Henry14 - Do you think Henry is finished, because he is not playing like he used to, what is your verdict on Henry, is he going down? Do Buffon and Henry receive anything, for being runners up to the Ballon D'Or - or they are just named, and what is your take on who deserves the award.
Bobby – Henry not playing like he used to still makes him a better player than 99.5% of the players in the Premiership. Finished – yes….. in around ten years time! I have no idea what second and third place receive – maybe a years subscription to France Football? Cannavaro should have won the Golden Ball at the World Cup. However, I don’t think he has been Europe’s outstanding player over the last 11 months
Neophyte - Heskey is an amazing player with a rocket of a leg. I don't know how long his contract is but he may not be playing at the JJB for long or they will have to shell out some serious cash for his services. Bobby -- are you surprised by Wigan? Would you buy Heskey? (provided he comes back from his calf injury)
Bobby – Wigan will continue to have their ups and downs. I picked them to finish 15th come season’s end and I still think that they will finish close to that spot. As for Emile Heskey – I will turn to Tommy Docherty for inspiration. Back when a million pounds was a million pounds he was asked about a player who was being hyped on a regular basis. The Doc’s quote went something like this “They tell me that 2 million wouldn’t buy him, and I am one of them”. Heskey was given all the physical tools but he has never known what to do with them. His managers have been relegated to talking up his strong defensive qualities – which is fine except he is supposed to be a striker. His career average has been a goal every four games and his record with Wigan is about the same.
As for a rocket of a leg, is that why he constantly falls over? Maybe if he had a pair of leg rockets he could balance better.
davard - How much does qualifying for the UEFA cup get anyone? (if anything) Obviously the knockout rounds are the more lucrative ones, but is the reward anywhere near as lucrative as the champs. league?
Bobby – It is difficult to make apple-to-apple comparisons because Champions League pay outs are largely dictated by market pay outs that are largely based on how much television revenue is generated in a teams home market and which rounds the teams from that market reach.
For UEFA Cup qualifiers the payment system is - the clubs get gate money and the right to sell some of the TV rights. Celtic estimated that their run to the 2003 final earned them about $18M but you have to consider that a lot of that would be gate money that many other teams would not be able to generate. Another comparison is that Celtic and Rangers have used in the past is that if they don’t qualify for the Champions League group stage then they need to reach the semi final of the UEFA Cup in order to compensate.
Overall though, the UEFA Cup is small potatoes compared to the Champions League.
Realmadridcffan1. With Canada hosting the FIFA World Under 20 soccer championships next year in Canada, what do you think will the CSA define as an acceptable performance for the Canadian Squad? 2. Who do you think will be Canada's next coach of the Men's National team? and what type of qualities should the next coach of the national team should have?3. Who do you think is the most overrated and underrated goalkeeper currently playing at a club level right now?
Bobby – 1. Canada has to qualify from the group stages (given that 16 of 24 make it that should not be difficult), an exit in the last 16 would be spun as a success by the CSA but it would not be, last 8 would be about right, anything after that a massive over achievement.
2. I have no idea and I don’t think that the CSA has much choice given the mickey-mouse reputation that they enjoy internationally. Even after the changes at the top I can’t see the CSA offering a competitive wage and so the choice will be between foreign “damaged-goods” or a North American who is willing to put up with inadequate funding and resources. The new CSA President can talk all he wants about making the national men’s team a priority but until he walks the talk I remain skeptical.
3. Given that club level in Europe covers 50 plus countries and who knows how many teams and goalkeepers I can’t answer that question.
Davard - I don't know if you saw that one but I'd love to know what you thought of your female countrymen getting booted out of the cup by a last gasp penalty.
Bobby – Didn’t watch it – don’t care.
Henry14 - l have seen linesmen come into the field to align proper positions of free kick and corners l have one thing that makes me wonder, why do they not stop the ball from going far from where the throw in is taken. Do you know why? What do you make of the Sun's claims about Sheva?
Bobby – Because their job requires them to be level with the last line of defense. When you see them come onto the field it is almost exclusively because the ball is in the corner. People read/look at the Sun for two reasons and they are both on page 3.
