about Shevchenko. How do you see his future at Chelsea, or his playing career for that matter? Is there a possibility he would ever consider going to MLS to end his career?
Bobby – I just can’t see it turning round for Shevchenko at Chelsea. I thought a loan deal might be best for him but with Drogba out I think he will be sticking around. His wife is American so MLS at some point is an option. However, some point is not now.
Neophyte – Ringo, we all know you were a Beatle in the 60's, a Sex Pistol in the 70's. In the 80's were you known as Ranking Ringo...dressed in a pink suit, loafers and shades following your favorite Ska band from pub to pub? Can you see Bobby with a Flock of Seagulls hair doo? Or was he more of the Rod Stewart type during the 80's? Which was it Bobby?
Bobby – None of the above. By the 80s it was Captain Sensible for me.
Ringo - Which blogs do you read? How many World Cups and Euros will England win under Capello? And what was on your football wish list to Father Christmas?
Djnima - 1. With Hleb and Van Persie back in the mix and Eboue now sidelined, do you see Wenger using Van Persie and Adebayor up front w/ Hleb slotted on the right? 2. Did u catch the Arsenal Blackburn match? Eduardo looks deadly. I think he is going to be huge for Arsenal down the road. 3. Do you think Utd will be on top in the New Year? They seem to have an easier schedule than the rest of the big four, but I think Arsenal is looking fierce as well.
Bobby – 1. It is an option that you will likely see but will he use these three in these positions every game with no changes?– no I don’t think so. Walcott and a number of other players come into the equation as well. So does the oposition and state of the game.
2. I did. The way he rolls the ball into the net reminds me of Jimmy Greaves and Romario.
3. The fixtures for the top six from now to and including the first game in the New Year are: Manchester United – Everton (h), Sunderland (a), West Ham (a) and Birmingham (h). Arsenal – Spurs (h), Portsmouth (a), Everton (a), West Ham (h). Chelsea – Blackburn (a), Aston Villa (h), Newcastle (h), Fulham (a). Liverpool – Portsmouth (h), Derby (a), Manchester City (a), Wigan (h). Everton – Manchester United (a), Bolton (h), Arsenal (h), Middlesbrough (a). Manchester City – Aston Villa (a), Blackburn (a), Liverpool (h), Newcastle (a).
I went back over the last four seasons and looked at how Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have done over the last four seasons. Not surprisingly they have done pretty well. Each team played four games over the holiday season – 03/04 first with the total in ().
Manchester United – 12, 10, 8 and 10 (40). Arsenal – 8, 10, 8 and 9 (35). Chelsea – 6, 12, 12 and 6 (36). Liverpool 7, 9, 10 and 9 (35).
I would be surprised if Arsenal is leading the Premiership when the 3rd round of the FA Cup comes around in January.
Atletifan - Can Atleti really break into the top 2 of La Liga?
Bobby – I would echo Atleti’s comments. The one thing I would add is that of the major leagues in Europe Spain over the last decade has been the hardest the pick and the league title has rotated through a few teams with others coming close. Deportivo, Valencia have both won titles while Villarreal and Sevilla have given it a good shot.
Oddly enough Auntie's webpages are full of "what's wrong with english football" articles. - the whole issue has recieved a publicity boost in the past few days but the usual malaise in actually doing something still seems to be in place (a la the NFC). If Mr Turnip's failure wasn't enough to kick english football up the backside then I don't know what is?
- Anderson is the only 19yo united player not out on loan
To answer Craigys question from the previous blog.
No
Wenger used the young players in the League Cup final last year and its the same this year as far as they go. I had the same conversation with a Chelsea fan at the pub today and it just doesn't make sense to risk any of the top talent in the League cup when there are 3 more important competitions. Barazite dislocated his shoulder today and Denilson got a straight red. Wenger really wouldn't want that to happen to any of his starting XI and miss a crucial Prem, CL or FA cup game. It's not like you can put Cesc or RVP in the starting lineup and tell them to play hard and win but make sure not to get injured or collect any cards.
Also to put it in perspective Arsenal plays 9 games in 29 days of December averaging a game every 3.25 days. Thats the most for all the teams in the prem with 1 more game on Pool and Chelsea for the game in hand they had to make up against Newcastle and 2 more then Man U who snuck out of the League cup way back against Coventry.

