Carl Edwards and the No. 60 Scotts Bonus S Max team went into Atlanta with the overall Busch Series Points lead. They had a very fast Ford Fusion on the 1.5-mile oval, but had to conserve tires the majority of the 195 laps. Edwards and the rest of the 43-car field had to set their strategies for tire wear. Edwards increased his lead in the Busch Series Championship standings after finishing 4th for his fourth top-five in the Nicorette 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Going into the Atlanta race, Edwards was leading Denny Hamlin by 68 points. Edwards finished 4th and Hamlin skipped the event so he now leads second place Kevin Harvick by 144 points after the fifth race of the 2007 season.
“This was fun. I hope the fans enjoyed the race. My Scotts Bonus S Max guys did a great job,” commented Edwards. “We had a little bit of trouble with the tires all day. They had a lot of grip and they would come apart so we just had to be a little cautious. I think everybody did a good job being patient. I was surprised that the thing ran through a whole pit cycle under green and that nobody blew a tire and had to come in. We ended up with a great finish. I had a great race with Kyle Busch even though he got shuffled back. I had a great time.”
Next week Edwards and the No. 60 team change gears for their first short track race of the season at Bristol Motor Speedway. The No. 60 team is determined to keep extending their lead in Bristol. Edwards and the No. 60 team will be running the Scotts Moisture Control colors.