USAEnglandfan - The hot topic right now is Man Utd's depth up front. Personally I think it's pretty urgent in the midfield too. Fletcher/O'Shea are great cover guys but they don't have much else. Where do they need support more and can they possibly reinforce both areas in January? Also, I'm a huge fan of some of the crowd chants in the prem. BBC has a few great ones in their Quotes of the Week this week. Exactly how are they conceived? Are they made up on the spot? Do you recall any that you'd say are the funniest?
Bobby – I think in the aftermath of Sunday’s game for fans are looking at the relative depth of the two squads. As Alan Parry and David Pleat pointed out on Sunday, United didn’t have a player that they could bring on who could change the game. Solskjaer might have been that player if he had been fit. Alan Smith is never going to be a top drawer midfield player or cover for Saha. His best performances with Leeds tended to be in a support type role ala Wayne Rooney. I can’t see how United can battle on two fronts with their squad and how are they going to get the money to buy impact players?
There is usually a core of fans who take it on to conceive the chants and then others pick them up. Many are traditional and have been handed down while there is also a regular stream of new ones built around news or gossip. One of the primary differences I found between British and North American sport audiences was the humour or to be more accurate in terms of North America the lack of humour.
As for chants – “He’s short, he’s fat, he’s going to get the sack – Advocaat, Advocaat” by Celtic fans to Rangers boss #### Advocaat has stuck with me.
There are a number of legendary ones. After Leeds United keeper Gary Sprake literally threw the ball into his own net during a game at Anfield in the late 60’s the Kop sang “Careless Hands” which was a pop song of the time.
USAEnglandfan - There was recently a high-profile college football (American) game here (I think it involved Missouri), and in the dying minutes there was an iffy penalty call which allowed the trailing side to score a touchdown and win. The officials issued a statement recently saying, and I quote, "We blew it." Perhaps it is because video technology has all but eliminated incorrect calls in the sport, but American football refs seem to be respected more and much more in the periphery of the sport (where refs should be) than world football. Granted, the stop-and-go nature of American football lends itself much better to video technology, but when the mistakes are made, this type of statement issued by the officials at this college game is absolutely unheard of in world football. Do you think under-fire referees like Poll would do well to get off their high horse and own up to their mistakes or would it just damage their authority and future job prospects?
Bobby – Didn’t a referee issue an apology after incorrectly awarding a goal against Middlesbrough last season – against West Ham perhaps?
AlexMorph - Just how much longer do we have to suffer Sepp Blatter for? Can he run again for the presidency, and if so is there a realistic challenger to replace him (perhaps a donkey or Kermit the Frog?). Why is it that contenders for these big positions can never have a moderate stance on things. Platini, Johansson, and Blatter all make stupid comments.Plus, is there any chance that Beckenbauer might throw in his lot in the near future?
Bobby – Despite his promise to only run for two terms, old Sepp has decided that soccer cannot do without him and he will run again next year – without a credible challenger in sight. Beckenbauer is a notable absentee from the UEFA election and there is no way I could see him running against Blatter. My guess is that Beckenbauer is angling for 2011. His opponent in five years time might turn out to be Jack “get your tickets here” Warner.
Henry14 - l think we all know the sky sports ratings, do you know which player had the highest average in Premiership history for an entire season and by which value?
Bobby – Give up, who is it?
To bigdavedisaster – I hope your sister made the comment with her tongue firmly in her cheek.
HAHAHAHHA bobby your comment on the Sun is classic. re: the ref thing, I think we can agree that this is a veeeery rare occurence. re: chants, I love it. I think the best one I've heard in the states was at a high school football game. A group of students known as the 'bomb squad' would devise chants regularly for home games. Its a private school so they had admissions tests and what not, and in a game against another private school (Notre Dame), they all joined together in singing "ND was our safety school, doo daaa doo daaa, ND was our safety school, oh de doo dah day"
With regard to ref's owning up to their mistakes, over the years I've seen it a handful of times, but I've also seen where the ref has rescinded a yellow or red card because after review he realized his error.