Thanks for the response Bobby. Although Schevchenko has had problems in the premiership, I think his skill is still apparent, he just seems to get unlucky; I would love to see him in MLS.
What are your thoughts about Blackburn's recent troubles? They don't seem to be as solid, and seem lost in defense. Also, how does Mark Hughes manage to get an incredible striker like Roque Santa Cruz for so cheap? Do you think Hughes will be able to keep Santa Cruz at Blackburn after this season? Another player the has surprised me has been Christopher Samba, I think he was a great pickup.
Bobby- I have to ask about James Milner. Although other posters have disagreed that he is one of the most underrated players in the premiership, I think he is. I have to say he seems to always play consistently well, and is an incredible crosser of the ball. He seems to be a very similar player to David Bently. Do you believe that either Bently or Milner have a future with the senior England squad?
I rate Milner over Bentley and if he wasn't already at a larger club getting time Liverpool would have to take a serious look at him over Kewell who's experiment has to end.
He had an amazing highlight this weekend where he turned the defender inside out twice and did the smart thing whipping in a hard cross. Proves he has the IQ also, a more selfish player would cut in and try a horrible angle shot.

jayalves - ok -
9 games in december isn't that much, we of course play nine games in december as well and like arsenal will field a more junior version when we can get away with it (for us that will be against AZ Alkamaar - top of group already acheived so we can give a run out to the younger chaps)
although he(wenger) did play more of his "seniors" in the final last season - we can surmise that if the second stringers & first team irregulars (calling them youngsters is a bit of a misnomer - denilson is hardly a spring chicken) get to a final the side may be bolstered by the likes of Cesc if Silverware is at stake.
atleti - talk still bubbles about bringing manny fernandez back to goodison
aliadiare & tuncay @ boro - injured x 2
earnshaw - @ derby - injured + 3.5m
bellamy @ west ham - injured and 7.5m
smudger @ toon - not that good
kieran richardson @ sunderland - for 5.5m?
bramble @ wigan - he's a Championship defender at best
nugent @ pompey - another Championship player
gordon @ sunderland - it could have been worse he could have signed with derby
kaboul @ spurs - not that good
bent @ spurs - @16.6m
faubert @ hammers - injured
malouda @ chelsea - injured and he doesn't fit into the way chelsea play
I don't agree with people saying Eduardo's struggling in the Premiership. He's just not getting enough playing time. If Eduardo played as much as Adebayor for example, nobody would be saying Eduardo was struggling because he would be scoring goals on a consistant basis. When you actually start a player for half a season and not every 10th game, and he's still not putting up numbers, then you can really say he's struggling. In any case, hopefully Eduardo will get a lot more playing in the future.
One thing is for sure, Eduardo is good enough to be at least on the bench and not left out like it was during the Chelsea game.
Werder Bremen's Ivan Klasnic. The Croatian international had three kidney transplants and after being told he could never play soccer again, to come back in such a way was impressive. He scored two goals and had an assist in the thumping of Bayer Leverkusen. If Klasnic continues playing like he used to and other Croat strikes (not including Eduardo) continue firing on all cylinders, it will be a very good summer indeed.
Another Werder player worth mentioning was Diego. After this guy moves to a bigger club, people are going to start saying, "Kaka who"?
Bobby, word spreads quickly here in Toronto that a broad base of EPL games will be once again be made available to mass audiences as Canada's largest cable delivery system, Rogers, moves to include the Setanta feed on its basic cable service.
What do Setanta have that Fox owner Rupert Murdoch lacks? Are you concerned this will have a negative impact on the dozens of viewers(Hundreds, shurely. Ed.) currently plugged into Fox Sports World Canada? Will you have to broaden your approach and begin writing International Fight League forecasts? Will Jeremy St. Louis have to revive his dream of becoming the public address announcer at Brandon's Keystone Centre(Go Wheaties!)? Will the words maitre d' and Carlos Machado become synomous?
And will your show EVER get rid of the ridiculous giant gold graphic bars that are used to hide vast chunks of replays?
Last edited by flashman on December 18th at 11:57 PM.
Flashman - Word may travel quickly but whether it has any truth to it is another matter. If you are suggesting that Setanta Canada is suddenly going to appear on basic cable and $15 a month will disappear then start responding to e mails from Nigeria. The sales pitches made jointly by Setanta and Rogers Sportsnet to television signal providers last summer was based on a premium digital channel at $14.99 per month. The station licensed by the CRTC a few months ago as Sportsnet 2 (essentially a rebranded Setanata Canada) was I believe a category 2 digital channel not a basic cable channel. But if you would like to provide more detailed informaton on your information source then I am sure we would all be interested.
What do Setanta have that Fox owner Rupert Murdoch lacks? - huge losses.
News Corp owns FSC and other Fox stations in the USA. FSWC is owned by Canwest Global with no participation from News Corp. FSWC has been written off many times in the last six years but it is still there. Anyone who thinks that Canwest Global is just going to turn the lights out on a license doesn't have much business insight.
My turn - Will we ever hear from you in the middle of a Spurs slump?
well I read the webpage wrong and jonny evans is not on loan to sunderland (as he was last year) DOH!
he is fact 19 and lo and behold...
"Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is being questioned about an alleged rape at a hotel in Manchester city centre, the BBC has learned."
thanks Auntie
Hey Bobby. First of all let me say I dont usually comment on here but today I have alot I want to get off my chest. These people out there talking about fabio capello should not be appointed because he is not english should shut-up and sit back and enjoy the ride. They should be grateful Mr. Capello even wants the job they should be flattered but instead they go on about it hurting the english game and that its disrespectful to english managers. to be honest I dont think any english manager is good enough for the job( Harry has never won anything neither has curbishley so what qualifies them I am dying to know) I even heard some people saying that even though Mr. Capello is the most qualified they should still give it to a englishman come on give me a bloody break are u people retarded. And really when I sit down and think about it england doesnt need the best coach in the world just a smart and motivational respected tactician (All english managers still dont qualify) and Steve "Uhhhh which way did he go which way did he go" Mclaren was the worst choice they could possibly make just give him a lifetime supply of FA umbrellas and coffee and send him on his way. The problem with the english team at least in my lowly opinion is that the english players only know one type of football "english football" these guys need to test themselves outside of england in Serie A and La Liga even Holland I'M SERIOUS When england play international football they are not playing against england they are playing agianst the likes of Italy Spain Holland Greece russia and there dearest friends C

