This is the first time since Darlington in 2003 that the Busch field has been short during a Nextel Cup companion race weekend. Why is this? It's the Toyota's stupid.
Not that it's Toyota's fault. They just forced the issue. For years now there have been Nextel Cup Field fillers that didn't belong but couldn't wean themselves from their addiction to Cup racing. Some of these were good single car teams back in the day. But that was back in the day. This is not your father's NASCAR.
Some of these teams might have benefited by merging with ther teams. But either they could not read the writing on the wall, or they refused to believe the writing on the wall or they were too darn stubborn to change direction based on the writing on the wall, or they can't play well with others or they were just a little dim when it comes to business acumen. Last fall they all sat around waiting for Toyota to come to them. Dumb ####. Toyota didn't want losers. Toyota picked a few potential winners that got it then went about setting up their own teams.
Now some of the old school is whining crying, "Why didn't Toyota call me?" It's called survival of the fittest, swimming with the sharks It ain't a duck pond full of good ole boys anymore men. These guys need to admit they are whipped. They have taken a thumpin'.
Now wake up and smell the beer. The Busch Series is calling your name. Don't get mad! Get even! Take the Cup series practice race away from the big boys.
Form some really tough Busch teams. Give us back our father's Busch Series. Let's see some old dawgs and young guns go hunting at this level.
Morgan McClure Motorsports and Morgan Shepherd, find some new friends. Take them with you. And go Busch Racing boys!
great article falcons and a good point with the down fall of so many reigonal sanctions due to the high costs of operating and what i call the bubba mentality the soon not to be busch series is going to be essential for all the teams to refine new talent and some line needs to be drawn for the cup drivers competing for example years ago one of the winston west stars we will call him RC i dont think he even qualified for any events .idont think it was lack of ability but a lack of financial fortitude to rise to the next level how many of the new drivers parents gambled thier financial futures so thier talented offspring could make it to the big show with fewer forums for new talent to showcase thier skills we need to have the busch league then the cup series much like baseball with its farm teams
Sadly, with the rising costs of the Busch Series, I think many of the former Cup field-fillers would still be underfunded in the Busch Series. It would be awfully interesting, however, to see what guys like Carl Long and Andy Belmont could do in a properly-funded Busch car.
the thing I have noticed about Japanese Racing since the days when Honda first entered Lite Racing is that they don't come to just be racing. They're in it to gain market share. If you sit around and whine and expect them to bow and be grateful to be let in you're gonna get your butt Kicked. They come with serious buck and they're serious about it. Best get ready to do your thing and nt be whining and moaning about them because they have no interest in anything other than their JOB.

Thanks alot guys. All of your comments are very insightful as well. This is a very nice discussion.
I wish Frank Kimmel (ARCA) would get in here and run with the Busch guys as well. It's interesting to me how ARCA works and it is a shame that ASA has really fallen off. But USAR Pro Cup is gaining with Hooters sponsorship. Busch needs to step it up if it wants to remain where it is and not lose its semi-elite status.
Busch would have a lot better competition and go back to being a stepping stone to Nextel Cup if the only allowed the Cup regulars so many races a year in Busch. Its ridiculous to see guys who have been in Cup 6,7 even 10 years or more running every single Busch race. There's less opportunity for some young talent or up and coming team to compete because we have to watch the Harvicks and and all those damn Hendricks Cars fill up the Bushc field every week jsut to pad their pockets. Veterans dont nee the Busch race to set up their Sunday Car. Remeber a few years ago, Dale Jr would run about 6 Busch races a year and win 4 or 5 of them. Its a training league and it should be set up that way. Give the opportunity to young guys from other series and some of the Vets that cant cut in the Cup series, but guys at the top of Cup series have no Business running every race in Busch each year just to use it to fund their Cup team.
Well the texas cuda guy had a good point but the Cup guys do bring interest into the series. I would rather see the cups guys stay in cup and the new blood get their atart in Busch but hey were are looking at money here.
14Falcon: Good points here on the ones un willing to change and many have went belly up allready with more to follow. I would imagine it takes as much money to field a Busch car as a Cup car now days if it is to be a front runner in a race.
I agree. My suggestion is have fewer companion events and let the trouble of running Busch races at different venues from Cup races on the same weekend solve the problem itself.
Hi. You guys are missing the point. The reason nascar doesn't stop the cup drivers from running in busch races is more fans will watch the the busch race with Stewart, harvick etc in the race. Nascar only cares about the money not the fans.
