Potentially Interesting Qualifying Observations And Sandbag Detail
Apr 13, 2007 | 8:47PM | report this

With today's interesting weather in Texas today perhaps a sandbag detail is needed to control local flooding.  There was no qualifying based on time today due to the rain, sleet, hail, snow and gloom of night.  Alas, no Paul Revere midnight rides will occur either.

Heavy rains swept through Texas which forced qualifying to be cancelled.

Therefore, the starting lineup has been determined based on owners points.  I actually enjoy seeing this from time to time.  It puts all of the points leaders up front and we can see how they all do in cleaner air.  It's more like, well say an F1 start for example as all the best cars rush off into the first turn.

But rain on qualifying always hits hard on those trying to make the race on time.  They don't even get a chance to try.

Thus a #### week for Michael Waltrip just gets shittier.  However, I can't help but think Michael has brought this upon himself by burning his candle at both ends and generally taking on too much ####  I am not asking Michael to help this week.  Instead, I am keeping him in a holding cell.  This thing is just getting started for him.  Too bad.  But it's going to be a long and sad deal.

Alright, Mr. Lepage and Mr. Allmendinger, you guys have worked with us before, you know we don't goof off.  I expect you to act like leaders today as we go out here and build a few sandbag walls just in case we should get more weather and the creeks rise.  I know you will take this seriously.  This is serious business.

O.K., Kenny Wallace.  Kenny?  Kenny?  What?  Kenny made the race?  L I'll B.

########? Didn't I tell you to go Busch racing boy?  Getouttaheah!

Scott Wimmer, Sorry you didn't get a chance to try to qualify your Richard Childress Holiday Inn car man.  Bad break.  Your dismissed.  Go get some barbecue.

John Andretti, well you keep showing up from time to time so your asking for it.  Get over here with Kevin and A.J.,.

And todays newest member of the your in deep do do and on the #### shoveling sandbagging or whatever else the hell we need brigade, please welcome Jeremy Mayfield.

Damn, seems like everyones on your list this weekend.. Just kidding. Well being the old doubter I am, lets figure Mikey had a few under the belt when someone threw that tree in the road.Hate when that happens. Leaders up front, like it should be, just like restarts should be, to revisit an old gripe.Think Tony may have the ride to beat this weekend, he's due and runs good on long greens.Wish we could have seen the COT here at Texas to see how it would run in some good speeds and packs of cars, with it's limited downforce..Hope we have a good race and all come home safe..

The appearence of alcohol certainly lingers around Mikey. But the one thing that rings true is this. He said he got to a point where he thought "good, I am almost home," then that is all he remembers.

I had the same thing happen to me the one time I fell asleep at the wheel. I got to a point where I was within bicycle distance of home (the creek where I fished) [two miles or so from home] and thought good, I am almost home, then I went to sleep just for a few seconds before I was woken up by my car going off of an embankment, through a barbwire fence, (still see the sparks shooting up coming across my hood as I went under/through it from that) up an embankment where I tried to steer the car back out into the road before hitting a telephone pole in the rear left and watching it fall across the car with the wires winding up lying on the car.

So the I was almost home part really rings as an element of truth to me. I'll give him the benefit of a doubt. Of course, I know, even though nobody else did, that I had had one drink of Jack Daniels that night too, so who knows?