I’m wondering if Arsenal will be charged by the FA with failing to control their players , after approx.62 of them attacked the referee last night when he sent off Denilson .
Or does that rule only apply to a certain other London team?
Craigy – I don’t see any problems with today’s game ,and I hope to draw the other redshiite in the semi’s.
And I don’t care if they play their league cup
u-12 side again ,anyone with a red and white shirt on will be considered a legitimate target.
Craigy-While we would be funny, we would only be the opening act as you try to prove you don't have red envy. That would be the funniest thing yet. Just go to your blog, I think theres more about Liverpool than any other club! To be honest, Everton has just as many points and they aren't even on our radar.
The injuries are starting to come for the blue ####, you starting to worry yet? This is where Everton lacks, its called depth...
Actually when I think about maybe you have LGB envy... :)
Funny article. I like how he turns a push in the box which happens on every corner into wrestling. Thats some good Chelsea propaganda. If spurs weren't in the next round I would love to draw Chelsea in the semis assuming they get past Pool but we will wait and see.
And sorry that I forgot Everton Craigy thats true those Uefa games have rammed their schedule also. But yes 9 games in one month is allot unless you rotate in fresh legs. Interesting that the last game of each teams 9 game run is... against each other. Should be a good one on the 29th. Just for comparison Arsenal didn't play more then 8 games in a single month last year. Even with the Carling double semi and 2 Fa cup games last Jan they played 8 games. Last year spurs played 9 in December. They went 6 wins 3 losses in that month and then in Jan went 2-4-2 with their only wins coming in the FA cup against Cardiff and Southend. The average form carried on into Feb with 2 more losses until they had their longest break in 2 months and thumped Fullham in the FA cup 4-0. Rest and squad depth matter. They might be the only team who played 9 in December last year that I can find.
As for last years Carling Cup final the only first squad players that were in were Cesc and Kolo. With sub appearances by Eboue Hleb and Adebayor. I think the only difference this year is in the semis we wont see as many Academy players on the bench.

