Early penalty kick and more...
Jul 09, 2006 | 11:48AM | report this

I don't know if Materazzi made contact with Malouda.

Cheeky chip from Zidane.

Camoranesi has been on the ball a lot.

I couldn't blame Barthez for Italy's goal. It would have been foolhardy to come out on that type of corner - Materazzi did a terric job with his header.

Italy is having the better of the play.

France is having trouble defendin corners from the right side - everytime one comes in it is causing problems.

Makelele is neutralizing Totti but Pirlo is a different problem. He plays so deep that he is difficult to mark.

Totti and Toni have taken to exchanging positions to try and disrupt French marking.

A good first half - here's hoping that France and Italy can keep it up.

Bobby - that was definitely a foul on the PK. Materazzi nipped his trailing foot. Not a harsh foul but it was a foul. Materazzi made up for his mistake with a beautiful header.

You are right, France does look shakey on corners.

Slight contact was made, can't blame Barthez, but his positioning made it look like he was at fault

Mr. Blue73 - I've watched it a few times now and I would now agree with you. Just goes to show how difficult the referee's job is.

I thought it was brilliant body control by Materazzi. He pulled his knee away as he was in the air.

A_Oh - You think Zizou meant to do that? I think he almost soiled himself when he saw the ball hit the crossbar. :)

I'd say Italy was awfully lucky on the no call penalty against Malouda. Ref missed a clear penalty.

France has had the better play. Looks like substitutions might be the difference here. France has two left for extra time.

Once again the French come out of a world event as an embarasement to themselves thanks to one stupid man. Way to go Zidane.

Italy did play awful, but Toni goal, which was taken away cause of an offside call should of been allowed. He was clearly not offside.

First PK - there was no contact for sure. Materazzi pulled out of the tackle at the last moment.

51st min - Now that should have been a PK on Malouda. So it evens out.

Italian 2nd goal was very close, but probably offside. Although, when will the linesmen start giving the benefit of the doubt to attacking players as they have been instructed to do like 10 years ago?