Bobby there is a lot of controvesy surrounding the award by fifa and the european one, do you feel that all countries should equally have the same voting power, because for instance l was born in Africa and visit there quite a lot, some of the guys remember zizoe in the world cup 1998, they do not watch, champions leauge or laliga, and the top leauges and l think that explains why zizoe is around this time around.do you think that it should be made by a panel of football experts who decide who gets the award

First, would be "We all live in a Robbie Fowler house" to the tune of Yellow Submarine.
Second, was from when I was at a major college hockey school. Whenever the referee and linesmen came on the ice, students would sing along to the pep band playing the song Three Blind Mice. USAEngland, we also would chant safety school to opponents...including Harvard.
the gunners are f***d up l do not believe they are staring another defeat in the face.there is something wrong with the team, either the team is highly overated or song and flamini should be put on the transfer list

all the 'BACK FIRING GUNNERS' fans where are you?????Mr.Extraordinary tell me whats wrong with your team. Some one on BBC's blogs said your team depends on 'KING HENRY' too much as a result the young ones do not shine as much as they should. Whats your take on this and your teams recent dull performances.... wink...wink.. and just so you know Man U scored 3 against Everton.... i am looking forward to hear from you soon.

At least I'm not the only one going crazy over arsenal at the moment. I think this loss is on Wenger if you are going to rest your second best playe (Cesc) put in a better player than Song or Flamini. I just don't understand why they started and why was Eboue and Clichy not in the squad. This was weak squad that Arsene put out tonight especially defensively and he paid for it. Title it's gone lets hope for the C.L. and Fa cup. This is really frustrating stuff!!!!!
Marlomull as much as I hate to say this I hope Man U win it cause I just can't stand seeing chelsea fans winning the title 3 years in a row. Good luck to you guys.Gosh saying that hurts.
I guess it's another 4th and 3rd place hunt for Arsenal this year.
Marlomul, this is the second game this season we were actually well beaten. That being said, I'm still very dissapointed. I think Arsene chose to rest some players since we have the derby against the Sp*ds coming up and then a very important CL game. Tbh, I'd rather loose to Watford 10-0 than loose to Sp*rs. Like I said, this year will be full of inconsistency - i.e. brillinant results at the Madjeski and OT as well as dire stuff like Everon, City, Boro, and horrid performances like today and at CSKA. Next year we'll be back.
Btw, before you start with your garbage, ManU were in a similar situation as we are now, except that Fergs hasn't built another team. Hope you lot win the league, it'd be a victory for football. United and Arsenal, plus maybe West Ham and on occasion Spurs are the only sides worth paying for to watch (for a neautral).
Bobby
Defoe scores a goal and all of the sudden its lets get rid of Keane. If im not mistaken it was Keane that has started all there wins in Europe and ill take a win over the blue of Chelsea as opposed to the blue of Wigan anyday.
"The game was played at a high pace, I can't fault the team but it's difficult when you're 2-0 down early on.
"We're playing many games at the moment but the team showed great spirit and reactions, we fought until the end but it just doesn't seem to be going for us at the moment.
"Of course we are down and disappointed, but it's part of your job to cope with that - if you want to play at the top level, sometimes it doesn't got your way.
"We have character and we will respond, don't worry.
HOW CAN WE NOT WORRY MR. WENGER. IF HE IS NOT WORRIED THEN HE NEEDS TO START. HE SHOULD ADMIT HE PICKED THE WRONG SQUAD TO.
Allow me to chime in on my beloved arsenal and their wobegone play.
First, you have to credit Fulham I think. They came out attacking and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck in the first 20 minutes and all credit to them.
2nd, Wenge i think was caught napping. Why Walcott Baptista arent in the starting 11 i do not know.
3rd, as much as I think Henry is an elegant and beautiful player, he needs to shoulder the lions share of responsibility for the teams's recent poor form. In crucial games you expect notonly your best player, but the best player in the league for the past 5 seasons, to step up and get it right. For much of this season he hasnt. He hasnt even been the 3rd or 4th best player on arsenal this year. Arsenal cant afford that.