ringo - utterly brilliant! of course the other old etonians might have to make a suprise visit to Mr Smith; probably when it's it's dark and stormy, and they'll probably have their fa. gs. with them
- and of course being old etonians the police will be 'otherwise engaged' - maybe investigating JT for 'gbh', or Petr Cech for 'obstruction of justice'
Since David Beckham appeared in a national advertising campaign wearing tight Y-fronts, sales have gone up by a whopping 260% and they are now outselling the brand's more conservatively-styled boxer shorts. (The Sun) - nuff said
Ladies - keep your shirts on please - Arsenal and Everton to contest the final of the Women's Premier League Cup (whatever that is?) Now as a gooner ag, I'm sure you have an opinion on this game.
The table is just too wierd in the FA Tesco Women's Premier League - leaders, Bristol have played 15, second place Arsenal have only played 8 - and the Arsenal ladies goal difference is twice that of the leaders?
I have an opinion on the Arsenal ladies, they are awesome. With my favorite keeper Emma Byrne and the best female player in the world (besides Marta and the Mexican lady who plays for Barca) Jane Ludlow.
I am serious, i have watched them play 3 times and they are great. Very offensive and entertaining.
Hey RINGO, what is up? my boss is from London, a lifelong Chelsea supporter. He harbors no ill will towards Arsenal. According to him they have never had a bad natured rivalry. Why are you so outraged by them recently?
"(calling them youngsters is a bit of a misnomer - denilson is hardly a spring chicken) "
Denilson is 19. Did you mean Gilberto?
Wenger will stick with the young ones; the old man on the pitch last night for Arsenal was Eduardo at 24. He really didn't play many of his first XI in last year's final (Toure and Fabergas, and don't forget Fabergas really emerged last year). To paraphrase what he said last year, how would it be fair to the team that brought us to the final to not play in the final?
lgb - gravesen for osman - no worries
lescott at lb - jags in the middle with stubbs as cover
and as for strikers - vaughn, anichebe, yakubu, johnson, mcfadden...
30 players in the squad (not including those out on loan) odly enough that's what the rs have?
depth - yes that's why you bring hobbs into a game - hardly a match for our defensive back ups
then of course we have been keeping some good youngsters under wraps.
we've been flying under the radar for decades - we like it that way...####. k. fleet street writing it's turgid bollix about us - we don't need a brown nosed press massaging us - don't worry though "top four" and "big four" are almost the same
efc game summaries 15 -
rs game summaries 7 (one of which was the derby)
of course when I learnt my mathematics 15 was a much bigger number than 7 - maybe you should speak to your senator/governor/congressman about the shocking state of your state's education system - basic maths is usually seen as important - obviously not in the schools you attended.
any half decent rs supporter would know that noses wouldn't ever get bleeped in a football blog - maybe your english is as bad as your mathematics.
Still there is always comedy.
jay - having seen the schedule for december I was shocked, lots of games in a short time is tough and the weather is likley to be cacky as well. SO far we haven't lost in december and this week's result against AZ doesn't matter. It's a good situation to be in though. 29th will be a good game - last season we beat you at goodison.

Having a hard time finding a goalie. Lets put in Scott Carson for his game against Croatia :p
Titus Bramble. The fee was 'Free' but even if hes paid in peanuts its too much.
Ben Haim. Also free but also fat. I'm not sure what he exactly excels at defensively besides knowing how to take professional fouls when hes beat. They loaned out Boulahrouz then replaced him.
Steve Sidwell. Not sure if this was a horrible signing for Chelsea but more a horrible signing for his own career. The last time he started was late October and he came on as a sub 5 times since and has played a whopping 58 minutes around. I hope hes enjoying the money at least.
Kieron Dyer not sure the price?? Why pay and inflated price for a English player who's most consistent trait is injuries.
Joey Barton. 5.5m? for a guy who might still do some jail time has been injured for the majority of the season so far and talks more junk then he plays.
Darren Bent. 16.5m? 10 starts 10 subs 5 goals. And one horrible scuffed shot against Arsenal.
Rolando Bianchi. 8.8m? 7 starts 9 subs 4 goals. He could be good once he adjusts but then ManCity go and loan Nerry Castillo...
David Nugent. 6m?? 4 starts 7 subs 2 goals. Victim of being overrated and overpaid because he is English. I knew he was a fraud when he stole his first English goal with the ridiculous tap in. At least hes not going to the African nations Cup?
thats 9 players need another 2 at least 1 defender no strikers to make a 11.

