McDonald's NASCAR Busch Series driver Bobby Hamilton, Jr. continues his push to grab the fifth position in the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Point's Championship. With his 12th place finish at Dover International Speedway, the Tennessee native stands just 42 points behind Nextel Cup driver David Ragan in the point's championship. With six races remaining in the season, Hamilton has his eyes focused on fifth or higher.
"Another good race for our McDonald's team," said Hamilton. "We want to finish inside the top-five this year and today helped. The guys are all working hard and the cars are running better each week."
SPARTA, KY. - NASCAR Busch Series driver Bobby Hamilton, Jr., gave “Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo” grand marshal and Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory a pace car tour of the race line at Kentucky Speedway during a preview news conference for the June 16 event.
Hamilton, Jr., is racing in the NASCAR Busch Series for the first time since 2004 this season and is reunited with Team Rensi Motorsports, which helped him earn four wins, including a “Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo” title, 13 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes en route to a career-best fourth-place showing in the final 2003 series standings. The 29-year-old driver resident of White House, Tenn., finished 24th in the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at the track, but is taking a confident approach to his sixth career start at a facility where he’s led 195 of the 691 NASCAR Busch Series laps he’s completed through four races.
“We’ve won here, so you kind of stick your chest out a little bit, and my team has always run good here,” he said. “It gives you that little extra confidence but it changes. Sometimes you’ll see a guy dominate a track two or three times and then, all the sudden, he can’t fall out of a tree there. “You’ve got to have good pit stops, miss all the wrecks, your car has to be good, your driver can’t make a mistake and you have to capitalize on everyone else’s mistakes. It’s a whole big mixture thrown into a bucket. If you can make all that work, you’ve got a shot at winning this race.”
Let's cut the #### and get the lead out of the Buschwackers and get them out of the Bush Series Championship. Lets just say we have a Prototype Class and a GT class. Yeah, they are all out there on the track together, but really, who is best in class?
Shock! It's a newcomer! It's that Aussie (Marcos Ambrose). Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Hoy! Hoy! Hoy!
You guys may think I am high on this guy. Well, I didn't intend this to be another post for him. Matter of fact I hadn't noticed he was the highest ranked Busch Series driver when you exclude the wackers. (That word has a nice double entendre to it doesn't it? Well, maybe not so "nice".)
But Anyway, as Blues Traveler said, the fact is Ambrose is showing folks.
Next is Jon Wood, another guy I have been blogging on. Didn't know he was goint to pop up either. The only reason I have been blogging on Ambrose and Wood to tell you the truth is that they run Ford's in the Busch Series as does my favorite Busch driver Bobby Hamilton Jr., who comes in 4th on this list.
Another old favorite of mine, Mike Wallace comes in third. I love those St. Louis guys. Fifth is Shane Huffman who I have been following since his USAR Hooters Pro Cup days. Here is the list.
Yep, 11 guys. That's it folks. Take out the Buschwackers as defined as anyone trying to run Nextel Cup full time and considering only those remaining who have run every Busch race and you get 11 guys. Another sad situation isn't it.
C'mon NASCAR figure out how to balance this out. Please?
Andy Petree visited Team Rensi Motorsports garage this week to see the paint scheme on the No. 35 Mc Donalds Ford Fusion. Petree was the owner of the No. 55 Chevrolet 2001 Monte Carlo that won the 2001 Talladega 500. The driver of that car was Bobby Hamilton who passed away on January 7, 2007. Hamilton's son, Bobby Hamilton Jr., will be driving the same paint scheme his father drove in what would become his last Winston Cup win in honor and memory of the Sr. Hamilton in the Orbitz 300 Busch Series race at Daytona on Saturday.
Petree sent the paint code and everything from his shop from the way it used to be to the Team Rensi shop so they could surprise Bobby Jr. by honoring his father in this way. Petree was all for it, and he even promised that if team Rensi does get lucky enough to win that he will come over and jump on the hood like he did after that win at Talladega.
Bobby Jr. says there are up and down sides to the paint scheme. Sometimes he doesn't want to be reminded of his dad when he is ready to go to work. But then he says there are good memories of that Talladega win that go with the scheme too. Bobby says when he is inside the car it doesn't matter, because he can't see the color anyway from there.