It was the first game I saw Hoyt play well.
There still my team and Ill support em along the way! Go Gunners!
I don't think Theo should start. He's got pace, but it's best used against tired full backs.
Baps is still unfit, he's been injured.
Btw, this proves it was wrong to let Bobby go. When Hoyte whipped the ball in the box, he would have been there, guarantee you. Just like against N'castle. no one is making runs into the box.
i think walcott has got more to his game than pace, hes been very threatening most ofthe time hes out there seems to have merited a start or 2. baptista should be out there 2 imho hes over his knock from what i read
Yeah, he's got more than pace, but I feel he is most effective as a super sub, for now. Plus, it means he's less likely to burn out. We need him, him being Henry Mk II and all...
normally i agree but if u r goin with a mixe3d lineup against fulham, like they were i wuld have liked to have seen him out there from the start. In the end its minor, i believe the real issue is gettin Henry to play liek well Henry and this season he hasnt.
we are more of a threat playing 4-4-2 and that is how you get the best of henry, by playing 4-5-1 henry has three or four players on him, l never dream l would say this but wenger's comments made me realise he is an ####.you can not talk of the championship when you are 16 point behind. For me personally that was the worst performance since the mid 90s.When you state that the next four games will make or break your season the amount of first team players rested was ridiculous.certainly if wengers sees flamini and song as arsenal quality, he is certainly their bilogical father, and that the only reason you can justfy such a team selection.I don't even know why we signed Song, let alone played him tonight.
Last edited by henry14 on November 29th at 6:38 PM.
they were in a 4-4-2 today and henry was partnered with v persie. i wouldnt get on wenge 2 much, i certainly wouldnt trade him for anyother manager domestic or international. and you have to really credit fulham they played great.
As I watched the game I thought - and not for the first time this season - how much Arsenal miss Robert Pires. Or perhaps more accurately how much Thierry Henry misses him. Arsenal is getting virtually nothing from the left side.
Youth and inconsistency go together and if Arsenal fans want a team that can challenge for the Premiership then they will have to get use to some great performances and some lousy ones.
You certainly don't build a team by not playing younger players or even worse selling them if they make a mistake.
It was a great game and one of the best performances from Fulham since they went to Old Trafford and beat United 3-1 three seasons ago.

Fulham are one of the most entertaining teams to watch to me; most of their games are end-to-end. Jensen was immense at making space for himself and Boa Morte showed some lovely skill. Cristanval had a very good game too considering he hasn't played much in the last couple of years.
Bobby: could Hleb possibly fill that hole left by Pires? They could probably use someone faster down the right and Hleb is certainly willing to give Henry the ball instead of shooting it himself.
how good was Boa Morte's game last night he was killing the gunners they were lucky to get away only 2 down could easily been more
Mr Extraordinary last season was hell for me as a ManU fan i got ripped apart by Liverpool,Chelsea and Aresnal fans i even heared how Man U have fall off i was gutted so this is a bit of redemption
Even though i do not like Arsenal i can't understand why they can't get it right they made the best move in the whole PREM. during summer signings.... then again their style of football is also their weakness attacking and leaving the back open to the counter-attack.... while Cesc in a great player his defensive skills are nowhere near Viera's....... and.Pires they just miss him

You guys mind if I talk about something other than Arsenal? ;)
Realmadridcffan, for underrated goalkeepers, look for Shay Given every time. Top 5 in the world if you ask me.
Speaking of which, why on earth is Luque short on playing time at Newcastle? It seems like their entire staff of forwards is crocked besides him, and though I've never seen him play, last I heard he's not exactly a schoolboy. Now he's throwing his arms up and yelling "Take me!" to every club in Spain because he barely gets out on the field. Things may be looking better for him in the future, but someone please shed some light on this for me.
