Iowa Corn Indy 250 Fact Sheet
Jun 21, 2007 | 2:20AM | report this

This is the inaugural event for the IndyCar Series at the newly-constructed Iowa Speedway.

What: Iowa Corn Indy 250, Round 8 of the 2007 IndyCar® Series
Where: Iowa Speedway, Newton, Iowa
When: Sunday, June 24, 2007
Television: ABC, 1 p.m. (EDT)

Who: #27 Canadian Club Dallara/Honda/Firestone driver Dario Franchitti

"After the weekend off, I am looking forward to heading to Iowa. I always enjoy going to new tracks. Iowa is a track similar to Pikes Peak and Richmond, which are both tracks that I enjoy, so it should be an exciting weekend. We are heading into a stretch of five consecutive races so it will be important to get off to a good start in order for us to fight for the championship."

Who wants to go with me damn it?  And oh yeah, by the way, I need a ride.   I'll tell you about the Jasper County Jail in Newton on the way.  You do not want the tour I got.

Warning!  Do not act up at the track!  The jail is right next to it.  They will put you in it.  And the judge is a hanging judge.

My prison brother! Have spent several hours in the hoosegow following a little mixup over payment of a $65 snowmobile registration. Kinda long story, but involves a power mad neo-fascist judge too.

I'm guessing your story has more of an edge to it than my pathetic story of judicial excess. At least you may have gotten your money's worth ...

Enjoy the race!

I only spent a few hours there but it was terrible.

If while you are stopped on the shoulder of the interstate, a police officer pulls off of the interstate and up behind you with his blue lights on. Do not assume he had his blue lights on for safety and that you are free to pull away.

Here's a little tip for you, Falcons; if you're on site for your job, get someone to sit in a car and hold up a hairdryer....it's amazing how much the traffic slows down when they see it ;)

Another trick is to have a mobile (cell....whatever) phone that can take pikkies. Then get someone to stop the car that's speeding through the worksite and take a photo of their license plate. They get all huffy when you tell them that but they can't argue about not seeing signs when we point them out....my Granddad told me to assume that everyone on the road is a #### and to adjust the way you drive to avoid them, lol

You got chucked inside over a snowmobile, Dave? Man, that's rough....remind me never to go visit Iowa, lol

Funny. I used to run radar for speed studies. Sometimes when I had the gun with me I would drive down the interstate with it off. Then when some speedy sports car with a radar detector flew by I would turn it on. Brake lights. Off. Speed. On. Brake lights. Off. On.

This may or may not be a true story. But it's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I have also done video surveys with cameras on the side of the road or in the median. They slow down for that too.

I think Newton, Jasper County and Iowa need to know that after their millions of development efforts at the track, a hanging Jasper County District Court Judge discourages tourism. My point exactly!

Falcons : SO there is still hanging judges in Iowa.. Remind me not to go there..

Yep I would like to go to that race but figure the gas cost, then figure the mileage at 5MPG considering it is over 1500 miles away round trip that comes to $800.00 for gas. Throw in the tickets at $100.00 each for choice seats, food expense, and walla. I will be broke. Nope cheaper to watch it on TV snug in my race car seat recliner.

My experience was in northern Indiana - the judge was out of Warsaw, IN. I had been cited for failing to apply my snowmobiles new registration sticker - a $65 fine which I paid. Two years later, the judge issued an arrest warrant - FAX'd it directly to the deputy sheriff's office in my county (which means that couldn't ignore it, as they normally do with such orders). Although I'd paid the fine, it had either never been recorded by the clerk, or embezzled by the clerk (an employee in the clerks office had been found guilty of embezzling traffic fines during this period of time). I had NO way of knowing the fine was unpaid - no notes, no phone calls. Just two deputies showing up at my door one Sunday night and trying to drag me out in handcuffs in front of my kids. We had my attorney on the phone, and managed to have them wait until I got to their car to apply the cuffs.

Never had the charge waived, and several attorneys said "just pay it again, you never know what this guy will do if he'll do something like this". So I did.

I contributed a hefty amount to his opponents election campaign the next time around - it was the prosecutor; the judge still won in a landslide, despite the fact he's known for this type of thing. Loves to be feared; thinks he's a tough guy.

What goes around usually comes around, eh?

Oh it usually does.

Just not necessarily in this lifetime.

Oh well, I can hope, and keep it in mind come election time.
