This is part of why I hate Jr. fans, not Jr. mind you, he is a skilled driver and his integrity far surpasses that of his father making him more admirable in my book. But his fans. Jeez!
They never get tired of tooting their horns. They can't even read each other's blogs and comment on them and have a discussion. No, they all have to toot their own horns.
Jr! Jr! Jr.!
Bring me a barf bag already.
Hell, half of his fans can't even tell you what the COT is.
Even Jr. says he was lucky. His fans won't admit it, but it's true.
Does it take anything away from the win? Hell no.
Fuel mileage is a part of racing and even a bigger part of racing in IRL and F1. So the win is nothing to be ashamed of. Michigan is often a fuel mileage track. That's part of why it is one of my favorites, that and four wide on the front tri-oval. Awesome track!
Look, jon talked enough about it, so comment on his blog.
Hope, sweetie, your welcome here but bring something new when you post, please?
Tyler, your recap is good, so I'll give you a pass. And don't let anyone give you #### regarding cutting and pasting. It is part of the history of blogging that evolved from newsgroups. Stand tall.
Joker. Man, your a good blogger. But this one wasn't necessary.
Rise up Jr,. nation? Please.
Watching from above? Nice sentiment. But there is no theology that indicates that looking down from above is even possible. In fact theology suggests a great gulf that can not be crossed. Dale may be racing with the other lost greats. But he ain't looking down.
Frever? Sunoco fumes through stainless steel lines? Sea of green, hell the sea parted and red and yellow Michigan seat colors were dominating by race end as most peripheral Jr. fans had left the building. But they'll tell all their friends thay stayed till the end and saw him win.
Change the life of Jr.,? I bet he's laughing his #### off at all this stuff. He know he was lucky, that it just worked out for him, and he's taking it all in stride and that's fine. But changing his life? A bit over the top I say.
Sr. passed away several years ago. It's been over five years. When will the opining stop? I miss Tony Roper, but nobody seems to remember him. I miss my dad, but I don't go on and on about it.
Time moves on. Let it go.
Inverted, you get a pass, you added a lot to the discussion with a different angle in your blog. Well done.
Cody gets a pass too. I like to see other drivers get mentions.
Bobdot can have a pass too. His rambles are, well, his rambles.
But bobat? Take the message board posts to a message board.
And what did all of you miss. Well something only us Jamie fans will remember I guess. We damn near stole that one from you. And hell yeah, we would have taken it, luck and all.
On a special Father’s Day afternoon at Michigan International Speedway, Roush Fenway Racing driver Jamie McMurray came close to giving his father, Jim McMurray the ultimate Father’s Day present – a trip to Victory Lane. Late in the race, the No. 26 Crown Royal Cask No. 16 team felt they had enough fuel to run the distance and battle with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. for the win but when the caution flew with just two laps remaining, the No. 26 team was forced to pit for fuel, and settle for a top-10 finish in this afternoon’s Lifelock 400.
The Fast and The Furious - Did you see the movie? Did you like it? If you were a car fanatic, you had to. So did a whole new generation of potential NASCAR race fans.
As early as 2000 NASCAR was starting to think about a uni-template car. Dodge came back into the NASCAR series that year. The discussions regarding the Dodge body that would be approved sparked the uni-template discussion.
After Dale Earnhardt died at Daytona in 2001, NASCAR knew it had to focus on safety. This safety consciousness led to the design of a new NASCAR race car and the uni-body became part of the total package.
In the 2001 movie, The Fast and The Furious, we saw the height of cool in automobiles. The cars in the film were a hit in any language. That is huge when movies make their bucks on rentals worldwide.
The Fast and The Furious was released in June 2001 and became a surprise hit. NASCAR took notice. Is it any surprise then that the uni-body car began to resemble the vehicles from the film?
The COT looks fast and furious. This is huge as NASCAR attempts to grow the sport by marketing itself to a new generation of potential NASCAR fans. I think the COT is a hit in any language as well. I think NASCAR has its future right.
H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler says it will be Jimmie Johnson, who has driven his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports car to victory in four of the first 11 Nextel Cups points races this season who will win NASCAR's upcoming Nextel All-Star Challenge at Lowe's Motor Speedway. "This race is Jimmie Johnson's to lose," Wheeler proclaimed. If Johnson can avoid losing it and fulfill Wheeler's prognostication in the process, he will join Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon as the only three-time winners of NASCAR's annual All-Star event, having also won it last year and in 2003. He also would take home the top prize of $1 million.