you know what Bobby , what you said makes sense if you are on a good run and have the odd result with the youngsters, but to be honest, l have lost total confidence in the gunners and l can not see us beating or getting a result against chelsea if we can not beat fulham away, l am glad henry is injured for spurs because he has been playing ####, at the same time l feel we are going to lose against spurs probably 2-0 and against chelsea it will be a nightmare, , l have failed to see what flamini and song bring except wasting wages, l can not even imagine playing against porto.L am starting to think this gunners squad is highly overraed and living in the glory of previous arsenal squads and l can not see us challenging for anything this season,..you know what Bobby this is an alltime low
Why is it that Everton always seem to have a problem with scoring goals? when you look throughout the side they definetly have the players who could put the ball in the back of the net. I am beginning to get a little sick of Moyes constantly saying that we desreved more because our overall play was good. I want to see more goals, if Man City can score 3 in a game why cant the Toffees
henry14, you have every right to be frustrated about your team right now, and I do agree that their title hopes are long gone, but I think you're looking at this the wrong way. Common logic, and the logic that you're using, would say "Arsenal lost to Fulham, Team X is better than Fulham, so Arsenal will lose, and perhaps even worse." Simply put, Arsenal is not that kind of team. There is one team that has taken full points from Man Utd this year in league play, and one team alone in the world that have beaten them at OT this season. I think you know who it is. Even last season, when their league fortunes were comparably dismal, they beat Real and gave Juventus a pasting in the CL. It's gotta be tough to be an Arsenal fan given their lows, but you can't overlook the class that they are capable of on any given match day. I wouldn't bet a dime on the Chelsea match for either side. Put a consistenly good team in front of Arsenal and who the heck knows what will happen.
Im not sure being an arsenal fan is any more or less frustrating then being a supporter of any other team. They all go thru the ups and downs over the years. As far as "alltime low", well it certainly is a low mark for the wenge/henry era, but there is a looooong history to arsenal and this isnt even close to being as low as ever, it isnt even in the bottom 10!
While the championship maybe out of reach, there is a lot of work left in the year for the gunners. An FA cup run, Carling (at liverpool), Champions league, and it will be fun takin runs at the big boys and causing them trouble.
Remember -- your never as good as you look on your best day, and never as bad as you look on your worse.
Go Gunners!

Bobby can you please tell me why it is that Arsenal can't convert on the million chances that they tend to create in games. It pains me lots to see them lose because I beleive that they play the most attractive, entertaining and definitely the most adventurous football in the whole Prem. Is it because Arsenal are more of a counter attacking side and so when they fall behind teams would put all their players behind the ball to defend?
Also I have heard people speaking ill of Scottish League, saying that it is not a real competition because the season is already over.Since its inception over 100 years ago two teams have won it 90+ times. Do you agree that they should just end the league if they can't find some way of making it more competitve.
If I had the answer then Arsenr Wenger might be appearing on FSWR every Monday and Friday instaed of me. As for the Scottish League - if you used domination as a criteria of whether or not it shoiuld be scrapped or not there would not be many leagues around. There have been 8 teams that have won the Scottish league in the last 60 years - in Portugal 4 and in Greece 6. I'm sure that there are other leagues that show similar patterns. Netherlands - 50 seasons 7 different winners.
i remember wenger saying that he would not add any new players to his squad during the January transfer window. Following these latest defeats syrely he realizes that he can longer do this. I dont meean to overreact but the way arsenal is playing hot and cold with these youngsters then I fear they may not even finish the league in the top four. What arsenal needs now is some consistency and that will only come with experienced players which wenger should try to buy in January
The FA are accusing Terry of telling lies. Terry claimed Poll said something, the FA says that Poll didn't so they want an explanation from England's captain as to why he chose to make the claim that he did.

henry14 you can't judge arsenal by a game were we didn't have the best team on the pitch. Remember Gallas,Eboue & Clichy didn't play that's our whole defense. Cesc Arsenal best attacking player this season didn't play till the 2nd half and arsenal still played ok against a very brilliant Fulhum squad. The other thing is Arsenal is not a young team. Henry 29, Rosisky 25, Toure 26-25, Helb 25, Gallas 29-30, Gilberto 29-30, Freddie 30. This are all players who should be at there pick they just need to step up and realize that they have to be leaders, Toure, Silva and Gallas are doing their best by the way they are playing but Henry just hasn't and as the superstar he has to for this team to do well. I'm starting to think mybe the team just hasn't played together long enough. This is a completley new team from the defense to the offense it's a new team and in time I believe they will deliver. Arsene doesn't need any new players that will just bring the chemistry progress back if needy of players he should just bring back the players on loan, word is most of them are playing well for their loan teams. It's tough but like I always say you have to support your team during the good times and bad times and just always hope fot the best.
