JOLIET, IL - Team Rensi Motorsports has many ties to the Chicagoland area which makes Saturday's NASCAR Busch Series USG Durock 300 almost a home game for driver Bobby Hamilton, Jr.  Team co-owner Ed Rensi has called Chicago home for many years and always looks forward to having the annual NASCAR race weekend at Chicagoland Speedway in his backyard.

It's a home game for the McDonald's Ford.

"It's always a special weekend for me, my family and the team," Rensi said.

Rensi and company are hoping for a repeat of 2003, when Hamilton, Jr. won at Chicagoland in his first tour of duty with the team.  The second generation driver is back with Rensi this year and looking to recapture the success both enjoyed the first time around.

Hamilton

"I am very hungry to prove my racing talents and record many more NASCAR Busch Series wins in the McDonald’s Ford," Hamilton, Jr. said when announcing his return. "I want to thank Team Rensi Motorsports for staying in touch and continuing to believe in my ability to drive a race car."

Hamilton, Jr. comes into the Chicago weekend seventh in the series points standings and has experienced an up and down season - his first without father Bobby Sr., who lost his battle to cancer earlier in the year.

Like JJ has been saying, I'd settle for a top five.  That would be like a win to me.

Does't he own his dad's Bobby Hamilton Racing? Why is't he associated with it? I think his dad drove one of the cars in the movie Days of Thunder.

Bobby owns 2/3rds of BHR. His step mom owns 1/3rd and runs the company. He leaves it alone with the stipulation that they may not touch his money. Consequently 2/3rds of the net worth must be maintained as liquidable assets.

Yes, Sr. qualified one of the Days of Thunder Cars and raced it for his first Winston Cup apperance.

Gilliland is in the 25, so we'll see who is ahead is head-to-head finished between the two after this race. They are tied 7-7 right now.

The head to head is interesting, but what point are you trying to make with it?

It seems the sport is in for another merry go round of drivers as they either change teams. Or now are walking away from the sport altogether. I'd read in today's USA Today that Kyle Busch was unhappy with the way that he'd been treated by HMS altogether. Can't really be sure what to make of it all. But if they've made the decision to let him go. Then one would presume that they had a good reason to do so. Tony George doesn't seem too unhappy that F1 won't be racing at Indianapolis for the forseeable future.
One would presume that Ecclestone would decide to see if Watkkins Glen would be available for the race.

Hadn't heard any late news on this. Doesn't sound good.

Ever since that debacle of last year I'd been expecting something like this to happen. George and Eccelstone are two like minded egotistical maniacs. I for one am unsure a to how it is both organizations have actually survived under their tenureship
as they've not been the most innovative or even creative individuals.
What's your impression surrounding the Beckham hype machine ? Both the press and in particular NBC and ESPN and their coverage will be border on maniacal devotion to the two, Beckham and his talentless hack of a wife. Take a look at the piece I've written under this guise and let me know what you think ? It's titled No Legs But Can Still Run ! So What's The Problem ? You might find it somewhat fascinating.

I just saw a real cute Beckham ad.

I understand the hype.

It's a big deal.

That's the inherent problem it's all hype now and when called for the team to succeed. What then happens ? Are they to blame Beckham or his teammates for not living up to what's expected of them.

So there may be some drama huh?

Just noticed Bill Lester qualified his truck second today and is currently leading the truck race on lap 1.

For the money that Beckham will be allagedly earing one would hope the hype and ensues. It'll be worth it to the team
and to the fans who'll be paying out untold millions snapping up merchandize , tickets and all sundries relating to his introduction into the MLS and L A Galaxy.
As for Bill Lester did he end up winning the race or even placing in the top five ?
More to the point did lead for more than a lap or so ?

I read their are some semi nudes of Davie and Posh about to come out. My question is this. Is it worth seeing David's butt just to see Posh's? Oh lord why me?

I checked the Sunday paper and apparently he finished just outside the top ten. Need one say anymore ?
As for the Beckham hype it ain't worth anything unless he can guarantee that the Galaxy will be winning anything. That's how the team will be judged and not because they've got a supposed superstar playing for them. It's not as if he's even the best at his postion let alone the best soccer player in the world. He's just a well marketed brand if nothing else. Granted he's had success on the field of play but a lot of the time he was playing second fiddle to someone who was far better than he was. Check out my latest piece under this guise titled No Legs But Can Still Run ! So What's The Problem ?

A top 15 isn't bad.

I don't follow soccer but I can't miss the Beckham story.

Word is Posh is leading the reunion.

As for the reunion I'd rather see the stage implode with all of The Sp*ce Girls on it than see them supposedly play live. They'll make Ashlee Simpson's meltdown on SNL a year back seem like a walk in the park. They're all talentless has beens ! The same people behind American Idol and are the same people behind the reunion as well as managaing Beckham's career. Doesn't anyone find or see anything ironic in all of this ? Astute business move more than anything else.

Do check the story out and you'll be surprised as to not only the subject matter. But above all what it's about and the IOC and what they ultimately fear at the end of the day.

Beckham is one of the best pure passer around. If Galaxy's front strikers are any good , they will get the passes from mid field from him to score, and from the corner kicks. The all England team manager drop him from the team thinking he was all used up and after many games without any other top player and YOUNGER not getting the passes up front to score. He's back !! Has he lost a step or two ? Yes ! But speed isan't everything.