She was born Teresa Houston, the daughter of Hal Houston, a sportsman racer at Hickory Motor Speedway and the niece of Tommy Houston, legendary Busch Series driver. She married Dale Earnhardt in 1982, and afterward partnered with Dale in building Dale Earnhardt, Inc. (DEI) into one of the most successful enterprises in NASCAR.
I for one am amazed at the amount of bashing that I have read of Teresa Earnhardt on this blog, in other places and from drivers like Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart. As I recall, Teresa was always the one with the business acumen in the marriage. If the movie 3 is correct, Dale might have missed his first big break because he didn't have the business sense to get himself in his first good ride. Sure the movie may be wrong, it was controlled by Teresa. But would the rest of the family have allowed that portrayal if it wasn't at least close to being correct?
I remember learning befor Dale's death that Teresa was the person behind his image. As I recall she was the one that had the most to do with starting their Action Die Cast Company. The entry of Action into the die cast market with its Dale Earnhardt images led to an explosion in the die cast industry that inspired Joe Gibbs to get into it with his Team Caliber brand.
Where are the women's libbers when I need them I asked on another blog comment. It seems to me that men and women alike are judging Teresa by her sex and not by her accomplishments. Why should this woman give up controlling inteest in the company she owns? What man would be expected to do this?
Where I come from the surviving spouse most often inherits the estate. In some states this is the law if there is no will. I have no problem with that. If I die first, and I probably will, my wife gets controlling interest of my estate as well. It's what my father did. It's what my grandfather's did.
Again if the portrayal of dad in the movies is correct, he probably would not have handed the reigns to Jr. anyway. He probably would have liked to see Jr. go out on his own. I believe Dale Jr. feels this way. I have heard him express the thought.
As I see it this break up is a result of simply two roads diverging in a wood. Dale is taking the one less traveled Teresa is taking the wider road that she is on. DEI is in a rebuilding mode and needs a little time at a minimum and probably even a merger to get its feet solidly back on the ground.
But the Eury's are still there folks. Martin Turex is a former Busch Champion and can drive. Paul Menard might not be where he is if it weren't for daddy's money. But so what? He still does a good job of wheeling a car himself. If my dad would have had money, I would have taken any chance he offered me and run with it too.
Jr. needs to win now if he is to have a monster career. He needs to find that ride for himself. Word is he will still work with DEI and that JR Mororsports will still work with DEI. He is not burning all of his bridges.
I am back to thinking that he will land at Childress because Hendrick would prefer to not have a beer sponsor. If he does wind up at Childress, he will have an opportunity to work for the man his father worked for. It will be almost like family. But it will not be family. It will be business and it will allow Jr. a chance to grow further into manhood.
This episode is like a divorce in the family. I have been there. Feelings will be hurt. in the interim, why can't we just believe Dale and Teresa. Why can't we show some empathy as we allow them all to work through this?
As an old Darrell Waltrip fan, I can't believe I am defending an Earnhardt. But Dale gave Darrell one of his best last rides in the No.1 Penzoil car. And for that I am eternally grateful.
As a Sterling Marlin fan who was blocked off of the Sterling Marlin board after the Daytona tragedy I could be resentful toward the Earnhardts. But I am not. The biggest reaon is that Dale Jr. made a point in his time of deepest hurt, to tell Sterling that Dale would not have approved of the death threats and other insults that were hurled at Sterling at the time by angry Earnhardt fans. Sense then, Dale Jr. has continued to show that he is a man of character. Largely because of that I feel it is time for me to support the Earnhardts, both of them.
If you say it was fixed you are a fool. The man dominated the race on Sunday more than any other driver on the road to his record breaking win giving him a total of 77 and one more than the late Dale Earnhardt. Gordon in the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet won by every definition of the word the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway to move into sole possession of sixth place on NASCAR’s all-time wins list. Leading 67 of 191 laps is leading roughly one third of the race folks. That's dominating a restrictor plate race. Gordon extended his lead in the championship standings to 203 points over second-place Jeff Burton.
"I never caused a riot before for winning -- well, maybe once or twice,'' Gordon said refering to beer cans that were thrown at him for a third time in his career by angry Dale Earnhardt fans. "I thought Junior had more power. I thought they'd throw toilet paper, which is what he asked them to throw. I saw maybe one roll.'' There are a lot of fans out there who are Earnhardt fans who don't want to see [the record] broken,'' he said. "I appreciate the enthusiasm ... the opinions of all the fans out there. What are you going to do?''
