From 1998 to 2001 I lived in Valley Park, Missouri near the old Lakehill Speedway. While there, I learned from a friend that Rusty Wallace, Kenny Schrader, Mike Wallace and Kenny Wallace raced there.
What I didn't know was that NASCAR had actually had one of it's top series race there. I didn't know that until today.
I made a comment on another post regarding Mike Wallace. While checking to make sure I got the name of the old track right, I noted more information on the web about it than I would have expected. Low and behold the track, which was in ruins when I last walked around it around 2000 or so, had been cleaned up for a reunion.
The following thread is probably the best message board thread I have ever read on the net. It tells the story of memories of racers and racing fans of all ages and the hope of racing generations that an old historic track might be saved.
It is a must read for Iowa Girl. I know she will appreciate it. I hope others of you will take the time to read it too. At a minmum peruse it.
Many of you know I have AADHD. But believe it or not, I read all 633 posts to date. This is truly a remarkable story of racing fans pulling together. It is what the racing community is about.
