It's Ferrari vs McLaren up front. The animals came in two by two at the front of the grid for the Malaysian Grand Prix on Saturday, as the final session of qualifying developed into a last-lap shoot-out between McLaren and Ferrari. Kimi Raikkonen was the first to cross the start/finish line, temporarily snatching the coveted pole position with 1m 35.479s for Ferrari. But McLaren’s Fernando Alonso grabbed that away immediately, following him across the line mere feet behind and stopping the clocks in 1m 35.310s. Lewis Hamilton was next across in 1m 36.045s to secure fourth, but then Felipe Massa put things beyond reach with 1m 35.043s to restore Ferrari’s supremacy. The closeness of the times, however, and the fact that they were all set on Bridgestone’s softer compound, bodes well for a great race on Sunday.
Clearly there were some unhappy people out there - notably the Renault and Honda drivers but the potential battle between Ferrari and McLaren in what is always a very tough encounter should make for a memorable 2007 Malaysian Grand Prix.
14Falcons .......... What's up and how are you doin' ? I'm glad to see that someone besides myself shares somewhat of a passion for F1. It'll be one helluva' race in Sepang on Sunday. I expect it to be a duel between Alonso and Raikkonen, as these two drivers are now the pre-eminent drivers on the F1 circuit. The championship will no doubt be between the two when it's all sais and done. Their competitive spirit is well known and the fact that they've got mutual admiration and respect for one another makes it all the more appealing.
Lewis Hamilton will prove to be a very good driver on the circuit and prove that he's no flash in the pan.
Great move at the start, eh? Nice job by Team McLaren of giving Alonso a huge lead too.
The track just seems to "pass unfriendly", although not sure it would have made that much of a difference - as Alonso seemed to be faster than the Ferrari's when he needed to be (and faster than Hamilton too, when Hamilton wasn't "overly concerned" with the Ferraris).
I thought it was an interesting race. It seemed the McLaren team had it just figured out enough to win and that the Ferarri team changed their body just enough to not win. It looks to be an interesting year with Williams Toyota and Renault also being competitive. Plus my man Rubens drove a piece of #### from 22nd to 11th and he'll be alright if Honda can get their #### together.
14Falcons .... I wasn't able to catch the race as I was out visiting friends who are due to leave for a two week trip to Italy of all places. I'll have to catch a rerun of it on one of the cable outlets or have to read about it on the web. More likely than not it'll be through the bbc's comprehensive sports website. This F1 season should be a pretty interesting one for all participants. And we'll see also how good Ferdinand Alonso really is without having to race against Schumacher.I suspect his biggest challenge this season will come Kimi Raikkonen.
14Falcons .........I'd let be known in a piece written under my tophatal guise that Hamilton would be no fluke upon his entry into F1. As he's one of the undeniable up and coming new young talents within the F1 circuit. There's no denying that for one moment. He's that good and something else !
Like Schumacher before him he's able to impose his will upon the other drivers. Just because of his sheer willpower and excellent abilities behind the wheel of a vehicle. When you possess that sort of skill it's very hard to beat a driver that talented. That's the reason he's already a multiple World Champion. He'll probably go on to win a further three or four more over the course of his career.
