CitiFinancial announced it will be the primary sponsor on a variety of Roush Fenway Racing entries in all 35 Nationwide Series events in 2008. Citi will become a major associate sponsor on all Roush Fenway Racing teams, including the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entries of Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray, and David Ragan. In the Nationwide Series, Biffle, Kenseth, McMurray, Erik Darnell, Colin Braun and Carl Edwards will split seat time in the CitiFinancial Ford Fusion - which will rotate among the Roush Fenway #s 16, 17, and 60 Fords throughout the season.
That is good news for now but Citi Fin. had a bad second half profit wise ( lost money I think). Wonder how long they will honor their contract with Roush /Fenway.
The announcement was just made today. So apparently it is a go for now.
I am not real high on Citi right now. I am kind of glad I don't have a loan with them. I almost did.
One of their shadier operations (Primerica Financial Services) tried to get me to come and work for them. The subsidiary practices selling insurance through a pyramid scheme. Primerica bought out the old A. L. Williams company that operated that way in the 80's and the practices continue under the Primerica lable.
A few years back I also went through their pitch ( Primerica) not realizing what it was. Quickly I left half way through the presentation. The way I saw it, only the guy at the top makes any money.
As far as I can tell it is simply a one year deal. It is only as an Associate sponsor on the Sprint Cup cars and a partial sponsorship for a Nationwide car. It appears to me to simply replace the Ameriquest sponsorship Rousch has had the last two years.
I never went through the whole sales pitch. I had a friend that sold it in the eighties. Then I got an email during the last year and checked it out. I never agreed to visit them. I think some people make some money at it. But it did not appear to be a wise career choice for me.
Same for me on Primerica a couple years ago. There was something about them I just didn't like. I question the complete financial stability of the CitiCorp umbrella right now. I hope they can fulfill their commitment and stay afloat as a financial giant as well.
Good to hear the Nationwide series is getting some funding. Now all we need it keep the Cup drivers out of the Nationwide series races. I know, it'll never happen. Good post.
I don't even plan to go there this year. See my previous post on Nationwide. They don't know what type of a series they bought and don't care. NASCAR doesn't care. Why should I care?
By default the Craftsman Truck Series is the NASCAR Sprint Cup development series in my opinion.
