Ginn A Player In Junior Sweepstakes
May 27, 2007 | 5:49PM | report this

By Jenna Fryer, The Associated Press

Bobby Ginn has no problem with a beer sponsorship and is hotly pursuing NASCAR's most coveted free agent.  Ginn has room for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and has planned to expand to four teams since taking over majority ownership of the team known as MB2 Motorsports last season.  The Florida-based land developer said several weeks ago he would pursue Earnhardt, and Ginn Racing has emerged as a viable option through on-track performance by Mark Martin and Ginn's desire to field a winner.  Ginn said Saturday he's had "exploratory conversations" with Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, but has yet to speak to Earnhardt himself.  He said he never would have taken it this far if he didn't think his organization was a perfect fit.

"If I had no ability to do it, I wouldn't have embarrassed myself or wasted his time," Ginn said. "I believe we can support it and I believe he wants to win and I want to win. You put two people together that are damned determined to get there, that's a combination that has generally led to successes.  "I don't want to bring him here, if I had any opportunity to do it, and make him believe he can't win a championship."  Jay Frye, general manager at Ginn, is a St. Louis native who once worked for Anheuser-Busch, the parent company for Budweiser. Ginn believes Frye's past relationship with A-B, and Ginn's entertainment ties to the resorts he owns and golf tournaments he hosts makes it a perfect fit.  But he firmly believes Earnhardt is the most important part of the puzzle.

"You can build great cars and have great teams, but you've got to have that spark plug that is going to put you in the winning," Ginn said.  "To go after a winner, even if we had no chance to get him, it's like asking a pretty girl for a date.  You have nothing to lose, you might as well ask.  But I wouldn't have asked if I didn't think I could support him."

I think this guy has the big Bucks to lure Jr. into his fold. Considering the options, this may be the best one in the long run.
Look at Martin with Ginn. Semi retired and doing well in the points with better cars than he got at Roush Racing.

Happy Memorial Day-Yep, this article pretty much put the hammer on the nail to what u told me. Jr had a great car and the best CREW. Gotta go to a parade. Later, Shorty.

Ginn Racing is probably the best option for Jr. Think about it, the other power teams already have several super stars in their stable. Gibbs: Stewart and Hamlin. Hendricks: Gordon and Johnson. Childress: Harvick and Burton (well semi-superstars here).

Ginn Racing would allow Jr. to be their marquee driver. He would be their superstar. But the only thing that might hold Jr. back from Ginn Racing is that other than Mark Martin, they don't really have any consistent top 10 runners.

Hey there Falcon-Back from the parade. Good stuff-Real good. Had a question-Gun brought up a thought about RCR and Jr having already talked. Do u think they may have a "go see what's out there and you know where I'm at when you're done" deal and they r just bluffing? Even Richard said Jr knows where I'm at. Just thought I'd stir up the stew a little. Gotta go to a ball game now-SEMPER FI! Shorty.

I think driving for Richard would still be seen as riding dad's coat tails and I think Jr. is looking to be his own man.

I think driving for Richard puts more pressure on him to be dad that he does not want.

I think Richard doing engines with DEI was known by Junior and is a reason he left DEI and that when he did so he in fact left Richard as well. It will take a few years for the new engine program to gel. Jr. wants to win now. Going to Richard would be going back to a new engine program.

Also, Jr. does not want to go back to Teresa. Going to Richard is going back to Teresa for engines.

That's four strikes against Richard.

I read an article that confirmed he knew about the engine program partnership, but he stated that he thought they should have done it a long time ago. So do you think he was just trying to keep the peace, even with that statement? I have a new wrinkle to iron out and it came from my wife. Is Richard and Teresa more than a business relationship? Here we go.

Ginn Racing is a logical fit for Jr. He would be their marquee name. They won't hesitate to put Jr. in the 01 U.S. Army/Budweiser car. They would create a fourth team for Regan Smith. He would be his own man and build his own legacy there and build up his Busch Series program under the Ginn umbrella. He would have MUCH better engines than he does now at DEI, since Ginn Racing leases its engines from Hendrick Motorsports.

x,

I will stick to the thinking that he wants to win right away and that he knows the engine program will take awhile. The fact they didn't do it sooner may be a part of his frustration with DEI and a reason he left. If so, again, why would he go back to it.

I have insinuated that Richard and Teresa are getting in bed together. But I meant it metaphorically. I have no information at all on their private lives.

jon,

I can't see the U.S. Army and Budweiser on the same car. I see Jr. with Bud and the 01 team but another number. I am sure there is another number that means something to the Earnhardts other than three and eight that Jr. can make his own.

I was wanting to encourage you to blog. Believe it or not, I have known other bull riders. I did live in Shreveport LA for eight years and South Louisianans call Shreveport East Texas anyway.

Tell me how you got started. How did your first ride go? Those would probably be good stories.
