are you ready for some football?

Man am I ready for some football.  The Cowboys are coming into the pre-season looking strong all around.  this is going to be a short post but i plan on blogging again tomorrow night about some off-season happenings with the cowboys and just on a quick note............how about the trade giving us a round 1 pick in next years draft? FREAKIN AWSOME,RIGHT?!?!?!?!?!  I think Brady Quinn is the real deal, but even Aikman took a couple years to get the ship rolling in the right direction.  I think when it's all said and done, we have a top 5 draft pick and hopefully a top 5 running back in next years draft or possibly a speedy wide receiver to go with Terrell.

What do we really need to accomplish in the off-season and the pre-season? well, consistency with Romo I think is priority #1.  It appears that Romo has taken the off-season seriously. he entered camp this year looking better than anytime in his career and for good reason........produce numbers, wins and playoffs..........get a nice contract to go with it!  For those who dog Jerry Jones (and i have been 1 in the past to hound him on things he's said and done) , Jerry has put together a core of players that could rival the big 3 of the 90's.  Now , before I blog my thoughts and tell you the big 3 i'm talking about, keep in mind the big picture.......Julius Jones is not the answer at running back!  He has done mediocre, just like his brother Thomas did for the bears for years before stepping it up last year ( and the injury bug runs in the family..........Thomas laid up already with a bum leg) , I think Marion Barber is the long term answer for us. So here goes my Big 3 for this decade of cowboys teams to make the run for the superbowl:

1.  Tony Romo

2.  Terrell Owens

3.  Jason Witten

Now, I know, there are so many big name players on this team, but these are the weapons we have, the defense is rockin this year, and most cowboys fans could make a case Demarcus Ware's name should be on there, or Marcus Spears , Anthony Newman, Anthony Henry , Julius Jones who i stated above I feel shouldn't be considered, Big Daddy Flozel Adams or even Bobby Carpenter.  Whoever the case may be, opinions are like #### holes, everyone's got one and mine's stated above!

What a great fantasy blog! I say fantasy blog because 867530nine is living in LaLa Land. He sees Tony Romo approaching Aikman, as part of the Cowboys new "Big 3"?? Let's look at this in perspective. Romo got a Pro Bowl berth based on 8 good games last year, and you're comparing him to Aikman. Romo is a serviceable quarterback who will help Dallas improve, but he is DFINITELY not the second coming of Aikman.

Secondly, your "Big Three" includes T.O. This guy has been a cancer on every team he's played on, and now that he no longer has a "no nonsense" coach like Parcells - well, let's just say the Cowboys will need chemo by the end of the season.

Witten as the 3rd of your "Big 3"?? He's not even one of the top 2 TE's in the NFC East (See Cooley and Shockey).

However, as 867530nine says, opinions are quite common, especially this time of year. Let's just see how it all plays out. Personally, I think the Cowboys will get a wild card spot, and get knocked out in the first round. Eagles will finish on top, and as long as the Bears can knock off the Saints, the Eagles will win the NFC - otherwise, I'll go w/ New Orleans.

tonydal, your right it's too early to call Romo the second coming of Aikman, but Dallas hasn't had a QB as good as Romo since Aikman went down. So Dallas fans are excited about the future that Romo holds.

Your going to be wrong about TO. He has gotten paid and is the focus of the passing game this year. He will get the most looks in the NFL then any other WR which will keep him happy. He will not be the problem that you believe he will be.

Witten is the best TE in the NFC east. He is a better blocker and just as good a reciever as any other TE in the divison. The last couple of years under Parcells he has been asked to be more of a blocking TE. This year under Garrett the new offensive coordinator he will be more involved in the passing game. His stats were better then Shockey and Cooley last year and will be superior again this year.
