ChampCars sister series, the Indy Racing League (IRL) has Danica Patrick and Sarah Fisher. ChampCar has Katherine Legge. Her pink and purple web site Is all woman. Her skills on the course are all driver. Legge finished sixth in ChampCars Las Vegas Grand Prix on Sunday.
"Woman Driver" is the first in-depth look at Katherine Legge, in her own words along with commentary from those who have witnessed the transformation from her humble beginnings to her meteroic rise in the male-dominated world of motorsports.
Some say she doesn’t belong on the racetrack. Year after year, she has to prove that she has the grit, the stamina, the physical strength, and the wherewithal to not only race, but to meet all the demands of a career as a race car driver. Who is this young superstar, who came seemingly out of nowhere to capture the hearts and minds of open wheel racing fans? “Woman Driver” is the poignant and inspiring true story of Katherine Legge and her remarkable journey through the highly competitive world of racing.
The story recounts Katherine’s early years, as she sacrificed every available moment of her childhood by racing go-karts. By sheer force of determination, and with the weight of history and gender at her heels, she advanced through the amateur ranks to the professional level. And then the real challenges began.
Yeah, it shows doesn't it. Let's see she finished seventh so she beat over ten guys dude. You are a prime example of chauvinism that she and all women drivers face.
It is true that a woman driver may be more marketable and they may get their chance sooner than a comparable male. But when they get there and they prove they can do it then they belong.
Yep. These gals paid their dues before the big time just like the male drivers.I don't think you can screw your way into a CART, INDY, or CHAMP car just because you are a lady. Too much investment to just put any body in one ..
Okay, so I'm going to come off as a chauvinist to some. Whatever.
I've seen women driving on highways, many of them talking on their cellphones, putting on their lipstick, driving their 3 kids to soccer practice, etc. Generally, these women are driving poorly. I'm not saying all women are bad drivers. I'm saying most are. This is why I regularly drive my mother around. The last thing she needs is a car wreck. Not that she's the worst driver I've ever seen. Not even close. When your bumper's been torn off by a woman driving a GMC Yukon because she was too busy putting on eyeliner to keep herself in her lane...
Anyway, I guess the point is, I'd rather be behind the wheel (as a courtesy, not a complaint), to ensure nothing happens. My feelings on women driving won't be changed, because most women drivers are pretty terrible. I blame the DMV entirely, for passing out licenses to everyone. Just last November, my buddy of 21 years got his license after driving for all of two hours prior to the test. Yay.
However, we've got some exceptions to the rule. Women like Danica, Sarah, and Katherine are exceptions. Darn good drivers. Legendary, even. Not because they're really awesome drivers, but because they're probably the best of all women drivers on the planet.
Historically women are better drivers than men. They take fewer chances behind the wheel. However, last I heard they were catching up. Of course, the cell phone may have changed that. They may be past the tipping point now.
Oh God, I here the nappy headed #### po's coming now.
