Dixon and Wheldon to Donate Prize Money to Iowa
Jun 20, 2008 | 9:03AM | report this

Target Chip Ganassi Racing announced today that drivers Scott Dixon (No. 9 Commit Honda Dallara) and Dan Wheldon (No. 10 Target Honda Dallara) will donate the prize money they earn from this Sunday’s Iowa Corn Indy 250 to the victims of Iowa’s devastating tornados and floods.

“What has happened here in Iowa is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to all the victims of the horrific tornados and floods,” said Dixon. “Donating to this cause is the least that we could do and I hope that the race will provide at least a short respite from their struggles.”

“When you see the devastation there you can’t help but feel for all those victims,” said Wheldon. “We as athletes are lucky enough to be in a position to do things like this and I encourage others to do the same."

Very nice gesture; perfectly appropriate and helps put sporting events into perspective.

Falcons:

That is right. You are in Iowa. Hope you faired better than some.

I would think all the drivers should chip in on that venture.

Falcs - Does this mean you have a couple new favorites? This is a great scoop - I hadn't heard it.

Seems that when Tony Stewart decided to donate his winnings to his hometown the week before Michigan, it has caught on.

It is nice to hear of other drivers in other divisions giving to help out these Americans in this time of need.

Iowa,

Dan is my favorite and Scott is my second favorite in the IRL.

Ts,

It's nice for Iowa. But it won't make up what the American Red Cross spends sponsoring Greg Biffle. Kind of ironic isn't it?

What a gesture. The men and women of all auto racing around the midwest this weekend did things like this. I know some drivers in milwaukee this weekend did the same. These drivers, one and all are proving they are truely champions. Thankyou to all of them.

A lot of people here needed the help and everyone appreciated the gestures. The women members of my Curve's club were all talking about it. They hadn't watched any of the races, but they had heard about it.
