Michael Vick’s Apology
Aug 27, 2007 | 1:24PM | report this

I don’t think Michael could have said it any better.  It appeared that he did not read the apology.  It also appeared that he meant what he was saying.  I give it 9.5 out of 10.

Hopefully this is his first step to becoming a better person.

The first thing Vick ought to do to prove he's indeed a better person is to publicly apologize to the fans and ownership of the Falcons. From thereon in that if anything will show that his act of contrition is meaningful. If he's unable to do that then it doesn't mean a damn thing.
Check out my post written under this guise titled To All My Peeps In Da House !
Let me know what you think as to the merits of the piece ?

I think it's going to be a long time before anyone sees Vick as a better person. Maybe when it's all said and done, a better person will emerge, but I doubt it. He's been a PR nightmare for the NFL, off the field, all along. While this will probably going to be the worst thing he has ever done, it won't be the last of the troubling player conduct news to come out of the NFL. It certainly set the bar really high though.

I promise that I am not bashing Vick, but...

Do you think he apologized because he got caught -- rather than because he was truly sorry?

Yes, I am assuming, but do you honestly think that if he was not caught, that he would one day say, 'Hmmm...dog fighting is not a good thing. I think I shall stop now and never do it again'?

He has been doing this for six years (that we know of -- could have been longer). Why would anyone think he wouldn't do it for another six years, or longer?

(and again -- we all assume because we obviously can't see the future... by saying 'the Colts have a great shot at making the playoffs is no worse of an assumption than me thinking he would continue dog fighting if he had not got caught)

Gator..I see your point. But couldn't you say the same about children as they're growing up? A child knows he's doing something wrong when he drinks Coke instead of juice..when his mother has told him not to doso. He will continue to get by with it so long as his mother doesn't catch him. But once he's caught...he's "sorry". And kids do learn from their mistakes.

I think Vick should be in jail for 5 years...personally. But I will have to agree with Spidey on this one. What else was the man supposed to do? He's damned if he does and damned if he don't. He apologized to everyone he could possibly apologize too. He did it on his own...and he did not read it. I'm sure he's sorry he's been caught. But if he has any conscience about him, he will see from the outcry from the community, the error of his ways.

What if he'd not apologized at all? What if he had come on camera and said he wasn't sorry..and that he feels wronged by the community and the justice system? What would the reaction have been then?

He did the right thing. Now it will be up to him to right the ship.

He is an empty man who has nothing to offer anyone, especially our youth. The fact is that he would still be fighting and killing dogs were he not caught. If you would kill a helpless animal then you have very little reguard for any living thing. I would love to have some of his money to help spay and neuter the thousands of animals in the world that would make great family pets and to help stem the flow of breeding animals for such a sport. So in the end Vick just sucks, in every way.....

Gator - we're talking about people who wear our favorite pieces of laundry here. Don't bring logic into this.

I have to agree...no script made it seem genuine. It sounded like it came from the heart....however, he is also talking right before he is to be sentenced, so you have to wonder if there was some superior acting involved to get the judge more lenient.

and I WISH we could all get off the MV bandwagon.... rember PLEAZE college football is coming and if we dont put this MV thang away hey we just might miss some great games... talking about it always makes me think we are loving it!!!! and getting mad at MV... its like i said let it go... us we everyone aint ganna change anything about it by ####ing about it (LET IT GO) (MOVE ON) its reminds me of someone who has just broken up with someone, but wont date or get it out of their head... this MV talk reminds me of someone who is handicapped and just sitts and never gives them selves a chance to better themslves... lets talk about other sports PLEZXZZZZE MV isnt the only thing out there ... or at least i hope not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vick's act of contrition was about as convincing as Paris Hilton or Ashlee Simpson's attempts at singing. Both were meaningless and yet we take it all in and think how wonderful. What a crock of ..... ! Vick's apology was only done to appease those whom he felt he aggrieved and no one else.
Had he sought to do the right thing from the outset rather than behave like the piece of dung that he is. He might've had more of an opportunity to show that he was indeed sorry.
Can't help but wonder what'd be happening now had he not been caught ?
