Rubens Ninth, Jenson 10th
May 26, 2007 | 4:51PM | report this

The Honda Racing F1 Team enjoyed its most successful qualifying session of the year in Monaco today, with Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button both making it through to Q3. The two drivers will start tomorrow’s Monaco Grand Prix from ninth and 10th places.  Although the qualifying session was dry, heavy rain during this morning’s free practice session left the track very green and slippery.  The team will now spend this evening finalising its strategy, ahead of tomorrow’s 78-lap race.

RUBENS BARRICHELLO
“I would like to say a big thank you to the whole team today. We did a fantastic job to make it through to the final session. Little by little we are improving and although we still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do, we are encouraged. I know we will get back to where we belong. I’m very excited for tomorrow. This is always a great race but starting P9 really gives us a shot at the points.”

Andretti Green Racing Fastest On Carb Day
May 26, 2007 | 3:52PM | report this

Andretti Green Racing hopes Miller Lite Carb Day is a good indication of the Indianapolis 500 finish.  Tony Kanaan, who will start the 91st Indianapolis 500 from the middle of the front row, topped the speed chart for the final practice session, the final opportunity for teams to fine-tune their cars before Race Day.  Kanaan, driving the No. 27 Canadian Club  for Andretti Green Racing, topped the speed chart with a quick lap of 225.467 mph (39.9171 seconds). Teammates Dario Franchitti (223.807 mph in the No. 27 Canadian Club car) and Michael Andretti (223.575 mph in the No. 39 Jim Beam/Motorola car) were right behind.

Michael Andretti, Dario Franchitti & Tony Kanaan completed their final practice session for the 91st Indianapolis 500.

Drivers Notice Martin's Part-time Success
May 26, 2007 | 2:13PM | report this

By David Caraviello, NASCAR.COM

He's won 35 races on NASCAR's premier circuit, come heartbreaking close to winning a title four times, and done it all with class and grace.  But Martin's most enduring legacy could be proving that it's possible to race at a championship level without racing every week. The man who once made 621 consecutive starts currently stands 15th in points, well within reach of a berth in the 12-man Chase.  This despite competing part time, with three fewer races than everyone else.  Now that Martin and his owner Bobby Ginn have discovered a formula that works, everyone is watching.

"I've run them all for several years and not been this high in the points," Martin said.  "I guess that speaks highly for what we've done when we were on the track."

Martin splits his No. 01 car with rookie Regan Smith, seen as the heir apparent in the vehicle when Martin eventually steps down for good.   The more Martin succeeds, the more other teams may be willing to do the same thing.

“We didn’t do a qualifying run today but rather focused towards ensuring we will have a competitive, and consistent, race set up. Overall I’m pretty happy with the day and our times,” said Ambrose.