Henry14, get some perspective. We've got a promising, talented and young squad, beautiful stadium (not as good as Highbury, but...) and a brilliant manager who is building a new team. Imagine what Sunderland or Norwich fans go though... Ups and downs are all part of football.
Marlumull, dunno if I said this before, but I sincerely hope you win the title. It'd be a victory for football. Mind you, we'd never hear the end of it.
About Cesc. He is the engine of the team and has become, imo, Arsenal's most important player. No small feat at 19 y.o. He is never going to be Vieira - isn't Viera's replacement. That'f be Abu Diaby (who sould be giving out a bollocking to Boltons of the world were it not for that #### Smith, Sunderland, and his most poinless lunge). Cesc can do things Vieira could never dream of and Veira did thing Cesc never will.
Accusing him of being weak in defence is simply wrong. He is one of our only players who can make a strong, clean challenge (Kolo, Gallas, Gilberto).
And it is alos like accusing Paul Scholes of being a bit, ok, really, really #### at tackling.
And I'd rather loose to fulham than have the Sp*ds beat us this weekend.
Finally Arsenal have every chance of beating the ColdSpurs and Chelski. They beat Man U and Liverpool so big teams have not been the problem it's the mid table teams that have been the problem.
Bobby, what do you think of Anthony Stokes at Falkirk? I saw him in a couple of games for our reserves, but not in the SPL. What is his style of play and do you think he can cope with physical players? Thanks.
Henrik Larsson just joined Man Utd on loan for the rest of the season. I love getting surprise stories like this that you haven't heard about for the past 8 months. It's a pretty interesting move. You gotta figure the guy hasn't lost it yet. His last season at Barca was no failure. Best of luck to the guy. Might be fun to see him and Solksjaer together... they can be called "####"! The Aging Scandanavian Strikeforce!
hey everybody Larsson is coming to Man U.....hmmmm....this one took me by surprise he did help Barca coming off the bench his work rate is very good.. but at 35...hmmmm..lets hope its a good move(i think it will be)
Arsenal should win this one to show spurs who is who
Fergie has got a good player in larson , he might not be quick but is certainly very clever and he will be a priced addition for them, l have to admitt, l am not looking forward to the derby, because we are going to lose and since henry is out expect flamini in.thank God flamini is injured and the worst thing freedy to start, the guy adds nothing except running meaninglessly nowadays, he should also be put on the transfer list
Last edited by henry14 on December 1st at 7:16 AM.
extraordinaryrvanp - I've heard more of Stokes performances (radio) than seen. He seems to have impressed everyone during his short time at Falkirk - even though Falkirk has slipped down the league after a bright start. Even with the goals he has scored I would not expect to see him pushing for a starting spot at Arsenal or anything close to it for a couple of seasons at least. The SPL is a physical league so if he survives - and at the moment he seems to be prospering - they should be no doubts about his ability to take knocks. There was some talk that he may move loan clubs - possibly back to England - when January come around. The BBC is carrying a story that Celtic may make a move for him. Mind you it is couched in the usual way "confirmed that they could." Bottom line, he seems to be a young player that could go far - oops, couched that a bit didn't I?
Bobby,
You said "The FA are accusing Terry of telling lies. .... so they want an exclamation from England's captain ...."
Although I'm sure JT has plenty of exclamations ready for the FA, I think you meant explanation. Nice Freudian typo though. :)
Bobby why do chelsea have to get involved ,by saying they will fight tooth and nail for terry, do you feel that it will make them have a bad image because poll was cleared so what are the consequense of the chelsea statement and how do you think it will go with the referees, on officiating chelsea games
