Cut Tire Relegates Marlin to 40th-place Finish in Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 7, 2007)-- Sterling Marlin's bad luck at Daytona International Speedway continued Saturday night when a cut tire on lap 115 of 160 sent his Waste Management Chevrolet into the outside wall and to a 40th-place finish in the Pepsi 400.
"We can't catch a break," said Marlin, who was running in the 14th spot when the incident occurred. "As much as I like Daytona and as good as these Ginn cars are at superspeedways, we can't seem to get a deserving finish. It's been a frustrating weekend."
Sterling Marlin posted a strong lap in Friday's UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 qualifying session here at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, earning the eighth starting spot for Sunday's event. Marlin's green and yellow Waste Management Chevrolet clocked in at 29.585 seconds at 182.525 miles per hour. Pole winner Kasey Kahne's speed was 184.856 miles per hour. "That was a great lap" said Marlin, who won the Cup event at Las Vegas in 2002. "The Waste Management Chevrolet had a lot of grip and really stuck where it needed to. The guys did a great job adjusting on it during practice today and we were able to come away with a top-10 starting spot."
