Arielle Newman, a cross country track athlete at Notre Dame Acadamy of Staten Island, died April 13, 2007 from over use of a sports cream to soothe her aching legs and joints. Apparently her body absorbed high levels of  methyl salicylate, an anti-inflammatory found in creams as Ben-#### and Icy Hot, the medical examiner said.

Arielle Newman, who had won a number of awards in her sport, had been to a party the previous night and upon returning home talked with her mother for a few hours.

All appeared normal until Arielle was found non responsive later.

A doctor at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Ronald Grelsamer, stated she either lathered herself with the oinment, used way too much or used the proper amount and for reasons unknown her body absorbed an abnormal amount of the chemical.

Deaths from the chemical are rare and this case is unusual. Absorption can be intensified if exercising in extreme heat.

Arielle's mother Alice Newman remains stunned that her daughter is dead from using an over the counter cream product. Ms. Newman stated " I am scrupulous about my children's health. I did not think an over the counter product could be unsafe."

A warning to some of us "old timer's" who sport around a bit more than we should thinking we can ease it all by use of this joint and muscle salve.

WRESTLING COACH/DAD STORY A CROCK
Feb 18, 2007 | 9:15AM | report this

                                I CAN'T BELIEVE I BELIEVED THIS STORY

southerncindi

A few days ago I was facinated by another "sports mom/dad  loses total control" at their kid's sporting event  story I read in the paper and heard about on the news.

This one involved wrestling. Real, organised school wrestling. What occurred was a young lad was just pinned and the ref was about to stop the match when....Now this was, is and is still being reported in this manner; the boy's father, one of the wrestling coaches himself, came tearing on to the mat, lifting the other boy and throwing him 10 feet into the air and about 8 feet downwind, so to speak.

After seeing some of the episodes which have occured in football, baseball, T-ball, and soccer in the past I believed this story and was totally disgusted.

Today, Sunday the 18th of February (Happy Racing this year guys) I open my browser and I see in my "fan video" the headline from this wrestling story. So of course I JUST GOTTA SEE THIS. I'm expecting to see this horrendous video, which was taken by the father of the lad who won the match and also the object of being turned into a projectile, of a kid soaring through the air landing in a group of spectator's or just plummeting to the floor. Not so. Didn't happen. Wasn't even close.

It wasn't good what the defeated boy's father did but it wasn't near how it was reported. I don't know if I've mentoned this here but I HATE the media. This boy's father enters from stage left of the video being shot. You can tell he's upset. It appears maybe the victor in that match "layed" a little longer than nessessary with the subdued boy in a headlock than he needed to. I noticed this and the father, I believe was upset by this as you see him shouting at the ref, pointing at the "victor" and as he reaches the little brat the father just kinda drives his hands under his armpits and pushes him back, up and away. Then, turns toward the father of the brat who is taping all of this  most likely yelling, I believe, if it were me, I would of been saying something i.e. "Why didn't you tell your kid to get off him?" That's my imagined quote not the dad's.

The kid didn't come anywhere near 10 feet in the air or 8 feet "downwind", so to speak. The kid was simply pushed back by an adult and his feet left terra firma for a split second and he most likely landed on his bum. The push was a careful, gentle push if you can call it that. Not one of those shove in the chest type things. It appeared to me the angry dad took care to cuff the kid underarms 'tween thumb and forefingers. Whatever that area is called biologically. Ya know?

So here I am once again writing about people who get paid to write but outright not telling the truth...On their own this time. Not like some general tell's them "Yeah, the #### Chi Minh Trail is secure" and then they report it. They could see it and they wrote it the way they wanted.

Funny they think the video is going to support them. The victor's dad too, I bet, think's he has evidence for a you-know-what.