mas - do you know why the disparity in games played for the ladies?
What is the Premier League Cup equivalent to?
Both Arsenal & Everton appear to be stuffed with internationals - how do you see it going - purely based on the few stats I looked at this morning it looks like Arsenal are behemoths in front of goal.
8p 8w f37 a 3 four goal a game is pretty impressive.
getz - sorry - I'm suffering from 'red envy'.
if they get to the final will cesc et al be brought in?
lgb - behemoth is a word meaning BIG! That's also a comedy film with Tom Hanks!
jay - Moyes was well satisified when he didn't sign Nugent. "The Nugget" is the nickhame of Steve Davis - a boring yet exceptionally talented snooker player - he might support Charlton FC

My mathematics ability and vocabulary are all being brought into question by a blues supporter?
Well lets see how good my math skills are...
18 is more than 9
7 is more than 5
7 is more than 0
3 is more than 0
and finally:
5 is more than 0
As for the vocab lets test this out with three sentences/questions:
Q: Which is the last team to win a trophy?
A: Liverpool
Q: When was the last time I wrote a blog about Everton?
A: Never. I don't waste my time with small clubs.
Q: When was the last time Everton played in a big game?
A: The last time they played Liverpool. Its the only big games Everton has to look forward to all year because their BEHEMOTH neighbors set the benchmark every year.
"if they (Arsenal) get to the final will cesc et al be brought in?"
I doubt it. Wenger does not care about the Carling Cup and the Arsenal supporters do not care about the Carling Cup. It would be nice, but the supporters want the other three available pieces of metal. Maybe Walcott or Toure?
Plus, the youngsters are packed with talent. With what was on the field yesterday, they can win against the remaining teams on any given day. They are nowhere near the consistency of the first XI, but what EPL team would not consider taking some players like Eduardo, Bendtner, Denilson, and Diaby? I bet Chelsea would love to have Eduardo and/or Bendtner considering their striker dilema.
this is a continuation of my previous post. I dont know I guess there is a size limit on a single post so heres the rest
----------------------------------- ----------------
Croatia etc. and when these countries play their type of football which is more technical and polished and they start to ram it down englands throat they look scared and puzzled Why? Because that type of football is foreign to them. For instance Englands last game against croatia, The only goal england scored in open play was created by the only english player who plays outside of england and has been doing so for a long time David Beckham. Now alot of people say he is done but when u sit down and think about it he is braver than Gerrard Lampard Rooney etc. Do u think any of these guys would play outside of england? No way they are to scared and their wives and girlfriends would not allow it so when u consider it Posh ####e is even braver than these guys. I am sure Italy Spain and russia and the other big countries all have at least one to three players who play outside their domestic leauge so when they come up against england they are comfortable but when england plays other countries they are dumfounded they need different experiences come on we live in a very cosmopolitan world where lines of divided are very thin and blurry and this applies to football as well they need diversity and a different look to their game Capello will bring this to them and Most of all they need some GUTS.
You seem a little edgy lately. The holiday season got you down? Letting down your guard? A little of both?
Anyway, I'm not sure if it's good or bad yet, but I first read the ManU Christmas Party story last night on an American sports blog. Good that a blog mostly devoted to American sports is paying attention to a real man's (and woman's) game. Bad because "soccer" only gets attention in this country when something bad happens.
I'm skeptical whenever I hear stories like this (wasn't C. Ronaldo accused of rape a couple years back?). It's really bad for women who actually get attacked in that "boy who cried wolf" kinda way. Most sexual assaults aren't reported as is, and any added negativity or stress from coming forward is only going to act to dissuade women from reporting these barbaric crimes.
I always enjoy Soccernet's Euro writers - Phil Ball on Spain, Uli Whatever on Germany, and Roberto Gotta on Italy.
I have been waiting and waiting for Roberto Gotta's Capello/England column. What are he and his editors waiting for? His is the only opinion left that I actually want to hear.
(Not that any of you know, but I know you all read tons of blogs/web sites/etc and understand where I'm coming from)

