With the Nationwide Series drivers not allowed on track for nearly 48 hours prior to the race, all the advantages were in place for the Sprint Cup Series drivers to dominate the event, and they did. The pace set by Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick was tough for most to follow. The order of the day was simply follow the leaders and hope for the best.
“This was a tough race for us, staying off the track for nearly 48 hours really hurt us, we were left to make an educated guess on the chassis setup,” Nationwide regular Bobby Hamilton Jr. said.
Can you explain why the NW drivers had to show up early and attempt to qualify on Thursday? I heard my hubby saying that their schedule was "messed up" last weekend. I go with the unfair advantage suggestion.
If you get right down to it lets stop all practice sessions for both series and only allow qualifying then impound the cars. We might get some exciting racing going on or have a wreck fest. Either way it would be better than the recent bore fest.
If the cup drivers run the NW cars they will always have that advantage. Nascar should give the NW cars a little more time. But either way the Cup drivers have the advantage..
I found the Thursday night scheduling for qualifying curious, as well. There weren't any other events happening like there is this weekend, like the Camping World Series race at Phoenix. It really defies logic - it's not like qualifying was going to be in prime time, either, as it was scheduled for 6:00 ET.
On a separate note, have you put a self-imposed ban on yourself for commenting on other blogs? Seems like you used to comment on EVERY one, now you don't seem too as much. (Although, I confess I don't read as many as I used to.)
I can't explain it. I think qualifying for Cup was Friday evening. I believe some people like to have Nationwide qualifying Thursday afternoon or evening to try to get some fans out to the track. I don't think it does much for the track owners though
I agree with Bobby that the Nationwide deal could have been a one day Saturday show. But they didn't want to take away any practice time for the Cup guys to do it that way. The Cup schedule rules the day.
