Portugal vs. Netherlands
Jun 25, 2006 | 12:02PM | report this

Eric Wynalda thinks that the Dutch will win because Marco Van Basten is a great coach. I guess that makes Big Phil chopped liver - cheez.

It looks like RVN has been dropped in favour of Dirk Kuyt.

I fancy Portugal in this one but I also would not be surprised if the Dutch took it.

Back at half time.

Wow, a yellow card in the first 90 seconds!

Van Bommel should've scored and then is carded for a little clip at Cristiano's heal, silly yellow card, the ref should start the game with at least a warning.

Bobby, what would be the best result for England here? Of course we'd like extra time and then someone going home after penalties!

I'm with you on Portugal, but Robben is such a force in this tournament.

Cheers Rich

I think England would beat Holland but not Portugal. I see Portugal being an oportunistic type side like England - for Beckham substitute Deco.

Yeah, and Scolari has our number... Much prefer holland, we'd kick them into submission ;-)

Not looking good, 1-0 Big Phils XI... Maniche from Chelski put them up with a nice effort..

Nice goal from Maniche, but not the greatest defending from the Dutch.

Up to this point it was a bit of a snoozefest.

Love the talent on the field. The ref is throwing out yellow cards so far - 2 for hacking C. Ronaldo; al of them for slowing down attacking play. I like the decisions this ref is making so far.

Well, at least the ref did well for more than half an hour.

Portugal down to 10 men after a second yellow for Costinha - he was lucky to get away with a bookable offence a few minutes ago, too...

Much more physical than I expected...

Rio, yeah, the guy has lost it... Fouling all over the park.

Okay---I have to ask somebody. That Adidas commercial that plays absolutely non-stop...
What is the guy singing? "If you don't give my football back, I'm gonna get my bet on you"?

I thought the commercial was neat at first, but after the first 1500 viewings I had to mute the TV whenever it comes on before I "Barf It Like Beckham".

So guys, help me with this.....is this game, and are these teams, really playing any better than England?

Really? I mean I'm watching a star-studded game with some of the best players in the world, and it's a snoozefest. The goal was good, but otherwise its another typical world cup game with long periods of boring midfield passing and fouls all over the place.

England will not fear either of these teams.

I can see Holland scoring one if they'll just take their shots on the edge of the box, they keep passing the ball off or holding it too long.

Lets hope for extra time.

Cheers Rich

Hehe!

The second half has really come alive. The ball is going end to end, all kinds of action.

The handbags are now coming out.

I think they'll be some more red cards in this game.

Figo just headbutted a Dutch player, this is getting nuts.

Cheers Rich

please bobby don't take eric wynalda's opinions as being that of the typical american fan. all the analysts on espn's crew are horrible. with the exception of harkes, foudy, and of course, allen hopkins. bobby, 'ticket to germany' is my favorite show on tv and trust me when i say that i am your biggest fan. i make everyone in the room be quiet when you speak. how did you come to know so much about football