I don't think Ronaldo has ever been accused. You might be confusing him with RVP who was and even charged in the Netherlands I think but the charges were eventually dropped.
everyone feel free to argue for or against players for the worst XI signings. I ran out of steam looking for names as some of the best(worst) candidates are invisible on their teams like Dyer and Nugent and you even forget that they have moved teams or even exist.
whats the deal with the WHOOPS. This blog can become very hard to even read or post when only 1/5 times it even works. I'd write a email but I'm afraid it would say WHOOPS after I tried to send it.

l honestly think blackburn do not have a good defensive midfilder as savage is nolonger any good, if they get a good defensive midfilder then they will be consistent for 10+ odd games
After taking the #### on Tuesday night's report intro - show an Arsenal goal, show a Spurs red-card incident - it was no surprise to hear the hosts gush on about how Arsenal's kindergarten korps do well, how young this kid is and how sick that other kid was, what they want for Xmas, but no mention of an even more timely development.
In Spurs last two away wins, a winning and a clinching goal were set up on, what is widely acknowledged in British media, great plays by a young Englishman who is a product and graduate of the club academy - Ladies and gentlemen, I give you 21-year-old Jamie O'Hara. One for Capello to watch.
As for the shifting fortunes of Setanta in Candaa: The best sources are often those connected with money.
When prominent sponsorship positions are being batted back and forth, with a view to breaking open this ridiculous, failing, fee-charging Setanta deal within Canada, I would take it seriously.
And clients down the curling club have been asking me some intriguing questions, along the lines of whether this 'soccer thing' is worth getting involved with.
'Fings break, wot? 'Fings can change.
And as for FSWC, let me speak on behalf of myself and friends who despair at the growing unwatchability of this station. Sorry to make you the target of tart criticisms, because you are the sole redeeming aspect of the soccer sportscasts. Other than the occasional glimpse of Nature's Most Perfect Woman - SkySports vixen Nathalie Sawyer - there's precious little reaso

...there's precious little reason to watch. Because we sure as heck aren't getting any EPL games from you, which was the initial reason for signing up. How long can you hang onto Serie A games and if so, how much Catania can we stand?
And, if Arsenal is this all-conquering world brand nowadays, how come in he midst of Toronto's massive, soccer-devouring diversity - in what is no less than the third or fourth biggest soccer marketplace in North America - there isn't ONE official Arsenal bar or pub.
Spurs have got one and it's the bee's nuts. Liverpool and ManU as well. Rangers and Celtic have more than one, plenty of others from all sorts of cultures. Easy to find, too.
But nowt for club l'arse.

Watching the Pool Chelsea game on a live feed from China and the analyst at halftime isn't wearing a suit. Hes wearing a Liverpool cap with a neon yellow Chelsea away jersey while the other guy has a red pool shirt on. If thats not confusing enough they have a bunch of crests and banners around the studio which are awkwardly placed half in and out of frames.
Most of the commercials are for liqour, mainly brandys and whisky and a KFC meal bucket costs 69 yaun apparently.
This has all been more entertaining then the actual game. Why did I convince myself again that a Chelsea Pool game might be good to watch.
Jackie Chan is in a Beijing 2008 commercial but he didn't do anything cool which is even more anti-climatic then the game.
They also have Juicy fruit and UPS in China. HP runs the same laptop commercials they do here but minus the celebrity cameo!
Johnny walker black label! and the same Martell cordon blue commercial for the 2-3rd time.
Toyota seems to be the only car company advertising.
That was a pretty exciting half time and crash course in what Chinese tv is like. I'm not sure if the actual game can compete.
wow Peter Crouch wow. I honestly dont think the man is in control of his own limbs.
The only thing I took from the first half of interest was how electric Babel can look on the ball and Arsenal might be regretting what he turns into a couple years down the line. The only defense is 11m was allot for a player who's still a prospect. Of course as I type this he skies a horrible shot 20 yards sideways.

Overall another bad performance by the men in Red...Rafa really has to ditch that 4-3-3 formation! Or use it properly with another winger instead of Voronin or Kuyt out on the right!

Thanks, LGB. I didn't realize it wasn't Reina. I am at work and was barely watching a tiny screened Setanta Broadband stream... turned to look at it and said to myself, "Is that Ballack? Why is he dancing? Holy ####, is that a cross to Sheva?"
